The S.A.G.E. Project

ABSTRACT

This paper describes the process and creation of a library resources and services Web page within WebCT, a course authoring program that is being used to deliver complete course content over the Internet in a distance education program at The Ohio State University. A librarian at the Prior Health Sciences Library was asked to join a faculty team to teach and provide library services for a series of three courses. The students are working health professionals who cannot attend regularly scheduled classes. Illustrations are included of the WebCT course page and the library resources and services page. The initial process and planning are described, and recommendations for future research are identified.     

L.S.I. circuit design

A c.a.d. system for the custom design of CMOS l.s.i. circuits, in use at ASEA-HAFO Sweden, is described. The software is based on programs developed inhouse for nonlinear d.c.- and transient simulation, logic simulation and layout activities, such as digitizing, checking, plotting and photomask data generation. The equipment used includes a PDP-15 minicomputer together with a computer-controlled photomask system and l.s.i. test systems.Twenty-two complex circuits have been designed using the system.

Using a newly developed telemetry system, records of heart-rate reaction of human subjects prior to the rope climb were obtained. The data presented on humans represents support for research by Rushmer, who experimented with dogs in demonstrating the role of the motor cortex in controlling the heart boat and particularly its involvement prior to vigorous exercise. The data consists of telemetered heart rates of 10 gymnasts prior to, during and following a rope climb for speed. The percentage of anticipatory heart rate increase over basal value of post-warm-up for the climb was approximately 25 per cent. This amount of anticipatory heart rate for the 10 subjects unassociated with actual energy expenditure would permit support of Rushmer's theory.     

Transient heat conduction problems using B.I.E.M.

A method, using boundary elements, is presented as a solution to plane transient heat conduction. The proposed method considers the governing equation to be a Helmholtz's equation and solves the problem of time variation using step by step integration. A numerical procedure is developed and its effectiveness verified. Several examples are provided and their results compared with the theoretical ones.
