为了降低移动通信网络中位置跟踪操作的代价,指针推进策略被提出.显然,指针链长度的确定对这一策略的有效应用是至为重要的.已有论文假定移动台在位置区的逗留时间服从指数分布的条件下,对指针链的长度进行研究,但指数分布的特殊性,限制了其研究结果的应用.本文推广了上述结果,研究了移动台在位置区的逗留时间服从一般概率分布的指针推进策略,通过构造向量马氏过程,利用密度演化方法,导出了指针链长度的概率公式,这个公式可用于对各种指针推进策略性能的评价.  相似文献

Reducing the volume of location updates and cost of searching for location information are two important issues for tracking mobile users in personal communication systems. Many approaches have been proposed to improve both the location update traffic and searching costs. Some of these approaches can reduce access cost and some other approaches can reduce the location update cost and location update rate. In this paper, we shall propose a new approach for reducing both location update cost and searching cost (for finding mobile users location information). The new scheme called Virtual Overlap Region with Forwarding Pointer (VORFP) uses the forwarding pointer and the virtual overlap region concepts. The virtual overlap region technique is a good method for reducing the location update traffic, especially when a user backs and forths between adjacent cells. Our performance evaluations show that VORFP can significantly reduce searching cost and update cost.  相似文献

This paper introduces a dynamic hierarchical database architecture for location management in personal communications service (PCS) networks. The proposed scheme allows the dynamic adjustments of user location information distribution based on the mobility and calling patterns of the mobile terminals (MTs). A unique distribution strategy is determined for each MT, and location pointers are set up at selected remote locations which indicate the current location of the MTs. This method effectively reduces the signaling and database access overhead for location registration and call delivery. Besides, the required processing is handled by a distributed network of directory registers and centralized coordination is not necessary. The functions of the other network elements, such as the home location register (HLR) and the visitor location registers (VLRs), remain primarily unchanged. One of the main challenges in personal communication service (PCS) is to locate many mobiles that may move frequently from place to place. Such a system operation is called location tracking. Many network signals flow, and database queries are required to achieve such a task. In addition to the two-level hierarchical strategy in IS-41 and GSM, several strategies have been proposed to improve the efficiency of location tracking. Pointer forwarding was used to reduce the expensive home location register (HLR) accesses. Previously, the distributed HLR scheme was proposed to prevent the HLR from becoming a bottleneck in the signaling network. However, the length of a forwarding pointer chain may be lengthened in a distributed HLR environment. We propose a more efficient strategy to overcome this potential problem. This strategy attempts to migrate the locating chains in a distributed HLR system when a mobile issues a registration operation. As a consequence, the length of any forwarding pointer chain does not exceed one in our strategy. Simulation results indicate that our strategy significantly decreases the locating cost. In fact, this strategy provides an upper bound of location tracking time owing to the fact that the length of any locating path does not exceed one. This paper deals with the problem of Location Management in mobile ad hoc networks where users are organized in groups. In the following this type of systems are referred to as Mobile Ad hoc Networks for Group Operations (MANGO). This paper proposes a framework for location management which exploits the trend of mobile users to spontaneously form groups in MANGOs. The management procedures required to support such spontaneous groups, which are by nature dynamic, are introduced as well. The proposed spontaneous group management is based on a hierarchical location database architecture and the concept of Group Leader, which is a terminal responsible for the location update of a group of terminals. Objective of the proposed framework is minimizing the burden on location databases and, at the same time, the signaling issued by terminals. In this paper, distributed operations required to support the whole framework are properly introduced and described. Simulation experiments have been run in order to assess the proposed scheme. Performance results show that the introduced methodology allows reduced signaling and location updating.  相似文献

位置管理是移动通信领域的一个具有挑战性的问题,涉及到位置更新和位置查找操作.在现行蜂窝系统的位置管理策略(简称"基本策略")中,一旦移动台越区,就需要进行位置更新.由于移动台的越区具有局部性,基本策略会造成系统资源的极大浪费.因此,降低位置管理的费用成为移动通信领域的一个研究热点.该文给出不需要进行位置更新的环状搜索位置管理策略(简称"环状策略"),并推导出搜索位置区平均层数的一个公式,然后利用这一公式对基本策略、指针推进策略与环状策略的费用进行了对比研究,得出:在一定条件下,环状策略的费用要比基本策略及基本指针推进策略小.  相似文献

Replication strategy is mostly useful for replicating the mobile user’s profile at selected locations from which some callers have higher calling rate. Location management scheme also include replication strategy to reduce the location lookup cost of called mobile user. It plays important role in personal communication services in order to reduce call setup cost, call setup time, and increases the QoS (quality of service). In prior replication schemes, called user’s location profile is placed at some fixed and limited number of visitor location registers (VLRs) based on call history of the caller. In prior hybrid schemes location update and replication strategies are combined together. These prior hybrid schemes apply pointer forwarding strategy and replication. But these schemes have limitations like holding “loose” form of location profile and higher location update cost. We have proposed a new hybrid scheme which includes adaptive replication of updated user’s location profile and mobility anchoring point (MAP) for location update. The main objective of the proposed scheme is to reduce call setup cost and call setup time. In order to achieve the objective, adaptive replication is applied at certain visitor location registers (VLRs) according to movement of caller. The replica is kept updated at MAP and replicated to neighbor VLRs as per movement of the caller. We have presented fluid-flow based analytical modeling which shows that proposed scheme outperforms the prior hybrid scheme.  相似文献

Proxy Mobile IPv6 (PMIPv6) is designed to provide a network-based localized mobility management protocol, but it does not handle the global mobility of hosts. In this paper, we propose a location management scheme based on Domain Name System (DNS) for PMIPv6 which can support global mobility by using DNS as a location manager. In addition, to support large numbers of mobile terminals and enhance network scalability a paging extension scheme is introduced to PMIPv6.To evaluate the proposed location management scheme, we establish an analytical model, formulate the location update cost and the paging cost,and analyze the influence of the different factors on the total signaling cost. The performance results show that our proposed scheme outperforms the basic PMIPv6 under various parameters in terms of reducing the signaling overhead and the proposed scheme reduces signaling overhead compared to the basic PMIPv6.  相似文献

For a IPCS network to effectively deliver services to its mobile users, it must have an efficient way to keep track of the mobile users. The location management fulfills this task through location registration and paging. To reduce the signaling traffic, many schemes such as a local anchor (LA) scheme, per-user caching scheme and pointer forwarding scheme have been proposed in the past. In this paper, we present a new location management scheme which intends to mitigate the signaling traffic as well as reduce the tracking delay in the PCS systems. In this strategy, we choose a set of visitor location registers (VLRs) traversed by users as the mobility agents (MA), which form another level of management in order to make some registration signaling traffic localized. The idea is as follows: instead of always updating to the home location register (HLR), which would become the bottleneck otherwise, many location updates are carried out in the mobility agents. Thus, the two-level pointer forwarding scheme is designed to reduce the signaling traffic: pointers can be set up between VLRs as the traditional pointer forwarding scheme and can also be set up between MAs. The numerical results show that this strategy can significantly reduce the network signaling traffic for users with low CMR without increasing much of the call setup delay.  相似文献

Location tracking operations in a personal communications service (PCS) network are expensive. A location tracking algorithm called pointer forwarding has been proposed to reduce the location update cost. The key observation behind forwarding is that if users change PCS registration areas (RAs) frequently, but receive calls relatively infrequently, it should be possible to avoid registrations at the home-location register (HLR) database by simply setting up a forwarding pointer from the previous visitor-location register (VLR). Calls to a given user will first query the user's HLR to determine the first VLR, which the user was registered at, and then follow a chain of forwarding pointers to the user's current VLR. To reduce the “find” cost in call delivery, the PCS provider may distribute HLR databases in the network. This paper integrates the concept of distributed HLRs with pointer forwarding, and the new scheme is referred to as the pointer forwarding with distributed HLR (PFDHLR). Since no registration to the HLR is performed in the pointer forwarding scheme when a user moves to the new locations, the cost of updating multiple HLRs is eliminated in PFDHLR. We investigate the notion of per-user integrated location and service management in personal communication service (PCS) networks by which a per-user service proxy is created to serve as a gateway between the mobile user and all client-server applications engaged by the mobile user. The service proxy is always colocated with the mobile user's location database such that whenever the MU's location database moves during a location handoff, a service handoff also ensues to colocate the service proxy with the location database. This allows the proxy to know the location of the mobile user all the time to reduce the network communication cost for service delivery. We investigate four integrated location and service management schemes. Our results show that the centralized scheme performs the best when the mobile user's SMR (service to mobility ratio) is low and CMR (call to mobility ratio) is high, while the fully distributed scheme performs the best when both SMR and CMR are high. In all other conditions, the dynamic anchor scheme is the best except when the service context transfer cost is high, under which the static anchor scheme performs the best. Through analytical and simulation results, we demonstrate that different users with vastly different mobility and service patterns should adopt different integrated location and service management methods to optimize system performance. Further, the best integrated scheme always performs better than the best decoupled scheme that considers location and service managements separately and management schemes that do not use any service proxy.  相似文献

Recently, as the number of mobile terminals (or users) keeps explosively increasing, the location management to track the mobile terminals in mobile communication networks is becoming more important. However, previous schemes have used static location information without any consideration about the moving direction of a mobile terminal. For a fixed paging area, this results in unnecessary pagings, thus increasing the location management cost. In this paper, we propose a new location management scheme using the direction characteristics of a mobile terminal. The direction vector is defined to represent the moving direction of a mobile terminal and to compute a distance from the cell where a location update occurs to the current cell. The offset operation of direction vectors is also presented to represent the position of a mobile terminal in a paging area. This allows the mobile terminal to determine whether a location update will be performed or not. The mobile terminal can also vary its own paging area dynamically according to its moving direction whenever it moves across its paging area. In addition, we develop an analytical model for the proposed scheme which captures the direction characteristics of a mobile terminal based on the Markov model. Analytical results show that the proposed scheme can reduce location management cost by forming a dynamic paging area along the moving direction of a mobile terminal when compared to other schemes.Ui-Sung Song received his B.S and M.S. degrees in Computer Science and Engineering from Korea University, Seoul, Korea in 1997 and 1999, respectively. One of the key issues in cellular mobile communication is to find the current location of mobile terminal (MT) to deliver the services, which is called location management (LM). Much research has been done on dynamic LM that reduced the LM cost up to a large extent. In movement based dynamic LM scheme, the location area is defined in the form of ring of cells for individual user. Whenever an MT visits a cell outside of its current location area (LA), it triggers location update (LU). For this purpose, network must inform the mobile terminal about ID of all the cells present in its current location area. In this paper, a simple way of cell-ID assignment is proposed under which, network sends only the ID of center cell of LA ring to MT and then MT can compute IDs of all other cells in its location area. This saves a significant amount of wireless bandwidth by minimizing the signaling traffic at VLR level and thus reduces the mobility management overhead.  相似文献

The basic architecture of a personal communication network consists of a wireline network and mobile terminals. Each mobile terminal communicates with the wireline network through a nearby base station. In order to route incoming calls to a destination mobile terminal, the network must keep track of the location of each mobile terminal from time to time. This is achieved bylocation update such that each mobile terminal reports its current location to the network at specific time points. When an incoming call arrives, the network will page the mobile terminal starting from the last updated location. A trade-off, therefore, exists between the frequency of location update and the number of locations paged in order to track down the mobile terminal. This paper introduces a location update policy which minimizes the cost of mobile terminal location tracking. A mobile terminal dynamically determines when to update after moving to a new cell based on its mobility pattern and the incoming call arrival probability. The performance of this scheme is close to that of the optimal policy reported earlier. However, the processing time requirement of this scheme is very low. The minimal computation required by this scheme enables its usage in mobile terminals which has limited energy supply and computational power.  相似文献

Mobile communications and wireless networks are developing at a fast pace. The increasing number of mobile subscribers and terminals are the real life evidence of the fast growing development in the area of wireless communication. Wireless communication technology is now pursuing 4G (fourth generation) and seeking a scheme to provide quality of service (QoS) to the various applications continuously even moving to another network. In this paper, we proposed a dynamic resource management architecture which considers vertical handoff situation with minimal disruption of service to the users considering seamless provision of QoS. The proposed scheme efficiently manages resources and provides stable services to the mobile terminal. The simulation results show that resource management enabled mobile terminals utilize system resources, CPU and memory, efficiently improved by 40% and 65%, respectively, rather than mobile terminals without resource tuning.  相似文献

在蜂窝移动通信系统中,用户位置管理方法性能的好坏直接影响系统的服务质量.本文提出了一种基于运动状态的动态位置管理方法.系统根据用户不同的运动状态动态地决定其位置区的大小.其性能较传统方法有显著提高,接近基于个体移动特征的方法;同时,它保持了传统算法实现简单的特点,不增加任何系统负担,不改变现有的信令流程,较好地兼顾了性能与工程实用性两方面的要求,适合3G系统的应用要求,具有很好的工程应用前景.  相似文献

位置管理或移动性管理是移动计算研究领域的一个具有挑战性的问题.我国及其他国家目前正在使用的个人通信网络如GSM、IS-41中,用两层数据库HLR/VLR支持位置管理.在这些网络中,每当移动台从一个位置区LA(Location area)移动到另一个位置区,其基本的位置管理策略(简称"基本策略")不管是否必要均立即进行位置更新操作,因而造成系统资源的极大浪费,降低了系统的性能.本文给出一种带门槛的环形搜索策略(简称"门槛环形策略")——将位置区分成环,设定一个门槛(整数),当移动台越过的位置区的环数没有达到门槛时,系统不进行位置更新操作,以减少位置管理的费用.在假定移动台的呼入是一个泊松过程,移动台在各个位置区的逗留时间是符合一般概率分布的随机变量的条件下,推导出在两次呼入之间移动台处于各位置区环的概率及移动台所越过的位置区环数公式,给出了"门槛环形策略"的位置管理费用小于"基本策略"的条件.  相似文献
