This paper considers a cognitive radio network where a secondary user (SU) coexists with a primary user (PU). The interference outage constraint is applied to protect the primary transmission. The power allocation problem to jointly maximize the ergodic capacity and minimize the outage probability of the SU, subject to the average transmit power constraint and the interference outage constraint, is studied. Suppose that the perfect knowledge of the instantaneous channel state information (CSI) of the interference link between the SU transmitter and the PU receiver is available at the SU, the optimal power allocation strategy is then proposed. Additionally, to manage more practical situations, we further assume only the interference link channel distribution is known and derive the corresponding optimal power allocation strategy. Extensive simulation results are given to verify the effectiveness of the proposed strategies. It is shown that the proposed strategies achieve high ergodic capacity and low outage probability simultaneously, whereas optimizing the ergodic capacity (or outage probability) only leads to much higher outage probability (or lower ergodic capacity). It is also shown that the SU performance is not degraded due to partial knowledge of the interference link CSI if tight transmit power constraint is applied.

Recently, cooperative relaying techniques have been integrated into spectrum‐sharing systems in an effort to yield higher spectral efficiency. Many investigations on such systems have assumed that the channel state information between the secondary transmitter and primary receiver used to calculate the maximum allowable transmit secondary user transmit power to limit the interference is known to be perfect. However, because of feedback delay from the primary receiver or the time‐varying properties of the channel, the channel information may be outdated, which is an important scenario to cognitive radio systems. In this paper, we investigate the impact of outdated channel state information for relay selection on the performance of partial relay selection with amplify and forward in underlay spectrum‐sharing systems. We begin by deriving a closed‐form expression for the outage probability of the secondary network in a Rayleigh fading channel along with peak received interference power constraint and maximum allowable secondary user transmit power. We also provide a closed‐form expression for the average bit‐error rate of the underlying system. Moreover, we present asymptotic expressions for both the outage probability and average bit‐error rate in the high signal‐to‐noise ratio regime that reveal practical insights on the achievable diversity gain. Finally, we confirm our results through comparisons with computer simulations. Copyright © 2016 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

In this paper, we have investigated the outage capacity of secondary user for opportunistic spectrum sharing under the joint peak and average received power constraints for Rayleigh fading environment. Under this communication scenario, on detecting the licensed primary user inactive, the secondary unlicensed users transmit data/information in the licensed frequency band such that no or minimum interference may be experienced by the primary user. The soft sensing information (SSI) and secondary user’s channel state information is used to obtain the closed form expressions for the ergodic and outage capacity using truncated channel inversion with fixed rate technique under the joint peak and average received power constraints. Numerically simulated results are provided to demonstrate the improvement in outage capacity of secondary user under the proposed spectrum sharing scheme. Moreover, the proposed scheme is also compared with other conventional spectrum sharing schemes to illustrate the benefits of SSI and received power constraints on the outage capacity of secondary user.

This paper investigates the power allocation problem in decode‐and‐forward cognitive dual‐hop systems over Rayleigh fading channels. In order to optimize the performance of the secondary network in terms of power consumption, an outage‐constrained power allocation scheme is proposed. The secondary nodes adjust their transmit power subject to an average interference constraint at the primary receiver and an outage probability constraint for the secondary receivers while having only statistical channel knowledge with respect to the primary nodes. We compare this approach with a power allocation scheme based on instantaneous channel state information under a peak interference constraint. Analytical and numerical results show that the proposed approach, without requiring the constant interchange of channel state information, can achieve a similar performance in terms of outage probability as that of power allocation based on instantaneous channel knowledge. Moreover, the transmit power allocated by the proposed approach is considerably smaller than the power allocated by the method based on instantaneous channel knowledge in more than 50% of the time. Consider a multi‐user underlay cognitive network where multiple cognitive users concurrently share the spectrum with a primary network with multiple users. The channel between the secondary network is assumed to have independent but not identical Nakagami‐m fading. The interference channel between the secondary users (SUs) and the primary users is assumed to have Rayleigh fading. A power allocation based on the instantaneous channel state information is derived when a peak interference power constraint is imposed on the secondary network in addition to the limited peak transmit power of each SU. The uplink scenario is considered where a single SU is selected for transmission. This opportunistic selection depends on the transmission channel power gain and the interference channel power gain as well as the power allocation policy adopted at the users. Exact closed form expressions for the moment‐generating function, outage performance, symbol error rate performance, and the ergodic capacity are derived. Numerical results corroborate the derived analytical results. The performance is also studied in the asymptotic regimes, and the generalized diversity gain of this scheduling scheme is derived. It is shown that when the interference channel is deeply faded and the peak transmit power constraint is relaxed, the scheduling scheme achieves full diversity and that increasing the number of primary users does not impact the diversity order. This paper consider the power allocation strategies in the cognitive radio (CR) system in the presence of channel estimation errors. As the user has different channel condition in CR systems, different amount of power resource is required to meets the QoS request. In order to guarantee the fairness of each CR user, ensure the interference from the primary user and other CR users meet the QoS requirement of the CR user and limit the interference that is caused by CR users on primary user within the range into the level that primary user can tolerate, we proposed some new power allocation schemes. The targets are to minimize the maximum power allocated to CR users, to maximize the minimum signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) among all CR users and to minimize the maximum outage probability over all CR users. The first power allocation scheme can be formulated using Geometric Programming (GP). Since GP problem is equivalent to the convex optimization problem, we can obtain the optimal solutions for the first scheme. The latter two power allocation schemes are not GP problems. We propose iterative algorithms to solve them. Simulation results show that proposed schemes can efficiently guarantee the fairness of CR users under the QoS constraint of the primary user and CR users.

In this paper we have studied the subcarrier and optimal power allocation strategy for OFDM-based cognitive radio (CR) networks. Firstly, in order to protect the primary user communication from the interference of the cognitive user transmissions in fading wireless channels, we design an opportunistic power control scheme to maximize the cognitive user capacity without degrading primary user’s QoS. The mathematical optimization problem is formulated as maximizing the capacity of the secondary users under the interference constraint at the primary receiver and the Lagrange method is applied to obtain the optimal solution. Secondly, in order to limit the outage probability within primary user’s tolerable range we analyze the outage probability of the primary user with respect to the interference power of the secondary user for imperfect CSI. Finally, in order to get the better tradeoff between fairness and system capacity in cognitive radio networks, we proposed an optimal algorithm of jointing subcarrier and power allocation scheme among multiple secondary users in OFDM-based cognitive radio networks. Simulation results demonstrate that our scheme can improve the capacity performance and efficiently guarantee the fairness of secondary users.

The two main constraints on the transmit power allocation of the secondary service in a spectrum sharing scheme are the received interference threshold at the primary receiver, and the maximum transmit power of the secondary user. We obtain a critical system parameter which relates these two constraints and enables the system designer to eliminate the interference threshold constraint by adjusting the maximum transmit power of the secondary users. Eliminating the interference threshold constraint significantly reduces the system complexity by making the power allocation of the secondary service independent from the channel state information between the secondary transmitter and the primary receiver; thus removes the need for signaling between primary and secondary systems.

Most resource allocation algorithms are based on interference power constraint in cognitive radio networks.Instead of using conventional primary user interference constraint,we give a new criterion called allowable signal to interference plus noise ratio(SINR) loss constraint in cognitive transmission to protect primary users.Considering power allocation problem for cognitive users over flat fading channels,in order to maximize throughput of cognitive users subject to the allowable SINR loss constraint and maximum transmit power for each cognitive user,we propose a new power allocation algorithm. The comparison of computer simulation between our proposed algorithm and the algorithm based on interference power constraint is provided to show that it gets more throughput and provides stability to cognitive radio networks.

Cognitive radio is an emerging technique to improve the utilization of radio frequency spectrum in wireless communication networks. That is, spectrum efficiency can be increased significantly by giving opportunistic access of the frequency bands to a group of cognitive users to whom the band has not been licensed. In this paper, as a cross layer application (MAC and physical layers) of graph theory, we consider the problem of throughput maximization of spectrum allocation in cognitive radio networks under interference constraint. We propose a novel auction-based channel allocation mechanism which tries to maximize both total and primary users’ utilities while satisfying signal to interference ratio constraint on primary receivers so that transmitted packets will be successfully received, without controlling secondary user powers. For comparison we discuss a greedy algorithm as well, however, one that does not handle interference issue. In order to compare results of proposed and greedy algorithms, we propose net throughput by taking into account outage probability of primary receiver. Simulation results show that exposing higher SINR (outage) threshold not only decreases total gain and primary users’ utilities but also worsens channel distribution performance. On the other hand adding auction mechanism significantly increases total gain throughput and primary user’ s utility. Particularly, up to SINR threshold values of 20 dBs, auction provides outstanding performance and proposed algorithm has total throughput results close to those of the greedy one even though no interference constraint is applied in the greedy algorithm. Another noticeable point of simulation results is crossover of net throughputs of proposed and greedy algorithms at a SINR threshold level after which results of ABSA-UNIC and NASA-UNIC are much better. This clearly shows superiority of proposed mechanism.

In this paper, we investigate the physical layer security of a hybrid cognitive relay network using an energy harvesting relay in presence of an eavesdropper. In the hybrid scheme, a secondary user (SU) as well as a cognitive relay works either in underlay or in overlay mode. In underlay, the transmit power of the SU as well as the relay is limited by the maximum acceptable interference at primary user (PU) receiver as required by an outage constraint of PU, a quality of service for PU. The secondary network consists of a decode and forward relay that harvests energy from radio frequency signal of secondary transmitter as well as PU transmitter to assist the SU in forwarding the information signal to the destination. A time switching relaying protocol is used at the relay. We evaluate the secrecy outage probability of secondary relay network assuming that channel state information of the interfering links from both the SU and relay transmitter to PU receiver is imperfect. Our results reveal the impact of imperfect channel state information, energy harvesting time, tolerable interference threshold, and PU outage constraint on the secrecy outage probability of SU.

Cognitive radio allows Secondary Users (SUs) to dynamically use the spectrum resource li-censed to Primary Users (PUs ), and significantly improves the efficiency of spectrum utilization and is viewed as a promising technology. In cognitive radio networks, the problem of power control is an important issue. In this paper, we mainly focus on the problem of power control for fading channels in cognitive radio networks. The spectrum sharing un-derlay scenario is considered, where SUs are al-lowed to coexist with PUs on the condition that the outage probability of PUs is below the maximum outage probability threshold limitation due to the interference caused by SUs. Moreover, besides the outage probability threshold which is defined to protect the performance of PUs, we also consider the maximum transmit power constraints for each SU. With such a setup, we emphasize the problem of power control to minimize the outage probability of each SU in fading channels. Then, based on the statistical information of the fading channel, the closed expression for outage probability is given in fading channels. The Dual-Iteration Power Control (DIPC) algorithm is also proposed to minimize the outage probability based on Perron-Frobenius theo-ry and gradient descent method under the constraint condition. Finally, simulation results are illustrated to demonstrate the performance of the proposed scheme.

Spectrum sharing cognitive radio aims to improve the spectrum efficiency via sharing the spectrum band licensed to the primary user (PU) with the secondary user (SU) concurrently provided that the interference caused by the SU to the PU is limited. The channel state information (CSI) between the secondary transmitter (STx) and the primary receiver (PRx) is used by the STx to calculate the appropriate transmit power to limit the interference. We assume that this CSI is not only having channel estimation errors but also outdated due to feedback delay, which is different from existing studies. We derive closed-form expressions for the ergodic capacities of the SU with this imperfect CSI under the average interference power (AIP) constraint and the peak interference power (PIP) constraint. Illustrative results are presented to show the effects of the imperfect CSI. It is shown that the ergodic capacity of the SU is robust to the channel estimation errors and feedback delay under high feedback delay. It is also shown that decreasing the distance between STx and secondary receiver (SRx) or increasing the distance between STx and PRx can mitigate the impact of the imperfect CSI and significantly increase the ergodic capacity of the SU.

In this paper, we study power allocation in OFDM cognitive radio (CR) relay networks. The objective of power allocation is to maximize the instantaneous capacity of the CR network. It is assumed that the available channel state information between the secondary and primary users is an outdated but correlated version of the actual instantaneous channel state information. Optimal power allocation schemes are developed for both decode‐and‐forward and amplify‐and‐forward relay assisted CR transmission, assuming that the primary users are subject to average interference constraints and the CR transmitters are subject to maximum transmit power constraint. In addition, suboptimal power allocation schemes with reduced complexity are also proposed. Performance of the proposed schemes is compared with uniform power allocation and numerical results confirm that the proposed power allocation schemes achieve significant capacity improvement in comparison to uniform power loading. Furthermore, the proposed suboptimal power allocation schemes can be used as less complex alternatives for optimal power allocation with some capacity degradation. For the cognitive OFDMA uplink communication system,a robust power and subcarrier allocation algorithm based on maximum interference efficiency was proposed.Firstly, considering primary user interference constraint, secondary user transmit power constraint, subcarrier allocation constraint and secondary user minimum rate constraint,a robust resource optimization model based on outage probability was established. Then,by using Bernstein approximation and Dinkelbach’s method, the original non-convex problem based on outage probability was transformed into an equivalent convex optimization one,and the analytical solution was obtained by Lagrangian dual function method.Meanwhile, the computational complexity and robust sensitivity of the algorithm were analyzed. The simulation results show that the proposed algorithm has better interference efficiency and robustness.

Various cognitive network technologies are developed rapidly. In the article, the power and spectrum allocation in multi-hop cognitive radio network (CRN) with linear topology is investigated. The overall goal is to minimize outage probability and promote spectrum utility, including total reward and fairness, while meeting the limits of total transmit power and interference threshold to primary user simultaneously. The problem is solved with convex optimization and artificial bee colony (ABC) algorithm jointly. Simulation shows that the proposed scheme not only minimizes outage probability, but also realizes a better use of spectrum.
