We present an implementation of a policy-based management architecture for emerging communications and computing paradigms such as Active Networks and the Grid. To manage such open, highly distributed and decentralized environments, an approach based on policy concepts is adopted, allowing support for active, dynamic adaptability in network elements, services and end-user applications, as well as achieving decentralization and distribution. We present our flexible, extensible policy and event specifications in XML, and describe our management architecture. One key feature of our approach is the distributed infrastructure: the Directory and the Management Information Distribution system. The second feature is the Resource and Security Management elements residing on the multi-node managed systems. These combine to provide a light-weight, self-organizing management architecture. As an applications example, we describe the implementation of our management system applied to the Application Level Active Networking (ALAN) environment, implemented in the European Commission Information Society Technologies (IST) project ANDROID. 相似文献

This paper describes an architecture for management services. The architecture consists of a number of small components, each performing a highly specialized task. Together, they form a dynamic, highly automated, yet integrated management system. The components are plug-and-play services that use Jini to dynamically establish communication links among themselves and form transient management federations. Our architecture is built around a configuration service which provides for consistent configuration of managed resources. We identify a number of common management scenarios and demonstrate how they can be supported by our system. 相似文献

New information processing service structures based on client-server concepts gain growing importance in both scientific and commercial computing because theyprovide a high flexibility with respect to the positioning of building blocks of a distributed application. The price for this flexibility, however, is a more complex system management. The paper discusses the new management requirements in a cooperative computing environment. The management platforms needed in this context must provide appropriate models for cooperation, services for supporting distributed management applications and an information model as a basis for the modeling of resources relevant to system management. The vision of the Internet of Things (IoT) foresees a future Internet incorporating smart physical objects that offer hosted functionality as IoT services. These services when integrated with the traditional enterprise level services form the creation of ambient intelligence for a wide range of applications. To facilitate seamless access and service life cycle management of large, distributed and heterogeneous IoT resources, service oriented computing and resource oriented approaches have been widely used as promising technologies. However, a reference architecture integrating IoT services into either of these two technologies is still an open research challenge. In this article, we adopt the resource oriented approach to provide an end-to-end integration architecture of front-end IoT devices with the back-end business process applications. The proposed architecture promises a programmer friendly access to IoT services, an event management mechanism to propagate context information of IoT devices, a service replacement facility upon service failure, and a decentralized execution of the IoT aware business processes. 相似文献

近年来研究者着重于信任管理模型的研究,如何把信任管理模型集成到分布式应用系统中,需要深入探讨。在分析现有的信任管理体系结构基础上,结合面向服务的体系结构(SOA)和信任管理模型的固有特性,提出了分布式应用环境中的信任管理模型体系结构。同时,提出了基于相对熵的推荐信息过滤方法。在多代理仿真平台RePast上,实现了提出的体系结构和推荐信息过滤方法,并与其他推荐信息过滤方法进行了比较。 相似文献

The use of Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) is one of the major trends in the integrated broadband communications environment. Currently, the control and management of VPN resources is mainly supported by the provider of the bearer telecommunication services, and VPN customers have no control over these resources. The increasing importance of the broadband communication infrastructure in corporate operations and transactions is stressing the requirement for a customizable configuration, operation and management of VPN services. First, this paper discusses the evolution of VPN environments towards customized VPN configurations and goal-driven management of these VPNs. VPN service characteristics and management requirements are analyzed. Then, the paper introduces the proposed customer management architecture satisfying these requirements. The architecture is based on the multi-level virtualization of network resources through the partitioning of resources in the provider's shared communication infrastructure and the dynamic allocation of these resources to customers. Computer support for cooperative work requires the construction of applications that support interaction by multiple users. The highly dynamic and flexible nature of cooperative work makes the need for rapid user-interface prototyping a central concern. We have designed and developed a software architecture that provides mechanisms to support rapid multiuser-interface construction and distributed user-interface management. Rapid prototyping requires mechanisms that make the information determining interface configuration visible, accessible, and tailorable. We developed the architecture as part of a project investigating support for the cooperative work of air traffic controllers. Extensive use of prolonged ethnographic investigation helped to uncover the nature of cooperation in air traffic control. The aim of the architecture is to support an environment in which a multidisciplinary team can experiment with a wide range of alternate user-interface designs for air traffic controllers. Modern distributed programming environments commonly restrict programmers to a single form of inter-component configuration of an application. However, these distributed applications are prone to evolve drastically during their lifetime, to take into account the new users requirements, the technological evolution, or to improve the performance of the application. Evolution involves changes related to the application architecture, the software implementation, or the physical location of software components in a distributed environment during the application execution. In this paper, we describe an original approach for the dynamic application management which fulfills the above requirements with minimal perturbation. The purpose of the EDG Storage Element (SE) is to provide a uniform Grid interface to mass storage systems. We needed an extensible
and flexible architecture, and chose one based on message processing. Not only has this architecture provided a solid framework
for meeting changing requirements, it also provides scope for building an extensible and scalable storage management system.
While distributed SEs in a Grid are managed by higher level replication services, our request processing model opens possibilities
for distributing a single SE across several nodes, allowing further opportunities for optimisation. In this paper, we discuss
applications of distributed, transactional processing in mass storage, and its implications for optimisations based on access
patterns.

Within the European DataGrid project, Work Package 2 has designed and implemented a set of integrated replica management services for use by data intensive scientific applications. These services, based on the web services model, enable movement and replication of data at high speed from one geographical site to another, management of distributed replicated data, optimization of access to data, and the provision of a metadata management tool. Determining service configurations is essential for effective service management. In this paper we describe a model-driven approach for service configuration auto-discovery. We develop metrics for performance and scalability analysis of such auto-discovery mechanisms. Our approach addresses several problems in auto-discovery: specification of what services to discover, how to efficiently distribute service discovery, and how to match instances of services into related groups. We use object-oriented models for discovery specifications, a flexible bus-based architecture for distribution and communication, and a novel multi-phased, instance matching approach. We have applied our approach to typical e-commerce services, Enterprise Resource Planning applications, like SAP, and Microsoft Exchange services running on a mixture of Windows and Unix platforms. The main contribution of this work is the flexibility of our models, architecture and algorithms to address discovery of a multitude of services. 相似文献

We present the architecture of Marvel, adistributed computing environment for building scalablemanagement services using intelligent agents and theworld-wide web. Marvel is based on an information model that generates computed views of managementinformation and a distributed computing model that makesthese views available to a variety of clientapplications. Computed views consist of monitoring,control and event views of information collected fromnetwork elements and subsequently aggregated using aseries of spatial and temporal filters. Marvel does notreplace existing element management agents but rather builds on top of them a hierarchy ofservers that generate computed views and present them toclient applications in a number of formats, includingJava-enriched web pages. It uses a distributed persistent store to reduce the cost associatedwith centralized network management systems and mobileagent technology to: (a) support thin clients byuploading the necessary code to access Marvel services; and (b) extend its functionality dynamically bydownloading code that incorporates new objects andservices. We study a networking architecture model that is built on a distributed processing environment (DPE) for multimedia services suitable for high speed transport networks such as ATM networks. In this architecture, the applications are deployed as units of software building blocks. Each building block provides a layered view for the effective management and control of the multimedia network resources and services according to the concept of telecommunications management network (TMN) and telecommunications information networking architecture (TINA). For the purpose of flexible service provision to users and effective service introduction by service providers, this architecture proposes the adoption of ad hoc service building blocks such as a video on demand building block and a CSCW building block that have interactions with a general purpose building block. This paper also proposes a naming structure for the management of user profiles and session profiles using a directory service system, and an effective control model for multimedia logical device objects using a stream process approach. service, which can enhance media delivery over such multiaccess networks. We describe the proposed information service, which
is built upon the new distributed control and management framework (DCMF) and the mobility management triggering functionality
(TRG). We use a testbed which includes 3G/HSPA, WLAN and WiMAX network accesses to evaluate our proposed architecture and
