The creation of digital online resourcesfor threatened aboriginal languages presents many technical,educational and ethical challenges. We focus here on the technicalchallenges in order to discuss both the problems encounteredin this particular context, and the solutions we have consideredand explored. We illustrate our discussion with examples froman Oral Stories Database we developed in collaboration withCree education consultants and speakers in 200204. Weadvocate an approach that includes fast-prototyping, open-sourcedevelopment, and design for the database engine that balancesspeed, availability, features, and resources. The escalation of deep web databases has been phenomenal over the last decade, spawning a growing interest in automated discovery
of interesting relationships among available deep web databases. Unlike the “surface” web of static pages, these deep web
databases provide data through a web-based query interface and account for a huge portion of all web content. This paper presents
a novel source-biased approach to efficiently discover interesting relationships among web-enabled databases on the deep web.
Our approach supports a relationship-centric view over a collection of deep web databases through source-biased database analysis
and exploration. Our source-biased approach has three unique features: First, we develop source-biased probing techniques,
which allow us to determine in very few interactions whether a target database is relevant to the source database by probing
the target with very precise probes. Second, we introduce source-biased relevance metrics to evaluate the relevance of deep
web databases discovered, to identify interesting types of source-biased relationships for a collection of deep web databases,
and to rank them accordingly. The source-biased relationships discovered not only present value-added metadata for each deep
web database but can also provide direct support for personalized relationship-centric queries. Third, but not least, we also
develop a performance optimization using source-biased probing with focal terms to further improve the effectiveness of the
basic source-biased model. A prototype system is designed for crawling, probing, and supporting relationship-centric queries
over deep web databases using the source-biased approach. Our experiments evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed source-biased
analysis and discovery model, showing that the source-biased approach outperforms query-biased probing and unbiased probing. 相似文献

The efficiency of A* searching depends on the quality of the lower bound estimates of the solution cost. Pattern databases enumerate all possible subgoals required by any solution, subject to constraints on the subgoal size. Each subgoal in the database provides a tight lower bound on the cost of achieving it. For a given state in the search space, all possible subgoals are looked up in the pattern database, with the maximum cost over all lookups being the lower bound. For sliding tile puzzles, the database enumerates all possible patterns containing N tiles and, for each one, contains a lower bound on the distance to correctly move all N tiles into their correct final location. For the 15-Puzzle, iterative-deepening A* with pattern databases(N ="8) reduces the total number of nodes searched on a standard problem set of 100 positions by over 1000‐fold. 相似文献

The development of mechanisms to ease human machine interaction is an issue about which there is increasing interest within both the software world in general, and database systems in particular. A way to tackle this problem is to try to approach the natural way of user expression. The Fuzzy Sets Theory and its application to build Fuzzy Databases constitute a consolidated advance in the literature. Another way is to adapt the interaction of the system to the context where it is running. In this sense, this paper presents an approach to build a model of Fuzzy Databases that dynamically adapts to user context. In order to do this, we have studied the management of the context in Fuzzy Database applications and we propose an architecture for the development of intelligent, flexible and customized context-aware database systems. We also present a proof of concept implementation to be used with SQL:99 standard in Oracle ORDBMS.
