The U.S. Army Master Resilience Trainer (MRT) course, which provides face-to-face resilience training, is one of the foundational pillars of the Comprehensive Soldier Fitness program. The 10-day MRT course is the foundation for training resilience skills to sergeants and for teaching sergeants how to teach these skills to their soldiers. The curriculum is based on materials developed by the University of Pennsylvania, the Penn Resilience Program (PRP), and other empirically validated work in the field of positive psychology. This “train the trainer model” is the main vehicle for the dissemination of MRT concepts to the entire force. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2010 APA, all rights reserved)  相似文献

K. Warner Schaie is cited for enlarging our conception of developmental psychology to include the entire life span and for outstanding empirical contributions to the study of adult development and aging. As a developmental methodologist, Schaie's creative formulation of cohort-sequential longitudinal designs has inspired a new approach to the study of the dynamics between ontogenetic development and cultural (cohort) change. As a theoretician and researcher, he has made a landmark contribution to our understanding of the conditions that determine and surround the variations in the nature of aging. Along with the citation, a biography is presented for Schaie, as well as a bibliography of his work. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2010 APA, all rights reserved)  相似文献

Psychology, Public Policy, and Law focuses on the links between psychology as a science, relevant information derived from related disciplines as sciences, and public policy and law. It will publish articles that (1) critically evaluate the actual and potential contributions of psychology to public policy and legal issues, (2) assess the desirability of different public policy and legal alternatives in light of the scientific knowledge base in psychology, (3) articulate research needs that address public policy and legal issues for which there is currently insufficient theoretical and empirical knowledge, and (4) examine public policy and legal issues relating to the conduct of psychology and of related disciplines where relevant to psychology. The goals for the journal are to (1) provide a multidisciplinary forum for scholarship and interchange relevant to the mission of the journal, (2) provide a forum for the publications of comprehensive, scholarly articles that critically consider theoretical, conceptual, and doctrinal issues or that critically review the literature on topics relevant to the mission of the journal, and (3) provide a forum for the publication of comprehensive, scholarly articles that report the results of programs of research or large-scale empirical studies relevant to the mission of the journal. This particular issue provides a forum for critical discussion of the implications of using a social science amicus brief in court cases. It also demonstrates the opportunity that this journal will provide to social scientists to critically evaluate their colleagues' work when those colleagues attempt to offer their science and opinions in the legal or public policy arenas. Finally, this issue reflects the journal's desire to be a flexible forum for scholarly interchange. Rather than always publishing articles that are relatively independent of each other, the journal will also publish issues devoted to a single theme (as occurred in the first issue of this volume), and, as in the case of this issue, to interchange about one theme when it is appropriate for advancing the field. Objective: Intimate partner violence (IPV) is a serious health concern, but little is known about prevalence of IPV in the armed forces, as military members cope with the pressures of long-standing operations. Furthermore, previous prevalence studies have been plagued by definitional issues; most studies have focused on acts of aggression without consideration of impact (clinically significant [CS] IPV). This is the first large-scale study to examine prevalences of IPV, CS-IPV, and clinically significant emotional abuse (CS-EA) for men and women. Method: A United States Air Force-wide anonymous survey was administered across 82 bases in 2006 (N = 42,744) to assess IPV, CS-IPV, and CS-EA. Results: The adjusted prevalence of CS-IPV perpetration was 4.66% for men and 3.54% for women. Prevalences of IPV perpetration were 12.90% for men and 15.14% for women. CS-EA victimization was 6.00% for men and 8.50% for women. Sociodemographic differences in risk for violence were found for gender, race/ethnicity, pay grade, religious faith, marital status, and career type even after controlling for other demographic variables. Conclusions: Partner maltreatment is widespread in military (and civilian) samples. Men were more likely to perpetrate CS-IPV, whereas women were more likely to perpetrate IPV. Specific demographic risk factors were identified for different types of partner maltreatment (e.g., lower rank predicted higher risk for both perpetration and victimization across men and women). Other sociodemographic differences varied across severity (IPV vs. CS-IPV) and across gender. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2011 APA, all rights reserved)  相似文献

The purpose of my writing this essay is to familiarize readers with an interesting projective device called the O.R.T. (the Object Relations Technique), which has been described by James Grotstein as “an innovative and unique descendent of the heritage of projective testing on one hand and of projective aspects of psychoanalytic clinical technique on the other (1993, pp. 1).” It is an objectified (operationalized) method for the assessment of an individual’s actual, underlying models for relationship that has been employed primarily as a clinical therapeutic tool. Its history is as interesting as the technique itself. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2010 APA, all rights reserved)  相似文献

Spitz (see 30: 5830) is commended for providing clinical hunches and hypotheses, including his use of statistical materials, but it is claimed nevertheless that Spitz's conclusions are not warranted by the data reported. Perhaps the uncritical acceptance of Spitz's research is the fault of those who have acclaimed his work, rather than that of Spitz himself. Larry R. Squire.
Larry R. Squire receives an award for his seminal and decisive studies on the brain substrates of declarative memory in humans and monkeys. His work is virtually unique in that he identified regions of the brain that appeared critical for anterograde amnesia in humans with brain damage and analyzed the roles of these brain regions in elegant experimental studies in monkeys. This article contains a citation and a biography of Larry R. Squire. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2010 APA, all rights reserved)  相似文献

Robert W. Goy.
Acknowledges Robert W. Goy for his contributions to the understanding of the complex and reciprocal relations between hormones and behavior. Working first with rodents and then with monkeys, he provided excellent animal models for the exegesis of sexual differentiation in humans. He and his students formulated balanced views of the advantages and limitations of monkey studies for understanding related processes in people. A citation, biography, and selected bibliography of Goy's work are provided. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2010 APA, all rights reserved)  相似文献

This issue, like most law reviews and social science journals, presents articles that were unsolicited and are unrelated. The first article, using the U.S. Supreme Court decision in Foucha v. Louisiana as the vehicle, critically explores how mental illness should be defined for various legal purposes and argues the need for the application of a new constitutional principle to limit state power to involuntary hospitalize—therapeutic appropriateness. The second article then considers the U.S. Supreme Court's social science analyses in two juvenile death penalty cases, demonstrates that the Court's approach is in error, and presents an alternate analysis that the author asserts the Court should be using. The issue concludes with an article that focuses on the potential harmfulness that may result to society from censorship of sexually explicit material.
