Abstract: Logistics service providers are professionals who serve clients such as manufacturers, raw material suppliers, distributors, retailers and shippers within the supply chain. Traditionally, the formulation of logistics strategies to execute various logistics services has been based solely on experience. In this paper, an intelligent case-based logistics strategy system (CLSS) is designed to help logistics service providers to develop strategies under various customers' demands. The proposed system, which is suitable for use in warehouse operations in the Hong Kong/Pearl River Delta region, enhances the effectiveness of logistics strategies formulations by integrating case-based reasoning technology seamlessly with various data management software such as a data warehouse, on-line analytical processing and a multidimensional database management system. Through applying CLSS in Eastern Worldwide Company, the resource utilization is maximized while work efficiency is greatly enhanced. Modern production and logistics systems, supply chains, and Industry 4.0 networks are challenged by increased uncertainty and risks, multiple feedback cycles, and dynamics. Control theory is an interesting research avenue which contributes to further insights concerning the management of the given challenges in operations and supply chain management. In this paper, the applicability of control theory to engineering and management problems in supply chain operations is investigated. Our analysis bridges the fundamentals of control and systems theory to supply chain and operations management. This study extends our previous survey in the Annual Reviews in Control (Ivanov et al. 2012) by including new literature published in 2012–2018, identifying two new directions of control theory applications (i.e., ripple effect analysis in the supply chains and scheduling in Industry 4.0) and analysis towards the digital technology use in control theoretic models. It describes important issues and perspectives that delineate dynamics in supply chains, operations, and Industry 4.0 networks and identifies and systemizes different streams in the application of control theory to operations and supply chain management and engineering in the period from 1960–2018. It updates the existing applications and classifications, performs a critical analysis, and discusses further research avenues. Further development of interdisciplinary approaches to supply chain optimization is argued. An extended cooperation between control engineers and supply chain experts may have the potential to introduce more realism to dynamic planning and models, and improve performance in production and logistics systems, supply chains, and Industry 4.0 networks. Finally, we analyze the trends towards the intellectualization of control and its development towards supply chain control analytics.  相似文献

PurposeThis paper proposes a real-time knowledge support framework for the development of an RFID-multi-agent based process knowledge-based system which has the ability to solve dynamic logistics process management problems.Design/methodology/approachThe proposed system is developed with “real-time process management” capability which automatically identifies current process status, performs the process logic checking/reasoning, and, provides process knowledge support to staff members when they are tackling logistics activity problems. The unique feature of this on-line knowledge-based system, which enables it to enhance the performance of logistics organizations, is a process management engine incorporating radio-frequency identification (RFID) and multi-agent (MA) technologies.FindingsThe capability of the proposed system is demonstrated through an application case study in Eastern Worldwide Company Limited. Performance measurement can only help to identify the problems existing in the current supply chain, while it is helpless in exploring the root causes of these problems and thus choosing corresponding actions to improve supply chain performance. The conflict between the top-down strategy decomposition and the bottom-up implementation process is serious. Therefore, in order to overcome the above issues, it is very necessary to link strategic objectives to operations, which could help managers, especially those operating at a strategic level, to know more operational mechanism of supply chains. In this study, an integrated approach which employs analytic hierarchy process (AHP) and technique for order preference by similarity to ideal solution (TOPSIS) together is proposed for the linking strategic objectives to operations. Supply chain operations reference model is used to model the linkage of the strategic objectives and operational metrics in a hierarchical way. The AHP is used to analyze this metric hierarchy and determine weights of the metrics, and TOPSIS method is used to make a normalization of metric values having different units, so a comparison will be available. Proposed approach is applied to a problem of decision making process in a manufacturing company. Company managers found the application and results satisfactory and implementable in their decisions.  相似文献

The phenomenon of business-to-business (B2B) e-marketplaces has triggered a lot of interest among researchers in recent years. Most of these studies focus on price competition or cost reduction. Few studies, however, have examined the impact of e-marketplaces on the participants’ supply chain operations, including inventory management and order fulfillment. This study aims to fill such a gap. Employing agent-based simulations, we find that supply network agents tend to keep more inventories and backlog/lose fewer orders in the e-marketplace than in traditional supply chains. And this effect is profounder for the upstream agents, i.e., distributors and manufacturers than for downstream agents, i.e., retailers. Managerial implications of these findings are discussed.  相似文献

Sometimes in travel planning, finding the best route to the road transportation network by considering the environmental conditions that are affecting the actual time travel of the travellers are vital especially in handling the logistic operations in supply chain management (SCM). Furthermore, the policy strategy is needed in order to influence the managers or drivers to find the optimum and the most effective route for a trip plan in supporting the logistic operations of SCM. In this paper we analyze the effectiveness of the coordination model of the environmental conditions that are affecting for the travelling time based on multi-agent system for a road transportation network for supply chain management. A number of experimental cases have been used to evaluate the proposed approach transportation network problems in some Malaysian cities. Finally, experimental results affirmed that the proposed approach is practical and efficient.  相似文献
