The present paper proposes an approach for including the finite capacity constraint in the EOQ model (and, in more general terms, in inventory systems) to study the context of single-machine multi-item systems. In particular, the proposed approach regulates the processing of different items by a shared resource according to a control model based on an ordering policy that combines the Economic Order Quantity with a policy based on minimum and maximum inventory levels (min–max policy). To achieve such a challenging result, the present work exploits the analogy between “switched arrival systems” (a particular class of hybrid systems) and min-max inventory systems. The development and parameterization of the abovementioned control model, therefore, refers to switched arrival systems control theory and mixed-integer linear programming. The present work also contributes to the integration of static tools (i.e., the EOQ model) and control tools, approaching these areas. The paper concludes with a real case application that illustrates the proposed approach and allows for a future research path to be drawn.  相似文献

This article develops a model to determine an optimal integrated vendor-buyer inventory policy for flawed items in a just-in-time (JIT) manufacturing environment. The aim is to minimize the total joint annual costs incurred by the vendor and the buyer. The proposed model extends the integrated vendor-buyer inventory model by accounting for imperfect quality items. The expected annual integrated total cost function is derived and an analytic solution procedure is proposed to determine the optimal policy. Finally, numerical examples are also given to illustrate the solution procedure presented in this article.  相似文献

This study investigates how lot sizing techniques influence the profit performance, inventory level, and order lardiness of an assembly job shop controlled by MRP. Four single-level lot sizing techniques are compared by simulation analysis under two levels of master schedule instability and two levels of end item demand. A second analysis investigates the influence of a multilevel lot sizing technique, the generalized constrained-K (GCK) cost modification, on the four single-level techniques at low demand and low nervousness. The analyses reveal a previously unreported phenomenon. Given the same inventory costs, the single-level lot sizing techniques generate substantially different average batch sizes. The lot sizing techniques maintain the following order of increasing average batch size (and decreasing total setup time):

economic order quantity (EOQ)

period order quantity (POQ)

least total cost (LTC)

Silver-Meal heuristic (SML)

The causes for different average batch sizes among the lot sizing techniques are analysed and explained. Demand lumpiness, inherent in multilevel manufacturing systems controlled by MRP, is found to be a major factor. The number of setups each lot sizing technique generates is the primary determinant of profit performance, inventory level, and order tardiness. EOQ, a fixed order quantity technique, is less sensitive to nervousness than the discrete lot sizing techniques. EOQ_, however, generates the smallest average batch size, and, therefore, the most setups. Since setups consume capacity, EOQ, is more sensitive to higher demand. SML generates the largest average batch sizes, and is, therefore, less sensitive to increased demand. At low demand, the other lot sizing techniques perform better on all criteria. They generate smaller batches and, therefore, shorter actual lead times. The GCK cost modification increases the average batch size generated by each lot sizing technique. GCK improves the profit and customer service level of EOQ the lot sizing technique with the smallest batches. GCK causes the other lot sizing techniques to generate excessively large batches and, therefore, excessively long actual lead times.  相似文献

Significant progress in production and information technologies and innovations in management of operations during the last couple of decades have made the production of small lots and deployment of Just‐In‐Time (JIT) concepts in flowshops possible. As a result, some researchers and practitioners have been seeking to improve the performance of non‐repetitive systems using JIT concepts. In this process, the JIT concepts that were originally designed for mass production have been modified to adapt JIT to non‐repetitive systems. This article uses a priority rule that is based on real‐time demand and production information for sequencing jobs in a kanban‐controlled flowshop. The analysis of the effect of this priority rule; the number of kanbans; the length of the withdrawal cycle; First‐Come, First‐Served (FCFS); and Shortest Processing Time (SPT) on four performance measures—customer wait time, total inventory, input stock‐point inventory, and output stock‐point inventory, shows that the use of this priority rule results in a significant reduction of customer wait time and a slight decrease in inventory.  相似文献

We present an experimental study of the price‐setting newsvendor problem, which extends the traditional framework by allowing the decision maker to determine both the selling price and the order quantity of a given item. We compare behavior under this model with two benchmark conditions where subjects have a single decision to make (price or quantity). We observe that subjects deviate from the theoretical benchmarks when they are tasked with a single decision. They also exhibit anchoring behavior, where their anchor is the expected demand when quantity is the decision variable and is the initial inventory level when price is the decision variable. When decision makers set quantity and price concurrently, we observe no significant difference between the normative (i.e., expected profit‐maximizing) prices and the decision makers’ price choices. Quantity decisions move further from the normative benchmarks (compared to when subjects have a single decision to make) when the ratio of cost to price is less than half. When this ratio is reversed, there is no significant difference between order levels in single‐ and multi‐task settings. In the multidecision framework, we also observe a tendency to match orders and expected demand levels, which subjects can control using prices.  相似文献

This paper presents an integrated framework for designing profit‐maximizing products/ services, which can also be produced at reasonable operating difficulty levels. Operating difficulty is represented as a function of product and process attributes, and measures a firm's relative ease or difficulty in meeting customer demand patterns under specified operating conditions. Earlier optimum product design procedures have not considered. operational difficulty. We show that optimum profit, market share, cost, and product profiles are dependent on operating difficulty level. Empirical results from the pizza delivery industry demonstrate the value of the proposed Effective Product/Service Design approach.  相似文献

The just-in-time (JIT) system has been studied extensively and implemented by a number of US firms as an ell'ective production system. The core of JIT involves determination of lot size and setup time reduction so as to increase manufacturing flexibility while minimizing the inventory level. This decision problem usually involves multiple conflicting objectives and mixed-model production. In this paper, goal programming (GP) is applied to a real-world JIT problem involving fabrication of different automotive and industrial rubber composite belts. The model results provide new insights concerning the conflicting nature of several goals, especially between meeting demand and reducing setup or idle time. Also, the GP solution is superior to the current JIT practice of the company.  相似文献

Recent advances in approaches and production technologies for the production of goods and services have made just‐in‐time (JIT) a strong alternative for use in intermittent and small batch production systems, especially when time‐based competition is the norm and a low inventory is a must. However, the conventional JIT system is designed for mass production with a stable master production schedule. This paper suggests supplementing the information provided by production kanbans with information about customer waiting lines to be used by operators to schedule production in each work‐station of intermittent and small batch production systems. This paper uses simulation to analyze the effect of four scheduling policy variables—number of kanbans, length of the withdrawal cycle, information about customer waiting lines, and priority rules on two performance measures—customer wait‐time and inventory. The results show that using information about customer waiting lines reduces customer wait‐time by about 30% while also reducing inventory by about 2%. In addition, the effect of information about customer waiting lines overshadows the effect of priority rules on customer wait‐time and inventory.  相似文献

It discusses the planning process, the types of products that can be ff e ectively processed on a JIT line, and the presently available procedures that should be followed when trying to optimize the production line. Estimates of the cost of potential disasters, including indirect economic consequences, are an important input in the design of risk management strategies. The adaptive regional input‐output (ARIO) inventory model is a tool to assess indirect disaster losses and to analyze their drivers. It is based on an input‐output structure, but it also (i) explicitly represents production bottlenecks and input scarcity and (ii) introduces inventories as an additional flexibility in the production system. This modeling strategy distinguishes between (i) essential supplies that cannot be stocked (e.g., electricity, water) and whose scarcity can paralyze all economic activity; (ii) essential supplies that can be stocked at least temporarily (e.g., steel, chemicals), whose scarcity creates problems only over the medium term; and (iii) supplies that are not essential in the production process, whose scarcity is problematic only over the long run and are therefore easy to replace with imports. The model is applied to the landfall of Hurricane Katrina in Louisiana and identifies two periods in the disaster aftermath: (1) the first year, during which production bottlenecks are responsible for large output losses; (2) the rest of the reconstruction period, during which bottlenecks are inexistent and output losses lower. This analysis also suggests important research questions and policy options to mitigate disaster‐related output losses.  相似文献

The bold lines that have separated the application of specific production planning and control techniques to specific production systems are being blurred by continuous advances in production technologies and innovative operational procedures. Oral communication among dispatchers and production units has given way to electronic communication between production planners and these units by continuous progress in information technologies. Current production literature alludes to the idea that, collectively, these advances have paved the way for application of Just‐In‐Time (JIT) production concepts, which were originally developed for mass production systems, in intermittent production systems. But this literature does not actually consider the possibility. This article presents a modification to JIT procedures to make them more suitable for jumbled‐flow shops. This article suggests providing real‐time information about net‐requirements for each product to each work center operator for setting production priorities at each work center. Simulation experiments conducted for this study show that using Net‐Requirements in JIT (NERJIT) reduces customer wait time by 45–60% while reducing inventory slightly. The analysis of work centers’ input and output stock‐point inventories shows that using the information about net‐requirements results in production of items that are in current demand. NERJIT results in smaller input stock‐point inventory and availability of products with higher priority in the output stock‐points of work centers.  相似文献

We consider an inventory model with a supplier offering discounts to a reseller at random epochs. The offer is accepted when the inventory position is lower than a threshold level. We compare three different pricing policies in which demand is induced by the resellers price variation. Policy 1 is the EOQ policy without discount offers. Policy 2 is a uniform price, stock‐independent policy. Policy 3 is a stock level‐dependent, discriminated price policy. Assuming constant demand rates, expressions are obtained for the optimal order quantities, prices, and profits. The numerical experiments show that if it is better to accept a suppliers discount, then it benefits the reseller to transfer the discount to downstream customers.  相似文献

An analytical solution of the EQO is derived using a recent and simple method, which isthe geometric programming approach. This research demonstrates for the first time that in a just-in-time (JIT) quasi-pull production environment, a model adapted from the Economic Order Quantity and made up of two specific formulas can be employed for calculating an optimised lot size. The assumptions of our model are: a low level of defects, and insignificant shortage backordering and failure of the equipment. JIT quasi-pull production is the state typically reached by many manufacturing companies because it is almost impossible to achieve zero set-ups and zero work-in-process (WIPs) even in the best Lean Production implementations. In this model, finished products are shipped at once in a JIT way. The two developed formulas are specialised: one for balanced stations/processes and the other for unbalanced stations; the formulas allow calculation of an optimised lot size. Several applications of the formulas have been tested and discussed through a case study. Findings demonstrated that the optimised quantity of a lot size has to be smaller than the customer’s daily demand for the product. Moreover, in case of unbalanced stations with long cycle times, the formula forces the company to reduce its set-up times and the cycle times. The new model will be of interest to practitioners who are seeking a way to balance the costs of set-ups and the cost of holding some WIPs and offers interesting avenues for new research.  相似文献

In the past, performance in dynamic-scheduling environments was primarily measured in terms of time or physical shop characteristics. Objectives such as mean tardiness, flow time, and work-in-process inventory were commonly used. Today, there is increasing interest in the use of more advanced economic performance measures. These measures have the more comprehensive objective of maximizing ownership wealth by economically scheduling jobs and tasks. This study presents a large-scale experiment testing time-based and economic-based scheduling methods in a dynamic job shop. These methods are evaluated on their ability to maximize net present value (NPV). The study considers the just-in-time (JIT) delivery environment. The job shop is hypothetical, but is based on models of real production situations. Results show that the use of very detailed economic information in a sophisticated manner generally improves economic performance. Where due dates are easy to achieve, however, time-based scheduling methods are at least as good as those based on economics. Also, where utilization is high and due dates tight, early cost information in release and dispatch is detrimental to schedule value.  相似文献

Few studies of just-in-time (JIT) implementation examine their significance in make-to-order manufacturing environments. This study examines the relative importance of several operating variables that are characteristic features of JIT systems within such environments in North America. The results suggest that the most salient features of JIT for make-to-order and assemble-to-order firms are the elimination of waste (in the form of time and defects), reduced setup time, reduced lotsize, and a smaller pool of suppliers. In addition, the results suggest that the use of non-domestic suppliers can possibly hinder efforts at JIT implementation of materials procurement.  相似文献

传统库存模型通常将提前期和构建成本视为不可控制。事实上可以通过追加投资缩短提前期和降低构建成本。缺货期间,为减少订单丢失量和补偿顾客的损失,供应商会给予一定的价格折扣。现实库存系统中,容易得到需求的期望值和标准差,但较难得到其分布规律。基于此,考虑短缺量拖后率与价格折扣和缺货期间库存水平相关,提出了一种需求为任意分布且提前期和构建成本均可控的EOQ模型,证明了模型存在唯一最优解,给出了一种寻优算法。数值仿真分析表明,一般情况下,压缩提前期和降低构建成本能降低订购批量和安全库存,降低库存总成本;短缺量拖后系数和缺货概率对库存总成本影响较大,企业应尽量降低缺货概率,尤其在短缺量拖后系数较小时。  相似文献

This article introduces approaches for identifying key interdependent infrastructure sectors based on the inventory dynamic inoperability input‐output model, which integrates an inventory model and a risk‐based interdependency model. An identification of such key sectors narrows a policymaker's focus on sectors providing most impact and receiving most impact from inventory‐caused delays in inoperability resulting from disruptive events. A case study illustrates the practical insights of the key sector approaches derived from a value of workforce‐centered production inoperability from Bureau of Economic Analysis data.  相似文献
