Wood with its rational and magical inner structures was used as a template to fabricate C/Al and (C + SiC)/Al composites in this research. The carbon frame was first pyrolyzed from the wood template. The final composites were then obtained by infiltrating Al alloy and silicone resin into the carbon frame. The microstructures and the wear properties of these products were analyzed. The results show that the structures of the C/Al and (C + SiC)/Al composites are controlled by the natural structures of the wood. Moreover, the carbon in the composites reduced the wear rate of the Al alloy as an efficient lubricant. Compared with the C/Al composite, the (C + SiC)/Al composite shows better wear resistance because of silicon carbide.  相似文献

The 6061 alloy matrix composites reinforced with 10 wt.% and 15 wt.% of SiC nanoparticles with an average diameter of ~ 500 nm were hot extruded in strip shape from ball milled powders. The microstructures and textures of the hot extruded nanocomposites have been investigated by means of three dimensional orientation distribution functions and electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD) techniques. Pure Al and 6061 alloy extruded strips from atomised powders have been produced for comparison purposes. The results show that the non-deformable SiC particulates have a strong influence on the formation of extrusion textures in the matrix. Pure Al and 6061 alloy develop a typical β fibre texture after extrusion in strip shape. For 6061/SiCp nanocomposites, the intensities of major texture components decrease with increasing amount of SiC particles. The total intensities of Brass, Dillamore and S components have decreased by 19% for 6061/10 wt.% SiCp and 40% for 6061/15 wt.% SiCp composites when compared with the 6061 alloy. EBSD analysis on local grain orientations shows limited Al grain rotations in SiC rich zones and decreased texture intensities.  相似文献

In this research work, SiC particles have been successfully in-situ synthesized in Al–Si–Cu matrix alloy utilizing a novel liquid–solid reaction method. The effect of copper addition on the synthesis of SiC in Al–Si–C–Cu system was investigated. The composites mainly contain spherical SiC particles and θ-Al2Cu eutectic phases, which are embedded in the α-Al matrix. Results indicated that the temperature for forming in-situ SiC particles significantly reduced from 750 °C to 700 °C with the copper addition. The size of in-situ synthesized SiC particles can be as low as 0.2 μm. Further study found that the addition of 10 wt.% copper into Al–Si–C alloy causes its solidus temperature to decrease by about 65 °C. Additionally, the Rockwell hardness value of SiCp/Al–18Si–5Cu composites has an average of 92, which is 50% higher than that of the sample without copper addition.  相似文献

The coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) of stir cast Al–Mg alloy A535 and its composites reinforced with a mixture of 5 wt.% fly ash and 5 wt.% silicon carbide, 10 wt.% and 15 wt.% fly ash particles was investigated using thermomechanical analysis (TMA). Micromechnical models proposed by Turner, Kerner and Schapery as well as the rule of mixture (ROM) were employed to compute the CTEs of the composites within the same temperature range. Experimental results showed that the CTE of A535 decreased with the addition of fly ash and SiC particles. Subjecting the test samples to a second re-heat cycle also affected their CTE response. The CTE obtained for A535 during the first heating cycle was higher than that obtained during the re-heat cycle whereas the reverse result was obtained for the fly ash composites. Furthermore, the analytical models could not predict the experimental CTEs the composites due to complexities arising from the presence of porosities, reaction products and other defects.  相似文献

Silicon carbide (SiC)-particle-dispersed-aluminum (Al) matrix composites were fabricated in a unique fabrication method, where the powder mixture of SiC, pure Al and Al–5mass% Si alloy was uniquely designed to form continuous solid–liquid co-existent state during spark plasma sintering (SPS) process. Composites fabricated in such a way can be well consolidated by heating during SPS processing in a temperature range between 798 K and 876 K for a heating duration of 1.56 ks. Microstructures of the composites thus fabricated were examined by scanning electron microscopy and no reaction was detected at the interface between the SiC particle and the Al matrix. The relative packing density of the Al–matrix composite containing SiC was higher than 99% in a volume fraction range of SiC between 40% and 55%. Thermal conductivity of the composite increased with increasing the SiC content in the composite at a SiC fraction range between 40 vol.% and 50 vol.%. The highest thermal conductivity was obtained for Al–50 vol.% SiC composite and reached 252 W/mK. The coefficient of thermal expansion of the composites falls in the upper line of Kerner’s model, indicating strong bonding between the SiC particle and the Al matrix in the composite.  相似文献

In this study mechanical properties of copper were enhanced by adding 1 wt.%, 2 wt.%, 3 wt.% and 5 wt.% SiC particles into the matrix. SiC particles of having 1 μm, 5 μm and 30 μm sizes were used as reinforcement. Composite samples were produced by powder metallurgy method and sintering was performed in an open atmospheric furnace at 700 °C for 2 h. Optical and SEM studies showed that the distribution of the reinforced particle was uniform. XRD analysis indicated that the dominant components in the sintered composites were Cu and SiC. Relative density and electrical conductivity of the composites decreased with increasing the amount of SiC and increased with increasing SiC particle size. Hardness of the composites increased with both amount and the particle size of SiC particles. A maximum relative density of 98% and electrical conductivity of 96% IACS were obtained for Cu–1 wt.% SiC with 30 μm particle size.  相似文献

In this study, dry sliding wear behavior and corrosion resistance of Al–Cu–SiC–xNi (x: 0, 0.5, 1, 1.5 wt.%) composites were investigated. Effect of nickel content on the microstructure and hardness of the alloys was also studied. Wear tests were conducted using a ball on disc wear test device. Corrosion behavior of Al–Cu–SiC–xNi composite alloys in 3.5% NaCl solution was investigated by using potentiodynamic polarization, impedance spectroscopy and cronoamperometric methods. The results showed that the hardness of the composite alloy increases with increasing nickel content. Maximum wear resistance is reported with the addition of 1 wt.%Ni. It was determined that corrosion resistance of Al–Cu–SiC composite alloys improved with increasing nickel content in the alloy.  相似文献

Three kinds of A356 based composites reinforced with 3 wt.% Al2O3 (average particle size: 170 μm), 3 wt.% SiC (average particle size: 15 μm), and 3 wt.% of mixed Al2O3–SiC powders (a novel composite with equal weights of reinforcement) were fabricated in this study via a two-step approach. This first process step was semi-solid stir casting, which was followed by rolling as the second process step. Electroless deposition of a copper coating onto the reinforcement was used to improve the wettability of the ceramic particles by the molten A356 alloy. From microstructural characterization, it was found that coarse alumina particles were most effective as obstacles for grain growth during solidification. The rolling process broke the otherwise present fine silicon platelets, which were mostly present around the Al2O3 particles. The rolling process was also found to cause fracture of silicon particles, improve the distribution of fine SiC particles, and eliminate porosity remaining after the first casting process step. Examination of the mechanical properties of the obtained composites revealed that samples which contained a bimodal ceramic reinforecment of fine SiC and coarse Al2O3 particles had the highest strength and hardness.  相似文献

A method of in situ joining of titanium to SiC/Al composites by low pressure infiltration was proposed. The effect of infiltration temperature on microstructure and bending strength of in situ joining composites was investigated and the best infiltration temperature was confirmed to be 710 °C. The interfacial region of SiC/Al/Ti composites was consisted of Ti substrate, Al–Ti interfacial layer, Al layer and SiC/Al composite. The bending strength of SiC/Al composites kept nearly constant as the infiltration temperature changed while that of SiC/Al/Ti composites was influenced significantly by the infiltration temperature. The fracture occurred at the Al–Ti and Al–SiC/Al interfaces alternately as infiltrated at 670 °C. But as the infiltration temperature was increased to 710 °C, the fracture occurred only at the Al–SiC/Al interface which shows a great interfacial bonding at the Al–Ti interface. The formation of Al–Ti brittle intermetallics and the effect of crystallization and grain coarsening are two possible reasons which lead to the decrease of bending strength when the infiltration temperatures were increased from 710 °C to 730 °C.  相似文献

In this work, the effect of SiC particle size and its amount on both physical and mechanical properties of Al matrix composite were investigated. SiC of particle size 70 nm, 10 μm and 40 μm, and Al powder of particle size 60 μm were used. Composites of Al with 5 and 10 wt.% SiC were fabricated by powder metallurgy technique followed by hot extrusion. Phase composition and microstructure were characterized. Relative density, thermal conductivity, hardness and compression strength were studied. The results showed that the X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis indicated that the dominant components were Al and SiC. Densification and thermal conductivity of the composites decreased with increasing the amount of SiC and increased with increasing SiC particle size. Scanning electron microscope (SEM) studies showed that the distribution of the reinforced particle was uniform. Increasing the amount of SiC leads to higher hardness and consequently improves the compressive strength of Al–SiC composite. Moreover, as the SiC particle size decreases, hardness and compressive strength increase. The use of fine SiC particles has a similar effect on both hardness and compressive strength.  相似文献

The compression properties of the aluminum alloy 2024 metal matrix composites reinforced with 50 vol.% SiC particles were investigated using Instron testing machine and split Hopkinson pressure bar (SHPB) in this paper. The compression stress–strain curves were obtained at the strain rates ranging from 1 × 10 3 to 2.5 × 103/s. The fracture surfaces were characterized by scanning electron microscopy. The results showed that SiCp/2024 Al composites exhibited high strain-rate sensitivity. The strength of composites tended to increase–decrease with increasing of strain rates. The effect of the strain rate on elongation was also discussed.  相似文献

In this experimental study, aluminium (Al)-based graphite (Gr) and silicon carbide (SiC) particle-reinforced, self-lubricating hybrid composite materials were manufactured by powder metallurgy. The tribological and mechanical properties of these composite materials were investigated under dry sliding conditions. The results of the tests revealed that the SiC-reinforced hybrid composites exhibited a lower wear loss compared to the unreinforced alloy and Al–Gr composites. It was found that with an increase in the SiC content, the wear resistance increased monotonically with hardness. The hybridisation of the two reinforcements also improved the wear resistance of the composites, especially under high sliding speeds. Additionally, the wear loss of the hybrid composites decreased with increasing applied load and sliding distance, and a low friction coefficient and low wear loss were achieved at high sliding speeds. The composite with 5 wt.% Gr and 20 wt.% SiC showed the greatest improvement in tribological performance. The wear mechanism was studied through worn surface and wear debris analysis as well as microscopic examination of the wear tracks. This study revealed that the addition of both a hard reinforcement (e.g., SiC) and soft reinforcement (e.g., graphite) significantly improves the wear resistance of aluminium composites. On the whole, these results indicate that the hybrid aluminium composites can be considered as an outstanding material where high strength and wear-resistant components are of major importance, predominantly in the aerospace and automotive engineering sectors.  相似文献

The effect of Cu with low contents of 10, 12, 15 wt.% on the microstructure and melting point of Al–Si–Cu–Ni alloy has been investigated. Results showed that low-melting-point properties of Al–Si–Cu–Ni alloys with low contents of Cu were attributed to disappearance of Al–Si binary eutectic reaction and introduction of Al–Si–Cu–Ni quaternary reaction. With raising Cu content from 10 to 15 wt.%, the amount of complex eutectic phases formed during low temperature reactions (Al–Cu, Al–Si–Cu and Al–Si–Cu–Ni alloy reactions) increased and the melting temperature of Al–Si–Cu–Ni filler metals declined. Brazing of 6061 aluminum alloy with Al–10Si–15Cu–4Ni (all in wt.%) filler metal of a melting temperature range from 519.3 to 540.2 °C has been carried out successfully at 570 °C. Sound joints can be obtained with Al–10Si–15Cu–4Ni filler metal when brazed at 570 °C for holding time of 60 min or more, and achieved high shear strength up to 144.4 MPa.  相似文献

(TiC + Nd2O3)/Ti–4.5 wt.%Si composites were in situ synthesized by a non-consumable arc-melting technology. The phases in the composites were identified by X-ray diffraction. Microstructures of the composites were observed by optical microscope and scanning electron microscope. The composite contains four phases: TiC, Nd2O3, Ti5Si3 and Ti. The TiC and Nd2O3 particles with dendritic and near-equiaxed shapes are well distributed in Ti–4.5 wt.%Si alloy matrix, and the fine Nd2O3 particles exist in the network Ti + Ti5Si3 eutectic cells and Ti matrix of the composites. The hardness and compressive strength of the composites are markedly higher than that of Ti–4.5 wt.%Si alloy. When the TiC content is fixed as 10 wt.% in the composites, the hardness is enhanced as the Nd2O3 content increases from 8 wt.% to 13 wt.%, but the compressive strength peaks at the Nd2O3 content of 8 wt.%.  相似文献

The present investigation is on characterization of functionally graded composites based on 356 cast and 2124 wrought aluminum alloys reinforced with SiC particles of 23 μm average particle size processed by liquid metal stir casting followed by horizontal centrifugal casting. A maximum of 45 and 40% SiC particles are obtained at the outer periphery of the Al(356)-SiC and Al(2124)-SiC FGMMC casting respectively. The maximum hardness obtained at the outer periphery after heat treatment for Al(356)-SiC and Al(2124)-SiC FGMMC are 155 BHN and 145 BHN respectively. The freezing range of the matrix alloy has been found to dictate the nature of transition from particle enriched to depleted zone. These composites are suitable for making engineering components, which require very high surface hardness and wear resistances with high specific strength.  相似文献

In this study, the influence of YPSZ/CeO2 on the surface performance of the laser-cladded composites was firstly researched. Laser cladding of the Fe3Al/Co42B + YPSZ/CeO2 pre-placed powders on Ti–6Al–4V alloy can form the composite coating, which increased the wear resistance of the substrate. With addition of 20 wt.%TiC, the longevity of the molten pool decreased, leading to the decreasing of the growth time of the precipitates and the content of CoTi, TiNi, AlNi, Ti3Al and TiB phases. The addition of 20 wt.%TiC did not improve the tribological properties of the Fe3Al/Co42B + YPSZ/CeO2 laser-cladded composite coating.  相似文献

Al–Cu matrix composites reinforced with diamond particles (Al–Cu/diamond composites) have been produced by a squeeze casting method. Cu content added to Al matrix was varied from 0 to 3.0 wt.% to detect the effect on thermal conductivity and thermal expansion behavior of the resultant Al–Cu/diamond composites. The measured thermal conductivity for the Al–Cu/diamond composites increased from 210 to 330 W/m/K with increasing Cu content from 0 to 3.0 wt.%. Accordingly, the coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) was tailored from 13 × 10−6 to 6 × 10−6/K, which is compatible with the CTE of semiconductors in electronic packaging applications. The enhanced thermal conductivity and reduced coefficient of thermal expansion were ascribed to strong interface bonding in the Al–Cu/diamond composites. Cu addition has lowered the melting point and resulted in the formation of Al2Cu phase in Al matrix. This is the underlying mechanism responsible for the strengthening of Al–Cu/diamond interface. The results show that Cu alloying is an effective approach to promoting interface bonding between Al and diamond.  相似文献

Polymethylsiloxane (PMS) was used as a binder to make self-supporting SiC preforms for pressurized aluminum melt infiltration. The SiC particles were coated with preceramic polymer by spray drying; this ensured a fine and homogeneous distribution coupled with a high yield of the binder. The conditioned SiC powder mixtures were processed into preforms by warm pressing, curing and pyrolysis. A polymer content of 1.25 wt.% conferred sufficient stability to the preforms to enable composite processing. Using this procedure, SiC preforms with various SiC particle size distributions were prepared. The resulting Al/SiC composites with SiC contents of about 60 vol.% obtained by squeeze casting infiltration exhibit a 4-point bending strength of ∼500 MPa and Young’s moduli of ∼200 GPa. These values are comparable to those of compositionally identical, but binder-free composites. It is thus shown that the PMS-derived binder confers the desired strength to the SiC preforms without impairing the mechanical properties of the resulting Al/SiC composites.  相似文献

The evolution of microstructure and coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) of the Al–50Si (wt.%) alloy manufactured by spray deposition followed by hot isostatic pressing (HIP) are systematically investigated. The results indicate that the microstructure of the deposited alloy is composed of primary Si with average size of 12.5 ± 0.1 μm and α-Al. The CTE of the deposited alloy is higher than the corresponding alloy produced by casting due to the high solid solubility of Al in Si. After HIP, the CTE is lower than the parent as-deposited alloy owing to the high solid solubility of Si in Al. The residual thermal stress results in a higher CTE during the second heating as a result of the CTE mismatch between the Al matrix and the primary Si particles. Furthermore, the measured CTE value is in good agreement with the Turner model after complete densification by HIP at 843 K.  相似文献

Effect of Mg content on microstructure and mechanical properties of Al–xMg/10 wt.%Al2O3 (x = 0, 5, 10 and 15 wt.%) powder mixtures during milling was investigated. The results show that for the binary Al–Mg matrix, the predominant phase was an Al–Mg solid solution. With the increment of Mg to 15 wt.% the crystallite sizes of 20 h milled powders diminish from 44 to 26 nm and lattice strains increased from 0.22% to 0.32% caused by Mg atomic penetration into the substitution sites of the Al lattice. With up to 15 wt.% Mg (for 20 h milled composites) microhardness increases from 120 to 230 HV caused by the increment of the Mg concentration and dislocation density as well as the decrease of the crystallite size.  相似文献
