This paper describes a unified variational theory for design sensitivity analysis of nonlinear dynamic response of structural and mechanical systems for shape, nonshape, material and mechanical properties selection, as well as control problems. The concept of an adjoint system, the principle of virtual work and a Lagrangian-Eulerian formulation to describe the deformations and the design variations are used to develop a unified view point. A general formula for design sensitivity analysis is derived and interpreted for usual performance functionals. Analytical examples are utilized to demonstrate the use of the theory and give insights for application to more complex problems that must be treated numerically.Derivatives The comma notation for partial derivatives is used, i.e. G,u = G/u. An upper dot represents material time derivative, i.e. ü = 2u/t2. A prime implies derivative with respect to the time measured in the reference time-domain, i.e. u = du/d.  相似文献

The temporal property to-always has been proposed for specifying progress properties of concurrent programs. Although the to-always properties are a subset of the leads-to properties for a given program, to-always has more convenient proof rules and in some cases more accurately describes the desired system behavior. In this paper, we give a predicate transformerwta, derive some of its properties, and use it to define to-always. Proof rules for to-always are derived from the properties ofwta. We conclude by briefly describing two application areas, nondeterministic data flow networks and self-stabilizing systems where to-always properties are useful.  相似文献

We propose a direct method for solving the evolution of plane curves satisfying the geometric equation v=(x,k,) where v is the normal velocity, k and are the curvature and tangential angle of a plane curve R2 at a point x. We derive and analyze the governing system of partial differential equations for the curvature, tangential angle, local length and position vector of an evolving family of plane curves. The governing equations include a nontrivial tangential velocity functional yielding uniform redistribution of grid points along the evolving family of curves preventing thus numerically computed solutions from forming various instabilities. We also propose a full space-time discretization of the governing system of equations and study its experimental order of convergence. Several computational examples of evolution of plane curves driven by curvature and external force as well as the geodesic curvatures driven evolution of curves on various complex surfaces are presented in this paper.  相似文献

We develop a theory of communication within branching programs that provides exponential lower bounds on the size of branching programs that are bounded alternating. Our theory is based on the algebraic concept of -branching programs, : , a semiring homomorphism, that generalizes ordinary branching programs, -branching programs [M2] andMOD p-branching programs [DKMW].Due to certain exponential lower and polynomial upper bounds on the size of bounded alternating -branching programs we are able to separate the corresponding complexity classesN ba ,co-N ba ba , andMOD p - ba ,p prime, from each other, and from that classes corresponding to oblivious linear length-bounded branching programs investigated in the past.  相似文献

We introduce a calculus which is a direct extension of both the and the calculi. We give a simple type system for it, that encompasses both Curry's type inference for the -calculus, and Milner's sorting for the -calculus as particular cases of typing. We observe that the various continuation passing style transformations for -terms, written in our calculus, actually correspond to encodings already given by Milner and others for evaluation strategies of -terms into the -calculus. Furthermore, the associated sortings correspond to well-known double negation translations on types. Finally we provide an adequate CPS transform from our calculus to the -calculus. This shows that the latter may be regarded as an assembly language, while our calculus seems to provide a better programming notation for higher-order concurrency. We conclude by discussing some alternative design decisions.  相似文献

This paper presents aut, a modern Automath checker. It is a straightforward re-implementation of the Zandleven Automath checker from the seventies. It was implemented about five years ago, in the programming language C. It accepts both the AUT-68 and AUT-QE dialects of Automath. This program was written to restore a damaged version of Jutting's translation of Landau's Grundlagen. Some notable features: It is fast. On a 1 GHz machine it will check the full Jutting formalization (736 K of nonwhitespace Automath source) in 0.6 seconds. Its implementation of -terms does not use named variables or de Bruijn indices (the two common approaches) but instead uses a graph representation. In this representation variables are represented by pointers to a binder. The program can compile an Automath text into one big Automath single line-style -term. It outputs such a term using de Bruijn indices. (These -terms cannot be checked by modern systems like Coq or Agda, because the -typed -calculi of de Bruijn are different from the -typed -calculi of modern type theory.)The source of aut is freely available on the Web at the address .  相似文献

Given (1) Wittgensteins externalist analysis of the distinction between following a rule and behaving in accordance with a rule, (2) prima facie connections between rule-following and psychological capacities, and (3) pragmatic issues about training, it follows that most, even all, future artificially intelligent computers and robots will not use language, possess concepts, or reason. This argument suggests that AIs traditional aim of building machines with minds, exemplified in current work on cognitive robotics, is in need of substantial revision.  相似文献

Conditions are presented under which the maximum of the Kolmogorov complexity (algorithmic entropy) K(1... N ) is attained, given the cost f( i ) of a message 1... N . Various extremal relations between the message cost and the Kolmogorov complexity are also considered; in particular, the minimization problem for the function f( i ) – K(1... N ) is studied. We investigate three-dimensional visibility problems for scenes that consist ofn non-intersecting spheres. The viewing point moves on a flightpath that is part of a circle at infinity given by a planeP and a range of angles {(t)¦t[01]} [02]. At timet, the lines of sight are parallel to the ray inP, which starts in the origin ofP and represents the angle(t) (orthographic views of the scene). We give an algorithm that computes the visibility graph at the start of the flight, all time parameters at which the topology of the scene changes, and the corresponding topology changes. In this paper, we propose a statistical method to automaticallyextract collocations from Korean POS-tagged corpus. Since a large portion of language is represented by collocation patterns, the collocational knowledge provides a valuable resource for NLP applications. One difficulty of collocation extraction is that Korean has a partially free word order, which also appears in collocations. In this work, we exploit four statistics, frequency,randomness, convergence, and correlation' in order to take into account the flexible word order of Korean collocations. We separate meaningful bigrams using an evaluation function based on the four statistics and extend the bigrams to n-gram collocations using a fuzzy relation. Experiments show that this method works well for Korean collocations.  相似文献

In this paper, we study the complexity of computing better solutions to optimization problems given other solutions. We use a model of computation suitable for this purpose, the counterexample computation model. We first prove that, if PH P 3 , polynomial time transducers cannot compute optimal solutions for many problems, even givenn 1– non-trivial solutions, for any >0. These results are then used to establish sharp lower bounds for several problems in the counterexample model. We extend the model by defining probabilistic counterexample computations and show that our results hold even in the presence of randomness.  相似文献

Experiment 1 explored the impact of physically touching a virtual object on how realistic the virtual environment (VE) seemed to the user. Subjects in a no touch group picked up a 3D virtual image of a kitchen plate in a VE, using a traditional 3D wand. See and touch subjects physically picked up a virtual plate possessing solidity and weight, using a technique called tactile augmentation. Afterwards, subjects made predictions about the properties of other virtual objects they saw but did not interact with in the VE. See and touch subjects predicted these objects would be more solid, heavier, and more likely to obey gravity than the no touch group. In Experiment 2 (a pilot study), subjects physically bit a chocolate bar in one condition, and imagined biting a chocolate bar in another condition. Subjects rated the event more fun and realistic when allowed to physically bite the chocolate bar. Results of the two experiments converge with a growing literature showing the value of adding physical qualities to virtual objects. This study is the first to empirically demonstrate the effectiveness of tactile augmentation as a simple, safe, inexpensive technique with large freedom of motion for adding physical texture, force feedback cues, smell and taste to virtual objects. In a model for a measure of computational complexity, , for a partial recursive functiont, letR t denote all partial recursive functions having the same domain ast and computable within timet. Let = {R t |t is recursive} and let = { |i is actually the running time function of a computation}. and are partially ordered under set-theoretic inclusion. These partial orderings have been extensively investigated by Borodin, Constable and Hopcroft in [3]. In this paper we present a simple uniform proof of some of their results. For example, we give a procedure for easily calculating a model of computational complexity for which is not dense while is dense. In our opinion, our technique is so transparent that it indicates that certain questions of density are not intrinsically interesting for general abstract measures of computational complexity, . Over the years, AI has undergone a transformation from its original aim of producing an intelligent machine to that of producing pragmatic solutions of problems of the market place. In doing so, AI has made a significant contribution to the debate on whether the computer is an instrument or an interlocutor. This paper discusses issues of problem solving and creativity underlying this transformation, and attempts to clarify the distinction between theresolutive intelligence andproblematic intelligence. It points out that the advance of intelligent technology, with its failure to make a clear distinction betweenresolutive andcreative intelligence, could contribute to the further cultural marginalisation of human activities not connected with production. A further danger is that AI products may suffer a further loss of social reputation and prestige for those activities for which it is not possible to build artificial devices.  相似文献

We investigate strategies for the numerical solution of the initial value problem with initial conditions where 0<1<2<<. Here y ( j ) denotes the derivative of order j >0 (not necessarily j ) in the sense of Caputo. The methods are based on numerical integration techniques applied to an equivalent nonlinear and weakly singular Volterra integral equation. The classical approach leads to an algorithm with very high arithmetic complexity. Therefore we derive an alternative that leads to lower complexity without sacrificing too much precision.
