The problem of estimating the Poisson mean is considered based on the two samples in the presence of uncertain prior information (not in the form of distribution) that two independent random samples taken from two possibly identical Poisson populations. The parameter of interest is λ1 from population I. Three estimators, i.e. the unrestricted estimator, restricted estimator and preliminary test estimator are proposed. Their asymptotic mean squared errors are derived and compared; parameter regions have been found for which restricted and preliminary test estimators are always asymptotically more efficient than the classical estimator. The relative dominance picture of the estimators is presented. Maximum and minimum asymptotic efficiencies of the estimators relative to the classical estimator are tabulated. A max-min rule for the size of the preliminary test is also discussed. A Monte Carlo study is presented to compare the performance of the estimator with that of Kale and Bancroft (1967).  相似文献

?iray et al. proposed a restricted Liu estimator to overcome multicollinearity in the logistic regression model. They also used a Monte Carlo simulation to study the properties of the restricted Liu estimator. However, they did not present the theoretical result about the mean squared error properties of the restricted estimator compared to MLE, restricted maximum likelihood estimator (RMLE) and Liu estimator. In this article, we compare the restricted Liu estimator with MLE, RMLE and Liu estimator in the mean squared error sense and we also present a method to choose a biasing parameter. Finally, a real data example and a Monte Carlo simulation are conducted to illustrate the benefits of the restricted Liu estimator.  相似文献

In the context of estimating regression coefficients of an ill-conditioned binary logistic regression model, we develop a new biased estimator having two parameters for estimating the regression vector parameter β when it is subjected to lie in the linear subspace restriction Hβ = h. The matrix mean squared error and mean squared error (MSE) functions of these newly defined estimators are derived. Moreover, a method to choose the two parameters is proposed. Then, the performance of the proposed estimator is compared to that of the restricted maximum likelihood estimator and some other existing estimators in the sense of MSE via a Monte Carlo simulation study. According to the simulation results, the performance of the estimators depends on the sample size, number of explanatory variables, and degree of correlation. The superiority region of our proposed estimator is identified based on the biasing parameters, numerically. It is concluded that the new estimator is superior to the others in most of the situations considered and it is recommended to the researchers.  相似文献

In this paper, a generalized difference-based estimator is introduced for the vector parameter β in the semiparametric regression model when the errors are correlated. A generalized difference-based Liu estimator is defined for the vector parameter β in the semiparametric regression model. Under the linear nonstochastic constraint Rβ=r, the generalized restricted difference-based Liu estimator is given. The risk function for the β?GRD(η) associated with weighted balanced loss function is presented. The performance of the proposed estimators is evaluated by a simulated data set.  相似文献

For the balanced random effects models, when the variance components are correlated either naturally or through common prior structures, by assuming a mixed prior distribution for the variance components, we propose some new Bayesian estimators. To contrast and compare the new estimators with the minimum variance unbiased (MVUE) and restricted maximum likelihood estimators (RMLE), some simulation studies are also carried out. It turns out that the proposed estimators have smaller mean squared errors than the MVUE and RMLE.  相似文献

In this paper, a new estimator combined estimator (CE) is proposed for estimating the finite population mean ¯ Y N in simple random sampling assuming a long-tailed symmetric super-population model. The efficiency and robustness properties of the CE is compared with the widely used and well-known estimators of the finite population mean ¯ Y N by Monte Carlo simulation. The parameter estimators considered in this study are the classical least squares estimator, trimmed mean, winsorized mean, trimmed L-mean, modified maximum-likelihood estimator, Huber estimator (W24) and the non-parametric Hodges–Lehmann estimator. The mean square error criteria are used to compare the performance of the estimators. We show that the CE is overall more efficient than the other estimators. The CE is also shown to be more robust for estimating the finite population mean ¯ Y N , since it is insensitive to outliers and to misspecification of the distribution. We give a real life example.  相似文献

In this article, we consider a partially linear single-index model Y = g(Z τθ0) + X τβ0 + ? when the covariate X may be missing at random. We propose weighted estimators for the unknown parametric and nonparametric part by applying weighted estimating equations. We establish normality of the estimators of the parameters and asymptotic expansion for the estimator of the nonparametric part when the selection probabilities are unknown. Simulation studies are also conducted to illustrate the finite sample properties of these estimators.  相似文献

This paper considers several estimators for estimating the restricted ridge parameter estimators. A simulation study has been conducted to compare the performance of these estimators. Based on the simulation study we found that, increasing the correlation between the independent variables has positive effect on the mean square error (MSE). However, increasing the value of ρ has negative effect on MSE. When the sample size increases, the MSE decreases even when the correlation between the independent variables is large. Two real life examples have been considered to illustrate the performance of the estimators.  相似文献

This paper considers the problem of estimating the probability P = Pr(X < Y) when X and Y are independent exponential random variables with unequal scale parameters and a common location parameter. Uniformly minimum variance unbiased estimator of P is obtained. The asymptotic distribution of the maximum likelihood estimator is obtained and then the asymptotic equivalence of the two estimators is established. Performance of the two estimators for moderate sample sizes is studied by Monte Carlo simulation. An approximate interval estimator is also obtained.  相似文献

This article considers fixed effects (FE) estimation for linear panel data models under possible model misspecification when both the number of individuals, n, and the number of time periods, T, are large. We first clarify the probability limit of the FE estimator and argue that this probability limit can be regarded as a pseudo-true parameter. We then establish the asymptotic distributional properties of the FE estimator around the pseudo-true parameter when n and T jointly go to infinity. Notably, we show that the FE estimator suffers from the incidental parameters bias of which the top order is O(T? 1), and even after the incidental parameters bias is completely removed, the rate of convergence of the FE estimator depends on the degree of model misspecification and is either (nT)? 1/2 or n? 1/2. Second, we establish asymptotically valid inference on the (pseudo-true) parameter. Specifically, we derive the asymptotic properties of the clustered covariance matrix (CCM) estimator and the cross-section bootstrap, and show that they are robust to model misspecification. This establishes a rigorous theoretical ground for the use of the CCM estimator and the cross-section bootstrap when model misspecification and the incidental parameters bias (in the coefficient estimate) are present. We conduct Monte Carlo simulations to evaluate the finite sample performance of the estimators and inference methods, together with a simple application to the unemployment dynamics in the U.S.  相似文献

The zero-inflated Poisson regression model is commonly used when analyzing economic data that come in the form of non-negative integers since it accounts for excess zeros and overdispersion of the dependent variable. However, a problem often encountered when analyzing economic data that has not been addressed for this model is multicollinearity. This paper proposes ridge regression (RR) estimators and some methods for estimating the ridge parameter k for a non-negative model. A simulation study has been conducted to compare the performance of the estimators. Both mean squared error and mean absolute error are considered as the performance criteria. The simulation study shows that some estimators are better than the commonly used maximum-likelihood estimator and some other RR estimators. Based on the simulation study and an empirical application, some useful estimators are recommended for practitioners.  相似文献

Let Sp × p have a Wishart distribution with parameter matrix Σ and n degrees of freedom. We consider here the problem of estimating the precision matrix Σ?1 under the loss functions L1(σ) tr (σ) - log |σ| and L2(σ) = tr (σ). James-Stein-type estimators have been derived for an arbitrary p. We also obtain an orthogonal invariant and a diagonal invariant minimax estimator under both loss functions. A Monte-Carlo simulation study indicates that the risk improvement of the orthogonal invariant estimators over the James-Stein type estimators, the Haff (1979) estimator, and the “testimator” given by Sinha and Ghosh (1987) is substantial.  相似文献

In this article, the restricted rk class estimator and restricted rd class estimator are introduced, which are general estimators of the rk class estimator by Baye and Parker [Combining ridge and principal component regression: A money demand illustration, Commun. Stat. Theory Methods 13(2) (1984), pp. 197–205] and the rd class estimator by Kaç?ranlar and Sakall?o?lu [Combining the Liu estimator and the principal component regression estimator, Commun. Stat. Theory Methods 30(12) (2001), pp. 2699–2705], respectively. For the two cases when the restrictions are true and not true, the superiority of the restricted rk class estimator and rd class estimator over the restricted ridge regression estimator by Sarkar [A new estimator combining the ridge regression and the restricted least squares methods of estimation, Commun. Stat. Theory Methods 21 (1992), pp. 1987–2000] and the restricted Liu estimator by Kaç?ranlar et al. [A new biased estimator in linear regression and a detailed analysis of the widely analysed dataset on Portland cement, Sankhya - Indian J. Stat. 61B(3) (1999), pp. 443–459] are discussed with respect to the mean squared error matrix criterion. Furthermore, a Monte Carlo evaluation of the estimators is given to illustrate some of the theoretical results.  相似文献

An ARIMA(p,1,0) signal disturbed by MA(q) noise is an ARIMA(p,1, p+q+1) process restricted by nonlinear constraints on parameters. For this model with a unit root the restricted maximum likelihood estimator (RMLE) of the unit root is strongly consistent and it has the same limiting distribution as the ordinary least squares estimator of the unit root in an AR(1) model tabulated by Dickey and Fuller (1979). A modified RMLE is proposed which has the same limiting properties as the RMLE and is computationally much simpler. Simulation results show that our unit root tests based on the modified RMLE perform very well for small samples and compare favorably with the Said and Dickey (1985) tests with respect to both sizes and powers. An illustrative example from sample survey is given.  相似文献

Abstract

In this article, when it is suspected that regression coefficients may be restricted to a subspace, we discuss the parameter estimation of regression coefficients in a multiple regression model. Then, in order to improve the preliminary test almost ridge estimator, we study the positive-rule Stein-type almost unbiased ridge estimator based on the positive-rule stein-type shrinkage estimator and almost unbiased ridge estimator. After that, quadratic bias and quadratic risk values of the new estimator are derived and compared with some relative estimators. And we also discuss the option of parameter k. Finally, we perform a real data example and a Monte Carlo study to illustrate theoretical results.  相似文献

In this paper, we analytically derive the exact formula for the mean squared error (MSE) of two weighted average (WA) estimators for each individual regression coefficient. Further, we execute numerical evaluations to investigate small sample properties of the WA estimators, and compare the MSE performance of the WA estimators with the other shrinkage estimators and the usual OLS estimator. Our numerical results show that (1) the WA estimators have smaller MSE than the other shrinkage estimators and the OLS estimator over a wide region of parameter space; (2) the range where the relative MSE of the WA estimator is smaller than that of the OLS estimator gets narrower as the number of explanatory variables k increases.  相似文献

The simple linear regression model with measurement error has been subject to much research. In this work we will focus on this model when the error in the explanatory variable is correlated with the error in the regression equation. Specifically, we are interested in the comparison between the ordinary errors-in-variables estimator of the regression coefficient ββ and the estimator that takes account of the correlation between the errors. Based on large sample approximations, we compare the estimators and find that the estimator that takes account of the correlation should be preferred in most situations. We also compare the estimators in small sample situations. This is done by stochastic simulation. The results show that the estimators behave quite similarly in most of the simulated situations, but that the ordinary errors-in-variables estimator performs considerably worse than the estimator that takes account of the correlation for certain parameter combinations. In addition, we look briefly into the bias introduced by ignoring correlated errors when computing sample correlations, and in predictions.  相似文献

In this note we provide sufficient conditions for the minimaxity of linear estimators of the form aX+b in the one-parameter exponential family for estimating a differentiable function g(θ) with normalized quadratic loss. We provide some examples which show that the natural estimator X is minimax in estimating a function of the parameter (different from the mean).  相似文献

Motivated by several practical issues, we consider the problem of estimating the mean of a p-variate population (not necessarily normal) with unknown finite covariance. A quadratic loss function is used. We give a number of estimators (for the mean) with their loss functions admitting expansions to the order of p ?1/2 as p→∞. These estimators contain Stein's [Inadmissibility of the usual estimator for the mean of a multivariate normal population, in Proceedings of the Third Berkeley Symposium in Mathematical Statistics and Probability, Vol. 1, J. Neyman, ed., University of California Press, Berkeley, 1956, pp. 197–206] estimate as a particular case and also contain ‘multiple shrinkage’ estimates improving on Stein's estimate. Finally, we perform a simulation study to compare the different estimates.  相似文献

In this paper, we propose a smoothed Q‐learning algorithm for estimating optimal dynamic treatment regimes. In contrast to the Q‐learning algorithm in which nonregular inference is involved, we show that, under assumptions adopted in this paper, the proposed smoothed Q‐learning estimator is asymptotically normally distributed even when the Q‐learning estimator is not and its asymptotic variance can be consistently estimated. As a result, inference based on the smoothed Q‐learning estimator is standard. We derive the optimal smoothing parameter and propose a data‐driven method for estimating it. The finite sample properties of the smoothed Q‐learning estimator are studied and compared with several existing estimators including the Q‐learning estimator via an extensive simulation study. We illustrate the new method by analyzing data from the Clinical Antipsychotic Trials of Intervention Effectiveness–Alzheimer's Disease (CATIE‐AD) study.  相似文献
