采用2015年10月采集的湛江港海域水体叶绿素a浓度、温度、盐度等参数,分析了秋季湛江港和入海口温盐结构及生态特征。研究结果表明,湛江港海域盐度的水平分布上由湾内往湾外逐渐递增,叶绿素a浓度由湾内往湾外逐渐递减,水深比较浅的区域水温较高,同时在航道入海口底层存在着“高盐低温低叶绿素”的相对稳定的冷水团结构。该水团的形成是由于湛江港出海口独特的地形构造促进区域性水体层化,同时底部水体透明度低,限制航道入海口区域底层的浮游植物的生长等因素所致。  相似文献

We discuss the results of the numerical experiment aimed at the simulation of the behavior of currents and transformations of the temperature and salt modes in the Sevastopol Bay in January–February 1997. In the numerical analysis, we use actual data on the velocity and direction of the wind, sea surface temperature, and the discharge of River Chernaya. It is shown that the circulation and structure of hydrological fields are mainly connected with the direction of the wind, its intensity, and variability in the course of time. Since the analyzed water area is shallow, the currents inside the bay undergo rapid transformations (less than for an hour after changes in the wind). At the same time, the transformations of the thermohaline fields are slower. Due to the inflow of fresh waters of River Chernaya and salt waters from the open sea through the strait, the structure of thermohaline fields formed in the bay is nonuniform (both in the vertical and horizontal directions). The distribution of salinity plays the main role in the formation of the vertical stratification, which is natural for the winter season. Due to the process of freshening of water, a quite high vertical salinity gradient is formed in the upper layer of the sea. This report presents a new analysis of the results of two hydrochemical surveys over the Ob Bay in 2010 performed by the Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography (VNIRO) and the Institute of Oceanology (IO RAS). The unique world feature of the Ob River-Ob Bay system is shown. The water volume in the bay exceeds the average annual runoff of the Ob River, being somewhat under the total runoff of all the inflowing rivers. Because of this, the complete renovation of the waters in the bay requires a long time. The within-year distribution of the runoff is characterized by both the flood waters and those of the Ob River winter runoff characterized by much different hydrochemical parameters registered even in the course of summer surveys in the bay. This fact, but not the biological transformation of the waters, as assumed previously, is the primary cause of the variability of the water composition in the bay. The summer waters of the Ob River reach the sea-ward boundary of the bay only in the next spring, enter the Kara Sea with the spring flood, and form lenses of desalinated waters in the sea. The autumn expeditions by the IO RAS found that the waters in the lenses were quite similar to the autumn waters in the bay, although these were the Ob River waters of different years, which was disregarded formerly.  相似文献

Seasonal, sub-seasonal and spatial fluctuations in bottom dissolved oxygen (DO) were examined in St Helena Bay, South Africa’s largest and most productive embayment, between November 2013 and November 2014. Alongshore bay characteristics were assessed through comparison of variables along the 50-m depth contour. A mean coefficient of variation of 0.35 provided a measure of the relative variability of near-bottom DO concentrations along this contour. Consistently lower DO concentrations in the southern region of the bay in summer and autumn are attributed to enhanced retention. Across-shelf transects captured the seasonal development of hypoxia in relation to the distribution of phytoplankton biomass. Exceptional dinoflagellate blooms form extensive subsurface thin layers preceding the autumn DO minima in the south of the bay, prior to winter ventilation of the bottom waters. The seasonal decline in DO concentrations in the bottom waters was marked by sub-seasonal events of hypoxia, and ultimately anoxia linked to episodic deposition of organic matter, as indicated by increases in bottom chlorophyll-a concentrations. Seasonal changes in bottom water macronutrient concentrations followed trends in apparent oxygen utilisation (AOU), both of which mirrored DO concentrations. In the south of the bay, nitrogen loss through denitrification/anammox in suboxic waters was indicated by a dissolved inorganic N deficit in the bottom waters, which was most pronounced in autumn.  相似文献

Hydrophobic organic contaminants (HOCs) may be used as tracers of particle dynamics in aquatic systems. Internal cycling of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) were studied in the mesohaline Chesapeake Bay to assess the role of resuspension in maintaining particle and contaminant inventories in the water column, and to compare settling and suspended particle characteristics. Direct measurements of sediment resuspension and settling conducted in conjunction with one of the sediment trap deployments indicate reasonable agreement between measurements of particle flux using the two different methods. Organic carbon and PCB concentrations in settling solids collected in near-surface sediment traps were remarkably lower than concentrations in suspended particles collected by filtration during the trap deployments, but higher PAH concentrations were found in the settling particles. The different behaviors of PAHs and PCBs in the settling particles are due to their different source types and association to different types of particles. Sediment trap collections in near bottom waters were dominated by resuspension. Resuspension fluxes of HOCs measured 2 m above the bay bottom were as high as 2.5 μg/m2 day for total PCBs and 15 μg/m2 day for fluoranthene, and were 25 and 10 times higher than their settling fluxes from surface waters, respectively. HOC concentrations in the near bottom traps varied much less between trap deployments than HOC concentrations in the surface traps, indicating that the chemical composition of the resuspended particles collected in the near bottom traps was more time-averaged by repeated resuspension than the surface particles.  相似文献

The hydrological and hydrochemical parameters of the Tumen River estuary were collected at 13 stations in May and October 2015. Vertical temperature, conductivity, dissolved oxygen, chlorophyll fluorescence, and turbidity profiles were obtained. Water was sampled from the surface and bottom layer. The water samples were analyzed for major ions, pH, salinity, concentrations of dissolved oxygen, major nutrients, dissolved organic carbon, humic matter, and δ18О and δD isotopes. This estuary is attributed to microtidal type with a flushing time of about 10 h. A phytoplakton bloom occurred in the top layer of the estuary. For surface horizons, the hydrochemical parameters show a linear correlation with salinity. In the bottom horizons, all these parameters, except for major ions and δ18О and δD isotopes, reveal substantial nonconservative behavior. The nonconservative behavior of the hydrochemical parameters in the bottom waters was mainly caused by degradation of the phytoplankton biomass at the water/sediment interface. Hypoxic conditions were established in the bottom waters of the estuary in May.  相似文献

The report presents the results of hydrophysical and hydrochemical studies in Blagopoluchiya Bay (Novaya Zemlya Archipelago) based on data of integrated expeditions of the Institute of Oceanology in the Kara Sea in 2007, 2013, and 2014. The main focus was the influence of the Ob and Yenisei rivers, as well as of the runoff of meltwaters from the coasts of the archipelago on the hydrochemical and hydrophysical structures of the bay waters. The features of water exchange between the bay and adjacent aquatic area are considered, along with the renewal mechanisms for deep waters in the bay (deeper than 100 m). The possible occurrence of stagnant effects in deep layers of the bay is evaluated.  相似文献

On the basis of field studies executed in May 2008, we performed the analysis of the distribution of silicon in waters of the Sevastopol Bay under conditions of the formation of a seasonal thermocline. We discuss differences in the distributions of silicon in the surface and bottom layers, including the zone of mixing of river and sea waters. We noticed a significant difference in values of the coefficients of correlation between the concentration of silicon and the salinity for the surface and bottom layers. For bottom layer, we obtain large values of the coefficients of correlation between the concentration of silicon and other hydrochemical characteristics which are explained by the influence of the processes of transformation of organic substance.  相似文献

The data on the qualitative and quantitative variability of the organic matter (OM) and its transformation rates in the waters of the Ob Inlet during different seasons are considered. The OM distribution was quite nonuniform over the entire Ob Inlet aquatic area: the concentrations of Corg varied from 2.8 to 14.1 mg/L and from 0.32 to 4.59 mg/L for the dissolved and particulate forms, respectively. The maximum concentrations of dissolved OM were registered in the main flow of the Ob River water supplied to the bay, whereas the minimum concentrations were characteristic for the near-bottom layers formed by the Kara Sea waters of high salinity in the northern part of the bay. Both in the summer and in the autumn, the fraction of particulate matter within the total OM reached its maximum values in the mixing zone of the Taz and Ob riverine waters, as well as in the mixing zone of the Ob River and Kara Sea waters. These boundary zones were characterized by the widest variability of the elemental (C: N: P) and biochemical (proteins and carbohydrates) composition of the OM, as well as of its transformation rates measured by the activities of the enzymes (alkaline phosphatase and the electron transport system).  相似文献

This paper presents an ecological modelling of the Bay of Seine (Eastern Channel) over the last twenty years, chosen as a typical case of eutrophication in a river plume. In the physical sub-model, the Bay is divided into 42 boxes and water fluxes between them are calculated automatically using Ifremer's “Elise” software. A two-layer, vertical thermohaline model is then linked with the horizontal circulation scheme in order to take vertical stratification into account. The biological submodel deals with two chemical elements, nitrogen and silicon, and splits phytoplankton into diatoms and flagellates. Results from this ecological model point out the spatial concordance of highest phytoplanktonic concentrations with the river plume spreading in the bay. Contrary to diatoms, flagellate production appears to be mainly confined to the eastern bay, due to the vertical haline stratification in front of the river mouth. As far as the whole bay is concerned, the interannual fluctuations of diatom production are related to the level of spring insolation, whereas silicon inputs regulate diatom production in the river plume. The flagellate summer production in the plume is enhanced by high water temperature and high N/Si ratios, which appear during dry years with low discharge regimes. Finally, interannual increase of flagellate production could be related to gradual increase of nitrogen loadings, contrasting with silicon loadings, which remained stable for twenty years.  相似文献

A study was conducted to understand the mechanisms driving observed subtidal variability in the stratification of Saldanha Bay, located in the southern Benguela system. It was found that the 6–8 day period variability in bay stratification was caused by the inflow and outflow of cold upwelled water driven by changing baroclinic pressure gradients between the coastal and bay domains. The direction and magnitude of the pressure gradients were governed by coastal upwelling activity and a lag in the response of the bay to changes in density structure in the coastal ocean. When the pressure gradients were bayward and cold water was being driven into the bay the cycle was termed to be in an ‘ active phase ’ and the reverse was termed the ‘ relaxation phase ’. The upwelling-favourable equatorward wind stress impacted the bay stratification in two ways: on the regional scale, wind drives upwelling and governs the inflow–outflow of cold upwelled bottom water, which strengthens stratification; conversely, on the local bay scale, wind drives vertical mixing, which weakens stratification. A four-phase model is used to describe the observed variability in stratification in the bay. The associated density-driven exchange flows are capable of flushing the bay in 6–8 days, about one-third of the time for tidal exchange alone (c. 25 days). These inflows of cold bottom water are ecologically critical as they supply nutrients to the bay and thus impose a control on new production within the bay environment. Further ecological implications of this bay–ocean exchange include export of phytoplankton new production to the coast, limitation of the risk of harmful algal blooms (HABs) and the division of the system into two distinct ecosystems (bay and lagoon).  相似文献

On the basis of the experimental data accumulated in 1998–2005, we analyzed the space and time variations of the carbonate system of waters and the content of organic carbon in bottom sediments of the Sevastopol Bay. The intensity of gas exchange through the water-atmosphere interface was quantitatively estimated. It was shown that the partial pressure of carbon dioxide pCO2 in waters of the bay became much higher for the period of observations. The maximum changes were observed in summer. They were especially pronounced for the bottom layer of waters. For the entire period of observations, the invasion of carbon dioxide CO2 was predominant in the major part of the bay, and the content of organic carbon in the bottom sediments increased. The paper summarizes results on the content and composition of aliphatic hydrocarbons (HCs) in suspended particulate matter (SPM) and bottom sediments in the Kara, Laptev, and East Siberian seas obtained in 2015–2018. It was established that the “losses” in HC concentrations in surface waters in the river (Ob, Yenisei, Lena, Khatanga, Indigirka, Kolyma) and seawater mixing zone in some cases exceeded their river removal by 90%. The composition of HCs in surface waters depends on the characteristics of the river catchment area, sampling season. and time of day (high/low tide) and basically coincides with the SPM distribution. In the pelagic zone of the seas, the HC content is close to the background (2–7 μg/L). The influence of anthropogenic input was established only in the Gulf of Ob, where the composition of alkanes is close to oil with a HC content of 86 μg/mg SPM. In bottom sediments, the particle size distribution determines the HCs, and terrigenous n-alkanes play the dominant role in the molecular composition.

The objective of this research is to describe physical processes which are the cause of the recent variability of the Pacific western subarctic waters. Rapid thermohaline changes have occurred within the Oyashio and Kamchatka Current during the last decade. This variability has included a warming of the Kamchatka Current warm intermediate layer, but a cooling and freshening of the upper layer in the Oyashio and Sea of Okhotsk. The example presented here uses data obtained during the Canada/Russia INPOC and WOCE projects, as well as the new Russian studies with high resolution station grid.The possible physical mechanism that generated the upper layer freshening during the thermohaline transition is examined. Major components of the fresh water budget of the Okhotsk Sea are considered in order to describe the dramatic changes in salinity which have recently occurred in the Pacific subarctic. Significant changes in precipitation and other fresh water inputs are demonstrated. It is suggested that upper layer of the Oyashio and Kamchatka Current became cooler and fresher because of the export of cold, fresher waters from the Bering and Okhotsk seas. These waters from the marginal seas have cooled the bottom of the halocline, reducing evaporation and acting as a feedback that has kept the upper layer of the western subarctic boundary currents fresh. It is also shown that the outflow of the cold Sea of Okhotsk water has changed its path during this recent thermohaline transition.  相似文献

We construct a one-dimensional nonstationary isopycnic model of vertical exchange in the Black Sea with regard for the processes of draining and transformation of waters of the Sea of Marmara (or “plume”), vertical diffusion, and the action of winter convection in the upper layer. It is assumed that mixing in the basin is local in space and time and that the winter wind action remains constant from year to year in the analyzed version of the model. The temperature of the upper mixed layer introduced to simulate the winter conditions is regarded as the principal external variable factor. Within the framework of the accepted restrictions, the model enables us to study the annual and interannual variability of the thermohaline characteristics and hydrochemical parameters in the water column of the sea. 根据1979年的胶州湾水域调查资料,分析了重金属铬在胶州湾水域的分布、迁移和季节变化。研究结果表明;春季,胶州湾水城铬污染较轻,大部分海域水质状况较好,而到夏季没有受到污染。在时空分布上,春季,铬污染形成了明显的梯度,由东北向西南方向递减,从112.3μg/L降低到0.2μg/L。夏季,铬的水平分布比较均匀,表层水体铬的含量较低,范围在0.10~1.40μg/L之间波动。因此认为,1979年整个胶州湾水域的重金属铬属于面污染源。而且,当铬进入胶州湾海域后,很快吸附在水体中的悬浮颗粒上,并被水流较快地带离胶州湾水城,几乎没有在胶州湾水域表、底层留下污染痕迹。  相似文献

Seven intrathermocline lenses (ITLs) of Mediterranean origin have been found during three cruises of the R/VArnold Veimer in the eastern north Atlantic Ocean. As ITL moved off its source, relative conservativity of some thermohaline characteristics such as the density range occupied by the lenses, theT, S indices, the core's vertical structure, and the form of the thermohaline front were observed. In the region of mixing, the intensity of the finestructure intrusion stratification increases with the age of lenses when they propagate to the colder freshened background waters. The hydrochemical features of Ob Inlet in the open-water time were characterized using the data of the surveys during two seasons of different water content. The inlet was subdivided into the “riverine,” “marine,” and intermediate areas being different in the factors determining their hydrochemical regime. The processes occurring in each of the distinguished areas were considered in detail. Special attention was paid to the hydrochemical features in the mixing area of the fresh and saline waters (the frontal zone) within the periods of the maximum and minimum biological activity in the aquatic area of Ob Inlet.  相似文献

The peculiarities of the vertical fine thermohaline structure of waters in the north-west Tropical Atlantic are considered on the data of STD surveys recorded in winter-spring 1984. The variability of the characteristics of staircase and inversion elements of stratification with depth is analysed over the horizontal as well as related to the mesoscale and large-scale dynamics of waters. The coefficients of horizontal turbulent exchange are estimated within the framework of Joyce's hypothesis on quasi-compensation of vertical and turbulent horizontal transport. Analytical data based on hydrological observations (34th cruise of the R/VAkademik Vernadsky) are used to show that the basic element contributing to oceanic circulation is the well-developed North Equatorial countercurrent. The latter is considered as a frontal zone separating two structures of water mass. It has been demonstrated that in the salinity field—besides the meridional exchange of subtropical and Antarctic waters—the zonal advection of low-salinity waters also plays an essential role. The water masses have been specified, their parameters determined, and volumes calculated.
