Mobile cloud computing is a dynamic, virtually scalable and network based computing environment where mobile device acts as a thin client and applications run on remote cloud servers. Mobile cloud computing resources required by different users depend on their respective personalized applications. Therefore, efficient resource provisioning in mobile clouds is an important aspect that needs special attention in order to make the mobile cloud computing a highly optimized entity. This paper proposes an adaptive model for efficient resource provisioning in mobile clouds by predicting and storing resource usages in a two dimensional matrix termed as resource provisioning matrix. These resource provisioning matrices are further used by an independent authority to predict future required resources using artificial neural network. Independent authority also checks and verifies resource usage bill computed by cloud service provider using resource provisioning matrices. It provides cost computation reliability for mobile customers in mobile cloud environment. Proposed model is implemented on Hadoop using three different applications. Results indicate that proposed model provides better mobile cloud resources utilization as well as maintains quality of service for mobile customer. Proposed model increases battery life of mobile device and decreases data usage cost for mobile customer.  相似文献

Mobile web news services, which served by mobile service operators collecting news articles from diverse news contents providers, provide articles sorted by category or on the basis of attributes, such as the time at which they were posted. The mobile web should provide easy access to the categories or news contents preferred by users because user interface of wireless devices, particularly cell phones is limited for browsing between contents.This paper presents a mobile web news recommendation system (MONERS) that incorporates news article attributes and user preferences with regard to categories and news articles. User preference of news articles are estimated by aggregating news article importance and recency, user preference change, and user segment’s preference on news categories and articles. Performance of MONERS was tested in an actual mobile web environment; news organized by category had more page hits, while recommended news had a higher overall article read ratio.  相似文献

Context-aware middleware for resource management in the wireless Internet   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
The provisioning of Web services over the wireless Internet introduces novel challenging issues for service design and implementation: from user/terminal mobility during service execution, to wide heterogeneity of portable access devices and unpredictable modifications in accessible resources. In this scenario, there are frequent provision-time changes in the context, defined as the logical set of accessible resources depending on client location, access terminal capabilities, and system/service management policies. The development of context-dependent services requires novel middlewares with full context visibility. We propose a middleware for context-aware resource management, called CARMEN, capable of supporting the automatic reconfiguration of wireless Internet services in response to context changes without any intervention on the service logic. CARMEN determines the context on the basis of metadata, which include declarative management policies and profiles for user preferences, terminal capabilities, and resource characteristics. In addition, CARMEN exploits the mobile agent technology to implement mobile middleware components that follow the provision-time movement of clients to support locally their customized service access. The proposed middleware shows how metadata and mobile agents can favor component reusability and automatic service reconfiguration, by reducing the development/ deployment complexity.  相似文献

With the rapid development of mobile Internet technologies and various new service services such as virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR), users’ demand for network quality of service (QoS) is getting higher and higher. To solve the problems of high load and low latency in-network services, this paper proposes a data caching strategy based on a multi-access mobile edge computing environment. Based on the MEC collaborative caching framework, an SDN controller is introduced into the MEC collaborative caching framework, a joint cache optimization mechanism based on data caching and computational migration is constructed, and the user-perceived time-lengthening problem in the data caching strategy is solved by a joint optimization algorithm based on an improved heuristic genetic algorithm and simulated annealing. Meanwhile, this paper proposes a multi-base station collaboration-based service optimization strategy to solve the problem of collaboration of computation and storage resources due to multiple mobile terminals and multiple smart base stations. For the problem that the application service demand in MEC server changes due to time, space, requests and other privacy, an application service optimization algorithm based on the Markov chain of service popularity is constructed, and a deep deterministic strategy (DDP) based on deep reinforcement learning is also used to minimize the average delay of computation tasks in the cluster while ensuring the energy consumption of MEC server, which improves the accuracy of application service cache updates in the system as well as reducing the complexity of service updates. The experimental results show that the proposed data caching algorithm weighs the cache space of user devices, the average transfer latency of acquiring data resources is effectively reduced, and the proposed service optimization algorithm can improve the quality of user experience.  相似文献

异构网络的接入策略与网络资源管理效率紧密相关;同时,网络复杂性与网络资源竞争性直接影响到用户服务质量。针对异构网络接入控制存在的切换掉话率和呼叫阻塞率高、资源利用率低等问题,提出了基于马尔科夫链的联合呼叫接入控制算法。接入控制算法为切换呼叫业务、实时业务动态地预留了一定的带宽资源,根据不同业务设置带宽降级因子来决定是否释放带宽;同时,根据用户偏好和不同业务的QoS要求,构建了呼叫接入控制效用函数,利用马尔科夫链进行了建模分析。仿真表明,算法提高了网络资源利用率,降低了系统复杂度,满足了各类业务的QoS要求。  相似文献

Internet protocol television (IPTV) generically designates a real-time distribution service for multimedia contents over an IP network, such as the Internet. There are many advantages of IPTV deployment over current digital or air broadcast TV signals: integration, the use of the switched internet protocol (IP), the possibility to build home networks that can be used to share multimedia contents over different devices, the easy implementation of video on demand services and the usage of better compression and encryption standards. In order to implement this kind of service, it is extremely useful to have a system that can efficiently classify multimedia contents and users and distribute them in a customized way. This paper proposes a novel IPTV service for the distribution of personalized multimedia contents over IP networks based on the concept of content-zapping, in contrast to traditional channel-zapping: each client system receives a multimedia streaming that is automatically composed by the system based on the user preferences and the user will only interact with the system by requesting a content change or marking a content as favorite. The paper will describe the general functionality of the service and will present the detailed architecture of the IPTV server, the key component of the service infrastructure. The server must maintain a list of media contents residing in other systems and must keep a dynamic classification of the multimedia contents that are stored in its database. This classification is built and gradually refined based on the interactions between clients and multimedia contents. Special attention is given in the paper to the classification model, describing the general ideas that are used to automatically suggest multimedia contents to a specific user (that is characterized by his complete profile). A specific content may be suggested to the user based on the knowledge of the user profile and/or based on specific and dynamic information, such as the user position, the local temperature, date and time. The availability of this information obviously depends on the specific user device that is being used. The proposed system allows any client device to connect, allowing a high level of interoperability. It is also possible to use all the device capabilities and sensors, like Global Positioning System (GPS), accelerometers, light sensors, noise sensors, etc., thus creating a context environment that helps classify each user profile. These context-awareness mechanisms applied to mobile devices with wireless network (802.11b/g/n, WiMAX, GSM, UMTS, etc.) capabilities allow a better user experience and more accurate multimedia suggestions, due to the deep knowledge about the user device, network and environment. The system also allows the users to suggest contents to other users in the same “group of friends”. Several performance tests were already conducted and the results obtained show that the proposed system is very stable and fast, even for high increases on the number of users.  相似文献

Wireless mobile services are computing applications that run on handheld wireless devices. Such applications must work within the daunting constraints of the devices, which include memory, processing power, input capabilities, and size of display. It is therefore important that mobile services take into account the user’s context, optimize resource usage, and minimize input effort imposed on the user. In this paper, we present the design and implementation of a smart agent-enabled system for personalizing wireless mobile services and advertisements for Java 2 Micro Edition (J2ME) or Java ME, and Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) enabled devices. We use software agents for context filtering because such autonomous software entities have characteristics that can benefit mobile devices and the wireless environment, and the Composite Capability/Preference Profiles (CC/PP) standard for defining profiles for user preferences and device capabilities. The system incorporates the use of artificial neural networks to adaptively and iteratively learn to select the best available service based on contextual information. The system is evaluated using practical operating scenarios, as well as empirical data and results show an 87% success rate in the selection of the best available service.  相似文献

This paper presents a model for building context-based systems in pervasive computing environments from high level specifications. A pervasive computing environment is viewed as a collaboration space consisting of mobile users, system services, and sensors and resources embedded in the physical environment. The approach presented here is developed for building collaborative activities in which users and environment services cooperate towards some shared objectives and tasks. The specification model allows expression of policies related to context-based discovery and secure access of resources, and role-based interactions among users and environmental services. Using several examples we illustrate the capabilities of our specification model for expressing various kinds of context-based requirements for resource access and user interactions.  相似文献

在非结构化P2P网络中,如何对用户所需资源进行快速、准确定位是当前研究的热点问题,也是P2P应用领域面临的核心问题之一.相关的非结构化P2P资源定位算法在查准率、查全率和查询成本上难以同时被优化,这会造成严重的网络带宽负担以及巨大的索引维护开销.为此,提出一种面向用户需求的非结构化P2P资源定位策略(user requirements resource location strategy,简称U2RLS).该策略的创新点是:在原有非结构化P2P网络资源定位泛洪算法的基础上,融入用户需求、用户偏好、用户兴趣度等因素,首先进行用户资源子网划分;采用带有用户需求信息的泛洪和查询索引机制,对用户所需资源进行精确定位.该策略有效避免了因海量信息引起的网络风暴、信息重叠和资源搜索偏覆盖等问题,从而解决了查询节点盲目使用中继节点的现象.实验结果表明:面向用户需求的非结构化P2P资源定位策略U2RLS以其高搜索成功率、有限网络资源消耗和短查询时间响应等优势,能够显著地提高用户资源定位效率.  相似文献

Nowadays, Internet of things has become as an inevitable aspect of humans’ IT-based life. A huge number of geo-distributed IoT enabled devices such as smart phones, smart cameras, health care systems, vehicles, etc. are connected to the Internet and manage users’ applications. The IoT applications are generally time sensitive, so that giving them up to Cloud and receiving the response may violate their required deadline, due to distance between user device and centralized Cloud data center and consequently increasing network latency. Fog environment, as an intermediate layer between Cloud and IoT devices, brings a smaller scales of Cloud capabilities closer to user location. Processing real time applications in Fog layer helps more deadlines to be met. Although Fog computing enhances quality of service parameters, limited resources and power of Fog nodes is a challenge in processing applications. Furthermore, the network latency is still an issue for communications between applications’ services and between user device and Fog node, which seriously threatens deadline condition. Regarding to mentioned points, this paper proposes a 3-partite deadline-aware applications’ services placement optimization model in Fog environment which optimizes total power consumption, total resources wastage, and total network latency, simultaneously. The proposed model prioritizes applications in 3 levels based on their associated deadline, and then the model is solved using a parallel model of first fit decreasing and genetic algorithm combination. Simulations results indicates the superiority of proposed approach against counterpart algorithms in terms of reducing power consumption, resource wastage, network latency, and service rejection rate.  相似文献

Compared to newspaper columnists and broadcast media commentators, bloggers do not have organizations actively promoting their content to users; instead, they rely on word-of-mouth or casual visits by web surfers. We believe the WAP Push service feature of mobile phones can help bridge the gap between internet and mobile services, and expand the number of potential blog readers. Since mobile phone screen size is very limited, content providers must be familiar with individual user preferences in order to recommend content that matches narrowly defined personal interests. To help identify popular blog topics, we have created (a) an information retrieval process that clusters blogs into groups based on keyword analyses, and (b) a mobile content recommender system (M-CRS) for calculating user preferences for new blog documents. Here we describe results from a case study involving 20,000 mobile phone users in which we examined the effects of personalized content recommendations. Browsing habits and user histories were recorded and analyzed to determine individual preferences for making content recommendations via the WAP Push feature. The evaluation results of our recommender system indicate significant increases in both blog-related push service click rates and user time spent reading personalized web pages. The process used in this study supports accurate recommendations of personalized mobile content according to user interests. This approach can be applied to other embedded systems with device limitations, since document subject lines are elaborated and more attractive to intended users.  相似文献

With recent advances in computing and communication technologies enabling mobile devices more powerful, the scope of Grid computing has been broadened to include mobile and pervasive devices. Energy has become a critical resource in such devices. So, battery energy limitation is the main challenge towards enabling persistent mobile grid computing. In this paper, we address the problem of energy constrained scheduling scheme for the grid environment. There is a limited energy budget for grid applications. The paper investigates both energy minimization for mobile devices and grid utility optimization problem. We formalize energy aware scheduling using nonlinear optimization theory under constraints of energy budget and deadline. The paper also proposes distributed pricing based algorithm that is used to tradeoff energy and deadline to achieve a system wide optimization based on the preference of the grid user. The simulations reveal that the proposed energy constrained scheduling algorithms can obtain better performance than the previous approach that considers both energy consumption and deadline.  相似文献

In mobile devices, multiple applications contend for limited resources in the underlying embedded system framework. Application resource requirements in mobile systems vary by computation needs, energy consumption and user interaction frequency. Quality of service (QoS) is the predominant metric of choice to manage resources among contending applications. Resource allocation policies to support static QoS for applications do not reflect the changing demands of the user in contemporary network on chip (NoC) based embedded architectures. User satisfaction with the user interactions and user interface design ought to be the primary design driver. Some recent research has integrated a saturating, non-linear user satisfaction function in the application thread scheduler. The application and operating system level user satisfaction research assumes that the throughput of inter-thread edges is limited only by the computational constraints of the nodes. With NoC, however, NoC resource allocation policies play an important role in determining the inter-thread communication flow’s throughput and the resulting application level user satisfaction. In this paper, we filter down the user satisfaction from an application layer attribute to a router level attribute to improve the resource and energy utilization for routing in order to leverage the user satisfaction at the application and system level. We demonstrate that this technique improves the user satisfaction of audio (MP3) application by 10% while maintaining the user satisfaction of video (MPEG-2) application. Experiments also show that a fixed energy source can be extended for an average of 18% of the time using the NoC user satisfaction based energy optimization proposed in this research.  相似文献

Ad hoc sharing of resources by offering remote services through an appropriate infrastructure enables new applications for mobile devices. However, the willingness of device owners to contribute resources to such applications remains low as long as they cannot control the amount of energy spent in sharing. In this paper, we present a framework for energy-aware resource sharing among mobile devices of various kinds that comprises (1) energy-aware strategies for selecting remote service providers and (2) a generic energy estimator for forecasting and accounting the energy consumption of a remote service call. To illustrate the benefit of (1), we show by simulation that the battery lifetime of devices running the framework can be extended up to 40% by service selection strategies that take into account the energy cost of a requested service compared to energy-unaware (random) service selection. For providing the energy-related input for service selection, we present (2) a generic estimator that can be customized easily for different hardware-platforms by solving a linear equation system with coefficients derived from benchmark measurements. We present a prototype-based case study for three different platforms, the Nokia N810, the HTC Touch Cruise and the Samsung Galaxy S showing that for all of them the estimation error is below 10% for 90% of the service calls. Furthermore, measurements conducted with a prototype implementation of the resource sharing framework show that battery lifetime can in fact be extended by energy-aware service selection strategies.  相似文献

Grid computing is mainly helpful for executing high-performance computing applications. However, conventional grid resources sometimes fail to offer a dynamic application execution environment and this increases the rate at which the job requests of users are rejected. Integrating emerging virtualization technologies in grid and cloud computing facilitates the provision of dynamic virtual resources in the required execution environment. Resource brokers play a significant role in managing grid and cloud resources as well as identifying potential resources that satisfy users’ application requests. This research paper proposes a semantic-enabled CARE Resource Broker (SeCRB) that provides a common framework to describe grid and cloud resources, and to discover them in an intelligent manner by considering software, hardware and quality of service (QoS) requirements. The proposed semantic resource discovery mechanism classifies the resources into three categories viz., exact, high-similarity subsume and high-similarity plug-in regions. To achieve the necessary user QoS requirements, we have included a service level agreement (SLA) negotiation mechanism that pairs users’ QoS requirements with matching resources to guarantee the execution of applications, and to achieve the desired QoS of users. Finally, we have implemented the QoS-based resource scheduling mechanism that selects the resources from the SLA negotiation accepted list in an optimal manner. The proposed work is simulated and evaluated by submitting real-world bio-informatics and image processing application for various test cases. The result of the experiment shows that for jobs submitted to the resource broker, job rejection rate is reduced while job success and scheduling rates are increased, thus making the resource management system more efficient.  相似文献

The increasing user mobility demands placed upon IT services necessitates an environment that enables users to access optimal services at any time and in any place. This study presents research conducted to develop a system that is capable of analyzing user IT service patterns and tendencies and provides the necessary service resources by sharing each user’s context information. First, each user’s context information is gathered to provide the multi-agent software training data necessary to describe user operations in a hybrid peer-to-peer (P2P) structured communication environment. Next, the data collected about each user’s mobile device is analyzed through a Bayesian based neural network system to identify the user’s tendency and extract essential service information. This information provides a communication configuration allowing the user access to the best communication service between the user’s mobile device and the local server at any time and in any place, thereby enhancing the ubiquitous computing environment.  相似文献

In recent years, as IT technology has progressed, mobile devices have been created that enable various manual tasks to be automated and portable. A variety of mobile devices has computing, storage, and Internet capabilities and can handle many tasks. When miniaturized mobile devices perform tasks that require a large amount of computing resources due to limited computing and storage, there is a delay in operation and a non-operation state. Therefore, collaborative-based mobile cloud infrastructure (MCI) research is being conducted to provide computing services composed of mobile devices. Computation off-loading studies have been conducted for MCI’s high-performance computing, but it is difficult to build various mobile infrastructures and verify algorithm performance. In addition, performance verification is performed in a predetermined MCI environment or is carried out through small-scale test equipment. This causes waste of time, cost, and manpower for constructing the environment. Various studies have been conducted for this purpose, but there is a difficulty in performance verification and analysis since only the results are displayed or outputted in text form. In this paper, we propose a mobile cloud infrastructure simulator (MCIS) for computing off-loading, resource management, mobile deployment, and mobile information for MCI. MCIS enables user tasks, resource allocation methods, and various mobile device performance settings. In addition, visualization of the operating state makes it easy to analyze the performance of the user, and it is possible to grasp the problems that occur during operation.

The Case for VM-Based Cloudlets in Mobile Computing   总被引:10,自引:0,他引:10  
Mobile computing continuously evolve through the sustained effort of many researchers. It seamlessly augments users' cognitive abilities via compute-intensive capabilities such as speech recognition, natural language processing, etc. By thus empowering mobile users, we could transform many areas of human activity. This article discusses the technical obstacles to these transformations and proposes a new architecture for overcoming them. In this architecture, a mobile user exploits virtual machine (VM) technology to rapidly instantiate customized service software on a nearby cloudlet and then uses that service over a wireless LAN; the mobile device typically functions as a thin client with respect to the service. A cloudlet is a trusted, resource-rich computer or cluster of computers that's well-connected to the Internet and available for use by nearby mobile devices. Our strategy of leveraging transiently customized proximate infrastructure as a mobile device moves with its user through the physical world is called cloudlet-based, resource-rich, mobile computing. Crisp interactive response, which is essential for seamless augmentation of human cognition, is easily achieved in this architecture because of the cloudlet's physical proximity and one-hop network latency. Using a cloudlet also simplifies the challenge of meeting the peak bandwidth demand of multiple users interactively generating and receiving media such as high-definition video and high-resolution images. Rapid customization of infrastructure for diverse applications emerges as a critical requirement, and our results from a proof-of-concept prototype suggest that VM technology can indeed help meet this requirement.  相似文献
