This paper proposes a new QoS framework, called the On-Demand QoS Path framework (ODP). It provides end-to-end QoS guarantees to individual flows with minimal overhead, while keeping the scalability characteristic of DiffServ. ODP exercises per-flow admission control and end-to-end bandwidth reservation at the edge of the network and only differentiates service types in the core of the network. In addition, to adapt to dynamically changing traffic load, ODP monitors the bandwidth utilization of the network and performs dynamic bandwidth reconfiguration in the network core based on the monitored bandwidth utilization. Through extensive simulations, the performance of ODP is investigated and compared with that of IntServ and DiffServ frameworks. The simulation results clearly showed that ODP provides end-to-end QoS guarantees to individual flows, which DiffServ can not provide, with much less overhead than IntServ.  相似文献

The combined use of the differentiated services (DiffServ) and multiprotocol label switching (MPLS) technologies is envisioned to provide guaranteed quality of service (QoS) for multimedia traffic in IP networks, while effectively using network resources. These networks need to be managed adaptively to cope with the changing network conditions and provide satisfactory QoS. An efficient strategy is to map the traffic from different DiffServ classes of service on separate label switched paths (LSPs), which leads to distinct layers of MPLS networks corresponding to each DiffServ class. In this paper, three aspects of the management of such a layered MPLS network are discussed. In particular, an optimal technique for the setup of LSPs, capacity allocation of the LSPs and LSP routing are presented. The presented techniques are based on measurement of the network state to adapt the network configuration to changing traffic conditions.  相似文献

The overall quality of network connections has a significant impact on the performance of networked applications. As a result, Quality-of-Service (QoS) management for networked multimedia applications over IP is a significant and immediate challenge. While differentiated services (DiffServ) provide a sense of resource allocation and QoS, they do not guarantee QoS. This paper presents the design, implementation and evaluation of a content-aware bandwidth broker (CABB) that manages QoS for multimedia applications in a DiffServ environment. CABB allocates network resources to multimedia flows based on client requirements, the adaptability of the application, and its tolerance to network level parameters such as bandwidth, delay, and latency. It has been implemented and evaluated using the NS-2 simulator toolkit. Evaluations show that CABB improves network resource allocations and increases overall throughput. Furthermore multimedia application flows are better managed and controlled, improving perceived QoS and avoiding possible congestion at core routers.  相似文献

Wireless networks are expected to support real-time interactive multimedia traffic and must be able, therefore, to provide their users with quality-of-service (QoS) guarantees. Although the QoS provisioning problem arises in wireline networks as well, mobility of hosts and scarcity of bandwidth makes QoS provisioning a challenging task in wireless networks. It has been noticed that multimedia applications can tolerate and gracefully adapt to transient fluctuations in the QoS that they receive from the network. The additional flexibility afforded by the ability of multimedia applications to tolerate and adapt to transient changes in QoS can be exploited by protocol designers to significantly improve the overall performance of wireless systems. This paper presents a fair resource allocation protocol for multimedia wireless networks that uses a combination of bandwidth reservation and bandwidth borrowing to provide network users with QoS in terms of guaranteed bandwidth, call blocking, and call dropping probabilities. Our view of fairness was inspired by the well-known max-min fairness allocation protocol for wireline networks. Simulation results are presented that compare our protocol to similar schemes.  相似文献

We investigate the optimization of the quality of service (QoS) offered by real-time multimedia adaptive applications through machine learning algorithms. These applications are able to adapt in real time their internal settings (i.e., video sizes, audio and video codecs, among others) to the unpredictably changing capacity of the network. Traditional adaptive applications just select a set of settings to consume less than the available bandwidth. We propose a novel approach in which the selected set of settings is the one which offers a better user-perceived QoS among all those combinations which satisfy the bandwidth restrictions. We use a genetic algorithm to decide when to trigger the adaptation process depending on the network conditions (i.e., loss-rate, jitter, etc.). Additionally, the selection of the new set of settings is done according to a set of rules which model the user-perceived QoS. These rules are learned using the SLIPPER rule induction algorithm over a set of examples extracted from scores provided by real users. We will demonstrate that the proposed approach guarantees a good user-perceived QoS even when the network conditions are constantly changing.  相似文献

区分服务(Diif-Serv)模型其主要是通过实时多媒体通信数据包进行分类和策略控制来达到调节网络资源的目的,从而实现对实时多媒体服务端到端服务质量QoS。如何时多媒体网络系统中的不同的信息流进行正确的区分服务.然后对不同类别采取不同的服务策略和拥塞管理,从而对网络资源进行有效配置,是实现实时多媒体服务端到端服务质量QoS的关键步骤。文章重点对实时多媒体信息如何进行分类及相应的服务策略和拥塞管理进行时比研究,提出实现端到端QoS服务质量的具体措施和解决方案。并在Cisco思科路由器和交换机建立的DiffSeFV网络环境中进行验证,实验结果表明。对实时多媒体信息进行合理的分类及采用相应服务策略.能很好地实现实时多媒体信息流端到端的服务质量QoS。最后阐述了Diffsenr区分服务存在的问题和未来的发展趋势。  相似文献

提出了一种分布式可扩展的接纳控制方案,其目的是为区分服务网络提供端到端服务质量(Quality of Services,QoS)保证,该方案主要由以下部分构成:(1)连接接纳控制协议,主要负责主机和网络节点以及网络节点和带宽代理之间的信息传送,实现对连接请求的串行操作;(2)位于网络核心节点的可用带宽估计算法;(3)位于网络边缘节点的接纳控制算法;给出了该方案在视频传输方面的应用实例;利用多种网络拓扑结构和QoS指标评价该方案的性能,实验结果表明该方案能准确地控制可接纳区域和提高网络资源的利用率。  相似文献

Differentiated Service (DiffServ) architecture has been proposed as a scalable QoS architecture for Internet. DiffServ, however, could not control its loads under heavy traffic conditions, and it could not provide strong QoS responses for individual traffic flow. This paper introduces at the edges of a DiffServ domain, a novel two-level admission control scheme, the Fair Intelligent Admission Control (FIAC). At per-class level, FIAC admits traffic according their fairshare and usage while preventing possible congestion within the DiffServ core. At per-flow level, FIAC estimates and allocates the fairshare for each flow within a class.

Simulation results demonstrate that FIAC adheres extremely well to the bandwidth requirements of DiffServ classes while preventing congestion within the DiffServ core. With FIAC's per-flow level enabled, FIAC is able to prevent uncontrolled UDP flows from depriving TCP-controlled flows of bandwidth share when they are aggregated to the DiffServ domain.  相似文献

Mobile environments are characterized by varying locations and network access points of end users, by varying levels of network QoS and often also by limited connectivity and reliability. These aspects have to be considered specifically for distributed multimedia applications, typically involving large amounts of data and specific QoS requirements. This article presents concepts and experiences concerning adaptive services for asynchronous multimedia transmission in mobile environments. We describe two different approaches to solve the problems of adaptation to variable network QoS using generic mechanisms. The first approach takes advantage of a mobile queuing service and is based on our former work on a support platform for mobile computing (see Schill and Kümmel. Mobile Computing Special Issue of Distributed Systems Engineering Journal 1995; 128–41; Schill et al. Proceedings of IMC 96 Workshop on Information Visualization and Mobile Computing. Zentrum für graphische Datenverarbeitung, February 1996). The second approach uses the mobile agent paradigm in the context of an application partitioning model to gain flexibility and maintainability (see Schill et al. In: Papaioannou, Minar, editors, Proceedings. Mobile Agents in the Context of Competition and Cooperation (MAC3), a workshop at Autonomous Agents '99, 1999. p. 34–41.). Both approaches exploit software-based conversion to adapt multimedia data according to bandwidth availability. In future wireless multimedia networks, user mobility management for seamless connection regarding realtime multimedia applications is one of the most important problems. In this paper we propose an opportunity-cost concept-based approach for adaptive bandwidth reservation with admission control for handover calls utilizing network traffic information. Excessive reservation guarantees low blocking probability of handover calls at the cost of high blocking probability of new calls. According to our survey, however, it may degrade bandwidth utilization while no prioritization for handover admissions degrades quality of service (QoS) for ongoing calls. We consider both QoS assurance and bandwidth utilization in order to optimize the amount of bandwidth to reserve for handover admissions. We believe that our scheme could be utilized as a guideline for cost-effective radio resource allocation in mobile multimedia networks.  相似文献

An essential goal of communication networks is to provide multimedia services with QoS streaming. A properly designed multimedia QoS system must reserve requested resources according to user QoS requirements and the available network resources. However, the static resource allocation among priority queues in DiffServ networks leads to insufficient resource usage when a burst occurs in one priority queue while other queues starve. This study presents a User-Oriented QoS Streaming System to achieve perceptible satisfaction based on novel streaming and media differentiation policies in DiffServ networks. This study also proposes that the Dynamic QoS Queue Mapping (DQ2M) mechanism dynamically control queue scheduling by adaptively maximizing the utilization of queues and network resources according to the soft states of the DiffServ network. Evaluation results indicate that the proposed DQ2M algorithm can improve the fairness and efficiency of resource utilization for low-priority queues.  相似文献

Several wireless networking solutions have been developed to provide different types of services for various end user applications. Currently, wireless networking infrastructures are not suitable for multimedia applications each requiring a different QoS support with various traffic parameters. Due to the success of ATM technology in the wired network, WATM concept and related researches are of importance in the information technology area. Main objective of WATM, which promises seamless transmission of different traffics such as voice, data and video over wireless medium, is to implement high bit rate and QoS guaranteed data transfer, already well achieved by ATM technology over wired medium. To support QoS guaranteed data transfer over error-prone and low bandwidth wireless medium, an effective MAC protocol must be designed and utilized. In this paper, a new TDMA/FDD based MAC protocol, maintaining QoS requirements of real-time wireless multimedia applications, is proposed. The main contribution of this study is the new guarantee-based scheduling algorithm used in the proposed MAC to support required level of QoS guarantee for all multimedia traffic types in wireless medium. Computer modeling and simulation of the new approach providing CBR, VBR, ABR and UBR ATM services are realized using OPNET Modeler. Simulation results are also presented together with comparisons those of a WATM counterpart which uses PRMA/DA MAC protocol.  相似文献

提出了一种无线多媒体网络中基于测量网络状态的动态呼叫接纳控制算法.它区分了实时和非实时业务,在网络带宽资源不足时可通过降低非实时业务带宽确保实时业务呼叫连接的可靠性;还可根据当前网络状况调整预留带宽大小,使小区实时业务切换呼叫掉线率低于设定的门限值.大量仿真结果显示该算法具有低实时业务切换呼叫掉线率和与固定预留方案相当的带宽利用率,而只以略高的新呼叫阻塞率为代价,适合各种不同概率发生时实际应用的情况.  相似文献

With the emerging of video, voice over IP (VoIP) and other real-time multimedia services, more and more people pay attention to quality of service (QoS) issues in terms of the bandwidth, delay and jitter, etc. As one effective way of broadband wireless access, it has become imperative for wireless mesh networks (WMNs) to provide QoS guarantee. Existing works mostly modify QoS architecture dedicated for ad hoc or sensor networks, and focus on single radio and single channel case. Meanwhile, they study the QoS routing or MAC protocol from view of isolated layer. In this paper, we propose a novel cross-layer QoS-aware routing protocol on OLSR (CLQ-OLSR) to support real-time multimedia communication by efficiently exploiting multi-radio and multi-channel method. By constructing multi-layer virtual logical mapping over physical topology, we implement two sets of routing mechanisms, physical modified OLSR protocol (M-OLSR) and logical routing, to accommodate network traffic. The proposed CLQ-OLSR is based on a distributed bandwidth estimation scheme, implemented at each node for estimating the available bandwidth on each associated channel. By piggybacking the bandwidth information in HELLO and topology control (TC) messages, each node disseminates information of topology and available bandwidth to other nodes in the whole network in an efficient way. From topology and bandwidth information, the optimized path can be identified. Finally, we conduct extensive simulation to verify the performance of CLQ-OLSR in different scenarios on QualNet platform. The results demonstrate that our proposed CLQ-OLSR outperforms single radio OLSR, multi-radio OLSR and OLSR with differentiated services (DiffServ) in terms of network aggregate throughput, end-to-end packet delivery ratio, delay and delay jitter with reasonable message overheads and hardware costs. In particular, the network aggregate throughput for CLQ-OLSR can almost be improved by 300% compared with the single radio case.  相似文献

The issue of resource management in multi-domain Differentiated Services (DiffServ) networks has attracted a lot of attention from researchers who have proposed various provisioning, adaptive marking and admission control schemes. In this paper, we propose a Reinforcement Learning-based Adaptive Marking (RLAM) approach for providing assured end-to-end quality of service (QoS) in the form of end-to-end delay and throughput assurances, while minimizing packet transmission cost since ‘expensive’ Per Hop Behaviors like Expedited Forwarding (EF) are used only when necessary. The proposed scheme tries to satisfy per flow end-to-end QoS through control action,s which act on flow aggregates in the core of the network. Using an ns2 simulation of a multi-domain DiffServ network with multimedia traffic, the RLAM scheme is shown to be effective in significantly lowering packet transmission costs without sacrificing end-to-end QoS, when compared to the commonly used static marking scheme.  相似文献

针对数据中心间骨干网络中存在大量突发性强的小流而难以实时跟随流量变化对其进行带宽分配的问题,提出了基于Richards种群生长模型的数据中心骨干网络带宽分配策略(RBA)。该策略采用闭环反馈控制系统实时分配带宽,以基于Richards曲线设计链路的反馈控制因子作为此系统的反馈量,可对突发流量做出平滑响应,并根据时延敏感性的不同,采用不同的异速生长参数得到不同的流量速率增长曲线,以满足时延敏感流量的QoS需求。在Mininet平台上进行了实验仿真并与典型的带宽分配策略进行了对比,结果表明RBA不但可对突发流量提供较高的带宽分配效率,还确保了各流对带宽资源竞争的公平性。  相似文献

若假设网络带宽足够大,可以将网络传输的QoS保证表示为以网络延时保证为前提,以丢包率为判决条件.本文分析网络现有调度算法对网络业务延时的影响,选择节点状态延时的概率函数(PMF)表示网络节点状态的统计信息.并利用其PMF的正态形式作为网络节点状态信息,分析调度算法的延时性能.通过仿真验证,当节点延时的PMF分布近似正态,即如果网络业务经过整形后以近似正态延时概率到达网络节点,业务在节点经过调度算法输出时其PMF仍近似保持正态分布形式.仿真分析了这种情况下各调度算法的延时表现,得到EDF算法在这种情况下延时随节点级数增加的特性最好.  相似文献

Advances in networks during the past decades have fostered the deployment of a variety of Internet applications. Many of these applications have a range of Quality-of-Service (QoS) requirements, some involving network throughput, delay, and reliability. Consequently, there is growing need for network services that can differentiate applications having QoS requirements from those without and to be able to further classify applications with QoS requirements into different classes at the IP-network level. The Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) has proposed Differentiated Services (DiffServ) to provide QoS in IP-based networks. The goal of DiffServ is to define configurable types of packet forwarding that can provide service differentiation for large aggregates of network traffic. We report on our investigation of Relative Proportional Differentiated Services to implement DiffServ in IP-based networks and one that supports the provisioning and management of QoS for Internet Applications. The main contributions of the paper are the introduction of a novel traffic conditioning architecture for the marker and shaper/policer which relies on feedback from a metering component, and the provision for a QoS manager to enable a network administrator or a management application to dynamically adjust control parameters.  相似文献
