Recent research has been focused on the utilization of low‐grade waste heat, and the industrial high‐temperature heat pump can be an alternative technology because of its simplicity and outstanding performance. However, the use of carbon dioxide in vapor compression heat pumps with high‐temperature heat source is still to be optimized because of low critical temperature. In the present study, a system for waste heat recovery from the steam condenser using CO2 vapor compression cycle is modeled from the energetic, exergetic, and economic perspectives, and optimized system performances are obtained by dual‐objective Jaya algorithm. Potential optimized operating strategies for transcritical cycle are discussed by the parametric study and Ts diagrams. The transcritical and supercritical cycles are further compared with each other considering different steam temperatures. The optimization strategies of transcritical cycle are based on the main purpose to improve the evaporation potential and achieve transcritical cycles with the critical point inside the closed region surrounded by the process curves, so lower superheating degree and minimum temperature difference of gas cooler, higher evaporating temperature, and more return water cooling should be employed in order to promote the cycle performances. In comparison with transcritical cycles performances, the supercritical operation shows superior performances, which are less sensitive to the variations of return water temperature.  相似文献

This paper analyzes a novel process for producing hydrogen and electricity from coal, based on chemical looping combustion (CLC) and gas turbine combined cycle, allowing for intrinsic capture of carbon dioxide. The core of the process consists of a three-reactors CLC system, where iron oxide particles are circulated to: (i) oxidize syngas in the fuel reactor (FR) providing a CO2 stream ready for sequestration after cooling and steam vapor condensation, (ii) reduce steam in the steam reactor (SR) to produce hydrogen, (iii) consume oxygen in the air reactor (AR) from air releasing heat to sustain the thermal balance of the CLC system and to generate electricity. A compacted fluidized bed, composed of two fuel reactors, is proposed here for full conversion of fuel gases in FR. The gasification CLC combined cycle plant for hydrogen and electricity cogeneration with Fe2O3/FeAl2O4 oxygen carriers was simulated using ASPEN® PLUS software. The plant consists of a supplementary firing reactor operating up to 1350 °C and three-reactors SR at 815 °C, FR at 900 °C and AR at 1000 °C. The results show that the electricity and hydrogen efficiencies are 14.46% and 36.93%, respectively, including hydrogen compression to 60 bar, CO2 compression to 121 bar, The CO2 capture efficiency is 89.62% with a CO2 emission of 238.9 g/kWh. The system has an electricity efficiency of 10.13% and a hydrogen efficiency of 41.51% without CO2 emission when supplementary firing is not used. The plant performance is attractive because of high energy conversion efficiency and low CO2 emission. Key parameters that affect the system performance are also discussed, including the conversion of steam to hydrogen in SR, supplementary firing temperature of the oxygen depleted air from AR, AR operation temperature, the flow of oxygen carriers, and the addition of inert support material to the oxygen carrier.  相似文献

An analysis of the performance of a gas turbine–steam turbine combined cycle with supplementary firing has been carried out. Natural gas is fired in the main combustor of the cycle, whereas biomass fuel is considered as the supplementary fuel. Although, supplementary firing is found to reduce the overall cycle efficiency, the low cost of biomass and the CO2‐neutral attribute of its combustion reduce the specific fuel cost and specific CO2 emission. The effects of pressure and temperature ratios of the topping cycle and main steam conditions of the bottoming cycle on the performance parameters of the combined cycle have been studied at different degrees of supplementary firing. The topping cycle temperature ratio is found to be the most critical parameter and its low value gives substantial advantages in lowering the fuel cost and CO2 emission. Marginal advantages are also achieved at higher pressure ratio and better bottoming cycle main steam conditions. Copyright © 2008 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

A novel solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC)/gas turbine (GT) hybrid cycle system with CO2 capture is proposed based on a typical topping cycle SOFC/GT hybrid system. The H2 gas is separated from the outlet mixture gas of SOFC1 anode by employing the advanced ceramic proton membrane technology, and then, it is injected into SOFC2 to continue a new electrochemical reaction. The outlet gas of SOFC1 cathode and the exhaust gas from SOFC2 burn in the afterburner 1. The combustion gas production of the afterburner1 expands in the turbine 1. The outlet gas of SOFC1 anode employs the oxy‐fuel combustion mode in the afterburner 2 after H2 gas is separated. Then, the combustion gas production expands in the turbine 2. To ensure that the flue gas temperature does not exceed the maximum allowed turbine inlet temperature, steam is injected into the afterburner 2. The outlet gas of the afterburner 2 contains all the CO2 gas of the system. When the steam is removed by condensation, the CO2 gas can be captured. The steam generated by the waste heat boiler is used to drive a refrigerator and make CO2 gas liquefied at a lower temperature. The performance of the novel quasi‐zero CO2 emission SOFC/GT hybrid cycle system is analyzed with a case study. The effects of key parameters, such as CO2 liquefaction temperature, hydrogen separation rate, and the unit oxygen production energy consumption on the new system performance, are investigated. Compared with the other quasi‐zero CO2 emission power systems, the new system has the highest efficiency of around 64.13%. Supplementary firing is adopted in combined‐cycle power plants to reheat low‐temperature gas turbine exhaust before entering into the heat recovery steam generator. In an effort to identify suitable supplementary firing options in an integrated gasification combined‐cycle (IGCC) power plant configuration, so as to use coal effectively, the performance is compared for three different supplementary firing options. The comparison identifies the better of the supplementary firing options based on higher efficiency and work output per unit mass of coal and lower CO2 emissions. The three supplementary firing options with the corresponding fuel used for the supplementary firing are: (i) partial gasification with char, (ii) full gasification with coal and (iii) full gasification with syngas. The performance of the IGCC system with these three options is compared with an option of the IGCC system without supplementary firing. Each supplementary firing option also involves pre‐heating of the air entering the gas turbine combustion chamber in the gas cycle and reheating of the low‐pressure steam in the steam cycle. The effects on coal consumption and CO2 emissions are analysed by varying the operating conditions such as pressure ratio, gas turbine inlet temperature, air pre‐heat and supplementary firing temperature. The results indicate that more work output is produced per unit mass of coal when there is no supplementary firing. Among the supplementary firing options, the full gasification with syngas option produces the highest work output per unit mass of coal, and the partial gasification with char option emits the lowest amount of CO2 per unit mass of coal. Based on the analysis, the most advantageous option for low specific coal consumption and CO2 emissions is the supplementary firing case having full gasification with syngas as the fuel. An innovative zero emission hybrid cycle named HICES (hybrid and improved CES cycle) is presented in this paper. It can utilize fossil fuel and low quality thermal energy such as waste heat from industrial processes and solar thermal energy for highly efficient electric power generation. In the HICES cycle, natural gas is internally combusted with pure oxygen. External low quality thermal energy is used to produce saturated steam between 70 and 250 °C as part of the working fluid. The thermodynamic characteristics at design conditions of the HICES cycle are analyzed using the advanced process simulator Aspen Plus. The influences of some key parameters are investigated. The results demonstrate that the thermodynamic performances of the HICES cycle are quite promising. For example, when the external heat produced saturated steam is at 70 °C, the net fuel-to-electricity efficiency is 54.18% even when taking into account both the energy penalties to produce pure oxygen and to liquefy the captured CO2. The incremental low temperature heat to electric efficiency is as high as 14.08% at the same time. When the external heat produced saturated steam is at 250 °C, the net fuel-to-electricity efficiency reaches 62.66%. The incremental low temperature heat to electric efficiency achieves 48.92%.  相似文献

Optimization is an important method for improving the efficiency and power of the combined cycle. In this paper, the triple‐pressure steam‐reheat gas‐reheat gas‐recuperated combined cycle that uses steam for cooling the first gas turbine (the regular steam‐cooled cycle) was optimized relative to its operating parameters. The optimized cycle generates more power and consumes more fuel than the regular steam‐cooled cycle. An objective function of the net additional revenue (the saving of the optimization process) was defined in terms of the revenue of the additional generated power and the costs of replacing the heat recovery steam generator (HRSG) and the costs of the additional operation and maintenance, installation, and fuel. Constraints were set on many operating parameters such as air compression ratio, the minimum temperature difference for pinch points (δTppm), the dryness fraction at steam turbine outlet, and stack temperature. The net additional revenue and cycle efficiency were optimized at 11 different maximum values of turbine inlet temperature (TIT) using two different methods: the direct search and the variable metric. The optima were found at the boundaries of many constraints such as the maximum values of air compression ratio, turbine outlet temperature (TOT), and the minimum value of stack temperature. The performance of the optimized cycles was compared with that for the regular steam‐cooled cycle. The results indicate that the optimized cycles are 1.7–1.8 percentage points higher in efficiency and 4.4–7.1% higher in total specific work than the regular steam‐cooled cycle when all cycles are compared at the same values of TIT and δTppm. Optimizing the net additional revenue could result in an annual saving of 21 million U.S. dollars for a 439 MW power plant. Increasing the maximum TOT to 1000°C and replacing the stainless steel recuperator heat exchanger of the optimized cycle with a super‐alloys‐recuperated heat exchanger could result in an additional efficiency increase of 1.1 percentage point and a specific work increase of 4.8–7.1%. The optimized cycles were about 3.3 percentage points higher in efficiency than the most efficient commercially available H‐system combined cycle when compared at the same value of TIT. An experimental system investigating condensation heat transfer of wet flue gas was set up, and the heat transfer performance of vapor‐gas mixture with vapor condensation was discussed. The experimental results of laminar flow in a plastic longitudinal spiral plate heat exchanger were obtained and are in good agreement with the modified classical film model. It is shown that the plastic air preheater can avoid acid corrosion in the low‐temperature field for the boiler using fuel containing sulfur and recover latent heat of the water vapor of the wet flue gas. In this article, a new stand‐alone Cu‐Cl cycle system (SACuCl) for trigeneration of electricity, hydrogen, and oxygen using a combination of a specific combined heat and power (CHP) unit and a 2‐step Cu‐Cl cycle using a CuCl/HCl electrolyzer is presented. Based on the self‐heat recuperation technology for the CHP unit and the heat integration of the Cu‐Cl cycle unit, the power efficiency of the SACuCl for 5 prescribed scenarios (case studies) is predicted to achieve about 48% at least. The SACuCl uses the technologies of the dry reforming of methane and the oxy‐fuel combustion to achieve a relatively high CO2 concentration in the flue gas, and CO2 emissions for power generation could be almost restricted by 0.418 kg/kWh. From the aspect of the electricity required for hydrogen production, it is verified that the 2‐step Cu‐Cl cycle system is superior to the conventional water electrolyzer because the CHP process supplies the heat/electricity for Cu‐Cl thermochemical reactions and a thermoelectric generator is connected to the exhaust gas for recovering the power consumption from the compressor and the CuCl/HCl electrolyzer. Finally, the heat exchanger network and the pinch technology are employed to determine the optimum heat recovery of the Cu‐Cl cycle. In case 5 analyzed for the SACuCl, the electricity required for the heat‐integrated 2‐step Cu‐Cl cycle is predicted to dramatically decrease from 4.39 to 0.452 kWh/m3 H2 and the cycle energy efficiency could be obviously increased from 23.77 to 31.97%.  相似文献

Two novel system configurations were proposed for oxy-fuel natural gas turbine systems with integrated steam reforming and CO2 capture and separation. The steam reforming heat is obtained from the available turbine exhaust heat, and the produced syngas is used as fuel with oxygen as the oxidizer. Internal combustion is used, which allows a very high heat input temperature. Moreover, the turbine working fluid can expand down to a vacuum, producing an overall high-pressure ratio. Particular attention was focused on the integration of the turbine exhaust heat recovery with both reforming and steam generation processes, in ways that reduce the heat transfer-related exergy destruction. The systems were thermodynamically simulated, predicting a net energy efficiency of 50–52% (with consideration of the energy needed for oxygen separation), which is higher than the Graz cycle energy efficiency by more than 2 percentage points. The improvement is attributed primarily to a decrease of the exergy change in the combustion and steam generation processes that these novel systems offer. The systems can attain a nearly 100% CO2 capture.  相似文献

Supercritical CO2 power cycle shows a high potential to recover low-grade waste heat due to its better temperature glide matching between heat source and working fluid in the heat recovery vapor generator (HRVG). Parametric analysis and exergy analysis are conducted to examine the effects of thermodynamic parameters on the cycle performance and exergy destruction in each component. The thermodynamic parameters of the supercritical CO2 power cycle is optimized with exergy efficiency as an objective function by means of genetic algorithm (GA) under the given waste heat condition. An artificial neural network (ANN) with the multi-layer feed-forward network type and back-propagation training is used to achieve parametric optimization design rapidly. It is shown that the key thermodynamic parameters, such as turbine inlet pressure, turbine inlet temperature and environment temperature have significant effects on the performance of the supercritical CO2 power cycle and exergy destruction in each component. It is also shown that the optimum thermodynamic parameters of supercritical CO2 power cycle can be predicted with good accuracy using artificial neural network under variable waste heat conditions.  相似文献

A major factor in global warming is CO2 emission from thermal power plants, which burn fossil fuels. One technology proposed to prevent global warming is CO2 recovery from combustion flue gas and the sequestration of CO2 underground or near the ocean bed. Solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) can produce highly concentrated CO2, because the reformed fuel gas reacts with oxygen electrochemically without being mixed with air in the SOFC. We therefore propose to operate multi-staged SOFCs with high utilization of reformed fuel to obtain highly concentrated CO2. In this study, we estimated the performance of multi-staged SOFCs considering H2 diffusion and the combined cycle efficiency of a multi-staged SOFC/gas turbine/CO2 recovery power plant. The power generation efficiency of our CO2 recovery combined cycle is 68.5%, whereas the efficiency of a conventional SOFC/GT cycle with the CO2 recovery amine process is 57.8%.  相似文献

Large quantities of low grade waste heat are discharged into the environment, mostly via water evaporation, during industrial processes. Putting this industrial waste heat to productive use can reduce fossil fuel usage as well as CO2 emissions and water dissipation. The purpose of this paper is to propose a holistic approach to the integrated and efficient utilization of low-grade industrial waste heat. Recovering industrial waste heat for use in district heating (DH) can increase the efficiency of the industrial sector and the DH system, in a cost-efficient way defined by the index of investment vs. carbon reduction (ICR). Furthermore, low temperature DH network greatly benefits the recovery rate of industrial waste heat. Based on data analysis and in-situ investigations, this paper discusses the potential for the implementation of such an approach in northern China, where conventional heat sources for DH are insufficient. The universal design approach to industrial-waste-heat based DH is proposed. Through a demonstration project, this approach is introduced in detail. This study finds three advantages to this approach: (1) improvement of the thermal energy efficiency of industrial factories; (2) more cost-efficient than the traditional heating mode; and (3) CO2 and pollutant emission reduction as well as water conservation.  相似文献

The attractive features of a combined cycle (CC) power plant are fuel flexibility, operational flexibility, higher efficiency and low emissions. The performance of five gas turbine‐steam turbine (GT‐ST) combined cycle power plants (four natural gas based plants and one biomass based plant) have been studied and the degree of augmentation has been compared. They are (i) combined cycle with natural gas (CC‐NG), (ii) combined cycle with water injection (CC‐WI), (iii) combined cycle with steam injection (CC‐SI), (iv) combined cycle with supplementary firing (CC‐SF) and (v) combined cycle with biomass gasification (CC‐BM). The plant performance and CO2 emissions are compared with a change in compressor pressure ratio and gas turbine inlet temperature (GTIT). The optimum pressure ratio for compressor is selected from maximum efficiency condition. The specific power, thermal efficiency and CO2 emissions of augmented power plants are compared with the CC‐NG power plant at the individual optimized pressure ratios in place of a common pressure ratio. The results show that the optimum pressure ratio is increased with water injection, steam injection, supplementary firing and biomass gasification. The specific power is increased in all the plants with a loss in thermal efficiency and rise in CO2 emissions compared to CC‐NG plant. Copyright © 2013 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

This paper examines the exhaust waste heat recovery potential of a high-efficiency, low-emissions dual fuel low temperature combustion engine using an Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC). Potential improvements in fuel conversion efficiency (FCE) and specific emissions (NOx and CO2) with hot exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) and ORC turbocompounding were quantified over a range of injection timings and engine loads. With hot EGR and ORC turbocompounding, FCE improved by an average of 7 percentage points for all injection timings and loads while NOx and CO2 emissions recorded an 18 percent (average) decrease. From pinch-point analysis of the ORC evaporator, ORC heat exchanger effectiveness (?), percent EGR, and exhaust manifold pressure were identified as important design parameters. Higher pinch point temperature differences (PPTD) uniformly yielded greater exergy destruction in the ORC evaporator, irrespective of engine operating conditions. Increasing percent EGR yielded higher FCEs and stable engine operation but also increased exergy destruction in the ORC evaporator. It was observed that hot EGR can prevent water condensation in the ORC evaporator, thereby reducing corrosion potential in the exhaust piping. Higher ? values yielded lower PPTD and higher exergy efficiencies while lower ? values decreased post-evaporator exhaust temperatures below water condensation temperatures and reduced exergy efficiencies.  相似文献

A scale of 2.4 MW molten carbonate fuel cell (MCFC) was taken to construct a high-efficiency and economic power generation system without CO2 emission for utilizing its exhaust gas. A conventional steam turbine power generation system (STPS) is evaluated and the net generated power (NGP) is estimated to be only 131 kW and the STPS is not economically feasible. A CO2-caputuring repowering system is proposed, where low temperature steam produced at heat recovery steam generator (HRSG) by using the MCFC exhaust gas is utilized as a main working fluid of a gas turbine, and the temperature of the steam is raised by combusting fuel in a combustor by using pure oxygen, not the air. It is estimated that NGP of the proposed system is 253 kW, and CO2 reduction amount is 583 t-CO2/y, compared to 302 t-CO2/y for the STPS and that the proposed system becomes economically feasible if a CO2 emission credit higher than 20 $/t-CO2 can be granted. It is also estimated, when its turbine inlet temperature is increased from 850 °C to 1000 °C, CO2-capturing is not cost-consuming but becomes to be profitable, owing to improved power generation characteristics.  相似文献

It is becoming more important to realize CO2‐capturing power generation systems (PGSs) for drastically decreasing an amount of CO2 emission into the atmosphere. However, net power generation efficiency (NPGE) of a CO2‐capturing system has been considered to be greatly deteriorated, since capturing CO2 requires extra energy. This paper proposes a new CO2‐capturing PGS that has a high‐efficient NPGE by utilizing waste heat from factories. As an example of a waste heat, exhaust gas with temperature 200°C from refuse incinerator plants is adopted. In the proposed system, the temperature of saturated steam produced by utilizing the waste heat is raised by combusting fuel with the use of pure oxygen in a combustor, and is used as the main working fluid of a gas turbine PGS. It is estimated that the proposed system has a fuel‐to‐electricity NPGE of 59.3%, when turbine inlet temperature (TIT) is assumed to be 1000°C. The economics of the proposed system is also evaluated and the CO2 reduction cost is estimated to be small; 4.16 U.S. $ t−1 CO2 compared with 32.1 U.S. $ t−1 CO2 for a conventional steam turbine PGS. It is shown that CO2‐capturing is not cost consuming but becomes to be profitable owing to improved power generation characteristics, when its TIT is increased from 1000 to 1200°C. This study proposes a novel methodology for controlling syngas production from high‐temperature CO2/steam co‐electrolysis. The co‐electrolysis of CO2/steam mixtures is one of the most promising methods to reduce CO2 emissions and mitigate climate change. CO2 and steam are reduced to produce synthetic gas (H2 and CO) through thermo‐electrochemical reactions occurring in a solid‐oxide‐cell fuel electrode. To make this technology viable, it is essential to improve electrochemical cell performance and obtain controllability of gas conversion and product gas selectivity. In this study, Fe infiltration to the Ni/YSZ fuel electrode and subsequent in situ alloying of Ni‐Fe is used to enhance the cell performance and syngas productivity. Impregnation of Fe‐oxide nanoparticles on the fuel electrode support of solid oxide cells and subsequent in situ alloying Ni‐Fe is obtained. Their homogeneous morphology and distribution are obtained by using an advanced infiltration technique. Results show that the Ni‐Fe/YSZ fuel electrode enhances CO selectivity and lowers an overvoltage imposed on the cell. This may result in syngas production with higher carbon contents and a higher co‐electrolysis system efficiency. In addition, its long‐term durability for 500‐hour operation is also evidenced with stable syngas production and negligible cell degradation.  相似文献

A new zero CO2 emission solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) hybrid power system integrated with the oxygen ion transport membrane using CO2 as sweep gas is proposed in this paper. The pure oxygen is picked up from the cathode outlet gas by the oxygen ion transport membrane with CO2 as sweep gas; the oxy‐fuel combustion mode in the afterburner of SOFC is employed. Because the combustion product gas only consists of CO2 and steam, CO2 is easily captured with lower energy consumption by the condensation of steam. With the aspen plus soft, this paper builds the simulation model of the overall SOFC hybrids system with CO2 capture. The exergy loss distributions of the overall system are analyzed, and the effects of the key operation parameters on the overall system performance are also investigated. The research results show that the new system still has a high efficiency after CO2 recovery. The efficiency of the new system is around 65.03%, only 1.25 percentage points lower than that of the traditional SOFC hybrid power system(66.28%)without CO2 capture. The research achievements from this paper will provide the valuable reference for further study on zero CO2 emission SOFC hybrid power system with higher efficiency. For clean utilization of coal, enhanced gasification by in situ CO2 capture has the advantage that hydrogen production efficiency is increased while no energy is required for CO2 separation. The unmixed fuel process uses a sorbent material as CO2 carrier and consists of three coupled reactors: a coal gasifier where CO2 is captured generating a H2-rich gas that can be utilized in fuel cells, a sorbent regenerator where CO2 is released by sorbent calcination and it is ready for capture and a reactor to oxidize the oxygen transfer material which produces a high temperature/pressure vitiated air. This technology has the potential to eliminate the need for the air separation unit using an oxygen transfer material. Reactors' temperatures range from 750 °C to 1550 °C and the process operates at pressure around 7.0 bar. This paper presents a global thermodynamic model of the fuel processing concept for hydrogen production and CO2 capture combined with fuel and residual heat usage. Hydrogen is directly fed to a solid oxide fuel cell and exhaust streams are used in a gas turbine expander and in a heat recovery steam generator. This paper analyzes the influence of steam to carbon ratio in gasifier and regeneration reactor, pressure of the system, temperature for oxygen transfer material oxidation, purge percentage in calciner, average sorbent activity and oxidant utilization in fuel cell. Electrical efficiency up to 73% is reached under optimal conditions and CO2 capture efficiencies near 96% ensure a good performance for GHG's climate change mitigation targets.  相似文献
