In this paper, exergy method is applied to analyze the gas turbine cycle cogeneration with inlet air cooling and evaporative aftercooling of the compressor discharge. The exergy destruction rate in each component of cogeneration is evaluated in detail. The effects of some main parameters on the exergy destruction and exergy efficiency of the cycle are investigated. The most significant exergy destruction rates in the cycle are in combustion chamber, heat recovery steam generator and regenerative heat exchanger. The overall pressure ratio and turbine inlet temperature have significant effect on exergy destruction in most of the components of cogeneration. The results obtained from the analysis show that inlet air cooling along with evaporative aftercooling has an obvious increase in the energy and exergy efficiency compared to the basic gas turbine cycle cogeneration. It is further shown that the first-law efficiency, power to heat ratio and exergy efficiency of the cogeneration cycle significantly vary with the change in overall pressure ratio and turbine inlet temperature but the change in process heat pressure shows small variation in these parameters.  相似文献

An integrated process of biomass gasification and solid oxide fuel cells (SOFC) is investigated using energy and exergy analyses. The performance of the system is assessed by calculating several parameters such as electrical efficiency, combined heat and power efficiency, power to heat ratio, exergy destruction ratio, and exergy efficiency. A performance comparison of power systems for different gasification agents is given by thermodynamic analysis. Exergy analysis is applied to investigate exergy destruction in components in the power systems. When using oxygen-enriched air as gasification agent, the gasifier reactor causes the greatest exergy destruction. About 29% of the chemical energy of the biomass is converted into net electric power, while about 17% of it is used to for producing hot water for district heating purposes. The total exergy efficiency of combined heat and power is 29%. For the case in which steam as the gasification agent, the highest exergy destruction lies in the air preheater due to the great temperature difference between the hot and cold side. The net electrical efficiency is about 40%. The exergy combined heat and power efficiency is above 36%, which is higher than that when air or oxygen-enriched air as gasification agent.  相似文献

Exergy analysis of a binary geothermal power plant is performed using actual plant data to assess the plant performance and pinpoint sites of primary exergy destruction. Exergy destruction throughout the plant is quantified and illustrated using an exergy diagram, and compared to the energy diagram. The sites with greater exergy destructions include brine reinjection, heat exchanger and condenser losses. Exergetic efficiencies of major plant components are determined in an attempt to assess their individual performances. The energy and exergy efficiencies of the plant are 4.5% and 21.7%, respectively, based on the energy and exergy of geothermal water at the heat exchanger inlet. The energy and exergy efficiencies are 10.2% and 33.5%, respectively, based on the heat input and exergy input to the binary Rankine cycle. The effects of turbine inlet pressure and temperature and the condenser pressure on the exergy and energy efficiencies, the net power output and the brine reinjection temperature are investigated and the trends are explained.  相似文献

Air-based precooling methods including room cooling and forced-air cooling were traditionally used for postharvest horticultural products. In this study, disturbed-air cooling with different layouts was proposed for the trade-off between room cooling with long cooling time and forced-air cooling with high energy consumption. Lab-scale experiments with 30 bins of postharvest apples were conducted using the aforementioned methods to measure the temperature history. Multiscale thermodynamic analyses from energy, entropy, exergy, and entransy perspectives were then performed. The time evolution of transient quantities and overall comparison of the trade-off performances were further discussed. The ventilation power and transformed heat became more significant respectively for the total energy consumption and heat load during the precooling processes. The rates of entropy generation, exergy destruction, and entransy dissipation reduced in consistent with the tendency of heat rejection from all bins. The major part of these losses was resulted by the ventilation for convective heat transfer between cold air and apples and became more significant during later stage of precooling processes. The middle-parallel disturbed-air cooling achieved the best trade-off between the lowest energy consumption for room cooling and the lowest maximum seven-eighths cooling time for forced-air cooling by respectively reaching 81.68% and 28.82% of the optimization potential. The best trade-off between the lowest thermodynamic loss for room cooling and the lowest heat transfer ability loss for forced-air cooling was also achieved by this method with around 55% to 62% optimization of the coefficients of performance, around 83% optimization of the entropy generation ratio, around 58% to 62% optimization of the exergy destruction ratio, and around 36% optimization of the entransy dissipation ratio.  相似文献

Characteristics of wall-to-air heat transfer for a fully developed forced convection have been studied in a large rectangular packed duct with 160 cm heated length, 40 cm width, and for low bed equivalent diameter to particle diameter ratio. The separation distance between the top and bottom walls is 10 cm. A uniform heat flux is supplied at the top wall, while the bottom wall is insulated. Raschig rings in two and spherical packing in three sizes have been used in the air flow passage to investigate the enhancement of heat transfer due to packing. Temperature profiles for the steady and unsteady states have been measured. In modeling, the Ergun equation and energy equations are solved to calculate the temperature profile for the steady-state only. It has been found that the introduction of the packing into the air flow passage increases the wall-to-fluid heat transfer approximately three times compared with that of empty bed. This finding can enhance the rational use of energy from solar air heaters, chemical reactors, electronic cooling and many other engineering applications.  相似文献

In this paper, the mathematical and physical models governing the flow, mass and heat energy of moist have been set up for an evaporative natural draft cooling tower. The models consider the effect of non-spherical shape of water drops on the flow, heat and mass transfer. Experimental data has been adopted to validate the numerical scheme. Average difference between the measured and the predicted outlet water temperature is 0.26°C. Distributions of the velocity components of the moist air, density, pressure, enthalpy and moisture content, the water temperature and its mass flux have been predicted. The simulation shows that some recirculation exits under the lower edge of the shell, where the air enthalpy, temperature, humidity and moisture content are higher, but the density is lower. The simulation also proves that the main transfer processes take place in the fill region where the percentage of latent heat transfer is predicted as 83%. However, about 90% of the heat energy is transferred via evaporation in the rain region although the total heat transfer rate there is very small compared to the fill region. Hourly performance of a natural draft cooling tower under the meteorological condition of Singapore has also been predicted.  相似文献

A novel indirect evaporative chiller driven by outdoor dry air to produce cold water as the cooling source for air conditioning systems is introduced, and the principle and the structure of the chiller is presented. The cold water can be produced almost reversibly under ideal working conditions, with its temperature infinitely close to the dew point temperature of the inlet air. The key components of the chiller are an air cooler and a padding tower. To improve the heat transfer performance inside the chiller, a quasi-countercurrent air cooler was designed; a subsection linear method was used for the mathematical model of the padding tower. The first indirect evaporative chiller, designed and developed in 2005, has been in use in Kairui Building, a big hotel in Shihezi, Xinjiang Autonomous Region. The tested temperature of the water produced is below the wet bulb temperature of outdoor air and reached the average value of the dew point temperature and the wet bulb temperature of outdoor air. As the running components are only pumps and fans, the COP (cooling energy for room divided by power cost) of this chiller is high, and the drier the outdoor air, the higher COP the chiller obtained. Since no CFCs are used in this chiller, it would not cause any pollution to the aerosphere. Finally, the application prospect of the indirect evaporative chiller in the world is presented.  相似文献

The Energy Tower concept is a renewable energy source suitable for dry and hot climates. It consists in cooling air by spraying water at the top of a tower approximately 1000 m high and thus creating a downdraft with a velocity of approximately 15 m/s. At the bottom of the tower the air goes through turbines and is subsequently exhausted through diffusers to the environment. In this work the influence of heat transfer from the droplets to the air is analyzed, the effect of coalescence being described using the O’Rourque model. It is shown that coalescence is substantial inside the tower and results in the droplets being an order of magnitude larger at the tower bottom and that there is a slight adverse effect on the energy performance, since evaporation from larger droplets is substantially less than from smaller droplets. In the case however that the water spray is a saline solution – which is the only possibility in view of unsalted water being as scarce a resource as energy – it makes it possible to keep the deposited salt inside the tower and the diffuser and in the immediate vicinity of the construction.  相似文献

A single-storey office building in a hot and dry climate is modelled for evaporative cooling. The counterflow cooling tower is modified to precool the tower inlet air by the tower exit air in a heat exchanger. Centralized evaporative air cooling, using the modified cooling tower, and roof evaporative cooling are considered to provide comfortable living conditions in the space. The thermal performance of such a building is analysed for various operating parameters. The study indicates that centralized evaporative air cooling is feasible, to maintain near-perfect comfort conditions in hot and dry climates. Modified cooling tower and roof evaporative cooling further enhance the scope of evaporative cooling for comfort applications.  相似文献

Simplified analytical models are developed for evaluating the thermal performance of closed‐wet cooling towers (CWCTs) for use with chilled ceilings in cooling of buildings. Two methods of simplification are used with regard to the temperature of spray water inside the tower. The results obtained from these models for a prototype cooling tower are very close to experimental measurements. The thermal performance of the cooling tower is evaluated under nominal conditions. The results show that the maximum difference in the calculated cooling water heat or air sensible heat between the two simplified methods and a general computational model is less than 3%. The analytical model distribution of the sensible heat along the tower is then incorporated with computational fluid dynamics (CFD) to assess the thermal performance of the tower. It is found that CFD results agree well with the analytical results when the air flow is simulated with air supply from the bottom of the tower, which represents a uniform air flow. CFD shows the importance of the uniform distribution of air and spray water to achieve optimum design. Copyright © 2002 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

Exergy analysis of heat pump—air conditioner systems has been carried out. The irreversibilities due to heat transfer and friction have been considered. The coefficient of performance based on the first law of thermodynamics as a function of various parameters, their optimum values, and the efficiency and coefficient of performance based on exergy analysis have been derived. Based on the exergy analysis, a simulation program has been developed to simulate and evaluate experimental systems. The simulation of a domestic heat pump—air conditioner of 959 W nominal power (Matsushita room air conditioner model CS-XG28M) is then carried out using experimental data. It is found that COP based on the first law varies from 7.40 to 3.85 and the exergy efficiency from 0.37 to 0.25 both a decreasing function of heating or cooling load. The exergy destructions in various components are determined for further study and improvement of its performance.  相似文献

A novel down-draft evaporative cool tower (DECT) was developed which incorporates a secondary air inlet and a complex longitudinal section that comprises two partly overlapping cones. The objective of this design is to conserve water while providing equal or superior cooling to conventional DECTs, in which dry ambient air is drawn in through a single inlet at the top and cooler moist air is delivered at the bottom. The complex section and the addition of a secondary air intake near the middle required a sophisticated water spraying system. In addition to maximizing the cooling potential, the spraying system was designed to limit spray drift beyond the base of the tower, to reduce maintenance costs (especially due to clogging of the sprayers) and to minimize pumping energy. Analysis shows that maximum cooling may be obtained either by employing a very fine spray, requiring the introduction of a relatively small volume of water, or by spraying a larger volume of coarser drops. However, spraying fine drops requires more pumping power, finer nozzles are more likely to clog and small drops of water aggravate the problem of drift near the tower base. If full evaporation of the water spray is not required and excess water is collected for reuse, the second option is thus preferable. In addition to the theoretical analysis, the paper presents experimental findings on temperature reduction, water consumption and cooling output of an 8-m high prototype tower constructed at Sede-Boqer, Israel.  相似文献

The principal objective of this study is to formulate a calculation process, based on the second law of exergy, for evaluating the thermoeconomic potential of a steam-turbine plant for trigeneration. The plant employs biomass, namely, waste wood as its energy source. Four different plant configurations are presented and assessed. ‘Their cost effectiveness is evaluated with varying economic and operating parameters’, because only the fuel price and electricity price are varied. In case 1, high pressure superheated steam generated is supplied to meet the demand for process heat as well as chilled water production in an absorption chiller. In cases 2 and 3, steam is extracted at appropriate stages of the turbine and supplied to meet the demand for process heat and chilled water production in an absorption chiller. Steam generated in case 2 produces sufficient power to meet internal demands while case 3 generates excess electricity for sale back to the utility. In case 4, low pressure saturated steam is generated to meet the demand for process heat and electricity is bought from the utilities, including those used to power an electric vapour-compression chiller. For all cases, it was found that exergy destruction is most extensive in the furnace, amounting to nearly 60%. Exergy destruction in the steam drum is the next most extensive ranging from 11% to 16%. It was also observed that the overall production cost decreases with steam pressure and increases with steam temperature.  相似文献

A theoretical analysis on the cooling enhancement by applying evaporative cooling to an air-cooled finned heat exchanger is presented in this work. A two-dimensional model on the heat and mass transfer in a finned channel is developed adopting a porous medium approach. Based on this model, the characteristics of the heat and mass transfer are investigated in a plate-fin heat exchanger with the interstitial surface fully covered by thin water film. Assuming that the Lewis number is unity and the water vapor saturation curve is linear, exact solutions to the energy and vapor concentration equations are obtained. The cooling effect with application of evaporative cooling was found to be improved considerably compared with that in the sensible cooler. This is because the thermal conductance between the fin and the air increases due to the latent heat transfer caused by the water evaporation from the fin surface. It is also found that the cooling enhancement depends greatly on the fin thickness. If the fin is not sufficiently thick, the cooling enhancement by the evaporative cooling decreases since the fin efficiency drops considerably due to the water evaporation from the fin surface. The fin thickness in the evaporative cooler should be increased larger than that in the sensible cooler to take full advantage of the cooling enhancement by the water evaporation.  相似文献

Transfer characteristic correlations given in the literature for wet-cooling tower fills are generally only a function of the air and water mass flow rates. This is a gross simplification of a very complex heat and mass transfer (evaporative cooling) process. In addition to the effects of the air and water mass flow rates, effects of the inlet water temperature, air drybulb temperature, wetbulb temperature, and fill height on the transfer characteristic, or Merkel number, are investigated in the present study. The accuracy of two different empirical equations is also evaluated. It is found that the transfer characteristic correlations for wet-cooling tower fills are functions of the inlet water temperature and fill height but not of the air drybulb and wetbulb temperatures.  相似文献

This study deals with a comprehensive efficiency investigation of a TEMA “E” shell and tube condenser through exergy efficiency as a potential parameter for performance assessment. Exergy analysis of condensation of pure vapor in a mixture of non-condensing gas in a TEMA “E” shell and tube condenser is presented. This analysis is used to evaluate both local exergy efficiency of the system (along the condensation path) and for the entire condenser, i.e., overall exergy efficiency. The numerical results for an industrial condenser with a steam–air mixture and cooling water as working fluids indicate significant effects of temperature differences between the cooling water and the environment on exergy efficiency. Typical predicted cooling water and condensation temperature profiles are illustrated and compared with the corresponding local exergy efficiency profiles, which reveal a direct (inverse) influence of the coolant (condensation) temperature on the exergy efficiency. Further results provide verification of the newly developed exergy efficiency correlation with a set of experimental data.  相似文献

A thermodynamic analysis of a hybrid geothermal heat pump system is carried out. Mass, energy, and exergy balances are applied to the system, which has a cooling tower as a heat rejection unit, and system performance is evaluated in terms of coefficient of performance and exergy efficiency. The heating coefficient of performance for the overall system is found to be 5.34, while the corresponding exergy efficiency is 63.4%. The effect of ambient temperature on the exergy destruction and exergy efficiency is investigated for the system components. The results indicate that the performance of hybrid geothermal heat pump systems is superior to air-source heat pumps.  相似文献

This paper deals with the experimental investigation of a magnesium chloride saturated solar pond and its performance evaluation through energy and exergy efficiencies. The solar pond system is filled with magnesium chloride containing water to form layers with varying densities. A solar pond generally consists of three zones, and the densities of these zones increase from the top convective zone to the bottom storage zone. The incoming solar radiation is absorbed by salty water (with magnesium chloride) which eventually increases the temperature of the storage zone. The high-temperature salty water at the bottom of the solar pond remains much denser than the salty water in the upper layers. Thus, the convective heat losses are prevented by gradient layers. The experimental temperature changes of the solar pond are measured by using thermocouples from August to November. The densities of the layers are also measured and analysed by taking samples from at the same point of the temperature sensors. The energy and exergy content distributions are determined for the heat storage zone and the non-convective zone. The maximum exergy destructions and losses appear to be 79.05 MJ for the heat storage zone and 175.01 MJ for the non-convective zone in August. The energy and exergy efficiencies of the solar pond are defined as a function of solar radiation and temperatures. As a result, the maximum energy and exergy efficiencies are found to be 27.41% and 26.04% for the heat storage zone, 19.71% and 17.45% for the non-convective zone in August, respectively.  相似文献

In this paper, a large MSF distillation plant in the gulf area is analyzed thermodynamically using actual plant operation data. Exergy flow rates are evaluated throughout the plant, and the exergy flow diagram is prepared. The rates of exergy destruction and their percentages are indicated on the diagram so that the locations of highest exergy destruction can easily be identified. The highest exergy destruction (77.7%) occurs within the MSF unit, as expected, and this can be reduced by increasing the number of flashing stages. The exergy destruction in the pumps and motors account for 5.3% of the total, and this also can be reduced by using high efficiency motors and pumps. The plant is determined to have a second law efficiency of just 4.2%, which is very low. This indicates that there are major opportunities in the plant to reduce exergy destruction and, thus, the amount of electric and thermal energy supplied, making the operation of the plant more cost effective.  相似文献
