Mixed convection heat transfer in a channel with volumetric heat source and different opening ratio at the exit has been analyzed numerically. Steady, laminar, two-dimensional model based on the finite-volume method is used for solving the mass, momentum and energy transfer governing equations. The flow is injected to the duct with a uniform velocity distribution. The problem is studied in three aspect ratios (A = 1, 3 and 5) and three opening cases as single opening near the ceiling, single opening near the bottom and double openings. The study is also tested for different Richardson numbers between 0.01 and 10. Streamlines, isotherms, Nusselt numbers and temperature profiles were obtained for indicated cases. It is found that both the Richardson number and the locations of exit openings have strong effects on flow and temperature distribution in the presence of volumetric heat sources. The highest heat transfer was formed when the outlet port is located onto top of vertical wall.  相似文献

A numerical study of fluid flow and heat transfer, applying natural convection is carried out in a porous corrugated rhombic enclosure. A uniform heating source is applied from the bottom boundary wall while the inclined side walls are maintained to a constant cold temperature and the top corrugated wall is retained at insulated condition inside the enclosure. The heat transfer and flow features are presented for a wide spectrum of Rayleigh numbers (Ra), 104 ≤ Ra ≤ 106, and Darcy numbers (Da), 10?3 ≤ Da ≤ 10?2. The number of undulations (n) for the top and bottom walls have been varied from 1 to 13 keeping the amplitude of undulation fixed. It is revealed that the characteristics of heat transfer are conceivably modulated by changing the parameter of the undulation number on the enclosure walls, specifically at the bottom and top. The influencing control of n in altering the heat transfer rate is felt maximum on the left wall and minimum for the right wall, and there is a strong interplay between Ra and Da together with n on dictating the heat transfer characteristics. The critical value, where heat transfer rate is observed as maximum is at n = 11 and thereafter the values decrease.  相似文献

The present work is aimed to study mixed convection heat transfer characteristics within a ventilated square cavity having a heated hollow cylinder. The heated hollow cylinder is placed at the center of the cavity. In addition, the wall of the cavity is assumed to be adiabatic. Flows are imposed through the inlet at the bottom of the left wall and exited at the top of the right wall of the cavity. The present study simulates a practical system such as air-cooled electronic equipment with a heat component or an oven with heater. Emphasis is sited on the influences of the cylinder diameter and the thermal conductivity of the cylinder in the cavity. The consequent mathematical model is governed by the coupled equations of mass, momentum and energy and solved by employing Galerkin weighted residual method of finite element formulation. A wide range of pertinent parameters such as Reynolds number, Richardson number, cylinder diameter and the solid-fluid thermal conductivity ratio are considered in the present study. Various results such as the streamlines, isotherms, heat transfer rates in terms of the average Nusselt number and average fluid temperature in the cavity are presented for different aforesaid parameters. It is observed that the cylinder diameter has significant effect on both the flow and thermal fields but the solid-fluid thermal conductivity ratio has significant effect only on the thermal field.  相似文献

In this experimental investigation, a packed bed column suitable for 5‐ton hybrid cooling system has been designed to study the absorption of water vapour from moist air by contact with aqueous solutions of calcium chloride. The packing material used in the study was two elements of the BXPEP structured packing and the height of the each element was 17 cm. This packed bed dehumidifier handles desiccant flow rates from 10 to 32 l/min. This paper presents results from a detailed experimental investigation of the heat and mass transfer between a liquid desiccant (calcium chloride) and air in a gauze‐type structured packing dehumidifier. The effects of different independent variables such as air inlet absolute humidity, desiccant inlet temperature, flow rate and its concentration on the performance of the dehumidifier have been investigated. Two-dimensional buoyancy-induced flow and heat transfer inside a square enclosure partially occupied by copper metallic foam subjected to a symmetric side cooling and constant heat flux bottom heating was tested numerically. Finite Element Method was employed to solve the governing partial differential equations of the flow field and the Local Thermal Equilibrium model was used for the energy equation. The system boundaries were defined as lower heated wall by constant heat flux, cooled lateral walls, and insulated top wall. The three parameters elected to conduct the study are heater length (7 ≤ ζ ≤ 20 cm), constant heat flux (150 ≤ q″ ≤ 600 W m2), and porous material thickness (5 ≤ H ≤ 20 cm). The porous material used was the copper metal foam of porosity = 0.9 and pore density PPI = 10, and saturated with a fluid of Prandtl number = 0.7. On the basis of the results obtained, it was concluded that at the porous layer thickness = 5 cm, the rate of heat transferred was (74.6%) higher than when the layer height was 20 cm (the cavity is fully filled) and at the same thickness it was found that the heat rate is (51.4%) higher than when using the half filling (H = 10 cm). Further, the local and mean Nusselt number is maximum when using the largest heater size and smallest porous layer thickness. Finally, better circulation and convective modes were observed at high values of heat flux.  相似文献

The mixed convection flow and heat transfer characteristics inside a square ventilated cavity with a heat-generating solid circular body located at the center have been investigated numerically. The inlet opening is at the bottom of the left wall, while the outlet one is at the top of the right wall, and all the walls of the cavity are considered to be adiabatic. A Galerkin weighted residual finite element method is used to solve the governing equations of mass, momentum, and energy. The behavior of the fluid in the ranges of dimensionless cylinder diameter from 0.1 to 0.6 of the heat generating body, thermal conductivity ratio range from 0.2 to 50 between solid and fluid, and heat generating parameter range from 1 to 5 is described in detail. The medium considered is air with a Prandtl number of 0.71. It is found that the flow and temperature field is strongly dependent on the already-mentioned parameters for the ranges considered. The variation of the mean Nusselt number, the dimensionless average drag force, and the average temperature of the fluid versus Richardson number are presented for these parameters.  相似文献

This paper presents an experimental investigation of the thermal performance of a solar air heater having its flow channel packed with Raschig rings. The packing improves the heat transfer from the plate to the air flow underneath. The dimensions of the heater are 0.9 m wide and 1.9 m long. The aluminium‐based absorber plate was coated with ordinary black paint. The characteristic diameter of the Raschig rings, made of black polyvinyl chloride (PVC) tube, is 50 mm and the depth of the packed‐bed in flow channel is 60 mm. Energy and exergy analyses were applied for evaluating the efficiency of the packed‐bed solar air heater. The rate of heat recovered from the packed‐bed solar air heater varied between 9.3 and 151.5 W m?2, while the rate of thermal exergy recovered from the packed‐bed solar air heater varied between 0.04 and 8.77 W m?2 during the charging period. The net energy efficiency varied from 2.05 to 33.78%, whereas the net exergy efficiency ranged from 0.01 to 2.16%. It was found that the average daily net energy and exergy efficiencies were 17.51 and 0.91%, respectively. The energy and exergy efficiencies of the packed‐bed solar air heater increased as the outlet temperature of heat transfer fluid increased.

With the steam obtained from the waste heat of high temperature semi-coke, the hydrogen production through gasification method is considered more commercially. The heat transfer of semi-coke bed and steam was investigated using an unsteady convection heat transfer three-dimensional model of semi-coke. The effects of particle size, steam flow and particle bed thickness on heat transfer characteristics were considered. The particle temperature calculated by three-dimensional model was in good agreement with the corresponding particle temperature of experiment. The heat transfer characteristics of single particle, the particle temperature, the amount of heat recovery and the heat flux were investigated. The results show that, in the first 10 min of the heat transfer of semi-coke bed and steam, the bottom particle temperature decreases rapidly, but the top particle temperature is almost unchanged. The heat transfer rate evolution of the single particle in different positions is revealed. The heat transfer rate evolution of the bottom particle is different from that of the middle particle and top particle, and the heat transfer rate evolution of middle particle is similar to that of the top particle. The particle size, the steam flow and the particle bed thickness have great influence on the heat transfer mechanism of semi-coke and steam, and the 7.5 kg/h is considered to be the best steam flow for heat recovery. The intrinsic heat transfer mechanism between semi-coke bed and steam was revealed.  相似文献

An experimental investigation has been made to study the effect of pressure and other relevant operating parameters on bed hydrodynamics and bed-to-wall heat transfer in a pressurized circulating fluidized bed (PCFB) riser column of 37.5 mm internal diameter and 1940 mm height. The experiments have been conducted with and without bed material for the consideration of frictional pressure drop due to gas density at elevated pressures. The pressure drop measured without sand particles is assumed as the pressure drop due to gas density for the calculation of bed voidage and suspension density profiles. The specially designed heat transfer probe is used to measure the bed-to-wall heat transfer coefficient. The experimental results have been compared with the published literature and good agreement has been observed. The axial bed voidage is less in the bottom zone of the riser column and is increasing along the height of the bed. With the increase in system pressure, the bed voidage is found to be increasing in the bottom zone and decreasing in the top zone. The heat transfer coefficient increases with the increase in system pressure as well as with the gas superficial velocity. The heat transfer coefficient is also observed to be increasing with the increase in average suspension density.  相似文献
