This paper proposes a simple method that equips UMTS-based telecom companies with a mechanism to prove the records on mobile users’ phone bills. In the history of mobile phone communication, we have seen countless unsettled disputes where the mobile user disagrees with the telecom company either on the calling time or on the duration, or even on whether or not a call was actually made. In this paper, a provable billing protocol will be presented that can effectively solve disagreements between the two parties. Equipped with a non-repudiation function, the proposed protocol enables the service provider to hold on to the solid proofs as to exactly when and to which number a mobile phone user made a call so that the mobile user cannot deny; at the same time, the mobile user also gets to have his/her own share of proofs as to when and how the mobile services were accessed, so that the bill can be double checked to make sure nothing goes wrong. And, to make it even better, this new protocol is perfectly compatible with the standard UMTS protocol and is therefore readily applicable to the current mobile phone communication environments.  相似文献

The traditional view of mobile telecommunications is to allow a customer to communicate away from his base. However, the vision for the end of the century is to make the mobile communication system the first choice for telecommunications. By the year 2000 there will be a large number of mobile systems operating in Europe, from the current analogue cellular systems to digital GSM cellular systems and potentially the Universal Mobile Telecommunication System (UMTS). The challenge is to ensure that customers, be they fixed or mobile, are provided with acceptable speech quality, no matter what system they are using and what it is interconnecting to. The paper examines the speech transmission parameters which effect the perceived quality and shows how they are apportioned within the mobile systems. A major challenge for any telecommunications company is how to improve time to market for new services and at the same time reduce costs and improve the customer experience. This paper shows how BT has analysed this problem and has set about addressing it. The result of the analysis was to propose the concept of reusable capabilities — a concept widely used in the manufacturing industry and now applied to complex telecommunications services to meet these challenging goals. BT carried out a functional decomposition of each service into elemental capabilities and to see if common elements could be found between each service. The results were somewhat surprising, with a very high correlation between the elemental service building blocks BT defined and the new services. BT is now launching services which use the first deployment of common capabilities laying the foundations for the rapid introduction of new services. The capability approach will gain increasing traction as the number of developed capabilities increases, which will lead to greater service flexibility, cost reduction, improved time to market and further improved customer experience.  相似文献

Surely it must be possible to bring products to market faster and do it cheaper? These two requirements have for many years challenged the entire telecommunications industry. Complexity is a characteristic of today’s communications environments. Making this complexity manageable is the key to enabling these requirements to be met, but how? Within the intelligent network’s area it has been possible to break down the needs of the customer into a series of blocks that can be designed and deployed in flexible arrangements. To design and run these blocks two environments are used, the service assembly environment (SAE) and the service execution environment. This paper will look at the former to examine what steps need to be taken to apply these principles to the full range of communications products that a large telecommunications company like BT offer. This paper defines the SAE as including both the design phase of a product as well as its deployment into the portfolio and systems.  相似文献

As the usage of cellular phones increases wireless subscribers demand many advanced networking capabilities, especially multimedia applications with very high Quality of Service (QoS) requirements. The limited availability of radio spectrum enforces Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) to have efficient resource management strategies. The goal is to offer services that satisfy the QoS requirements of individual users while achieving an efficient utilization of network resources. This paper considers a resource allocation strategy for cellular networks to be applied during call initiation, handoff and allocation of mobile base stations. Long-term customer retention becomes a major challenge for MNOs due to severe competition in the telecommunications industry. Therefore the MNOs need to understand the customer demographics as well as the customer spending behavior in telecommunications market. Our proposed model combines the information about the customer demographics and usage behavior once the call is initiated. Our hypothesis is that using customer information together with call information yields an efficient customer-oriented resource management strategy. We have performed simulations with different real-life scenarios. Our results show that our proposed model performs better in terms of revenue increase when compared to the First-Come First-Serve based approach.  相似文献
