Objective The purpose of the study was to examine anxiety and depression in primary family caregivers of patients with cancer and to examine related factors that are associated with anxiety and depression of family caregivers. Methods The anxiety was rated with the Serf-Rating Anxiety Scale (SAS) and the depression rated with the Center for Epidemiological Survey,Depression Scale ( CES-D ).The general conditions of the caregivers were collected with questionnaires designed by authors among the 106 primary family earegivers for inpatients having cancer. Results The mean depression scores of caregivers rated by the 106 earegivers themselve for the cancer patients on the CES-D was ( 18.75±9.06),which was significandy higher than that of the normal samples in our country and exhibited a statistical difference (P<0.01).55.7% of caregivers reported depression symptoms. In 106 caregivers, the score from self-rating anxiety scale is ( 33.94±7.09),which was higher than that of the normal samples in our country, having a statistical difference (P<0.01).22.6% of the caregivers reported their SAS scores exceeded thresholds for clinical anxiety. The high anxiety index was significandy associated with the caregivers reported more patients symptoms, and the spouses of the patients were also at the high risk of anxiety. Conclusions A high level of severe anxiety and depression existed in primary family caregivers of cancer patients. The psychological status of caregivers was influenced by many kinds of factors.Health care personnel should actively provide corresponding interventions to improve the level of mental health in family caregivers of patients.

AIM: To study psychovegetative correlations and clinical course of ischemic heart disease (IHD) in men and women. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Personality characteristics (MMPI test), reactive and personal anxiety (Spilberger's questionnaire), severity of depression (Back's questionnaire), vegetative status (vegetative disorders questionnaire), variability of cardiac rhythm (cardiovascular tests) were studied in 60 females and 62 males with IHD. RESULTS: IHD females vs males were characterized by higher neurotization, personal accentuation, more serious anxiety, depression and vegetative disturbances, lower variability of heart rate. IHD in females is more frequent in postmenopause, is characterized by less severe hemodynamically significant coronary stenoses. CONCLUSION: Emotional disorders make a great contribution to a course of ischemic heart disease.

OBJECTIVES: To compare complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) use among adults 65 and older with and without self-reported anxiety or depression, and to investigate the prevalence and predictors of CAM use for treatment by persons with anxiety or depression. DESIGN: Cross-sectional survey. SETTINGS/LOCATION: Computer-assisted interviews conducted in participants' homes. SUBJECTS: Subjects included 5827 adults aged 65 and older who participated in the 2002 National Health Interview Survey including the Alternative Health Supplement. INTERVENTION: None. OUTCOME MEASURES: Overall use of CAM, use of four categories of CAM, and use of 20 CAM modalities. CAM use for treatment of any health condition, and CAM use to treat mental health. RESULTS: Eighty-one and seven tenths percent (81.7%) of older adults with self-reported anxiety or depression who used CAM in the past year, whereas 64.6% of older adults without these conditions used CAM. Differences in CAM use were driven by elevated use of spiritual practices, relaxation techniques, and use of nonvitamin, nonmineral natural products by patients with symptoms of mental conditions. Fewer than 20% of CAM users with self-reported anxiety or depression used CAM for their mental health. Few personal and health-related factors predicted CAM use for treatment among older adults with self-reported anxiety or depression. CONCLUSIONS: Older adults with self-reported anxiety or depression were more likely to use spiritual practices, relaxation techniques, and nonvitamin, nonmineral natural products than elders in good mental health. However, for the majority of older adults with self-reported anxiety or depression, CAM was used for purposes other than treating mental health.  相似文献

AIM: To specify clinical, vegetative and cognitive disorders in hypertensive women depending on the type of menopause. MATERIAL AND METHODS: A total of 195 hypertensive women were divided into three groups: group 1 (n = 50, age 45.6 +/- 4.5 years) consisted of premenopausal women, group 2 (n = 100, age 57.4 +/- 4.7 years) - of women with natural menopause, group 3 (n = 45, age 55.1 +/- 5.9 years)--with early and/or surgical menopause. Severity of the menopausal syndrome, anxiety, depression, alexitimia, mental performance, vegetative regulation of heart rhythm were examined. RESULTS: The premenopausal women were characterized by cardial and cerebral disorders, unaffected psychovegetative function and initial symptoms of lowering mental performance. Hypertensive women with natural menopause showed combination of cardial and cerebral symptoms with moderate anxio-depressive disorders, alexitimia, subnormal parasympathetic activity of the autonomic nervous system in high centralization of heart rhythm regulation and attention disturbances. Patients with surgical and/or early menopause had marked cardial and cerebral symptoms, moderate anxiodepressive disorders, alexitimia, inhibition of mental performance, vegetative dysfunction, overcentralization of heart rhythm control. CONCLUSION: With development of postmenopausal metabolic symptom complex, severity of hypertension grows with emergence of anxiodepressive disorders which combine with vegetative regulation disorders and attenuation of mental performance.  相似文献
