Summary This field study was undertaken to determine the effect of inoculation withGlomus mosseae on N2 fixation and P uptake by soybean. The inoculation withGlomus mosseae was achieved using a new type of inoculant, alginate-entrapped (AE) endomycorrhizal fungus. N2 fixation was assessed using the A value method. In P-fertilized plots, inoculation with AEGlomus mosseae increased the harvest index based on dry weight (+20%) and N content of seeds (+17%), the A value (+31%) and %N derived from fixation (+75%). Inoculation with AEGlomus mosseae decreased the coefficient of variation for the A value and for the dry weights of the different plant parts.  相似文献

Summary Six mycorrhizal fungi were tested as inoculants for pearl millet (Pennisetum americanum Leeke) grown in pots maintained in a greenhouse. VAM fungi varied in their ability to stimulate plant growth and phosphorus uptake. Inoculation withGigaspora margarita, G. calospora andGlomus fasciculatum increased shoot drymatter 1.3 fold over uninoculated control. In another pot trial, inoculation withGigaspora calospora andGlomus fasciculatum resulted in dry matter and phosphorus uptake equivalent to that produced by adding phosphorus at 8 kg/ha.The influence of inoculatingGigaspora calospora on pearl millet at different levels of phosphorus fertilizer (0 to 60 kg P/ha) as triple superphosphate in sterile and unsterile alfisol soil was also studied. In sterile soil, mycorrhizal inoculation increased dry matter and phosphorus uptake at levels less than 20 kg/ha. At higher P levels the mycorrhizal effect was decreased. These studies performed in sterilized soil suggest that inoculation of pearl millet with efficient VAM fungi could be extremely useful in P deficient soils. However, its practical utility depends on screening and isolation of fungal strains which perform efficiently in natural (unsterilized) field conditions.  相似文献

Dual inoculations onLeucaena esculenta plants of eitherGlomus versiforme andRhizobium loti NGR 8 orGlomus sp. andR. loti ENCB 31, gave higher growth and phosphorus accumulation compared with treatments with a single micro-symbiont. The above combinations could be used in a re-forestation programme withL. esculenta in the highlands of Oaxaca State, Mexico. The use of endomycorrhized plants is recommended to alleviate the planting shock-phase, particularly in arid zones, and also the risk of root colonization by possibly less-efficient indigenous fungi.  相似文献

Onion (Allium cepa) plants were grown in pots in two types of irradiated soil, mineral and organic. Onion development was observed under two or three levels of P fertilization, and three methods of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungus inoculation with two fungus species. In mineral soil, preinoculated onion plants had a higher biomass than non-inoculated control plants or plants inoculated with either colonized root segments or spores. Fungus species had no differential effect on dry biomass or final bulb diameter. Preinoculated onion plants reached marketable size (>25 mm bulb diameter) 2-3 weeks earlier than those inoculated by either of the other two methods. Non-inoculated onion plants remained stunted. Bulbs of onions inoculated with Glomus versiforme were firmer than those inoculated with G. intraradices. Increasing P fertilizer rates had a significant positive linear effect on the P tissue concentration of plants inoculated with G. intraradices or G. versiforme, but no effect on bulb firmness. The P tissue concentration of inoculated plants was significantly higher than that of non-inoculated controls, and in inoculated plants, it differed among inoculation methods. The P tissue concentration was higher in onion plants inoculated with G. versiforme than in those inoculated with G. intraradices. In organic soil, the dry biomass of preinoculated plants was higher than that of plants inoculated by root segments. The highest root colonization levels were obtained under a low soil P level with G. intraradices, and with the root segment method of inoculation with G. versiforme.  相似文献

Summary Seed inoculation with Rhizobium and soil inoculation withGlomus fasciculatum increased nodulation, nitrogen and phosphorus concentration in plants and yield of chickpea (Cicer arietinum) var. BG 212 in pots containing unsterilized soil especially with 50kgP2O5 ha−1 in the form of superphosphate. Inoculation with Rhizobium orG. fasciculatum separately or in combination significantly increased the N2 fixed in straw and grain than uninoculated controls as determined by15N atom percent excess of plants grown in soil amended with labelled ammonium sulphate (15NH4)2SO4) at the rate of 20kg N ha−1. These increases were most pronounced when P was applied at 50kgP2O5 ha−1.  相似文献

Summary The interaction between the VA mycorrhizal fungus,Glomus fasciculatus and the root-knot nematodes,Meloidogyne incognita andM. javanica, and their effects on the growth and phosphorus nutrition of tomato was studied in a red sandy loam soil of pH 6.0. Inoculation of tomato roots with root-knot nematodes enhanced infection and spore production byG. fasciculatus. Inoculation of tomato plants withG. fasciculatus significantly reduced the number and size of the root-knot galls produced byM. incognita andM. javanica. Inoculation withG. fasciculatus although improved plant growth and its total phosphorus content compared to the uninoculated plants, the difference were not statistically significant.  相似文献

In view of the high mycorrhizal dependency of neem trees (Azadirachta indica), an experiment was conducted to study if Arbuscular Mycorrhizal (AM) inoculation can enhance the azadirachtin content in seed kernels of trees grown in the field. Azadirachtin is an important active ingredient in neem seed kernels based on which a large biopesticide industry has emerged in India and few countries in Europe and the USA. Inoculation of neem seedlings in the nursery with Glomus fasciculatum and Glomus mosseae resulted in increased height, dry weight, root colonization and phosphorus (P) content. In a separate experiment, field-grown neem plants inoculated in the nursery and during transplantation with Glomus fasciculatum were evaluated after 5 years. No significant differences were found in the tree height, girth at breast height (GBH) and fruit yield but oil percentage, total triterpenoids and azadirachtin content in kernels increased significantly as a result of AM inoculation. A similar enhancement in azadirachtin was noted with P application. These results open up possibilities of producing quality neem seed with high bioactive ingredients through AM inoculation.  相似文献

The effect of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) on the reduction of soil polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH), nutrient uptake, and growth of leek (Allium porrum L. cv. Musselburgh) plants was studied under greenhouse conditions. This experiment was a 3 × 2 × 2 × 4 factorial design including three mycorrhizal treatments (non-AMF, Glomus intraradices, and G. versiforme strains), two microorganism statuses (with and without soil bacteria), two PAH chemicals (anthracene and phenanthrene), and four PAH concentrations (three concentrations added and one control). Leek growth was reduced significantly in soils spiked with anthracene or phenanthrene. Inoculation with either Glomus intraradices or G. versiforme not only increased N and P uptake and plant growth, but also enhanced PAH disappearance in soil. After 12 weeks of potcultures, the anthracene and phenanthrene concentrations in soils were decreased as compared to their initial level, 9%–31% versus 43%–88%, respectively. Reductions in concentration were larger for phenanthrene than anthracene. The addition of a soil microorganism (SM) extract in potcultures accelerated the disappearance of PAHs. The decrease of PAHs in soil was mainly attributed to the enhanced nutrient uptake by AMF, leading to improved plant growth, which, in turn, may stimulate soil microbial activity. This study shows the interrelationships between AMF, plants, other SMs, and PAH disappearance in soil. The phytoremediation of soil contaminated with PAHs can be accelerated through inoculation with AMF and other SMs.  相似文献

Summary Growth and phosphorus uptake of pearl millet (Pennisetum americanum) on an unsterile, phosphorus-deficient soil was improved by the seed inoculation withAzospirillum brasilense or soil inoculation with the vesicular-arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (Acaulospora,Gigaspora margarita, Glomus fasciculatum). These microorganisms acted synergistically when added simultaneously and the response was significant withAzospirillum brasilense + Gigaspora margarita andAzospirillum brasilense + Glomus fasciculatum combinations over uninoculated control as far as the dry matter content of shoots, root biomass and phosphorus uptake of the millet was concerned.

This study investigates the effects of bacteria occurring in thecytoplasm of some arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) on their symbioticefficiency. Gigaspora margarita, Gigasporarosea and Glomus versiforme, containing orwithout intracellular bacteria, were compared for their efficiency instimulating growth of Lactuca sativa L. Biomass productionand nutrient contents were evaluated in plants grown on two substrates. Theefficiency of G. margarita harbouring a homogenouspopulation of Burkholderia was greater than that of theother two AMF, mainly G. rosea, which does not containintracellular bacteria. When plants were grown in poor soil, inoculation withG. margarita resulted in the best growth rates as well asthe highest N, P and K values. The significantly higher N content is ofparticular importance, since the genome of Burkholderiapossesses nif genes.  相似文献

Ralstonia solanacearum is an important plant pathogen in tropical and subtropical countries. Here, we describe the inhibition of R. solanacearum as a result of increased phenols induced locally or systemically by an arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) fungus. In pot cultures, R. solanacearum populations in the rhizosphere, on root surfaces and in the xylem were decreased by 26.7, 79.3 and 81.7%, respectively, following inoculation of tomato plants (Lycopersicon esculentum Mill.) with Glomus versiforme Berch. Colonization of the plants by both R. solanacearum and G. versiforme increased the contents of soluble phenols and cell‐wall bound phenols in root tissue, but with different patterns. Whereas R. solanacearum preferably promoted the cell‐wall bound phenol content, G. versiforme preferably enhanced the soluble phenol content. Split root experiments revealed that R. Solanacearum was inhibited by G. versiforme, and that G. versiforme also increased the phenol content systemically, but to a lesser extent than locally.  相似文献

Summary Azospirillum was associated with nodules of soybean. In general, seed inoculation with a broth culture ofAzospirillum brasilense alone significantly increased nodulation and grain yield of soybean grown in pots in unsterilized soil with different levels of urea ranging from 0 to 80 kg N/ha. This trend was significantly reproducible in a second experiment when a carrier based inoculant of the bacterium was used for seed inoculation.Inoculation withRhizobium japonicum andA. brasilense in combination generally increased grain yield in both the experiments, although the data were not significant.  相似文献

Summary Tomato plants were inoculated withGlomus fasciculatus mycorrhizal fungi while growing in sand through which recycled nutrient solution was automatically passed several times daily. Concentration of P and N in the solution were maintained at relatively low levels. Roots of inoculated plants became highly infected with mycorrhizal fungi, and yield parameters were significantly increased with inoculation over uninoculated control plants.  相似文献

Summary Response ofLeucanea leucocephala to inoculation withGlomus fasciculatum and/or Rhizobium was studied in a phosphorus deficient unsterile soil.G. fasciculatum only inoculation improved nodulation by native rhizobia and Rhizobium only treatment improved colonization of roots by native mycorrhizal fungi. Dual inoculation with both the organisms improved nodulation, mycorrhizal colonization, dry weight, nitrogen and phosphorus content of the plants compared to single inoculation with either organism. The growth of licorice in arid areas faces nutritional and environmental stresses. Arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) fungi have been shown to increase the abilities of plants to develop. However, little is known regarding the role of AM fungi in licorice (Glycyrrhiza uralensis) growth. In the present study, by inoculation with two AM fungi, Glomus mosseae (Nicolson & Gerdemann) Gerd. & Trappe and Glomus veriforme (P. Karst.), the effects on licorice growth in sand were examined by measuring plant height, number of leaves, shoot and root fresh weight, and by analyzing morphological parameters of the root system in sand. The influence of the two microorganisms on the accumulation of mineral nutritions and bioactive components in licorice were also investigated. The results showed that mycorrhyzae were of the Arum-type and their colonization frequency (F %), colonization intensity (M %) and colonization intensity (m %) of AM fungi inoculation were found to be 80.0–84.6%, 49.4–60.0% and 58.4–71.9%, respectively. The inoculation significantly improved plant growth during early and late growth stages in comparison with the control. Moreover, inoculation of G. mosseae and G. versiforme, alone or in combination, improved plant phosphorus acquisition in the leaf over non-inoculation plants. In addition, mycorrhiza formation enhanced the glycyrrhizin concentration in roots, but resulted in a considerable reduction of the root oxidase activity. The results indicate that the inoculation with AM fungi could be a useful approach to increase the licorice pharmic quality.  相似文献

The effects of Glomus mosseae and Paecilomyces lilacinus on Meloidogyne javanica of tomato were tested in a greenhouse experiment. Chicken layer manure was used as a carrier substrate for the inoculum of P. lilacinus. The following parameters were used: gall index, average number of galls per root system, plant height, shoot and root weights. Inoculation of tomato plants with G. mosseae did not markedly increase the growth of infected plants with M. javanica. Inoculation of plants with G. mosseae and P. lilacinus together or separately resulted in similar shoots and plant heights. The highest root development was achieved when mycorrhizal plants were inoculated with P. lilacinus to control root-knot nematode. Inoculation of tomato plants with G. mosseae suppressed gall index and the average number of galls per root system by 52% and 66%, respectively, compared with seedlings inoculated with M. javanica alone. Biological control with both G. mosseae and P. lilacinus together or separately in the presence of layer manure completely inhibited root infection with M. javanica. Mycorrhizal colonization was not affected by the layer manure treatment or by root inoculation with P. lilacinus. Addition of layer manure had a beneficial effect on plant growth and reduced M. javanica infection.  相似文献

Summary The effect of seed inoculation withAzotobacter spp. orAzospirillum spp., and garbage amendment (0.5%), on the growth of wheat was studied in a field experiment under sub-tropical conditions. Two levels of N fertilizer were applied, the usual field rate (150 kg N ha–1) and half this amount. Tillering of plants, dry matter contents and nitrogenase activity were determined 30, 60 and 90 days after sowing. At the end of the experimental period, spore numbers and percentage of mycorrhizal infection were observed in the rhizosphere and root systems of plants. Straw and grain yields were also determined. The results of this study showed that seed inoculation and/or organic amendment stimulated plant growth, nitrogenase activity and mycorrhizal infection. This was more noticeable withAzotobacter than withAzospirillum. Inoculation withAzotobacter together with 1/2 N dose and organic amendment was the most effective application (19.75 and 10.70 t ha–1 were recorded for straw and grain yield, respectively).  相似文献

The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungus (AMF) inoculation on plant growth and drought tolerance in seedlings of a promising oilseed crop, Sacha Inchi (Plukenetia volubilis L.), under well-watered or drought conditions. AMF inoculation was applied in four treatments: without AMF inoculation, Glomus versiforme, Paraglomus occultum, or combination of both microorganism inoculations. The results showed that AMF colonization significantly enhanced the growth of Sacha Inchi seedlings regardless of soil water conditions, and the greatest development was reached in plants dually inoculated under well-watered conditions. G. versiforme was more efficient than P. occultum. Plants inoculated with both symbionts had significantly greater specific leaf area, leaf area ratio and root volume when compared with the uninoculated control, G. versiforme, and P. occultum treatments alone, indicating a synergistic effect in the two AMF inoculation. Photosynthetic rate and water-use efficiency were stimulated by AMF, but not stomatal conductance. Inoculation with AM fungus increased antioxidant enzymes activities including guaiacol peroxidase and catalase, thus lowering hydrogen peroxide accumulation and oxidative damage, especially under drought stress conditions. However, proline content showed little change during drought stress and AMF colonization conditions, which suggested that proline accumulation might not serve as the main compound for osmotic adjustment of the studied species. These results indicate that AMF inoculation stimulated growth and enhanced drought tolerance of Sacha Inchi seedlings, through alterations in morphological, physiological and biochemical traits. This microbial symbiosis might be an effective cultivation practice in improving the performance and development for Sacha Inchi plants.  相似文献
