An operation of concatenation is defined for graphs. This allows strings to be viewed as expressions denoting graphs, and string languages to be interpreted as graph languages. For a class of string languages, is the class of all graph languages that are interpretations of languages from . For the classes REG and LIN of regular and linear context-free languages, respectively, . is the smallest class of graph languages containing all singletons and closed under union, concatenation and star (of graph languages). equals the class of graph languages generated by linear HR (= Hyperedge Replacement) grammars, and is generated by the corresponding -controlled grammars. Two characterizations are given of the largest class such that . For the class CF of context-free languages, lies properly inbetween and the class of graph languages generated by HR grammars. The concatenation operation on graphs combines nicely with the sum operation on graphs. The class of context-free (or equational) graph languages, with respect to these two operations, is the class of graph languages generated by HR grammars. Summary Specializing an existing graph grammar model we look in detail at node context-free graph grammars. With a slight generalization the parse trees for context-free Chomsky grammars can be used to describe derivations of these graph grammars. As shown already in former works the precedence graph grammars are defined as a subclass of context-free graph grammars by certain algebraic restrictions on the form of the rules. Then we can prove that every precedence grammar is unambiguous and additionally the reduction process in such a grammar read as replacement system is finite. The most important aim in defining the predence relations was a simple parsing method. This is realized because it is shown that the syntactic analysis for precedence graph grammars can be done in a time which linearly depends on the size of the input graph. The whole method has been implemented and a documentation is available.  相似文献

Context-free hypergraph grammars and boundary graph grammars of bounded nonterminal degree have the same power, both for generating sets of graphs and for generating sets of hypergraphs. Arbitrary boundary graph grammars have more graph generating power than context-free hypergraph grammars, but they have the same hypergraph generating power. To obtain these results, several normal forms for boundary graph grammars are given. It is also shown that the class of boundary graph languages is closed under the operation of edge contraction, where the label of the edge indicates whether or not the edge should be contracted.  相似文献

A new kind of graph grammars (called NLC grammars) is introduced. The main theorem is a result on the combinatorial structure of graph languages generated by NLC grammars; it resembles the pumping theorem for context-free string languages.  相似文献

According to the classification of labelled graph grammars by Nagl [4], it can be shown that the class of context-sensitive graph languages is equivalent to the class of context-free graph languages and the context-free graph languages properly include the regular graph languages.  相似文献

Summary Although in many ways, hyperedge replacement graph grammars (HRGs) are, among all graph generating mechanisms, what context-free Chomsky grammars are in the realm of string rewriting, their parsing problem is known to be, in general, NP-complete. In this paper, the main difficulty in HRG parsing is analysed and some conditions on either grammar or input graphs are developed under which parsing can be done in polynomial time. For some of the cases, the parsing problem is shown to be log-space reducible to context-free string parsing.Parts of the results of this paper were presented at 15th ICALP, [La88b]  相似文献

Fundamental open problems, which are frontiers of syntactic pattern recognition are discussed in the paper. Methodological considerations on crucial issues in areas of string and graph grammar-based syntactic methods are made. As a result, recommendations concerning an enhancement of context-free grammars as well as constructing parsable and inducible classes of graph grammars are formulated.  相似文献

Fuzzy context-free max- grammar (or FCFG, for short), as a straightforward extension of context-free grammar, has been introduced to express uncertainty, imprecision, and vagueness in natural language fragments. Li recently proposed the approximation of fuzzy finite automata, which may effectively deal with the practical problems of fuzziness, impreciseness and vagueness. In this paper, we further develop the approximation of fuzzy context-free grammars. In particular, we show that a fuzzy context-free grammar under max- compositional inference can be approximated by some fuzzy context-free grammar under max-min compositional inference with any given accuracy. In addition, some related properties of fuzzy context-free grammars and fuzzy languages generated by them are studied. Finally, the sensitivity of fuzzy context-free grammars is also discussed.  相似文献

Generating test data with enhanced context-free grammars   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Maurer  P.M. 《Software, IEEE》1990,7(4):50-55
The use of context-free grammars to improve functional testing of very-large-scale integrated circuits is described. It is shown that enhanced context-free grammars are effective tools for generating test data. The discussion covers preliminary considerations, the first tests, generating systematic tests, and testing subroutines. The author's experience using context-free grammars to generate tests for VLSI circuit simulators indicates that they are remarkably effective tools that virtually anyone can use to debug virtually any program  相似文献

Floyd?s operator precedence grammars and languages (FG, FL) are a classical subclass of deterministic context-free (DCF) grammars and languages. We prove that several recently introduced language families motivated by the needs of model checking and of specifying XML-like languages are proper subsets of FL. The main cases considered include visibly pushdown languages (VPL) and balanced languages (BALAN), which are characterized by restricted precedence relations. FL have all the closure properties available for regular languages and generally viewed as necessary for application to model checking: reversal, prefixing and suffixing, concatenation, Kleene star, and boolean operations. All but the last results are new, and some require complex proofs, due to the necessary changes of syntax structure. Thus FL are the largest known subfamily of DCF having the same closure properties as VPL. FG, unlike VPL grammars, which are intended for abstract syntax modelling, are structurally adequate to specify real programming languages.  相似文献

We define context-free grammars with Büchi acceptance condition generating languages of countable words. We establish several closure properties and decidability results for the class of Büchi context-free languages generated by these grammars. We also define context-free grammars with Müller acceptance condition and show that there is a language generated by a grammar with Müller acceptance condition which is not a Büchi context-free language.  相似文献

In this paper we introduce context-free grammars and pushdown automata over infinite alphabets. It is shown that a language is generated by a context-free grammar over an infinite alphabet if and only if it is accepted by a pushdown automaton over an infinite alphabet. Also the generated (accepted) languages possess many of the properties of the ordinary context-free languages: decidability, closure properties, etc.. This provides a substantial evidence for considering context-free grammars and pushdown automata over infinite alphabets as a natural extension of the classical ones. Spinal-Formed Context-Free Tree Grammars   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
In this paper we introduce a restricted model of context-free tree grammars called spine grammars, and study their formal properties including considerably simple normal forms. Recent research on natural languages has suggested that formalisms for natural languages need to generate a slightly larger class of languages than context-free grammars, and for that reason tree adjoining grammars have been widely studied relating them to natural languages. It is shown that the class of string languages generated by spine grammars coincides with that of tree adjoining grammars. We also introduce acceptors called linear pushdown tree automata, and show that linear pushdown tree automata accept exactly the class of tree languages generated by spine grammars. Linear pushdown tree automata are obtained from pushdown tree automata with a restriction on duplicability for the pushdown stacks. Received May 29, 1998, and in revised form April 27, 1999, and in final form May 10, 1999.  相似文献

Selective substitution grammars based on ‘context-free’ productions form a possible framework for the study of ‘grammatically oriented’ formal language theory. Such grammars (with no control governing the composition of derivation steps) are studied in this paper. In particular we study the effect of various conditions on selectors (which define the way that rewriting is performed); those conditions are aimed to formalize the notion of ‘using information about the context’ during the rewriting process. Each of them captures a particular feature of a rewriting according to a context-free grammar or an EOS system (essentially a context-free grammar that can also rewrite terminal symbols). Some of those conditions yield characterizations of the class of context-free languages for other conditions the lower and upper bound on the language generating power are given. Also a natural notion of a class of ‘simple’ rewriting systems is introduced (pattern grammars) and it is demonstrated that they possess surprisingly high language generating power.  相似文献

Summary Affix grammars are an extension of context-free grammars which retain most of their advantages and eliminate most of their limitations with respect to the definition of programming languages and the specification of their translators. The extension allows definition of context-sensitive syntax features, and also allows semantics to be linked to syntax. In this paper, the parsing problem for affix grammars is explored and shown to be closely related to the parsing problem for context-free grammars. This enables a standard context-free parser constructor to be generalised to a constructor for affix grammars, essentially by addition of a preprocessor. The resulting constructors are compared with previously implemented or proposed constructors.  相似文献

A new interactive evolutionary 3D design system is presented. The representation is based on graph grammars, a fascinating and powerful formalism in which nodes and edges are iteratively rewritten by rules analogous to those of context-free grammars and shape grammars. The nodes of the resulting derived graph are labelled with Euclidean coordinates: therefore the graph fully represents a 3D beam design. Results from user-guided runs are presented, demonstrating the flexibility of the representation. Comparison with results using an alternative graph representation demonstrates that the graph grammar search space is more rich in organised designs. A set of numerical features are defined over designs. They are shown to be effective in distinguishing between the designs produced by the two representations, and between designs labelled by users as good or bad. The features allow the definition of a non-interactive fitness function in terms of proximity to target feature vectors. In non-interactive experiments with this fitness function, the graph grammar representation out-performs the alternative graph representation, and evolution out-performs random search.  相似文献

Tile rewriting grammars (TRG) are a new model for defining picture languages. A rewriting rule changes a homogeneous rectangular subpicture into an isometric one tiled with specified tiles. Derivation and language generation with TRG rules are similar to context-free grammars. A normal form and some closure properties are presented. We prove this model has greater generative capacity than the tiling systems of Giammarresi and Restivo and the grammars of Matz, another generalization of context-free string grammars to 2D. Examples are shown for pictures made by nested frames and spirals.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider probabilistic context-free grammars, a class of generative devices that has been successfully exploited in several applications of syntactic pattern matching, especially in statistical natural language parsing. We investigate the problem of training probabilistic context-free grammars on the basis of distributions defined over an infinite set of trees or an infinite set of sentences by minimizing the cross-entropy. This problem has applications in cases of context-free approximation of distributions generated by more expressive statistical models. We show several interesting theoretical properties of probabilistic context-free grammars that are estimated in this way, including the previously unknown equivalence between the grammar cross-entropy with the input distribution and the so-called derivational entropy of the grammar itself. We discuss important consequences of these results involving the standard application of the maximum-likelihood estimator on finite tree and sentence samples, as well as other finite-state models such as hidden Markov models and probabilistic finite automata.  相似文献
