Irrigated rice fields have enormous potential for expanding the aquaculture production in rice producing countries. Two field experiments were carried out at the Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh, to optimize the productivity of integrated rice–fish systems using Nile tilapia, Oreochromis niloticus (L.), and common carp, Cyprinus carpio L. Both experiments were laid out in a randomized complete block design with three replicates per treatment and regular rice monoculture as control. In the first trial, carp and tilapia were tested in single culture and in mixed culture with supplementary feeding at 2× maintenance level. The highest fish yield was obtained in the carp/tilapia mixed culture (586 ± 125 kg ha 1), followed by tilapia alone (540 ± 65 kg ha 1), and carp alone (257 ± 95 kg ha 1). Carp had significantly lower yield than the other two fish groups (p < 0.05) due to high mortality and inefficient feed utilization. As the carp/tilapia combination performed the best in the first experiment, it was tested with different inputs in the second trial, i.e. regular urea fertilization and two different feeding levels. The feeding levels were: continuous feeding at 2× maintenance level (feed level I) and a declining feeding schedule from 4× to 2× maintenance level (feed level II). The highest fish yield was obtained in feed level II (935 ± 29 kg ha 1), followed by feed level I (776 ± 22 kg ha 1), and the non-fed group (515 ± 85 kg ha 1). Yield differences between the treatments were significant at p < 0.05. Rice yields showed controversial effects between the rice–fish treatments and were dependent on the inputs provided. The highest rice production (4.2 t ha 1) was obtained from rice–fish plots with regular urea fertilization. Various significant effects of fish on water quality parameters were observed. Fish decreased the dissolved oxygen (DO) and pH value compared to rice only, especially when supplementary feed was provided. Moreover, fish stimulated the growth of phytoplankton and increased chlorophyll-a concentration. In conclusion, carp/tilapia mixed culture with supplementary feeding was found to be optimal for maximizing the output from rice–fish culture.  相似文献

Rainbow trout (100 g initial weight) were subjected to the combined effect of two culture densities (15 and 40 kg m−3, D15 and D40, respectively) and two dietary energy levels (22 and 27 MJ kg−1 E22 and E27, respectively) during a 75-days experimental period. At the end of the experiment, the growth rate as well as the metabolic and oxidative status of liver and muscle of fish were studied. The results showed that combination of culture density and dietaryenergy level negatively affected growth, cholesterol and LDL plasma levels and oxidative stress in muscle. Higher culture density negatively affected the values of total protein, triglycerides, and HDL in plasma, values of hepatic and muscular metabolic activities pyruvate kinase (PK), citrate synthase (CS), and hydroxiacil-CoA dehydrogenase (HOAD); glutamate pyruvate transaminase (GPT) and glutamate oxaloacetate transaminase (GOT) activities in plasma, liver, and muscle; glucose 6P dehydrogenase (G6PDH) activity in muscle; and oxidative stress in liver.High energy intake, adversely affected the hepatic activity of G6PDH, HOAD, GPT and oxidative stress in muscle.Consequently our results indicate that a combination of high culture density and a high level of dietary energy (27 MJ kg−1 in diet) exert a negative impact on the physiology and consequently on the welfare of the farmed fish.  相似文献

Sea bass (Dicentrarchus labrax) (135 ± 4 g) were reared under tank-based recirculating aquaculture system for a 63-day period at four densities: 10, 40, 70, 100 kg m?3. Fish performance, stress indicators (plasma cortisol, proteonemia plus other blood parameters—Na+, K+, glucose, pH, total CO2?) and water quality were monitored. At the end of the 63-day period, resistance to infection was also studied by a nodavirus challenge. A 25-day test was performed on fish from two extreme densities (10 and 100 kg m3) and one intermediate density (40 kg m3).With regards to the different density treatments, there was no significant difference between the daily feed intake (DFI) and the specific growth rate (SGR) up to a density of 70 kg m?3. No significant difference was found between treatments concerning the feed conversion ratio (FCR) and the mortality rate. No density effect was observed on the fish stress level (plasma cortisol) or on sensitivity to the nodavirus challenge. Under these experimental rearing conditions, the density above 70 kg m?3 has an impact on growth performance (DFI and SGR) indicators and also some blood parameters (CO2) at the highest density tested (100 kg m?3).This study suggests that a density up to 70 kg m?3 has no influence on sea bass performance and welfare. At 100 kg m?3, average specific growth rate was decreased by 14% without welfare deterioration according to the welfare indicators monitored.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of two methodologies of carbohydrate fertilization on the volume and characteristics of effluent from intensive biofloc shrimp cultivation. Six fiberglass circular tanks (50 m2 each) were divided into two treatments. In the treatment called continuous (CONT), the tanks received daily molasses fertilization throughout the entire rearing period. In the treatment named initial (INI), molasses was used only in the early weeks of cultivation. Juvenile Litopenaeus vannamei (0.87 ± 0.10 g) were stocked at a density of 180 animals m−2 and cultured during 12 weeks until they reached an average weight of 12 g. The tanks were operated with no water exchange and the total suspended solids concentration were kept between 300 and 400 mg L−1 using settling chambers. The sludge produced and the wastewater at harvest were quantified and their characteristics were determined. The production of TSS in the CONT treatment was higher (0.25 kg of solids per kg of applied feed) than in the INI treatment (0.16 kg kg−1) (P < 0.05). The analysis of the sludge revealed a high amount of volatile solids in both treatments, between 636 and 702 g kg−1. However, due to the elevated sludge nitrogen content, the carbon to nitrogen (C:N) ratio was low, with values of 6.4 ± 1.4 and 7.5 ± 1.6 for INI and CONT respectively. The BOD:TSS ratio was also low in both treatments, but the INI showed lower values (10.3 ± 0.6%) than the CONT (14.9 ± 0.0%) (P < 0.05). Both fertilization strategies were able to modify the characteristics of sludge produced during cultivation. Moreover, the high nitrogen and sulfate content of the sludge in both treatments indicated that it may be difficult to use an anaerobic digestion process to treat sludge. In the INI treatment tanks, the sludge is partially stabilized, while in the CONT there was a greater need for stabilization.  相似文献

The food grade agar in India has been almost exclusively obtained from Gracilaria edulis, but the industrial production overwhelmingly relies on exploitation of natural resources. United Nations efforts through Food and Agriculture Organization under Bay of Bengal Program highlighted the necessity of undertaking commercial farming of this species along Indian coast for socio-economic benefits. The pilot-scale experiments established viability of large-scale cultivation by floating raft method. Nevertheless, drastic reduction in yield and quality during summer months due to enhanced sedimentation and severe epiphytism is found to be a major hindrance. Altering the positioning of rafts from horizontal to vertical alignment improved the growth and yield under open sea condition at two different locations along south east coast of India. The average yield in horizontal raft was found to be 3.08 ± 0.61 kg fr wt raft−1 with corresponding DGR of 1.87 ± 0.63% day−1 while same in case of vertical rafts was 13.76 ± 3.86 kg fr wt raft−1 and 5.00 ± 0.5% day−1 in Gulf of Mannar under 45 days growth cycle. The corresponding values along Palk Bay were 2.98 ± 0.52 g fr wt raft−1 and 1.38 ± 0.42% day−1 for horizontal raft and 13.02 ± 6.06 kg fr wt raft−1 and 4.14 ± 1.18% day−1 for vertical raft. ANOVA clearly indicated that raft position significantly influenced the biomass yield and DGR at Palk Bay (F = 75.77; F = 112.81) as well as Gulf of Mannar (F = 27.21; F = 59.16) at p = 0.001. The increment of 1.9–2.6% in fresh weight of individual frond was reported in vertically aligned rafts. The computational fluid dynamics (CFD) based unsteady numerical simulations have confirmed that vertical alignment of raft facilitates relatively free movement of water due to which sedimentation and epiphytism are either minimised or eliminated. Thus these studies can help us to deduce important conclusions pertaining to management of sustained commercial cultivation of this alga in Indian waters.  相似文献

Basic data describing the physical characteristics of fish fecal waste are important in the design of effective solid waste management in aquaculture, especially in land-based facilities such as recirculating aquacultural systems (RAS).This study describes the physical properties of feces from rainbow trout fed eight different commercially available and widely used diets in Germany. Additional data from an earlier but unpublished study pertaining to feces derived from two rather extreme all-vegetarian diets are also presented for consideration of the settling properties. The diets were tested on duplicate groups of 50 rainbow trout in a flow-through aquaculture system. The effects of the diets on the physical properties of fecal particles such as particle size distribution (PSD), modeled settling velocity and rheological character were examined and the effects of each diet on fish health, growth and feed utilization were determined. Specific growth rate (SGR) and feed conversion ratio (FCR) for the different diets ranged from 0.98% d−1 ± 0.012% d−1 to 1.39% d−1 ± 0.012% d−1 and 0.97 ± 0.017 to 1.61 ± 0.017 (mean ± S.E.), respectively. The density of presoaked feces was significantly lower than that of intestinal feces and ranged from 1.01013 ± 0.00692 g cm−3 to 1.04547 ± 0.00692 g cm−3 (mean ± S.E.). Stability data were in the range from 390.12 ± 29.4 Pa to 1214.79 ± 29.0 Pa for elastic modulus and from 62.12 ± 6.1 Pa s to 232.68 ± 6.0 Pa s for dynamic viscosity. Based on the stability and PSD data theoretical efficiencies for removal of fecal waste using a drum filter showed remarkable variation, ranging from 82.5 to 95.9% (60 μm gauze). Based on the same data, theoretical removal by a sedimentation basin with routinely using overflow rates of 0.057 cm s−1 to 0.394 cm s−1 ranged from 62.8 to 93.8%. Both fecal density and PSD have an exponential impact on settling performance. Increasing fecal density improves the removal efficiency of a sedimentation basin by about 20%, however sedimentation was seen to be a less robust and efficient removal technique than drum filtration. Sedimentation systems also experience additional problems with respect to leaching. Turbulence that was mimicked in this study reflects to an optimal fish farm, which means disintegrating effects are mainly caused by fish motion. If disintegrating units e.g. pumps are used, which are known to promote further particle breakdown the effects would be amplified. The results demonstrate the central importance of density of suspended solids in defining removal efficiencies and suggest that manipulation of fecal density might offer a new and effective means of managing and optimizing waste output from aquaculture operations. This study describes the basic properties of fecal wastes generated by commercial diets and can be used as a basis for further research.  相似文献

Micro-screen rotating drum filters are an alternative to sand filtration especially when excessive waste water is a concern. The filtering process of drum screen filters is very simple, yet very efficient and reliable due to their overall design and operation. Drum filters are designed with few moving parts to ensure a long life with low operating/maintenance costs.Micro-screening essentially captures particles on a screen fabric while letting the water pass. This paper describes a design of two an industrial-scale drum screen filters driven by undershot wheel and its performance installed in recirculating aquaculture system culturing tilapia at El-Nenaeia fish farm. These filters are consisted of a woven metal mesh of 100 μm. The design criteria for solids loading rate in the influent water is 10 kg m−2 min−1.The results indicate that the design parameters of the filter such as surface are and rotation speed were affected by the water flow rate, where the surface area and drum speed ranged from 1.58 to 27.87 m2, and 1.05 to 8.40, respectively. The results also indicated that the efficiency of filter decreased during the first two months compared to the last two months of fish growth period, with an average 34.22 ± 8.85% during the first 60 days and an average 52.41 ± 16.77% during the last period. Using water wheels for driving the screen filter is very important in saving energy, where the filter with such dimensions needs 1.0 hp for driving it, which represents 18.0 kW daily.  相似文献

Leakage of water soluble nutrients from larval microparticulated feeds is probably extensive and needs to be further investigated. Leaching rates of 14C-labelled serine, pepsin hydrolysed, protein enriched 14C-algae extract and intact protein enriched 14C-algae extract were measured from three microparticulated feeds for marine fish larvae (heat coagulated, protein bond feed; agglomerated feed; protein encapsulated feed). The effects of particle size (< 0.3 mm, 0.3–0.6 mm; 0.6–1.0 mm) and immersion time (1–60 min) in salt water were also tested. Leaching increased by decreasing molecular weight of leaching component (P < 10 5), by the feeds in order encapsulated, heat coagulated and agglomerated feeds (P < 10 5), by longer immersion time (P < 10 5), and by decreasing feed particle size (P < 10 5). Due to low protein content of the algae extract, the leaching rates of intact and hydrolysed algae extract did not represent absolute estimates for protein and hydrolysed protein leaching. A new estimate for leakage of hydrolysed protein was calculated based on molecular weight distribution of the hydrolysed algae extract analysed by cutoff centrifugation of the extract. Assuming that molecules < 300–600 or < 9–18 kD would leak, leakage of hydrolysed protein from the smallest feed particles after 5 min immersion would be 80–98%, 43–54% and 4–6% of the agglomerated, heat coagulated and protein encapsulated feeds, respectively. The feeds were also tested for preference in cod larvae of two different sizes (5.6 ± 2.5 mg and 15.8 ± 7.2 mg). The preference was highest for the heat coagulated feed in the first experiment (feed intake 0.32 ± 0.06 mg dry feed larvae 1) and the agglomerated in the second (2.04 ± 0.32 mg dry feed larvae 1), while the protein encapsulated feed was preferred at lower rates in both experiments (0.11–0.14 mg dry feed larvae 1).  相似文献

Levels of glucose, lactate, Na+, K+, Cl, protein, and oxyhemocyanin in the hemolymph and its osmolality were measured when the whiteleg shrimp (Litopenaeus vanammei; 20 ± 1.5 g), were individually injected with saline or dopamine at 10 8, 10 7, or 10 6 mol shrimp 1. Results showed that elevations of hemolymph glucose and lactate occurred at between 2 and 4 h, increases in hemolymph osmolality, Cl, Na+, and total protein occurred at 2 h, and a reduction in hemolymph oxyhemocyanin occurred at 4 h after the dopamine injection. All physiological parameters except K+ had returned to the control values 8–16 h after receiving the dopamine. The injection of dopamine also significantly decreased the oxyhemocyanin/protein ratio of L. vannamei at 2 h as a result of the elevation of hemolymph protein. These results suggest that stress-inducing dopamine causes a transient period of modulation of energy metabolism, osmoregulation, and a respiratory response in L. vannamei in adapting to an environmental stress.  相似文献

In this work, the practical application of a low-pressure hydrocyclone was examined for feed waste and fecal solid removal for common carp (27 ± 3.1 g, average ± SD) and Nile tilapia (33 ± 3.4 g, average ± SD) in a recirculating aquaculture system. The dimensions of the low-pressure hydrocyclone included an inflow diameter of 30 mm, a cylinder length of 575 mm, an overflow diameter of 60 mm, an underflow diameter of 50 mm, a cylinder diameter of 335 mm and a cone angle of 68°. The different operating conditions tested were inflow rates of 400, 600, 800 and 1000 ml s−1, and underflow rates of 25%, 25%, 20% and 10% of the inflow rates, respectively. Feed waste totals of 4.1 to 4.8% and 3.6 to 4.0% of the feed intake were produced by the common carp and Nile tilapia, respectively. The maximum separation efficiency (Et) for the feed waste from the common carp was 71% at an inflow rate of 600 ml s−1 with an underflow rate of 25% of the inflow rate. The maximum separation efficiency for the feed waste from the tilapia was 59% at an inflow rate of 400 ml s−1 with an underflow rate of 25% of the inflow rate. The fecal solid production estimated from the digestibility was 37.9% and 35.7% of the feed intake for the common carp and Nile tilapia, respectively. The maximum separation efficiency for the feces from the common carp was 60% for an inflow rate of 600 ml s−1 and an underflow rate of 25% of the inflow rate. The maximum separation efficiency for the tilapia feces was 63% at an inflow of 400 ml s−1 with an underflow rate of 25% of the inflow rate. The low-pressure hydrocyclone can be adopted for prefiltration and/or post-filtration for the removal of various sized solids. Furthermore, the solids separated from the underflow can be easily removed for further processing.  相似文献

The pelagic thresher shark, Alopias pelagicus, is a cosmopolitan species and abundant in Taiwan waters. Some of its biological information has been documented yet its population dynamics are poorly known. The purpose of this study is to assess the pelagic thresher shark stock status in the eastern Taiwan waters. The whole weights (W) of 51,748 individuals of the pelagic thresher shark landed at Nanfanao and Chengkung fish markets, eastern Taiwan from 1990 to 2004 were converted to precaudal length (PCL) based on the W–PCL relationship (W = 2.25 × 10−4 × PCL2.533, n = 2165). The sexes combined VBGE Lt = 189.5 × (1  e−0.10(t+6.47)) was used to estimate the age for each length group. Total mortality rates (Z) obtained with length-converted catch curves ranged from 0.208 to 0.277 year−1. Natural mortality rate (M) estimated from Hoenig method was 0.132 year−1, and exploitation rate (E) ranged from 0.069 to 0.127 for 1990–2004. Annual abundance was estimated to range from 97,551 in 2000 to 153,331 in 2003 from virtual population analysis, and the highest fishing mortality occurred in ages 8–18 years. There were four different scenarios being simulated in this study. Scenario 1 indicated that spawning per recruit (SPR) ranged from 23.07% in 2001 to 47.71% in 1990 with a mean of 36.41% for the period of 1990–2004. The mean SPR of pelagic thresher for 1990–2004 was below the BRP of SPR = 35% in scenarios 2–4 suggesting that this stock was slightly overexploited. Therefore, to ensure sustainable utilization of this stock, reduction of fishing effort and close monitoring on A. pelagicus are needed.  相似文献

A dynamic stock model was used for quantification of shrimp production and analysis of alternative management schemes of stocking density, pond size, starting time of aeration, and duration of cultivation for intensive commercial production of the shrimp Litopenaeus vannamei. Databases from Mexican farms were used to calibrate the model. Multiple linear regression models were employed to establish relationships between parameters of the stock model and the management variables. Water quality variables (dissolved oxygen, temperature, and salinity) were complementarily analyzed. The final weight of shrimp was directly related to duration of cultivation and dissolved oxygen, and inversely related to stocking density, pond size, and salinity. There were inverse relationships between the growth coefficient and temperature and dissolved oxygen and between mortality rate and temperature. Dissolved oxygen was significantly related to starting time of aeration. Simple linear regression and an equivalence test indicated that biomass at harvest (after 13 weeks in winter, and 20 weeks in summer) was adequately predicted by using the stock model and the multiple regression models. The highest production (winter, 6900 kg ha−1; summer, 12,600 kg ha−1) were predicted using 60 postlarvae m−2, small ponds (2 ha), and starting aeration at the first week of cultivation; while the lowest yields (winter, 2600 kg ha−1; summer, 6000 kg ha−1) were obtained using 40 postlarvae m−2, large ponds (8 ha), and delaying the start of aeration until the fifth week of cultivation. The lowest production was 38% (winter) and 48% (summer) of the highest yield. Using small ponds could be particularly important during winter cycles to increase production, while stocking density and starting time of aeration contributed less. In contrast, pond size played a minor role during summer cycles and stocking density was the most sensitive variable.  相似文献

Some benthic cephalopods are considered potential candidates to diversify marine aquaculture, as they show fast growth and high market price. Most research on cephalopod culture is currently focusing on the development of specific enrichments and compound feeds, while little research has been conducted in order to test new rearing systems for cephalopods. The rigid characteristic of the floating cages commonly used for the ongrowing of Octopus vulgaris has restricted their use to calm water conditions (estuaries and harbors). Such sites are scarce and highly demanded, especially by the tourism industry; therefore the development of O. vulgaris grow out at these locations competes with touristic interests. The present study was set to compare the biological performance of O. vulgaris reared in a benthic cage (2 m2) as opposed to the traditional floating cage (2.5 m2), during two ongrowing trials. Initial rearing density was 10 kg m−3 and octopuses (892 ± 125 g) were fed on bogue Boops boops, discarded from fish farms, for 60–67 days. High growth (1.8–1.9% day−1) and high survival (91–97%) were observed, regardless of the rearing system, and led to best biomass increment (178–212%) and food conversion rates (2.3–2.6) ever recorded for O. vulgaris under industrial rearing conditions. These results underline the adequacy of the benthic cage for the ongrowing of this species, and also the potential of aquaculture discarded fishes, particularly bogue, as a single diet for this species. High growth rates obtained and the high lipid content of bogue (44% dry weight) suggest efficient lipid utilization in this species. Proximate composition and fatty acid profile in octopus muscle was not affected by the rearing system. High dietary lipid content was not reflected in muscle proximate composition, which showed high protein (87% dw) and low lipid content (5% dw) by the end of the experimental period. Farmed octopus showed high levels of n-3 HUFA (42%), which should enhance its value for the consumers.  相似文献

Due to water turbidity, fish stress might be difficult to observe. Evaluation of fish stress by blood sampling requires removing a fish from the water, which is in itself a stressful event. Therefore, we designed and built a sensor to detect fish behaviour that reflects stress. The electronic sensor detected early signs of fish stress by scoring the fish's inactivity. LEDs and detectors are embedded on a steel wand that is held underwater by an operator. In this preliminary (feasibility) study, the new sensor was validated for Tilapia (Cichlidae) and Hybrid Striped Bass (Morone). We induced stressful situations in the fish tanks by manipulating oxygen and temperature levels.ResultsLowering the temperature and oxygen levels both significantly increased the average number of signals identified by the sensor, which indicate stress. The effect of reducing water temperature from 24 °C to 15 °C was three times stronger than was the effect of lowering the oxygen saturation level from 85% to 50%. The difference in the number of signals between the good and stressful conditions was statistically significant, amounting to approximately eight sensor signals, 10.57 compared to 2.49 respectively. Lowering the temperature increased the mean number of signals by 5.85 and 6.06 at 85% and 50% oxygen saturation respectively, whereas lowering oxygen levels increased the mean number of signals by 2.02 and 2.23 at 24 °C and 15 °C, respectively. The results indicate that the stress status of cultured fish can be evaluated using the proposed behavioural sensor. The new sensor may provide an earlier indication of a problem in a fish tank or pond than was heretofore possible. This early warning can enable the fish farmer to take action before many fish are harmed.  相似文献

The objective of this study was to compare fish performance and welfare at different stocking densities in a recirculating system (RS) and a flow through system (FTS) under field conditions. During the 77 days experiment, the fish survival rate was high (99.3%) and stocking density increased from 57 to 98–108 kg m?3. No significant differences in growth were observed between RS and FTS until day 56. Later, growth decreased in the FTS, while it remained similar to the farm reference at 50 kg m?3 in the RS. Final weight was 17% higher in RS than in FTS. The maximum carrying capacity of the RS was near 100 kg m?3, limited by NO2 increase up to safe level at the end of the experiment, the maximum carrying capacity of the FTS was near 85 kg m?3, probably limited by CO2 concentration (17.8 ± 5.7 mg l?1). In the RS, the relative length index of pectoral and dorsal fins was lower than in the FTS, which may be attributed to the tank hydrodynamics. In both systems, an improvement of the pectoral and dorsal profile was observed at the end of the experiment, attributed to a swimming activity reduction that may have decreased contact between individuals. In the RS, high caudal fin deterioration (50% versus 20% in FTS) was observed irrespective of stocking density, that could be linked to the highest water velocity modifying the fish swimming activity. The results confirm that when water quality is maintained in safe level ranges, high densities can be used in trout RS without fish performance and pectoral or dorsal fin deterioration, but with a major caudal impairment.  相似文献

A study was undertaken to measure the water flow (Qw) delivered by a vacuum airlift designed for recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS) in fresh (<1‰ of salinity) and sea water (35‰ of salinity). The vacuum airlift consists of two concentric tubes connected at their top to a depression chamber. The water rises in the inner tube as a result of air being injected in its lower section and flows back through the external downcomer tube. The vacuum airlift was adjusted at three different lengths: 2, 4 or 6 m and water discharge could be lifted from 0 to 30 cm. Air flow rate (Qg) varied from 0 to 80 L min−1. Different types of air injectors were tested, delivering different bubble sizes (0.1–5 mm) depending on porosity and functioning at low or high injection pressure. Results show an increase in water flow when pipe length and air flow were increased and lift height reduced. Water flow also depended on the type of water and ranged from 0 to 35 m3 h−1 (0–580 L min−1) for fresh water and only from 0 to 20 m3 h−1 (0–330 L min−1) for sea water (for a 6 m high vacuum airlift). This difference was attributed to the smaller bubble diameter and higher gas holdup (ɛg) observed in sea water (0–20%) compared to fresh water (0–10%). When bubbles were present in the downcomer tube, they created a resistance to flow (counter-current airlift) that slowed down liquid velocity and thus water flow. Increasing the vacuum made it possible to use low air injection pressures and high injection depths. Vacuum also increased bubble size and airflow (20 L min−1 at atmospheric pressure to 60 L min−1 at 0.3 barA) and thus water flow rates. With RAS, the presence of fish feed in water rapidly increased water flow delivered by the airlift because of changes of water quality and gas holdup. When working with low head RAS (under 0.3 m), vacuum airlift could save up to 50% of the energy required for centrifugal pumps. An empirical predictive model was developed and calibrated. Simulation shows a good correlation between predicted values and measurements (R2 = 0.96).  相似文献

A new physico-chemical process for ammonia removal from fresh-water recirculated aquaculture systems (RASs) is introduced. The method is based on separating NH4+ from RAS water through an ion-exchange resin, which is subsequently regenerated by simultaneous chemical desorption and indirect electrochemical ammonia oxidation. Approach advantages include (1) only slight temperature dependence and no dependence on bacterial predators and chemical toxins; (2) no startup period is required and the system can be switched on and off at will; and (3) the fish are grown in much lower bacterial concentration, making the potential for both disease and off-flavor, lower. A small pilot scale RAS was operated for 51 d for proving the concept. The system was stocked by 105 tilapia fish (initial weight 35.8 g). The fish, which were maintained at high TAN (total ammonia nitrogen) concentrations (10–23 mgN L−1) and fish density of up to 20 kg m−3, grew at a rate identical to their established growth potential. NH3(aq) concentrations in the fish tank were maintained lower than the assumed toxicity threshold (0.1 mgN L−1) by operating the pond water at low pH (6.5–6.7). The low pH resulted in efficient CO2 air stripping, and low resultant CO2(aq) concentrations (<7 mg L−1). Due to efficient solids removal, no nitrification was observed in the fish tank and measured nitrite and nitrate concentrations were very low. The system was operated successfully, first at 10% and then at 5% daily makeup water exchange rate. The normalized operational costs, calculated based on data derived from the pilot operation, amounted to 28.7 $ cent per kg fish feed. The volume of the proposed process was calculated to be ∼13 times smaller than that of a typical RAS biofilter. The results show the process to be highly feasible from both the operational and economical standpoints.  相似文献

The life history of an increasingly important pelagic commercial and sport fish, the Talang queenfish, Scomberoides commersonnianus, was studied in northern Australia to investigate the stock status and assess current management of the species using minimum legal lengths (MLL). Estimated von Bertalanffy growth parameters were L = 1404 mm FL, K = 0.10 year−1 and t0 = −1.21 year−1. There was no significant difference in growth between sexes. Ages ranged from 1 to 11 years with age composition differing between the commercial (mainly 6–7 years) and sport fishery (mainly 2–4 years). Females matured (L50) at 635 mm FL and 4–5 years. Spawning occurred between August and March when mature females were estimated to produce 259,488–2,859,935 eggs per spawning. Natural mortality (M) was estimated as 0.16–0.26 year−1, while the combined fishing mortality (Fcurrent) from commercial and sport fisheries was 0.38–0.48 year−1. Yield-per-recruit analyses revealed that under current MLL limits (no MLL or 45 cm TL) and natural mortality (M = 0.16, 0.2 and 0.26 year−1), Fcurrent exceeded the reference points Fmax (0.15–0.22 year−1) and F0.1 (0.10–0.15 year−1), suggesting the stock may be growth overfished if the current situation remains unchanged. Although a stock–recruitment relationship is unknown, spawning stock biomass-per-recruit analysis indicates the stock may also be recruitment overfished since Fcurrent exceeded the reference points F25% (0.19–0.24 year−1) and F40% (0.11–0.15 year−1). Increasing the MLL corresponding to L50 of females (70 cm TL) will greatly improve the yield and long-term sustainability of the stock, and also enhance the sport fishery by increasing the number of larger trophy fish.  相似文献

Striped trumpeter have a complex and extended larval phase and are difficult to culture. Two experiments were conducted in replicated, 300-l hemispherical tanks to determine if larval survival, growth, bacterial or fatty acid profile were improved by feeding non-enriched rotifers or rotifers enriched with algae or commercially available products, as well as the effect of an antibiotic, oxytetracycline (OTC). Larvae were stocked at 25 l 1 and 15 l 1 and reared until Day 16 and Day 19 in Experiments 1 and 2, respectively. In Experiment 1, the feeding treatments were non-enriched rotifers, or rotifers enriched on algae, DHA Selco (a fish oil based emulsion) or RotiMac (dried Schizochytrium). There were no significant differences in mean survival (± SD) across treatments, which were generally low at 14.6 ± 5.2%. Larvae reared on rotifers fed DHA Selco and RotiMac, had significantly higher proportions of incorporated DHA but no significant increase in growth. In Experiment 2, larvae were fed rotifers enriched on DHA Selco or AlgaMac 2000 and reared with or without the daily addition of 25 mg l 1 OTC. At Day 19, there was significantly higher survival for larvae reared on AlgaMac 2000 and OTC, (37.4 ± 5.6%), than DHA Selco and OTC, (16.0 ± 7.4%), AlgaMac 2000 without OTC (7.0 ± 8.0) and DHA Selco without OTC (3.3 ± 1.2). Larvae reared with OTC were larger (279 ± 58 μg and 7.4 ± 0.2 mm) than without OTC (177 ± 40 μg and 6.3 ± 0.2 mm). The addition of antibiotics did not significantly influence fatty acid profiles of larvae. There were no significant differences in the percentage of DHA, 27.6 ± 2.8%, EPA 4.6 ± 1.0% or ARA 4.9 ± 0.4%. Larvae reared with OTC had significantly less ‘grey gut’ (a measure of intestinal dysfunction). The results indicated that bacterial infection was a major source of mortality in striped trumpeter larvae and compromised larval growth. Assessment of the bacterial flora indicated that antibiotic use reduced the bacterial load, but did not eliminate potential pathogens. Our study suggests that microbial control has a greater influence than lipid nutrition on the survival and growth of larvae during the rotifer feeding stage.  相似文献

A 20-week feeding trial was carried out to investigate the influence of three palm oil products as the principal dietary lipid source on the growth performance, proximate composition, tissue fatty acid composition and nutrient digestibility of red hybrid tilapia (Oreochromis sp.) fed these diets from stocking to marketable size. Four isonitrogenous (30% crude protein) and isoenergetic (16.5 kJ g 1) practical diets were formulated with 8% of added fish oil (FO), crude palm oil (CPO), palm fatty acid distillate (PFAD) or refined, bleached and deodorized palm olein (RBDPO), respectively. Each diet was fed to triplicate groups of 30 fish of 31.24 ± 0.05 g mean initial body weight. The tilapia were raised at 29 ± 1 °C in 12 round 1000 L fiberglass tanks with a continuous water flow rate of about 1.8 L/min.Results showed that the source of added lipid did not significantly influence (P > 0.05) final body weight, specific growth rate, feed conversion ratio, survival, body indices, hematocrit and production yield of tilapia. There was no significant difference in the fillet proximate composition of fish fed the various diets, except that fish fed the PFAD diet showed lower lipid deposition. The deposition of fatty acids in fish tissues was generally influenced by the fatty acid profile of the diets. Fillet fatty acid profiles of tilapia fed palm oil-based diets had significantly higher concentrations of saturated and monounsaturated fatty acids, but lower levels of polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) compared to the fish fed the FO diet. Fillet of fish fed the FO diet had significantly higher concentrations of EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) compared with fish fed palm oil-based diets. Dietary lipid source did not significantly affect dry matter and protein digestibility (62.1–64.8% and 83.5–85.0%, respectively). The inclusion of dietary palm-origin oils significantly reduced the total lipid digestibility of the diets due mainly to the decreased digestibility of the saturated fatty acids. In all treatments, the apparent digestibilities of both n  3 and n  6 PUFA were the highest, followed by monoenes, while the lowest were the saturated fatty acids. Despite the high free fatty acid content of PFAD (92.2%) compared to CPO (4.8%) and RBDPO (0.1%), the different free fatty acid content did not significantly affect the nutrient digestibility of the palm oil-based diets. Results obtained confirmed the feasibility of feeding tilapia with palm oil-based diets with a 100% substitution of added dietary fish oil throughout the grow-out cycle until marketable size.  相似文献
