A switched-beam antenna with a low sidelobe level based on a modified n/spl times/n Butler feeding network is proposed. This novel design only requires addition of 180/spl deg/ power dividers in the Butler matrix part. A four-beam prototype is constructed. Measurement indicates that the sidelobe level is significantly reduced.  相似文献

A multilayer spatial angular filter with airgap tuners to suppress the grating lobes of a 4/spl times/1 array antenna is proposed. By using the airgap tuner, a commercial standard substrate can be chosen for the filter, to achieve its resonance condition, instead of /spl lambda//sub g//4 substrate. The measured beam patterns of the 4/spl times/1 array with the filter show that the grating and sidelobes are effectively diminished by 15 to 30 dB in the region of interest.  相似文献

This paper presents a novel design of monolithic 2.5-GHz 4 $,times,$4 Butler matrix in 0.18- $mu$m CMOS technology. To achieve a full integration of smart antenna system monolithically, the proposed Butler matrix is designed with the phase-compensated transformer-based quadrature couplers and reflection-type phase shifters. The measurements show an accurate phase distribution of ${hbox{45}}{pm}{hbox{3}}^{circ}, ~{hbox{135}} pm {hbox{4}}^{circ}, ~ -{hbox{45}} pm {hbox{3}}^{circ}, ~{hbox{and}}~ -{hbox{135}} pm {hbox{4}}^{circ}$ with amplitude imbalance less than 1.5 dB. The antenna beamforming capability is also demonstrated by integrating the Butler matrix with a 1$,times,$ 4 monopole antenna array. The generated beams are pointing to $-{hbox{45}}^{circ}, ~ -{hbox{15}}^{circ}$ , 15$^{circ}$, and 45$^{circ}$, respectively, with less than 1$^{circ}$ error, which agree very well with the predictions. This Butler matrix consumes no dc power and only occupies the chip area of 1.36 $,times,$1.47 mm$^{2}$ . To our knowledge, this is the first demonstration of the single-chip Butler matrix in CMOS technology.   相似文献

A switched beam antenna with broadside beam based on a novel design of Butler feeding network is presented. This novel design requires only 90/spl deg/ hybrid couplers in the Butler matrix part with the aim of producing a broadside beam. A three-beam prototype has been fabricated. 传统短波接收天线为单一的波束指向天线或全向天线。为提高接收天线增益,同时产生多个波束指向不同方向,提出利用巴特勒矩阵作为短波接收天线阵的无源波束形成网络。在传统8×8巴特勒矩阵结构的基础上,设计改进型8×8巴特勒矩阵。以均匀8元圆环阵列为天线模型,利用FEKO仿真分析了其天线特性。在3~11 MHz频段内,P2、P3、P6、P7四个端口分别在202.5°、292.5°、112.5°、22.5°方向上得到了方向性较强的单一波束,7 MHz时波束增益达到最大11.9 dBi,波瓣3 dB宽度平均为60°;在P1、P4、P5、P8端口产生相同的2个波瓣,7 MHz时其波束增益达到最大9.8 dBi,波瓣3 dB宽度平均为89°。由以上仿真分析得出,该改进型8×8巴特勒矩阵能够同时产生6个波束,波束覆盖8个方向,提高了波束的方向性,提高了天线增益。  相似文献

The radiation characteristics of subterahertz (sub-THz) electromagnetic waves emitted from an antenna array integrated with photodiodes are investigated. The element of the fabricated array antenna was a 300-GHz microstrip antenna integrating a uni-traveling carrier photodiode. It was observed that the beamwidth of a 3 /spl times/ 1 antenna array is about half that of the single microstrip antenna. We also confirmed that the radiation direction changed by 20/spl deg/ when 2/spl pi//5 of phase difference was added to the input optical signal for each antenna element. These results demonstrated that sub-THz waves emitted by each element of the array were coherently superimposed and the power combining of the sub-THz radiation occurred in the microstrip antenna array. The measured output power of each radiation element is about 120 /spl mu/W, and a total output power of 1 mW can be estimated for a fabricated 3 /spl times/ 3 array in an ideal radiation condition.  相似文献

A general and flexible synthesis method based on the physical optics approximation is proposed for computing smooth-surface reliefs of reflectors. As a design example, the method has been applied to a quasi-optical power splitter consisting of two reflectors in a dual-offset configuration that couples a launched beam from a pyramidal horn antenna into a 2/spl times/4 horn antenna array. The two reflectors were treated as diffractive phase elements so that the proposed synthesis method allows reflector designs for many applications. The quasi-optical design has been confirmed at 150 GHz utilizing a vector field measurement system. The measured field distribution in the receiving antenna array plane is compared with the simulated one and shows a very good agreement.  相似文献

A 60-GHz coplanar waveguide (CPW)-fed post-supported patch antenna is presented using micromachining technology. In the proposed structure, the radiating patch and the feed line network can be optimized separately with a substrate. The antenna performance is improved by elevating the patch in the air. A patch array antenna is also designed with a simple feed network. The fabricated antenna shows broad band characteristics such as -10 dB bandwidth of 4.3GHz from 58.7GHz to 64.5GHz in the single patch antenna and 8.7GHz from 56.3GHz to 65GHz in 2/spl times/1 patch array antenna.  相似文献

This paper proposes two new circularly polarized retrodirective rectenna arrays, including a 2 /spl times/ 2 array and a 4 /spl times/ 4 array. A proximity-coupled microstrip ring antenna is used as the retrodirective rectenna array element, which can automatically block harmonic signals up to the third order from reradiating by the rectifying circuit. These arrays are printed on a Rogers Duroid 5880 substrate of /spl epsiv//sub r/=2.2 with a two-layer structure, with a total thickness of 1.5748 mm (or 62 mil). The new retrodirective rectenna array can track the incoming power source signals automatically and is less sensitive to the power incident angle variations, i.e., main-beam alignment deviation. It can provide a nearly constant dc output voltage within /spl plusmn/10/spl deg/ and 90% dc output voltage within /spl plusmn/45/spl deg/. The conversion efficiencies of the two arrays are 73.3% and 55%, respectively, when the power density is 10 mW/cm/sup 2/. The retrodirective rectenna array can be used in the low-power density applications for microwave wireless power transmissions.  相似文献

This letter describes a compact and high-gain multilayer parasitic microstrip array antenna (MPMAA). The design and performance of the proposed array antenna are presented. The antenna employs three layers with a 2/spl times/2 parasitic array on each layer. The developed prototype MPMAA employs a multilayer low-temperature co-fired ceramic (LTCC) substrate that is well suited to the assembly of MMIC chips. The fabricated MPMAA achieves a 7.17 dBi absolute gain at 60 GHz including the loss derived from the feeding parts and RF probe to measure its antenna performance. The spacing of the top layer of the parasitic array constructed by 2/spl times/2 elements has a free-space wavelength of 0.36 and the chip size is 10 mm/sup 2/. The fabricated MPMAA achieves both compact and high directional gain and satisfies the requirements for a millimeter-wave system-on-package (SOP).  相似文献

A new millimeter-wave printed twin dipole phased array antenna is developed at Ka band using a new microstrip-fed CPS tee junction, which does not require any bonding wires, air bridges, or via holes. The phased array used a piezoelectric transducer (PET) controlled tunable multitransmission line phase shifter to accomplish a progressive phase shift. A progressive phase shift of 88.8/spl deg/ is achieved with the 5 mm of perturber length when the PET has full deflection. Measured return loss of the twin dipole antenna is better than 10 dB from 29.5 to 30.35 GHz. Measured return loss of better than 15 dB is achieved from 30 to 31.5 GHz for a 1/spl times/8 phased array. The phased array antenna has a measured antenna gain of 14.4 dBi with 42/spl deg/ beam scanning and has more than 11 dB side lobe suppression across the scan.  相似文献

A novel metal-plate 1/spl times/2 array antenna constructed easily from a single metal plate and suited for WLAN operation in the 5.2/5.8 GHz bands (5150-5350/5725-5875 MHz) is presented. An experimental study of a dual-polarized L-probe patch antenna is presented. The antenna is designed to operate at around 1.8 GHz. A "dual-feed" technique is introduced to achieve high isolation between two input ports. The proposed antenna has an impedance bandwidth of 23.8% (SWR/spl les/2), 15% (SWR/spl les/1.5) and an isolation over 30 dB. In array designs, techniques for improving the isolation between two adjacent elements of an antenna array are also investigated. A two-element array with more than 30 dB isolation is designed and tested.  相似文献

An innovative approach for realization of broadband 4 times 4 Butler matrices, in which broadband symmetrical multisection 3-dB/90deg directional couplers are used as basic elements, has been presented. A new technique for realization of center crossover together with 45deg phase shifters is proposed where phase correction networks, consisting of a number of coupled-line sections, are applied. The use of the proposed phase correction networks allows to achieve equal-ripple 45deg differential phase characteristics in a wide frequency range. Numerical results for the design of broadband 4 times 4 Butler matrices consisting of multisection symmetrical 3-dB/90deg directional couplers having three, five, seven, and nine coupled-line sections in conjunction with phase correction networks having an appropriate number of coupled-line sections are given in a tabular form. A method of performance improvement for broadband Butler matrices by the combinatory use of directional couplers consisting of different number of coupled-line sections is also proposed. To verify the presented analysis a broadband 4 times 4 Butler matrix consisting of six 3-dB/90deg three-section symmetrical coupled-line directional couplers and two single-section coupled-line phase correction networks has been designed, manufactured, and measured. Results of measurements of the designed Butler matrix fully confirm the validity of the proposed technique of broadband 4 times 4 Butler matrix realization.  相似文献

In this paper, a wide-band photonically phased array antenna is demonstrated. The array configuration consists of a 4 /spl times/ 1 Vivaldi single-polarization antenna array and an independent photonic phasing system for each element. The phasing network of this array is implemented using two novel photonic phase shifters based on the vector summation approach. A vector sum phase shifter (VSPS), which exhibits a frequency-linear characteristic from dc to 15 GHz and can be continuously tuned from 0 to 100/spl deg/, is presented. A second-order VSPS (SO-VSPS), a modification of the VSPS that is capable of 0-430/spl deg/ phasing range, is also demonstrated. This paper presents the operation and characterization of each component of the array, including the radiating elements and the various photonic phase shifters and, finally, a demonstration of the combined system. A discussion on the practicality of this system for airborne applications is presented, along with suggestions for simplification and improvement.  相似文献

A simple and low-cost multiple beam phased array is designed using a microstrip Rotman lens and multi-line phase shifter controlled by a piezoelectric transducer (PET) at Ka-band. A microstrip Rotman lens with five beam ports and nine array ports is used as a feed for a multiple beam antenna array to generate five beams centered at the angles of 0/spl deg/, /spl plusmn/15/spl deg/, and /spl plusmn/30/spl deg/. The lens fed nine-element patch array shows the antenna gain of 10 dBi and sidelobe suppression of 10 dB. Each beam is steered over /spl plusmn/8/spl deg/ using two PET-controlled phase shifters, and the five beams cover /spl plusmn/38/spl deg/ from the broadside.  相似文献

A novel shorted, folded planar monopole antenna for application in GSM/DCS dual-band mobile phones is proposed. The antenna is easily fabricated from stamping a single metal plate, which is then folded onto a foam base of compact size 5/spl times/10/spl times/40 mm/sup 3/. In addition, the proposed antenna shows a very low profile of 5 mm protruded from the top edge of the system ground plane, making it very promising to be employed within the casing of a mobile phone as an internal antenna.  相似文献
