Subcarrier multiplexing by chaotic multitone modulation is investigated. Optical chaotic light can be achieved by injecting multiple subcarriers into a self-pulsating laser diode. Synchronization between two identical chaotic systems (drive and response) can be implemented provided that the conditional Lyapunov exponents are all negative. By adding amplitude modulation (AM) signals to each subcarrier, the two systems become asymptotically synchronized. The AM signals in each subcarrier can be recovered by the introduction of a filtering process where the Lyapunov exponent of the synchronized error function matches the cutoff frequency of a first order low pass filter.  相似文献

Subcarrier multiplexing for high-speed optical transmission   总被引:4,自引:0,他引:4  
The performance of high-speed digital fiber-optic transmission using subcarrier multiplexing (SCM) is investigated both analytically and numerically. In order to reduce the impact of fiber chromatic dispersion and increase bandwidth efficiency, optical single-sideband (OSSB) modulation was used. Because frequency spacing between adjacent subcarriers can be much narrower than in a conventional DWDM system, nonlinear crosstalk must be considered. Although chromatic dispersion is not a limiting factor in SCM systems because the data rate at each subcarrier is low, polarization mode dispersion (PMD) has a big impact on the system performance if radiofrequency (RE) phase detection is used in the receiver. In order to optimize the system performance, tradeoffs must be made between data rate per subcarrier, levels of modulation, channel spacing between subcarriers, optical power, and modulation indexes. A 10-Gb/s SCM test bed has been set up in which 4 × 2.5 Gb/s data streams are combined into one wavelength that occupies a 20-GHz optical bandwidth. OSSB modulation is used in the experiment. Analytical expressions for the second-order harmonic and the third-order intermodulation distortions of laser diodes with optical feedback are derived. It is shown theoretically and experimentally that optical feedback from the transmission fiber considerably enhances intermodulation and harmonic distortions of laser diodes. Third-order intermodulation distortions up to -15 dBc must be expected for two-tone modulation and low-intensity modulation indexes m≈7% per carrier, which affects the performance of subcarrier multiplexed (SCM) communication systems. To avoid additional distortions the external feedback level must be two orders of magnitudes lower than the critical external feedback level of the laser diode  相似文献

该文提出了一种可应用于具有保护虚载波和直流虚载波的多输入多输出正交频分复用(MIMO-OFDM)系统的分组满分集满速率(GFDFR)空频编码分组方法,并给出了适合GFDFR空时(频)编码系统的混合概率数据关联与球形译码(PDA-SD)硬判检测算法和基于硬判检测结果的邻域搜索软输出检测算法。在此基础上提出了一种基于硬判检测结果的一维邻域搜索软输出检测算法,有效降低了运算复杂度。仿真结果表明,提出的GFDFR空频编码分组方法对保护虚载波数目不敏感,具有较好的鲁棒性和实用价值,相应的硬、软判检测算法均获得了较好的性能。  相似文献

We present a demonstration of subcarrier multiplexing in a lightwave multiple-access network. Three 44 Mbit/s digital signals are transmitted along a single-mode fibre bus by intensity-modulating two 1.3 ?-wavelength, multimode laser diodes with FSK subcarriers, at frequencics between 3.5 and 4.0 GHz. Intermodulation distotion, generated when two or more subcarriers are transmitted by the same laser, does not degrade the tranmission quality.  相似文献

The design and performance of a fiber-optic video distribution system using bi-phase shift keyed (BPSK) microwave subcarriers to provide each subscriber with 20 107 Mb/s digitized video channels and one voice/data channel at 2.048 Mb/s are described. The combined microwave subcarriers are used to intensity-modulate a 1.3 μm single-mode laser, one dedicated to each subscriber. The penalty in system sensitivity resulting from the use of more than one subcarrier is calculated. The design and implementation of subcarrier generation, BPSK modulation, multiplexing/demultiplexing, and subscriber receivers are described. An experiment procedure to obtain an optimum laser driver level is also described. A bit error rate of 10-9 or less is achieved at a received optical power of -12 dB (1 mW) for all channels for each subscriber  相似文献

System concepts for millimeter-wave personal communication systems and the advantages of millimeter-wave band usage are briefly described. Demonstration of broadband millimeter-wave subcarrier transmission concepts over fiber-optic links is performed. Several fiber-optic link architectures, including one using a combination of direct laser modulation and indirect (external) optical modulation, are outlined with respect to signal transmission at millimeter-wave frequencies. Several configurations are experimentally investigated using 70-MHz, 300-MHz, and 26-GHz subcarriers which transmit either FM or QPSK data signals. Additionally, the use of optical MMIC technology, which can result in the design of compact and cost-effective optical receivers, is described with respect to personal communication radio base station equipment. Light-emitting diodes constitute a low-cost choice for optical transmitters in medium-bit-rate optical links. An example for the latter is local-area networks. However, one of the disadvantageous properties of light-emitting diodes is their nonlinear characteristic, which may limit the data transmission performance of the system, especially in the case of multiple subcarrier modulation, which is starting to attract attention in various applications, such as visible-light communications and data transmission over polymer optical fibers. In this paper, the influence of the nonlinear transfer function of the light-emitting diodes on discrete multitone modulation is studied. The transfer function describes the dependence of the emitted optical power on the driving current. Analytical expressions for an idealized link were derived, and these equations allow the estimation of the power of the noise-like, nonlinear crosstalk between the orthogonal subcarriers. The crosstalk components of the quadrature and in-phase subcarrier components were found to be independent and approximately normally distributed. Using these results, the influence of light-emitting-diode nonlinearity on the performance of the system was investigated. The main finding was that systems using a small number of subcarriers and/or high QAM level exhibit a large signal-to-noise-ratio penalty due to the nonlinear crosstalk. The model was applied to systems with white and resonant-cavity light-emitting diodes. It is shown that the nonlinearity may severely limit the performance of the system, particularly in the case of resonant-cavity light-emitting diodes, which exhibit a strong nonlinear behavior.  相似文献

In this letter, the subcarrier fading distribution of multicarrier modulation (MCM) systems is derived based on channel-impulse response (CIR) information. Frequency-selective channels with arbitrary Rician-Rayleigh fading paths and inter-path correlations are considered. It is discovered that certain MCM channels experience different fading severity among the subcarriers. Motivated by this observation, a novel bit-loading cum power-control scheme that can achieve better spectral and power efficiency by adapting the subcarrier modulation parameters based on the long-term subcarrier fading statistics, instead of instantaneous channel state information, is proposed and studied.  相似文献

We report on the experimental demonstration of optical single sideband (SSB) modulation using a directly modulated semiconductor laser under strong optical injection-locking. Modulation sidebands with 15-dB power ratio between the lower and upper sidebands have been achieved. The longer wavelength sideband is resonantly amplified by the injection-locked laser cavity mode. The radio-frequency performance of the optical SSB after 80-km fiber transmission is significantly improved compared with a typical symmetric sideband modulation of a free-running laser. A 622-Mb/s data transmission on a 20-GHz subcarrier is demonstrated over an 80-km fiber link.  相似文献

基于国内的CMOS技术和EDA工具以及全定制的设计方法,采用无锡华晶上华(CSMC-HJ)0.6μm CMOS技术实现了可工作于155Mb/s、622Mb/s的激光驱动器.该激光驱动器在50Ω负载上输出电流摆幅从0到50mA可调.在输出级3V直流偏置时最大输出电压摆幅可达2.5Vpp.输出电压脉冲的上升、下降时间分别小于471ps和444ps.四个工作速率下均方根抖动都小于30ps.电路在5V单电源供电时功耗小于410mW.芯片测试结果表明,该激光驱动器达到了世界同类集成电路的水平.  相似文献

Theoretical work on single barrier varactor (SBV) diodes indicates that the efficiency of a tripler with a SBV diode has a maximum for a considerably smaller capacitance variation than previously thought. SBV diodes based on GaAs, InGaAs and InAs have been fabricated and their DC properties have been tested. Detailed modeling of the carrier transport properties of the SBV device is carried out in two steps. First, the semiconductor transport equations are solved simultaneously, using a finite difference scheme in one dimension. Second, the calculated I -V and C-V characteristics are used by a multiplier simulator to calculate the optimum impedances and output powers at the frequencies of interest. The authors have developed an analysis technique which complements the harmonic balance technique. Simulations for a case study of a 750-GHz multiplier show that InAs diodes perform favorably compared to GaAs diodes  相似文献

A comparative study is given on the dynamic properties existing between a GaAs-AlGaAs multi-quantum-well (MQW) laser diode fabricated from an MBE-grown wafer and a conventional double-heterostructure laser diode. Spectral broadening and wavelength shift associated with deep injection current modulation were found to be much smaller in MQW laser diodes than in conventional DH laser diodes.  相似文献

The probability of an SCM (subcarrier multiplexed) signal falling outside the linear region of a laser diode is calculated in order to determine the overmodulation that may be practically employed for multichannel video distribution in single-octave SCM networks. The overmodulation is predicted as a function of the number of subcarriers in single-octave SCM systems supporting up to about 70 FM video channels, for SNRs (signal-to-noise ratios) of 47 dB (I/PAL), and 56 dB (M/NTSC). The RMS optical modulation index (OMI) is demonstrated to be a more useful performance parameter than the linear OMI in SCM systems carrying a large number of channels. A 47 dB weighted SNR (with 4 dB margin) is deemed sufficient for acceptable picture quality in cable distribution systems, whereas a 56 dB value would be required for long-distance point-to-point optical links. We report the development of a tunable laser diode array monolithically integrated with a Y-coupler structure based on photonic crystals. The laser diodes consist of two longitudinally coupled photonic crystal waveguide segments that are separated by a photonic crystal mirror section. Quasicontinuous tuning is achieved in a 30.6-nm window with 100-GHz channel spacing as typically required by wavelength-division-multiplexing applications. The sources can be operated independently allowing the simultaneous transmission of two freely selectable wavelengths.  相似文献

An optical layer solution for implementing multiple virtual private networking capabilities over a passive optical network using subcarrier multiplexed (SCM) transmission is proposed and experimentally demonstrated with 60-Mb/s data multiplexed with two radio-frequency subcarriers. The transmission of the SCM data is carried out using Fabry–PÉrot laser diodes. Experimental results and theoretical analysis show that our technique can potentially support high data rate traffic from a large number of simultaneous virtual private networks with minimal penalty resulting from optical beat interference.  相似文献

研究了协作正交频分复用系统的中继方案,提出了OFDM协作分集系统中的子载波选择算法,根据子信道信息,在容量准则下,选择可以提高系统容量的子载波,以放大前传的方式转发源节点信息。仿真结果表明,在中继节点功率与源节点功率较低或中继节点靠近源或目的节点时,所有子载波都采用中继传输可降低系统容量;子载波选择算法可以改善系统容量,并且选择合适的中继节点发射功率和中继位置,可以显著提高系统容量,当中继节点位于源与目的节点中点时,系统容量最大。  相似文献

This paper describes the design of a high speed semiconductor laser diode driver designed for driving 500 mW to 1.5 W diodes at full optical power modulation up to frequencies of 10 MHz. The duty cycle of the modulation may be varied. A switching power-converter based current source allows a higher power delivery efficiency to the diode than in previous designs, allowing for a more modest power supply and dissipation requirements. A dynamic ripple cancellation circuit reduces the power converter output current ripple to less than 1% of full-scale current. The circuit is capable of delivering up to 2.5 A to a laser load, with a 10-90% switching risetime from laser threshold to full on of less than 20 ns  相似文献
