The rapid growth of wireless network technology such as HSDPA and WiMAX, has lead to greater demand for access to Internet via mobile hosts. Supporting mobile connection with fast and smooth roaming across heterogeneous wireless technologies has been an important challenge over past years. In this paper, a novel multilayer scheme for QoS-aware intra-domain mobility management is proposed. The mobility support capability is embedded in key components for the domain access network, namely, the Paging Access Routers and the Mobility-support Anchor Servers (MASs). The MASs are organized in three layers; starting from the top layer Superior-MASs, Middle-MASs and Inferior-MASs, respectively. The proposed scheme identified mobility support functionality, includes intra-domain anchor specification, route optimization algorithm, intra/inter-anchor mobility support, paging and authentication management. Simulation results of the proposed scheme show fair performance especially in the presence of QoS sensitive services.  相似文献

This paper describes a reservation protocol to provide real-time services to mobile users in an Integrated Services Packet Network. Mobility of hosts has significant impact on the quality of service provided to a real-time application. The currently proposed network system architecture and mechanisms to provide real-time services to fixed hosts are inadequate to accommodate the mobile hosts which can frequently change their point of attachments to the fixed network. Mobile hosts may experience wide variations of quality of service due to mobility. To reduce the impacts of mobility on QoS guarantees, a mobile host needs to make advance resource reservations at multiple locations it may possibly visit during the lifetime of the connection. The currently proposed reservation protocol in the Internet, RSVP, is not adequate to make such reservations for mobile hosts. In this paper, we describe a new reservation protocol, MRSVP, for supporting integrated services in a network with mobile hosts.  相似文献

In wireless networks, mobile hosts must update the network with their current location in order to get packets delivered. Paging facilitates efficient power management at the mobile host by allowing the host to update the network less frequently at the cost of providing the network with only approximate location information. The network determines the exact location of a mobile host through paging before delivering packets destined to the mobile host. In this paper, we propose the concept of paging as an IP service. IP paging enables a common infrastructure and protocol to support the different wireless interfaces such as CDMA, GPRS, wireless LAN, avoiding the duplication of several application layer paging implementations and the inter-operability issues that exist today. We present the design, implementation, and detailed qualitative and quantitative evaluation, using measurements and simulation, of three IP-based paging protocols for mobile hosts.  相似文献

To overcome the inherent limitations of the current Internet architecture, such as lack of mobility support and security mechanism, research has begun on future Internet based on ID/locator split architecture. For the realization of future networks, it is necessary to consider the characteristics of their services and applications, as well as research on their basic architectures. The representative services include Cooperative Intelligent Transportation System (C-ITS) applications based on vehicle-to-vehicle/vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2V/V2I) communication which can prevent vehicular accidents, increase the efficiency of transportation systems, and reduce environmental pollution, all while improving passenger convenience. Since C-ITS services using V2I communication are tightly connected to both passenger and pedestrian safety, they require not only continuous network access but also secure communication regardless of the vehicle mobility. To provide continuous network access and secure communication to moving vehicles in future networks based on an ID/locator split approach, authentication and location updates of moving vehicles should be frequently performed, which results in significant signaling overhead. Therefore, to integrate V2I communication with an ID/locator split approach based on the (R1) HIMALIS architecture, in this paper we propose a novel mobility management scheme, called HIMALIS-VI, which can contribute to a delay reduction for the authentication and mitigating handover procedures at both the mobile hosts and network entities in an edge network.  相似文献

代理移动IPv6为移动节点提供了基于网络的移动性管理方法,移动节点不参与管理移动性信令.为了在移动互联网络中应用代理移动IPv6协议,需要定义安全有效的认证协议.目前还没有见到关于代理移动IPv6认证协议方面的研究,本文提出了一种代理移动IPv6的认证协议,该认证协议可以提供接入认证功能,并可防止重放攻击和密钥暴露.为了分析该认证协议的性能,本文给出了认证费用和认证延迟分析的解析模型,分析了移动性和流量参数对认证费用和认证延迟的影响.研究结果表明提出的代理移动IPv6认证协议安全有效.  相似文献

The growth of wireless networking is enabling many Internet hosts to become mobile. This article describes and compares three alternatives for providing host mobility managment in IP-based networks. We first summarize the operation and behavior of Mobile IP, on which the Internet Engineering Task Force has focused as a host mobility solution. We next describe two alternative architectures (Migrate and host identity protocol) for providing mobility management. Integration of ad hoc networks with the Internet provides global Internet connectivity for ad hoc hosts through the coordination of mobile IP and ad hoc protocols. In a pure ad hoc network, it is difficult to establish trust relationship between two ad hoc hosts due to lack of infrastructure or centralized administration. In this paper, an infrastructure‐supported and distributed authentication protocol is proposed to enhance trust relationships amongst ad hoc hosts. In addition, an effective secure routing protocol (SRP) is discussed to protect the multi‐hop route for Internet and ad hoc communication. In the integrated ad hoc networks with Internet accessibility, the ad hoc routing security deployed with the help of infrastructure has a fundamental impact on ad hoc hosts in term of Internet access, integrity, and authentication. The Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) was designed to allow the frequent allocation of resources and configuration information useful to Internet hosts at boot time, including Internet addresses in particular. It turns out that getting a new Internet address is crucial to the problem of enabling the movement of Internet hosts from one network to another, and thus DHCP is quite relevant to the problem of providing seamless, transparent mobility to Internet hosts. We decided to investigate the ways that DHCP could be of assistance in this regard. Since the DHCP protocol was not itself designed for the purpose of providing host mobility, a number of problems arise. Our experience with deploying DHCP, and our proposed mechanisms for the use of DHCP with mobile computers, are the subjects of this paper.  相似文献

Mobility management and quality-of-service (QoS) provisioning are the important tasks on the future development of wireless networks. The high host mobility makes these tasks more challenging. In this paper, we propose an architecture which supports both mobility and QoS management in Internet protocol (IP)-based wireless networks. In mobility management, the fast handoff, which the packets are forwarded in advance to the neighboring locations where a mobile node (MN) may move to, is provided to reduce the service disruption. Also, the fast location lookup, which the routing information about a MN is replicated to some routers, is provided to avoid the triangular routing problem incurred by the protocol of mobile IP. In QoS provisioning, we enable the end-to-end QoS guarantee by using the resource reservation protocol (RSVP) signaling. In particular, the RSVP aggregation technique is used to avoid the scalability problem. Also, the technique of passive resource reservation is used to reduce the influence of host mobility on the resource reservation delay. We emphasize the integration of mobility and QoS management in the architecture design. A performance analysis is given to justify the benefits of our proposed architecture.  相似文献

With the provision of various wireless services, e.g., third-generation (3G) and wireless local area network (WLAN), more and more people request to access the Internet anywhere at anytime. For example, people want to check their e-mails on the bus or watch online news while traveling in the train. For this purpose, the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) proposed the concept of network mobility, i.e., a set of users move as a unit. We motivate the network mobility problem by considering the state-of-the-art scenario of the network mobility (NEMO) basic support protocol that is extended from the Mobile IPv6 (MIPv6). In order to avoid the same problems suffered by MIPv6, a new session initiation protocol (SIP)-based network mobility management scheme called SIP-NEMO is designed and proposed in this paper. The proposed SIP-NEMO not only copes with the movement of a mobile network but also achieves the route optimization between two SIP clients without too many signaling messages over wireless links, even if the mobile network is nested. In this paper, we also analytically compute and simulate the performance of SIP-NEMO with the NEMO basic support protocol proposed by the IETF.  相似文献

The SSL/TLS protocol is a de-facto standard that has proved its effectiveness in the wired Internet and it will probably be the most promising candidate for future heterogeneous wireless environments. In this paper, we propose potential solutions that this protocol can offer to future “all-IP” heterogeneous mobile networks with particular emphasis on the user's side. Our approach takes into consideration the necessary underlying public key infrastructure (PKI) to be incorporated in future 3G core network versions and is under investigation by 3GPP. We focus on the standard 3G+ authentication and key agreement (AKA), as well as the recently standardized extensible authentication protocol (EAP)-AKA procedures and claim that SSL-based AKA mechanisms can provide for an alternative, more robust, flexible and scalable security framework. In this 3G+ environment, we perceive authentication as a service, which has to be performed at the higher protocol layers irrespectively of the underlying network technology. We conducted a plethora of experiments concentrating on the SSL's handshake protocol performance, as this protocol contains demanding public key operations, which are considered heavy for mobile devices. We gathered measurements over the GPRS and IEEE802.11b networks, using prototype implementations, different test beds and considering battery consumption. The results showed that the expected high data rates on one hand, and protocol optimisations on the other hand, can make SSL-based authentication a realistic solution in terms of service time for future mobile systems.  相似文献

We present alternative designs for efficiently supporting multicast for mobile hosts on the Internet. Methods for separately supporting multicasting and mobility along with their possible interactions are briefly described, and then various solutions to the combined problem are explored. We examine three different multicast delivery mechanisms and compare them based on their efficiency and impact on host protocol software. We describe proposals for integrating multicasting and mobility in the Internet architecture. We first present IP extensions for host mobility and other extensions for multicasting. We then examine local multicasting mechanisms, focusing on a group membership protocol that is optimized for wireless point-to-point links. Next, we examine the problems of sending and receiving multicast datagrams in a wide area network. For multicast reception, we describe three alternative proposals and compare them by examining both their applicability and their performance, as well as possible tradeoffs among the two  相似文献

因特网技术的普及,使得人们实现了网际通信和信息共享,但基于有线方式的Internet受到空间和时间的限制,无法满足用户随时随地能够接入因特网的要求,这成为研究移动主机路由协议的驱动力.移动IP是一种简单、可扩展的全球IP移动性的解决方案,但三角路由问题的存在带来了网络花费问题和性能问题.路由优化移动IP协议是解决移动IP相关问题的侯选协议之一.本文对两种协议进行了理论分析和仿真.结果表明,是否采用路由优化协议,不能一概而论,要根据网络及业务到达特征决定.另外,两种协议都不能很好地支持将来的微小区带来的频繁切换,而解决该问题就是我们下一步的研究方向.  相似文献

This paper proposes an integrated handover authentication for NGN equipped with FMIPv6-based IP mobility over various kinds of access links. In ITU-T, an integrated authentication model has been introduced to support network attachment with mobility in NGN. Since existing studies for handover authentication have focused on the link layer or network layer respectively, there are additional authentication overhead such as duplicated authentication procedures and authentication messages delivery cost. The proposed integrated handover authentication contributes to reducing complexity of the authentication procedure and to enhancing the efficiency of it by means of the combined key management architecture; a mobile node generates a handover key to transfer it to the next access router through the AAA server, and hierarchical key management scheme addresses the locality of movement to authenticate the mobile node at the link layer. The evaluation of the handover authentication costs shows that it reduces the average number of handover authentication events and the authentication message delivery cost during moves in mobile networks. Also, the security aspects of the proposed scheme are discussed.  相似文献

In this paper, we propose a bandwidth-efficient multicast mechanism for heterogeneous wireless networks. We reduce the bandwidth cost of an Internet protocol (IP) multicast tree by adaptively selecting the cell and the wireless technology for each mobile host to join the multicast group. Our mechanism enables more mobile hosts to cluster together and leads to the use of fewer cells to save the scarce wireless bandwidth. Besides, the paths in the multicast tree connecting to the selected cells share more common links to save the wireline bandwidth. Our mechanism supports the dynamic group membership and offers mobility of group members. Moreover, our mechanism requires no modification to the current IP multicast routing protocols. We formulate the selection of the cell and the wireless technology for each mobile host in the heterogeneous wireless networks as an optimization problem. We use integer linear programming to model the problem and show that the problem is NP-hard. To solve the problem, we propose a distributed algorithm based on Lagrangean relaxation and a network protocol based on the algorithm. The simulation results show that our mechanism can effectively save the wireless and wireline bandwidth as compared to the traditional IP multicast.  相似文献

Many recent mobility solutions, including derivatives of the well‐known Mobile IP as well as emerging protocols employed by future Internet architectures, propose to realize mobility management by distributing anchoring nodes (Home Agents or other indirection agents) over the Internet. One of their main goals is to address triangle routing by optimizing routes between mobile nodes and correspondent nodes. Thus, a key component of such proposals is the algorithm to select proper mobility anchoring nodes for mobile nodes. However, most current solutions adopt a single‐anchoring approach, which means each mobile node attaches to a sole mobility anchor at one time. In this paper, “we argue that the single‐anchoring approach has drawbacks when facing various mobility scenarios. Then, we offer a novel multi‐anchoring approach that allows each mobile node to select an independent mobility anchor for each correspondent node. We show that in most cases our proposal gains more performance benefits with an acceptable additional cost by evaluation based on real network topologies. For the cases that lead to potential high cost, we also provide a lightweight version of our solution which aims to preserve most performance benefits while keeping a lower cost. Network mobility introduces far more complexity than host mobility. Therefore, host mobility protocols such as Mobile IPv6 (MIPv6) need to be extended to support this new type of mobility. To address the extensions needed for network mobility, the IETF NEMO working group has recently standardized the network mobility basic support protocol in RFC 3963. However, in this RFC, it is not mentioned how authentication authorization and accounting (AAA) issues are handled in NEMO environment. Also, the use of IPsec to secure NEMO procedures does not provide robustness against leakage of stored secrets. To address this security issue and to achieve AAA with mobility, we propose new handover procedures to be performed by mobile routers and by visiting mobile nodes. This new handover procedure is based on leakage resilient-authenticated key establishment (LR-AKE) protocol. Using analytical models, we evaluate the proposed handover procedure in terms of handover delay which affects the session continuity. Our performance evaluation is based on transmission, queueing and encryption delays over wireless links.  相似文献
