The ring‐opening polymerization (ROP) of β‐butyrolactone (β‐BL) has been studied using the organocatalysts of diphenyl phosphate (DPP) and bis(4‐nitrophenyl) phosphate (BNPP). The controlled ROP of β‐BL was achieved using BNPP, whereas that of using DPP was insufficient because of its low acidity. For the BNPP‐catalyzed ROP of β‐BL, the dual activation property for β‐BL and the chain‐end models of poly(β‐butyrolactone) (PBL) were confirmed by NMR measurements. The optimized polymerization condition for the ROP of β‐BL proceeded through an O‐acyl cleavage to produce the well‐defined PBLs with molecular weights up to 10,650 g mol?1 and relatively narrow polydispersities of 1.19–1.39. Functional initiators were utilized for producing the end‐functionalized PBLs with the ethynyl, maleimide, pentafluorophenyl, methacryloyl, and styryl groups. Additionally, the diblock copolymers consisting of the PBL segment with the polyester or polycarbonate segments were prepared by the BNPP‐catalyzed ROPs of ε‐caprolactone or trimethylene carbonate without quenching. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Two more or less ethoxylated pentaerythritols were reacted with dibutyltin dimethoxide and yielded spirocyclic tin alkoxides that were soluble in hot toluene or in chlorobenzene, chloroform, and 1,1,2,2‐tetrachloroethane at room temperature. These solutions were used in situ as initiators for the ring‐expansion polymerization of ?‐caprolactone or β‐D,L ‐butyrolactone. The spirocyclic polylactones were reacted with various carboxylic acid chlorides and yielded four‐armed stars with the elimination of Bu2SnCl2. By variation of the acid chlorides, star arms with chloroacetate, 4‐bromobenzoate, 4‐nitrobenzoate, cinnamate, stearate, or methacrylate end groups were obtained. With 4‐chlorothiophenyl esters of N‐protected amino acids, N‐protected aminoacyl end groups were introduced. A complete functionalization of all star arms was not achieved in all cases, and structure–property relationships were examined. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Fragmentation reactions of β‐hydroxymethyl‐, β‐acetoxymethyl‐ and β‐benzyloxymethyl‐butenolides and the corresponding γ‐butyrolactones were investigated by electrospray ionization tandem mass spectrometry (ESI‐MS/MS) using collision‐induced dissociation (CID). This study revealed that loss of H2O [M + H ?18]+ is the main fragmentation process for β‐hydroxymethylbutenolide (1) and β‐hydroxymethyl‐γ‐butyrolactone (2). Loss of ketene ([M + H ?42]+) is the major fragmentation process for protonated β‐acetoxymethyl‐γ‐butyrolactone (4), but not for β‐acetoxymethylbutenolide (3). The benzyl cation (m/z 91) is the major ion in the ESI‐MS/MS spectra of β‐benzyloxymethylbutenolide (5) and β‐benzyloxymethyl‐γ‐butyrolactone (6). The different side chain at the β‐position and the double bond presence afforded some product ions that can be important for the structural identification of each compound. The energetic aspects involved in the protonation and gas‐phase fragmentation processes were interpreted on the basis of thermochemical data obtained by computational quantum chemistry. The end‐functionalization of syndiotactic polypropylene‐based copolymers can be accomplished by conducting propylene polymerization in the presence of norbornene using Me2C(Cp)(Flu)ZrCl2/MAO as the catalyst. The detailed structural analyses clearly reveal the occurrence of the β‐methyl elimination chain transfer reaction that leads to the generation of the ethenyl group end‐capped syndiotactic polypropylene‐based propylene–norbornene copolymer. Subsequently, the ethenyl group end‐capped copolymer can be used for the preparation of other end‐functionalized syndiotactic polypropylene‐based copolymers by conducting organic functional group transformation reactions. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Magnesium (Mg) and zinc (Zn) complexes incorporating tridentate anilido‐aldimine ligand, (E)‐2, 6‐diisopropyl‐N‐(2‐((2‐(piperidin‐1‐yl)ethylimino)methyl)phenyl)aniline ( AA Pip ‐H, 1 ), were synthesized and structurally characterized. The reaction of AA Pip ‐H ( 1 ) with MgnBu2 or ZnEt2 in equivalent proportions afforded the monomeric complex [( AA Pip )MgnBu] ( 2 ) or [( AA Pip )ZnEt] ( 3 ), respectively. The coordination modes of these complexes differ in the solid state: Mg complex 2 shows a four‐coordinated and distorted tetrahedral geometry, whereas Zn complex 3 adopts a trigonal planar geometry with a three‐coordinated Zn center. Complexes 2 and 3 are efficient catalysts for the ring‐opening polymerization of β‐butyrolactone (β‐BL) in the presence of 9‐anthracenemethanol (9‐AnOH). The polymerization of β‐BL with the Zn catalyst system is demonstrated in a living fashion with a narrow polydispersity index, PDI = 1.01–1.10. The number‐averaged molecular weight (Mn) of the produced poly(3‐hydroxybutyrate) (PHB) is quite close to the expected Mn over diverse molar ratios of monomer to 9‐AnOH. A greater ratio of monomer to alcohol catalyzed by Zn complex 3 served to form PHB with a large molecular weight (Mn > 60000). An effective method to prepare PHB‐b‐PCL and PEG‐b‐PHB by the ring‐opening copolymerization of β‐BL catalyzed by zinc complex 3 is reported. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Oligo(3‐OH butyrate)‐β‐cyclodextrin esters (PHB‐CD) were obtained through ring opening of β‐butyrolactone (β‐BL) in the presence of β‐cyclodextrin (CD) and (‐)‐sparteine (SP) as nucleophilic activator. The resulted reaction mixture was first separated in two fractions and then investigated through a deep mass spectrometry (MS) study performed on a liquid chromatography‐electrospray ionization‐quadrupole time of flight (LC‐ESI‐QTOF) instrument. LC MS and tandem MS structural assignment of the reaction products was completed by NMR. The performed analysis revealed that poly(3‐OH butyrate) homopolymers (PHB) are formed together with the PHB‐CD products. Secondary reactions resulting in the formation of crotonates were also proved to occur. A comparison between MS and NMR results demonstrated that more than one PHB oligomer is attached to the CD in the PHB‐CD product. The tandem MS fragmentation studies validated the proposed structure of CD derivatives. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem, 2010  相似文献

The copolymerization of racemic β‐butyrolactone (rac‐BLMe) with racemic “allyl‐β‐butyrolactone” (rac‐BLallyl) in toluene, catalyzed by the discrete amino‐alkoxy‐bis(phenolate) yttrium‐amido complex 1 , gave new poly(β‐hydroxyalkanoate)s with unsaturated side chains. The poly(BLMeco‐BLallyl) copolymers produced have a highly syndiotactic backbone structure (Pr = 0.80–0.84) with a random enchainment of monomer units, as evidenced by 13C NMR, and high molecular weight (Mn up to 58,000 g mol?1) with a narrow polydispersity (Mw/Mn = 1.07–1.37), as determined by GPC. The comonomer incorporation (5–50 mol % rac‐BLallyl) was a linear function of the feed ratio. The pendant vinyl bond of the side‐chains in those poly(BLMeco‐BLallyl) copolymers allowed the effective introduction of hydroxy or epoxy groups via dihydroxylation, hydroboration‐oxidation or epoxidation reactions. NMR studies indicated that all of these transformations proceed in an essentially quantitative conversion and do not affect the macromolecular architecture. Some thermal properties (Tm, ΔHm, Tg) of the prepared polymers have been also evaluated. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 47: 3177–3189, 2009  相似文献

The syntheses of well‐defined 7‐arm and 21‐arm poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAM) star polymers possessing β‐cyclodextrin (β‐CD) cores were achieved via the combination of atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) and click reactions. Heptakis(6‐deoxy‐6‐azido)‐β‐cyclodextrin and heptakis[2,3,6‐tri‐O‐(2‐azidopropionyl)]‐β‐cyclodextrin, β‐CD‐(N3)7 and β‐CD‐(N3)21, precursors were prepared and thoroughly characterized by nuclear magnetic resonance and matrix‐assisted laser desorption/ionization time‐of‐flight mass spectrometry. A series of alkynyl terminally functionalized PNIPAM (alkyne‐PNIPAM) linear precursors with varying degrees of polymerization (DP) were synthesized via atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) of N‐isopropylacrylamide using propargyl 2‐chloropropionate as the initiator. The subsequent click reactions of alkyne‐PNIPAM with β‐CD‐(N3)7 and β‐CD‐(N3)21 led to the facile preparation of well‐defined 7‐arm and 21‐arm star polymers, namely β‐CD‐(PNIPAM)7 and β‐CD‐(PNIPAM)21. The thermal phase transition behavior of 7‐arm and 21‐arm star polymers with varying molecular weights were examined by temperature‐dependent turbidity and micro‐differential scanning calorimetry, and the results were compared to those of linear PNIPAM precursors. The anchoring of PNIPAM chain terminal to β‐CD cores and high local chain density for star polymers contributed to their considerably lower critical phase separation temperatures (Tc) and enthalpy changes during phase transition as compared with that of linear precursors. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. 2,7‐dibromo‐N‐hexylcarbazole is successfully synthesized in three steps with an overall 37% yield. Novel 2,7‐carbazole‐based sterically hindered conjugated polymers are further synthesized. In the backbone structure of polymer P1 , alkylated bithiophene moiety is β‐substituted with dodecyl chains on both thiophene rings, adopting the tail‐to‐tail configuration. While for polymers P2 and P3 , partially planarized thieno[3,2‐b]thiophene moiety ( P2 ) and β‐pentyl substituted thieno[3,2‐b]thiophene ( P3 ) are incorporated. All polymers demonstrate efficient blue‐to‐green light emission, good thermal stability (Td ≥ 379 °C), and high glass transition temperatures (Tg = 118 °C). The optical and electronic properties of the resulted polymers are tuned by the incorporated alkyl chains. For instance, the incorporation of β‐pentyl group in thieno[3,2‐b]thiophene moiety endows P3 with blue‐shifted photophysical spectra, reduced fluorescence quantum yield and larger band gap in comparison with P2 . The steric effect of incorporated alkyl chains is further illustrated by geometry optimization of three model oligomers (analogues to the repetition units of P1–P3 ) using density functional theory. Sterically hindered polymers P1 and P2 exhibit high charge transport ability and moderate electroluminescent properties in primarily tested single‐layer light‐emitting diodes (configuration: ITO/PEDOT:PSS/Polymer/Ca/Ag). © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In this article, our main goal is to combine hyperbranched polymer with β‐cyclodextrin (β‐CD) to establish a novel functional polymer species with core‐shell structure and supramolecular system for further application in inclusion technologies and the complex drugs delivery system. Therefore, two β‐CD polymer brushes based on hyperbranched polycarbosilane (HBP) as a hydrophobic core and poly(N,N‐dimethylaminoethyl methacrylate) (PDMA) carrying β‐CD units as a hydrophilic shell were synthesized. Hyperbranched polycarbosilane macroinitiator carrying ? Cl groups (HBP‐Cl) was also prepared by using 1,1,3,3‐tetrmethyldisiloxane, allyl alcohol, and chloroacetyl chloride as reagents. The molecular structures of HBP‐Cl macroinitiator and β‐CD polymer brushes were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), 1H nuclear magnetic resonance (1H NMR), 13C nuclear magnetic resonance (13C NMR) spectroscopies, size exclusion chromatography/multi‐angle laser light scattering (SEC/MALLS) and laser particle size analyzer. The results indicate that the grafted chain length of two β‐CD polymer brushes can be controlled by changing the feed ratio. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) results show that two β‐CD polymer brushes have two glass transition temperatures (Tgs) from a hydrophobic core part and a hydrophilic shell part, respectively, and the Tg from PDMA is higher than that of HBP‐g‐PDMA. Thermalgravimetric analyzer (TGA) analysis indicates that the thermostability of two β‐CD polymer brushes is higher than that of HBP, but is lower than that of HBP‐g‐PDMA. Using phenolphthalein (PP) as a guest molecule, molecular inclusion behaviors for two β‐CD polymer brushes were studied. It reveals that two β‐CD polymer brushes possess molecular inclusion capability in PP buffer solution with a fixed concentration. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Two kinds of new glycopolymers, (P(VB‐1‐GlcaH‐co‐AAm), 9 ) and (P(VB‐1‐Glco‐co‐AAm), 10 ), were synthesized through the radical copolymerization of styrene derivatives bearing pendant D ‐glucaric and D ‐gluconic moieties, N‐(p‐vinylbenzyl)‐1‐D ‐glucaramide (VB‐1‐GlcaH, 7 ), and N‐(p‐vinylbenzyl)‐D ‐gluconamide (VB‐1‐Glco, 8 ), with acrylamide (AAm). Glycopolymer 9 bearing the pendant glucaric moiety at the first position inhibited the hydrolysis of a model compound for xenobiotics‐β‐glucuronide conjugates, p‐nitrophenyl β‐D ‐glucuronide, uncompetitively, in contrast to the competitive inhibition in the presence of the corresponding isomeric glycopolymer bearing the pendant D ‐glucaric unit at the sixth position (P(VB‐6‐GlcaH‐co‐AAm), 3 ) reported in our previous article. On the other hand, another copolymer 10 bearing the gluconic moiety was found not to inhibit the hydrolysis as well as the corresponding copolymer bearing pendant gulonic unit (P(VB‐6‐Glco‐co‐AAm), 4 ). These results indicate that the hydrolysis is influenced not only by existence of pendant carboxyl units but also by the direction on the linkage of the glyco‐units to the polymer frame. Therefore the configurational position of hydroxy groups in pendant glyco‐units in macromolecular inhibitors may be essential for the interaction with β‐glucuronidase. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A straightforward synthesis of amphiphilic β‐cyclodextrin‐poly(4‐acryloylmorpholine) (β‐CD‐PACM) polymers of controlled molecular weight, consisting of the radical polymerization of 4‐acryloylmorpholine in the presence of 6‐deoxy‐6‐mercapto‐β‐cyclodextrin (β‐CD‐SH) as chain‐transfer agent, has been established. These derivatives carry a single β‐cyclodextrin (β‐CD) moiety at one terminus and their average molecular weight is in the order of 104. Thus, their β‐CD content is ~ 10% by weight. No evidence of un‐functionalized PACM was found in the final products. The chain‐transfer constant (CT) of β‐CD‐SH was found to be 1.30 by independently determining the reaction constants of both chain‐transfer and propagation reactions. This ensures that the molecular weight, hence the β‐CD content of the polymers, does not significantly vary with conversion. These β‐CD‐PACM polymers are highly soluble in water as well as in several organic solvents such as chloroform and lower alcohols. They proved capable of solubilizing in water poorly soluble drugs such as 9‐[(2‐hydroxyethoxy)methyl]guanine (Acyclovir) and of gradually releasing them in aqueous systems. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Initiation by diethyl peroxydicarbonate (E‐PDC), di‐n‐tetradecyl peroxydicarbonate (nTD‐PDC), di‐n‐hexadecyl peroxydicarbonate (nHD‐PDC), and di‐2‐ethylhexyl peroxydicarbonate (2EH‐PDC) of free‐radical polymerizations of methyl methacrylate in benzene solution was studied by end‐group analysis via electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (ESI‐MS). Unambiguous assignment of ESI‐MS peaks allows for identification of the type of radical that starts chain growth. In case of initiation by dialkyl peroxydicarbonates with linear alkyl groups, almost exclusively alkoxy carbonyloxyl species, which are the primary fragments from initiator decomposition, occur as end‐groups. With 2EH‐PDC, however, both the primary 2‐ethylhexoxy carbonyloxyl fragment and a second moiety, which is formed by decarboxylation of the 2‐ethylhexoxy carbonyloxyl radical, are clearly observed as end‐groups. The decarboxylation process is described by a concerted mechanism which involves a 1,5‐hydrogen shift reaction. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Group 4 complexes 1 – 3 [ 1 = (t‐BuOS)2Ti(O‐i‐Pr)2; 2 = (t‐BuOS)2Zr(O‐t‐Bu)2; 3 = (t‐BuOS)2Hf(O‐t‐Bu)2] supported by two phenolate bidentate ligands (t‐BuOS‐H = 4,6‐di‐tert‐butyl‐2‐phenylsulfanylphenol) promote the well‐controlled ring opening polymerization of rac‐β‐butyrolactone. In presence of isopropanol, low dispersities and molecular weights proportional to the equivalents of isopropanol are achieved. Moreover, the zirconium complex is effective in the copolymerization of rac‐β‐butyrolactone with rac‐lactide. The 13 C nuclear magnetic resonance analysis revealed that the obtained copolymers have a tapered diblock microstructure consisting of an initial block composed of lactide sequences and a terminal block composed of butyrolactone sequences. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Methyl methacrylate (MMA) was polymerized in bulk at 70 °C in the presence of an alkoxyamine initiator with low dissociation temperature (the so‐called BlocBuilder?) and increasing amounts of free Ntert‐butyl‐N‐(1‐diethylphosphono‐2,2‐dimethylpropyl) nitroxide (SG1). Low final monomer conversions were reached, indicating a loss in radical activity due to side reactions such as irreversible homoterminations between the propagating radicals and β‐hydrogen transfer (also called disproportionation) from a propagating radical to a free‐SG1 nitroxide. Proton NMR and MALDI‐TOF mass spectrometry were used to analyze the polymer chain‐ends and to clearly identify the main mechanism of irreversible termination. In particular, it was shown that all polymer chains were terminated by an alkene function in the presence of a large excess of free SG1, meaning that β‐hydrogen transfer from PMMA propagating radicals to the nitroxide SG1 was the major chain‐stopping event. On the other hand, for a low excess of free SG1, the two termination modes coexisted. Kinetic modeling was then performed using the PREDICI software, and the rate constant of β‐hydrogen transfer, kβHtr, was estimated to be 1.69 × 103 L mol?1 s?1 at 70 °C. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The homopolymerization reactions of several lactones, as well as the copolymerization reactions of DL‐lactide with these lactones were investigated using tridentate Schiff base aluminum complexes as the initiators. ε‐Caprolactone and δ‐valerolactone polymerized efficiently at room temperature to afford polyesters, whereas β‐butyrolactone only gave the corresponding oligomer. The copolymerization reactions of DL‐lactide with caprolactone and valerolactone yielded gradient block copolymers where the lactyl blocks formed crystalline stereoblocks as a consequence of the stereoselective polymerization of DL‐lactide in the presence of the aluminum complexes. These polymerization processes were highly controlled in nature, and block copolymerization where caprolactone copolymerized using poly(DL‐lactide)‐Al complex proceeded. The obtained gradient copolymer containing stereoblock lactyl blocks and caproyl blocks were analyzed using WAXD analysis to uncover existence of the crystalline stereoblock lactyl blocks in the copolymer. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Cationic copolymerization of racemic‐β‐butyrolactone (β‐BL) with l,l ‐lactide (LA) initiated by alcohol and catalyzed by trifluoromethanesulfonic acid proceeding by activated monomer (AM) mechanism was investigated. Although both comonomers were present from the beginning in the reaction mixture, polymerization proceeded in sequential manner, with poly‐BL formed at the first stage acting as a macroinitiator for the subsequent polymerization of LA. Such course of copolymerization was confirmed by following the consumption of both comonomers throughout the process as well as by observing the changes of growing chain‐end structure using 1H NMR. 13C NMR analysis and thermogravimetry revealed the block structure of resulting copolymers. The proposed mechanism of copolymerization was confirmed by the studies of changes of 1H NMR chemical shift of acidic proton in the course of copolymerization, providing an indication that indeed protonated species and hydroxyl groups are present throughout the process, as required for AM mechanism. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. An amino isopropoxyl strontium (Sr‐PO) initiator, which was prepared by the reaction of propylene oxide with liquid strontium ammoniate solution, was used to carry out the ring‐opening polymerization (ROP) of cyclic esters to obtain aliphatic polyesters, such as poly(ε‐caprolactone) (PCL) and poly(L ‐lactide) (PLLA). The Sr‐PO initiator demonstrated an effective initiating activity for the ROP of ε‐caprolactone (ε‐CL) and L‐lactide (LLA) under mild conditions and adjusted the molecular weight by the ratio of monomer to Sr‐PO initiator. Block copolymer PCL‐b‐PLLA was prepared by sequential polymerization of ε‐CL and LLA, which was demonstrated by 1H NMR, 13C NMR, and gel permeation chromatography. The chemical structure of Sr‐PO initiator was confirmed by elemental analysis of Sr and N, 1H NMR analysis of the end groups in ε‐CL oligomer, and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy. The end groups of PCL were hydroxyl and isopropoxycarbonyl, and FTIR spectroscopy showed the coordination between Sr‐PO initiator and model monomer γ‐butyrolactone. These experimental facts indicated that the ROP of cyclic esters followed a coordination‐insertion mechanism, and cyclic esters exclusively inserted into the Sr–O bond. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A novel hexa‐armed and star‐shaped polymer containing cholesterol end‐capped poly(ε‐caprolactone) arms emanating from a phosphazene core (N3P3‐(PCL‐Chol)6) was synthesized by a combination of ring‐opening polymerization and “click” chemistry techniques. For this purpose, the terminal ? OH groups of the synthesized precursor (N3P3‐(PCL‐OH)6) were converted into Chol through a series of reaction. Both N3P3‐(PCL‐OH)6 and N3P3‐(PCL‐Chol)6 were then employed in the preparation of supramolecular inclusion complexes (ICs) with β‐cyclodextrin (β‐CD). The latter formed ICs with β‐CD in higher yield. The host–guest stoichiometry (ε‐CL:β‐CD, mol:mol) in the ICs of N3P3‐(PCL‐Chol)6 was found to be 1.2. The formation of supramolecular ICs of N3P3‐(PCL‐Chol)6 with β‐CD was confirmed by using Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) and 1H nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopic methods, wide‐angle X‐ray diffraction (WAXD), and thermal analysis techniques. WAXD data showed that the obtained ICs with N3P3‐(PCL‐Chol)6 had a channel‐type crystalline structure, indicating the suppression of the original crystallization of N3P3‐(PCL‐Chol)6 in β‐CD cavities. Moreover, the thermal stabilities of ICs were found to be higher than those of the free star polymer and β‐CD. Furthermore, the surface properties of N3P3‐(PCL‐Chol)6 and its ICs with β‐CD were investigated by static contact angle measurements. The obtained results proved that the wettability of N3P3‐(PCL‐Chol)6 successfully increased with the formation of its ICs with β‐CD. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part A: Polym. Electron‐deficient 2‐trifluoromethylacrylates (TFMA) undergo radical copolymerization with electron‐rich norbornene derivatives, vinyl ethers, and styrene derivatives, which can be described by the penultimate model much better than by the commonly employed terminal model. In an attempt to directly observe the effect of the CF3 group in the penultimate unit on the radical reactivity, we employed the Giese's mercury method. 4,4,4‐Trifluorobutyl and n‐butyl radicals produced from respective alkylmercuric chlorides were competitively reacted with t‐butyl 2‐trifluoromethylacrylate (TBTFMA) and t‐butyl methacrylate (TBMA) and the products analyzed with gas chromatography. While TBTFMA has been found to be about 24times more reactive than TBMA toward the n‐butyl radical, the former is about 12 times more reactive than the latter toward the 4,4,4‐trifluorobutyl radical. Thus, the reactivity of the propagating radical toward TBTFMA in comparison with TBMA is suppressed by a factor of two when the penultimate unit has the CF3 group. We observed a sextet electron spin resonance of the TFMA propagating radical with a coupling constant of ca. 25 gauss between the β‐proton and β‐fluorine. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
