The conventional decision feedback equaliser (DFE) that employs a linear combination of channel observations and past decisions is considered. The design of this class of DFE is to construct a hyperplane that separates the different signal classes. It is well known that the popular minimum mean square error (MMSE) design is generally not the optimal minimum bit error rate (MBER) solution. A strategy is proposed for designing the DFE based on support vector machines (SVMs). The SVM design achieves asymptotically the MBER solution and is superior in performance to the usual MMSE solution. The authors propose to combine linear feedback equalisation and decision feedback demodulation for the equalisation of differentially coherent PSK signalling. By modifying the equaliser output based on the decision feedback demodulation before feeding back, the proposed equaliser can be made to behave like one with a decision feedback structure. Indeed, computer simulation results demonstrate that this equaliser performs much better than existing equalisers, such as linear equalisers for differentially coherent detection. An iterative modified decision feedback equaliser (I-MDFE) with no feedback filter over broadband channels is proposed. Generally, in the structure of an I-DFE, a soft residual postcursor intersymbol interference (ISI) is removed by a feedback filter (FBF). However, the ISI in the I-MDFE is precancelled prior to the equalisation, which results in no requirement of the FBF. It is demonstrated in the simulation evaluation that the I-MDFE can offer excellent performance under the broadband channel, with shorter filter taps than those of an iterative linear equaliser (I-LE) and the I-DFE  相似文献

In this correspondence we derive the finite-length, minimum mean-squared error decision feedback equalizer (MMSE-DFE). We include decision delay as an explicit parameter. Our derivation yields an algebraic interpretation of the effect of decision delay on DFE performance (measured by mean-squared error). It also allows the fast computation of the MMSE-DFE for several different values of both decision delay and the number of feedback taps. The performance, in terms of bit error rate, of various data detectors at the output of a 1 bit differential demodulator for DECT receivers, is evaluated assuming static channels. The relevant result is that a one-tap decision feedback equaliser with an optimised threshold value yields a similar performance to the much more complex Viterbi algorithm. Moreover, in the presence of channels with a strong intersymbol interference, the decision feedback equaliser gains more than 2 dB in terms of SNR at BER 103 with respect to the threshold detector  相似文献

A new nonlinear equalizer for high-density magnetic recording channels is presented. It has a structure of the decision-feedback equalizer (DFE) with a nonlinear model at the feedback section and a dynamic threshold detector. The feedback nonlinear model is a sequence of look-up tables (LUTs) indexed by time, and each table is addressed by a transition pattern formed by one future and ν past transitions. We call this new nonlinear equalizer the pattern-dependent DFE (PDFE). The feedback nonlinear model cancels the trailing nonlinear intersymbol interference (ISI), and then the data decision is made by considering the precursor nonlinear ISI caused by one future symbol. We propose a tap optimization criterion SNRd for the PDFE which in effect tries to maximize the output signal to noise ratio, and derive a closed-form solution for the tap values. We compare the detection performance of PDFE with that of the DFE and the RAM-DFE on experimental channels. The RAM-DFE is a DFE with one large LUT at its feedback section. The results show that the PDFE yields a significant performance improvement over the DFE and the RAM-DFE. Also the PDFE derived in this paper achieves a superior performance compared with the PDFE derived by the minimum mean-square-error criterion  相似文献

We present an approximate analysis approach to the computation of the probability of error and mean burst error length for a decision feedback equalizer (DFE) that takes into account feedback of decision errors. The method uses a reduced-state Markov model of the feedback process and is applicable to linear modulation formats. We use this technique to analyze a DFE design that mitigates the effects of feedback error by incorporating a soft decision device into the feedback path and a norm constraint on the feedback filter weights. A multisensor decision feedback equaliser based on the minimum mean squared error (MMSE) criterion is studied. The superiority of the performance of the multisensor equaliser is shown by simulation of a whole communication system in which the adaptive equaliser is incorporated. The recursive least squares (RLS) algorithm is used to update the coefficients. This paper presents an equalization structure in which antennadiversity, adaptive decision feedback equalization (DFE), interleavingand trellis-coded modulation (TCM) can be effectively combined to combatboth ISI and cochannel interference in cellular mobile radioenvironments. The feedback filter of the DFE can use either tentative orfinal decision symbols of the TCM Viterbi decoding to cancel tail ISIwith the square root Kalman algorithm. A performance bound on theaverage pairwise error probability for TCM under perfect interleavingand equalization is obtained by analysis. Some simulation results whichillustrate the potential of the proposed system will also be given. 本文提出的一种新颖的基于多用户反馈的判决反馈均衡器,解决了在CDMA多用户检测中传统自适应判决反馈均衡器误码率高、系统容量小的缺点.它由具有误差反馈滤波器的判决反馈均衡器(Decision Feedback Equalizer with Error Feedback Filter,DFE-EFF)构成,并在判决后反馈多用户数据抵消多址干扰(多用户反馈干扰抵消).文中给出其结构图,分析各种判决反馈均衡算法.理论证明,具有误差反馈滤波器的多用户反馈干扰抵消判决反馈均衡器(多用户反馈干扰抵消DFE-EFF)较各种判决反馈均衡器为最优,它能同时有效处理ISI,MAI和噪声的干扰.仿真结果表明,在误码率性能和系统容量两方面,多用户反馈干扰抵消DFE-EFF比DFE、DFE-EFF均有较大改善.  相似文献

In this paper we introduce a nonlinear equalizer using the Radial Basis Function (RBF) network with decision feedback equalizer (DFE) for electronic dispersion compensation in optical communication systems with on-off-keying and a direct detection receiver. The RBF method introduces a non-linear equalization technique suitable for optical communication direct detection systems that include nonlinear transformation at the photodetector. A bit error rate performance comparison shows that the RBF with DFE out performs the RBF without DFE and achieves similar results provided by maximum likelihood sequence estimator.  相似文献
