A novel solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) multigeneration system fueled by biogas derived from agricultural waste (maize silage) is designed and analyzed from the view point of energy and exergy analysis. The system is proposed in order to limit the greenhouse gas emissions as it uses a renewable energy source as a fuel. Electricity, domestic hot water, hydrogen and cooling load are produced simultaneously by the system. The system includes a solid oxide fuel cell; which is the primary mover, a biogas digester subsystem, a cascaded closed loop organic Rankine cycle, a single effect LiBr-water absorption refrigeration cycle, and a proton exchange membrane electrolyzer subsystem. The proposed cascaded closed-loop ORC cycle is considered as one of the advanced heat recovery technologies that significantly improve thermal efficiency of integrated systems. The thermal performance of the proposed system is observed to be higher in comparison to the simple ORC and the recuperated ORC cycles. The integration of a splitter to govern the flue gas separation ratio is also introduced in this study to cater for particular needs/demands. The separation ratio can be used to vary the cooling load or the additional power supplied by the ORC to the system. It is deduced that net electrical power, cooling load, heating capacity of the domestic hot water and total energy and exergy efficiency are 789.7 kW, 317.3 kW, 65.75 kW, 69.86% and 47.4% respectively under integral design conditions. Using a parametric approach, the effects of main parameters on the output of the device are analyzed. Current density is an important parameter for system performance. Increasing the current density leads to increased power produced by the system, decreased exergy efficiency in the system and increased energy efficiency. After-burner, air and fuel heat exchangers are observed to have the highest exergy destruction rates. Lower current density values are desirable for better exergy-based sustainability from the exergetic environmental impact assessment. This paper examines an integrated gasification and solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) system with a gas turbine and steam cycle that uses heat recovery of the gas turbine exhaust. Energy and exergy analyses are performed with two different types of coal. For the two different cases, the energy efficiency of the overall system is 38.1% and 36.7%, while the exergy efficiency is 27% and 23.2%, respectively. The effects of changing the reference temperature on the exergy destruction and exergy efficiency of different components are also reported. A parametric study on the effects of changing the pressure ratio on the component performance is presented.  相似文献

Multi-energy complementary distributed energy system integrated with renewable energy is at the forefront of energy sustainable development and is an important way to achieve energy conservation and emission reduction. A comparative analysis of solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC)-micro gas turbine (MGT)-combined cooling, heating and power (CCHP) systems coupled with two solar methane steam reforming processes is presented in terms of energy, exergy, environmental and economic performances in this paper. The first is to couple with the traditional solar methane steam reforming process. Then the produced hydrogen-rich syngas is directly sent into the SOFC anode to produce electricity. The second is to couple with the medium-temperature solar methane membrane separation and reforming process. The produced pure hydrogen enters the SOFC anode to generate electricity, and the remaining small amount of fuel gas enters the afterburner to increase the exhaust gas enthalpy. Both systems transfer the low-grade solar energy to high-grade hydrogen, and then orderly release energy in the systems. The research results show that the solar thermochemical efficiency, energy efficiency and exergy efficiency of the second system reach 52.20%, 77.97% and 57.29%, respectively, 19.05%, 7.51% and 3.63% higher than those of the first system, respectively. Exergy analysis results indicate that both the solar heat collection process and the SOFC electrochemical process have larger exergy destruction. The levelized cost of products of the first system is about 0.0735$/h that is lower than that of the second system. And these two new systems have less environmental impact, with specific CO2 emissions of 236.98 g/kWh and 249.89 g/kWh, respectively.  相似文献

This paper presents exergy analysis of a conceptualized combined cogeneration plant that employs pressurized oxygen blown coal gasifier and high‐temperature, high‐pressure solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) in the topping cycle and a bottoming steam cogeneration cycle. Useful heat is supplied by the pass‐out steam from the steam turbine and also by the steam raised separately in an evaporator placed in the heat recovery steam generator (HRSG). Exergy analysis shows that major part of plant exergy destruction takes place in gasifier and SOFC while considerable losses are also attributed to gas cooler, combustion chamber and HRSG. Exergy losses are found to decrease with increasing pressure ratio across the gas turbine for all of these components except the gas cooler. In this paper, an integrated solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) and biomass gasification system is modeled to study the effect of gasification agent (air, enriched oxygen and steam) on its performance. In the present modeling, a heat transfer model for SOFC and thermodynamic models for the rest of the components are used. In addition, exergy balances are written for the system components. The results show that using steam as the gasification agent yields the highest electrical efficiency (41.8%), power-to-heat ratio (4.649), and exergetic efficiency (39.1%), but the lowest fuel utilization efficiency (50.8%). In addition, the exergy destruction is found to be the highest at the gasifier for the air and enriched oxygen gasification cases and the heat exchanger that supplies heat to the air entering the SOFC for the steam gasification case.  相似文献

This paper presents exergy analysis of a hybrid solid oxide fuel cell and gas turbine (SOFC/GT) system in comparison with retrofitted system with steam injection. It is proposed to use hot gas turbine exhaust gases heat in a heat recovery steam generator to produce steam and inject it into gas turbine. Based on a steady-state model of the processes, exergy flow rates are calculated for all components and a detailed exergy analysis is performed. The components with the highest proportion of irreversibility in the hybrid systems are identified and compared. It is shown that steam injection decreases the wasted exergy from the system exhaust and boosts the exergetic efficiency by 12.11%. Also, 17.87% and 12.31% increase in exergy output and the thermal efficiency, respectively, is demonstrated. A parametric study is also performed for different values of compression pressure ratio, current density and pinch point temperature difference.  相似文献

This article presents an innovative combined heat and power system comprising a solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC), a heat recovery unit, and a lithium bromide absorption power cycle (APC). The energy, exergy, economic, and environmental perspectives of the proposed system are compared against the same configuration using an organic Rankine cycle (ORC), recovering the waste heat of the SOFC. A multi-criteria optimization based on the Grey Wolf approach is applied to each system to specify the best operation conditions having the exergy efficiency and total cost rate as the objectives. Furthermore, a parametric investigation is conducted to assess the effects of changing the decision variables on the systems proficiencies. The results indicate that although the ORC-based cycle is economically very slightly superior, the integration of the SOFC with the APC offers a much higher exergy efficiency due to the better temperature matching between the working fluid and heat source. Optimization can increase the exergy efficiencies of the SOFC-ORC and the SOFC-APC systems by about 13.8% and 14.7% while reducing the total cost rate by 11.2 $/h and 11.0 $/h, respectively, compared to the base system. Environmental analysis results reveal that APC use leads to a lower emission of 2.8 kg/MWh.  相似文献

An integrated process of biomass gasification and solid oxide fuel cells (SOFC) is investigated using energy and exergy analyses. The performance of the system is assessed by calculating several parameters such as electrical efficiency, combined heat and power efficiency, power to heat ratio, exergy destruction ratio, and exergy efficiency. A performance comparison of power systems for different gasification agents is given by thermodynamic analysis. Exergy analysis is applied to investigate exergy destruction in components in the power systems. When using oxygen-enriched air as gasification agent, the gasifier reactor causes the greatest exergy destruction. About 29% of the chemical energy of the biomass is converted into net electric power, while about 17% of it is used to for producing hot water for district heating purposes. The total exergy efficiency of combined heat and power is 29%. For the case in which steam as the gasification agent, the highest exergy destruction lies in the air preheater due to the great temperature difference between the hot and cold side. The net electrical efficiency is about 40%. The exergy combined heat and power efficiency is above 36%, which is higher than that when air or oxygen-enriched air as gasification agent.  相似文献

In this study, both energetic and exergetic performances of a combined heat and power (CHP) system for vehicular applications are evaluated. This system proposes ammonia-fed solid oxide fuel cells based on proton conducting electrolyte (SOFC-H+) with a heat recovery option. Fuel consumption of combined fuel cell and energy storage system is investigated for several cases. The performance of the portable SOFC system is studied in a wide range of the cell’s average current densities and fuel utilization ratios. Considering a heat recovery option, the system exergy efficiency is calculated to be 60-90% as a function of current density, whereas energy efficiency varies between 60 and 40%, respectively. The largest exergy destructions take place in the SOFC stack, micro-turbine, and first heat exchanger. The entropy generation rate in the CHP system shows a 25% decrease for every 100 °C increase in average operating temperature.  相似文献

A new integrated combined cooling, heating and power system which includes a solid oxide fuel cell, Stirling engine, steam turbine, linear Fresnel solar field and double effect absorption chiller is introduced and investigated from energy, exergy and thermodynamic viewpoints. In this process, produced electrical power by the fuel cell and steam turbines is 6971.8 kW. Stirling engine uses fuel cell waste heat and produces 656 kW power. In addition, absorption chiller is driven by waste heat of the Stirling engine and generates 2118.8 kW of cooling load. Linear Fresnel solar field produces 961.7 kW of thermal power as a heat exchanger. The results indicate that, electrical, energy and exergy efficiencies and total exergy destruction of the proposed system are 49.7%, 67.5%, 55.6% and 12560 kW, respectively. Finally, sensitivity analysis to investigate effect of the different parameters such as flow rate of inputs, outlet pressure of the components and temperature changes of the solar system on the hybrid system performance is also done.  相似文献

Proton-exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) and liquid hydrogen are gaining attention as a power generation system and alternative fuel of ship. This study proposes a novel PEMFC system, integrated with the organic Rankine cycle–direct expansion cycle (ORC-DEC), which exploits cold exergy from liquid hydrogen and low temperature waste heat generated by the PEMFC for application in a liquid hydrogen fueled ship. A thermodynamic model of each subsystem was established and analyzed from the economic, energy, and exergy viewpoints. Moreover, parametric analysis was performed to identify the effects of certain key parameters, such as the working fluid in the ORC, pressure exerted by the fuel pump, cooling water temperature of the PEMFC, and the stack current density on the system performance. The results showed that the proposed system could generate 221 kW of additional power. The overall system achieved an exergy and energy efficiency of 43.52 and 40.45%, respectively. The PEMFC system had the largest exergy destruction, followed by the cryogenic heat exchanger. Propane showed the best performance among the several investigated ORC working fluids and the system performance improved with the increase in the cooling water temperature of the PEMFC. The economic analysis showed that the average payback time of ORC-DEC was 11.2 years and the average net present value (NPV) was $295,268 at liquid hydrogen costing $3 to $7, showing the potential viability of the system.  相似文献

Based on the recent improvements in high-temperature fuel cells, distributed power generation fuel cell system of small scale (~hundreds kilowatts) has been widely investigated. To improve the system efficiency, most developments focused on the fuel cell stack, but little was paid attention to the intrinsic exergy destructions at the other parts of a typical configuration. The main objective of this study is to investigate a feasibility of reducing the exergy destruction in the reforming process of fuel cell system, by using a homogeneous charge compression ignition (HCCI) engine as a replacement of existing reforming subsystems, i.e. steam methane reforming (SMR), partial oxidation (POX), or autothermal reforming (ATR), in a solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) system. To do this, parametric studies with exergy analysis were conducted by using in-house 1-D SOFC and 0-D HCCI simulation models. In results, due to the work production from HCCI reforming engine in addition to the work of the fuel stack, it is demonstrated that HCCI-SOFC system has higher system efficiency than partial oxidation (POX) and autothermal reforming (ATR) systems, which use similar partial oxidation reaction for reformer operation. Furthermore, because of no requirement for catalyst, the HCCI system demonstrates wider operating range than that of POX and ATR systems. When compared to the steam methane reforming (SMR)-SOFC system, the HCCI-SOFC system has the lower total work but slightly higher exergetic system efficiency, mainly caused by large amount of heat exergy needed to operate endothermic reforming process in the SMR process. Based on our simulation data, the exergetic efficiency of the HCCI-SOFC system shows 6.0%, 2.1% and 0.4% higher than POX, ATR and SMR systems at the highest efficiency points of each strategy, while 5.5%, 5.8% and 3.8% higher than POX, ATR and SMR systems at 99% methane conversion points in each reformer, respectively.  相似文献

A new integrated power generation system driven by the solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) is proposed to improve the conversion efficiency of conventional energy by using a Kalina cycle to recover the waste heat of exhaust from the SOFC-GT. The system using methane as main fuel consists an internal reforming SOFC, an after-burner, a gas turbine, preheaters, compressors and a Kalina cycle. The proposed system is simulated based on the developed mathematical models, and the overall system performance has been evaluated by the first and second law of thermodynamics. Exergy analysis is conducted to indicate the thermodynamic losses in each components. A parametric analysis is also carried out to examine the effects of some key thermodynamic parameters on the system performance. Results indicate that as compressor pressure ratio increases, SOFC electrical efficiency increases and there is an optimal compressor pressure ratio to reach the maximum overall electrical efficiency and exergy efficiency. It is also found that SOFC electrical efficiency, overall electrical efficiency and exergy efficiency can be improved by increasing air flow rate. Also, the largest exergy destruction occurs in the SOFC followed by the after-burner, the waste heat boiler, the gas turbine. The compressor pressure ratio and air flow rate have significant effects on the exergy destruction in some main components of system.  相似文献

The design of solid oxide fuel cells (SOFC) using biogas for distributed power generation is a promising alternative to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the energy and waste management sectors. Furthermore, the high efficiency of SOFCs in conjunction with the possibility to produce hydrogen may be a financially attractive option for biogas plants. However, the influence of design variables in the optimization of revenues and efficiency has seldom been studied for these novel cogeneration systems. Thus, in order to fulfill this knowledge gap, a multi-objective optimization problem using the NSGA-II algorithm is proposed to evaluate optimal solutions for systems producing hydrogen and electricity from biogas. Moreover, a mixed-integer linear optimization routine is used to ensure an efficient heat recovery system with minimal number of heat exchanger units. The results indicate that hydrogen production with a fuel cell downstream is able to achieve high exergy efficiencies (65–66%) and a drastic improvement in net present value (1346%) compared with sole power generation. Despite the additional equipment, the investment costs are estimated to be quite similar (12% increase) to conventional steam reforming systems and the levelized cost of hydrogen is very competitive (2.27 USD/kgH2).  相似文献

In this study, energy, exergy, environmental and sustainability assessments of jet and hydrogen (H2) fueled J79-GE-17 turbojet engine are done. The results are compared for hydrogen and JP-8 fueled modes. It is found that aviation performance metrics are better for hydrogen utilization mode. By using hydrogen fuel instead of JP-8 fuel; the specific thrust and power rates reduce 1.037%, the specific fuel consumption decreases 63.987% the energy efficiency of the turbojet engine reduces from 30.293% to 29.979%, the exergy efficiency of the combustion chamber component increases 10.581%, and the turbojet engine exergy efficiency rises from 28.54% to 30.73%. The sustainability of the hydrogen fuel utilization for the J79-GE-17 turbojet engine is higher than JP-8 fuel utilization mode. The hydrogen utilization decreases the emission index as 73.36% and the environmental impact as 99.05% comparing to JP-8 usage mode. As a result, hydrogen fuel utilization in this engine is a better choice for emissions and environment, while it can be used as effective as JP-8 fuel.  相似文献

This study proposes a trigeneration system based on solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) for generating power, cooling and heating simultaneously. The system mainly contains a SOFC, a gas turbine (GT), an organic Rankine cycle (ORC), a steam ejector refrigerator (SER) and a heat exchanger. The thermodynamic, exergoeconomic and exergoenvironmental models of proposed trigeneration system are developed, and the effects of design parameters on system performances are analyzed. The results indicate that the system average product cost and environmental impact per unit of exergy increase with SOFC inlet temperature and working pressure, the pinch point temperature difference and evaporating pressure of Generator, while decrease with the current density of fuel cell. Finally, optimization is performed to achieve the optimal exergy-based performance. It is revealed that though the system exergy efficiency is decreased by 7.64% after optimization, the system average product cost and environmental impact per unit of exergy are significantly reduced.  相似文献

Today’s concern regarding limited fossil fuel resources and their contribution to environmental pollution have changed the general trend to utilization of high efficiency power generation facilities like fuel cells. According to annual reducing capital cost of these utilities, their entrance to commercial level is completely expected. Hot exhaust gases of Solid Oxide Fuel Cells (SOFC) are potentially applicable in heat recovery systems. In the present research, a SOFC with the capacity of 215 kW has been combined with a recovery cycle for the sake of simultaneous of electric power, cooling load and domestic hot water demand of a hotel with 4600 m2 area. This case study has been evaluated by energy and exergy analysis regarding exergy loss and second law efficiency in each component. The effect of fuel and air flow rate and also current density as controlling parameters of fuel cell performance have been studied and visual software for energy-exergy analysis and parametric study has been developed. At the end, an economic study of simultaneous energy generation and recovery cycle in comparison with common residential power and energy systems has been done. General results show that based on fuel lower heating value, the maximum efficiency of 83 percent for simultaneous energy generation and heat recovery cycle can be achieved. This efficiency is related to typical climate condition of July in the afternoon, while all the electrical energy, cooling load and 40 percent of hot water demand could be provided by this cycle. About 49 percent of input exergy can be efficiently recovered for energy requirements of building. Generator in absorption chiller and SOFC are the most destructive components of exergy in this system.  相似文献

The fuel cell is an emerging cogeneration technology that has been applied successfully in Japan, the USA and some countries in the European Union. This system performs direct conversion of the chemical energy of the oxidation of hydrogen from fuel with atmospheric oxygen into direct current electricity and waste heat via an electrochemical process relying on the use of different electrolytes (phosphoric acid, molten carbonate and solid oxide, depending on operating temperature). This technology permits the recovery of waste heat, available from 200°C up to 1000°C depending on the electrolyte technology, which can be used in the production of steam, hot or cold water, or hot or cold air, depending on the associated recuperation equipment. In this paper, an energy, exergy and economic analysis of a fuel cell cogeneration system (FCCS) is presented. The FCCS is applied in a segment of the tertiary sector to show that it is a feasible alternative for rational decentralized energy production under Brazilian conditions. The technoeconomic analysis shows a global efficiency or fuel utilization efficiency of 86%. Analysis shows that the exergy losses in the fuel cell unit and the absorption refrigeration system are significant. Furthermore, the payback period estimated is about 3 and 5 years for investments in fuel cells of 1000 and 1500 US$/kW, respectively.  相似文献

In this paper, a conceptual hybrid biomass gasification system is developed to produce hydrogen and is exergoeconomically analyzed. The system is based on steam biomass gasification with the lumped solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) and solid oxide electrolyser cell (SOEC) subsystem as the core components. The gasifier gasifies sawdust in a steam medium and operates at a temperature range of 1023-1423 K and near atmospheric pressure. The analysis is conducted for a specific steam biomass ratio of 0.8 kmol-steam/kmol-biomass. The gasification process is assumed to be self-thermally standing. The pressurized SOFC and SOEC are of planar types and operate at 1000 K and 1.2 bar. The system can produce multi-outputs, such as hydrogen (with a production capacity range of 21.8-25.2 kgh−1), power and heat. The internal hydrogen consumption in the lumped SOFC-SOEC subsystem increases from 8.1 to 8.6 kg/h. The SOFC performs an efficiency of 50.3% and utilizes the hydrogen produced from the steam that decomposes in the SOEC. The exergoeconomic analysis is performed to investigate and describe the exergetic and economic interactions between the system components through calculations of the unit exergy cost of the process streams. It obtains a set of cost balance equations belonging to an exergy flow with material streams to and from the components which constitute the system. Solving the developed cost balance equations provides the cost values of the exergy streams. For the gasification temperature range and the electricity cost of 0.1046 $/kWh considered, the unit exergy cost of hydrogen ranges from 0.258 to 0.211 $/kWh.  相似文献

Solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) is a promising technology for electricity generation. Sulfur-free syngas from a gas-cleaning unit serves as fuel for SOFC in integrated gasification fuel cell (IGFC) power plants. It converts the chemical energy of fuel gas directly into electric energy, thus high efficiencies can be achieved. The outputs from SOFC can be utilized by heat recovery steam generator (HRSG), which drives the steam turbine for electricity production. The SOFC stack model was developed using the process flow sheet simulator Aspen Plus, which is of the equilibrium type. Various ranges of syngas properties gathered from different literature were used for the simulation. The results indicate a trade-off efficiency and power with respect to a variety of SOFC inputs. The HRSG located after SOFC was included in the current simulation study with various operating parameters. This paper describes IGFC power plants, particularly the optimization of HRSG to improve the efficiency of the heat recovery from the SOFC exhaust gas and to maximize the power production in the steam cycle in the IGFC system. HRSG output from different pressure levels varies depending on the SOFC output. The steam turbine efficiency was calculated for measuring the total power plant output. The aim of this paper is to provide a simulation model for the optimal selection of the operative parameters of HRSG and SOFC for the IGFC system by comparing it with other models. The simulation model should be flexible enough for use in future development and capable of predicting system performance under various operating conditions.  相似文献
