Based on the investigation of ablation behavior and thermal stress of the monolayered ZrC-SiC coatings with different SiC amounts, an alternate coating consisting of 4 sublayers with 10 and 70 vol.% SiC was prepared on SiC-coated carbon/carbon (C/C) composites through plasma spraying technique. Ablation tests were carried out under oxyacetylene torch with a heat flux of 2.38 MW/m2. The alternate coating could offer 90 s ablation shield for C/C composites, providing superior ablation properties than all monolayered coatings. The improved ablation resistance is mostly induced by the fact that the outmost scale with abundant ZrO2 particles was able to better endure the mechanical denudation from the torch. Moreover, due to the indirect contact with torch, the innermost sublayers were placed into relatively mild environment, thereby most of Si-based oxides could be retained and further hinder oxygen transport inward during ablation.  相似文献

Ceramic particles were utilized to improve thermal stability and ablation properties of carbon/phenolic (C/Ph) composites. In this study, zirconium carbide (ZrC) modified C/Ph composites were fabricated by vacuum impregnation method, and effects of ZrC content on thermal stability and ablation properties were investigated by thermogravimetry analysis and plasma wind tunnel test. Moreover, morphological characterization was carried out using X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy. Experimental results showed that increasing ZrC content could lead to an evident increase in char yield, but an observable reduction in linear ablation rates and back-face temperatures because of the formation of ZrO2 layer on the ablation surface. The work provided an effective way to improve thermal stability and ablation properties of C/Ph composites.  相似文献

C/C–ZrC–SiC composites reinforced by SiC nanowire (SiCnw)/pyrocarbon (PyC) core-shell networks were prepared by a multistep method of chemical liquid-vapor deposition (CLVD). The microstructure, mechanical property and ablation resistance were researched. The investigations presented that the PyC was deposited on the SiC nanowires, and the micro-scale core-shell structures were produced. Moreover, these micro-scale structures not only connected with the fibers and matrices, but also filled the pores in the composites. In contrast with C/C–ZrC–SiC composites, the flexural modulus and strength of SiCnw/PyC-C/C–ZrC–SiC composites increased by 36.91% and 44.53%, and the fracture mode was changed from the brittle to pseudo-plastic fracture. After the oxyacetylene torch ablation at two temperatures for 90s, the composites strengthened by SiCnw/PyC core-shell possessed a better resistant ablation. At ablation temperature of 2300 °C, the mass loss rate and linear reduction rate of the composites with core-shell networks decreased by 66.18% and 57.55% in contrast with the non-reinforced composites, and declined by 56.46% and 57.48% at ablation temperature of 3000 °C. The obvious decrease of ablation rates was ascribed to the dense microstructure, the small coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE), the good thermal conductivity, and the resistant ablation roles of SiCnw/PyC core-shell systems.  相似文献

This paper presents a comparison between particulate filled (SiC particles) and unfilled glass polyester composites on the basis of their mechanical and thermo-mechanical properties. The results show that particulate filled composites have a decreasing trend in mechanical properties when compared to the unfilled glass polyester composites. In particulate filled composites, the tensile and flexural strength of the composites decrease with the addition of 10 wt.-% SiC particles but increase with 20 wt.-% SiC particles. In the case of the unfilled glass polyester composite, the tensile and flexural strength of the composites increase with an increase in the fiber loading. However, higher values of tensile strength and flexural strength of particulate filled glass polyester were found than that of the unfilled glass polyester composite. In the case of thermo-mechanical and thermal properties, the particulate filled composites show better dynamical and thermal properties when compared to the unfilled glass polyester composites. The mechanical and thermal properties (i.e. thermal conductivity) are also calculated using FE modeling (ANSYS software) and the results from this simulation shows good agreement with the experimental results.  相似文献

Aimed to enhance the high-temperature service performance of C/SiC composites in high-speed aircraft thermal protection system, in this article, pitch-based carbon fibers were used to construct high thermal conductive channels to improve the heat transfer capability of C/SiC composites. The results revealed that the as-prepared composites equipped with 4.7 times higher thermal conductivity than that of conventional C/SiC composites. The oxyacetylene flame ablation test confirmed that the constructed high thermal conductive channels, which quickly conducted the heat flow from the ablation center area to other areas is the main reason of as-prepared composites exhibiting a very impressive ablation resistance property. Briefly, the ablation temperature of the as-prepared composite surfaces considerably dropped by about 300°C compared with conventional C/SiC composites, while the linear ablation rate and mass ablation rate of the composites are 1.27 μm/s and 0.61 mg/s respectively, which is superior to many recent reports, demonstrating that this article provides a simple but highly effective measure to improve the ablation resistance property of C/SiC composites.  相似文献

C/SiC composites prepared by chemical vapor infiltration technique (CVI) have been regarded as thermal structural materials widely. However, these composites still suffer from poor functional properties like low thermal conductivity, especially in thickness direction of the composites, limiting their large-scale applications. Herein, mesophase pitch based carbon fiber (MPCF) and continuous wave laser machining were utilized to construct highly effective heat conductive micro-pipelines within CVI C/SiC composite. The effect of initial density on the final density and thermal conductivity of the as-obtained MPCF-C/SiC composites were investigated. The results revealed that higher initial density would directly enhance the thermal conductivity and reduce the negative impact of the bottle-neck effect. At temperatures between 100°C and 500°C, MPCF-C/SiC composites preserved more than threefold of the thermal conductivity (340%) when compared to reference C/SiC composites. This work provides a highly effective route for enhancing the thermal conductivity of C/SiC, which would broaden their future applications.

The epoxy resin/silicon carbide thermal conductivity composites were prepared via casting method. The content of SiC and coupling reagents effecting on the thermal conductivity, mechanical and thermal properties of composites were investigated. Results revealed that the thermal conductivity properties of the composites were improved with the increasing mass fraction of SiC, and the thermal conductivity coefficient λ was 0.7152 W/mk with 50% mass fraction of SiC, being over 3 times of that of native epoxy resin. The flexural strength and impact strength of the EP/SiC composites increased firstly, but decreased with excessive addition of SiC, and the properties of EP/SiC composites were maximum with 10 wt% SiC. DSC and TGA analysis showed that the glass transition temperature (Tg) of composites decreased, but the heat resistance increased with the addition of SiC. SEM observation of impact fracture revealed that the impact strength had the relationships of large or small fracturing ability and the fracturing extended ability and the resin elasticity deformation.  相似文献

In this article, ammonium polyphosphate (APP) and ammonium pentaborate (APB) were introduced to liquid silicone rubber with an aim of building rich-porous char structure in situ, thereby improving thermal insulation properties. Thermogravimetric analyses indicated that the incorporation of APP greatly increased the char residue of the composites. Oxy-acetylene torch tests showed that the addition of either APP or APB powders effectively enhanced the ablation resistance of the composites, whereas Shore A hardness tests revealed that the APP-containing composites exhibited a higher hardness than APB-filled counterparts. The linear ablation rates of composites with 40 phr APP or APB were reduced by 34.16% and 36.19%, respectively, when compared with the control sample. The maximum back-face temperatures of composites with 40 phr APP or APB was reduced to as low as 73°C. The APP-containing composites exhibited superior ablation resistance, considering both the linear ablation rate and the mechanical properties of char layer. In addition to SiO2, SiC, and C, B2O3 was produced in the APB composites, as characterized by XRD and Raman analysis. Combined with SEM, it was proven that the formation of a firm, continuous, rich-porous and thermal insulation char layer was advantageous to improve the ablation and insulation properties.  相似文献

Heat dissipation remains a critical challenge in optical and electronic devices and diamond/SiC composite is the premiere material solution because of its outstanding thermal and mechanical properties. Si liquid infiltration is one of the most promising techniques to fabricate fully dense diamond/SiC composites with desired phase structures and exceptional properties. In this study, the thermal conductivity from room temperature to 1000 °C was investigated for the diamond/SiC composites fabricated by a liquid Si infiltration method. The experimental thermal measurement shows a good agreement with the computational solution obtained by solving the Boltzmann transport equation. The results suggest a strong correlation between the composite thermal conductivity and diamond volume percentage. A level-off of the thermal conductivity at high diamond content reflects increased thermal resistance. In addition, the annealing effect on the composite thermal conductivity as well as the thermal stability were evaluated.  相似文献

In order to improve the mechanical and ablation properties of 2D-carbon/carbon composites, a SiC filler was added to a 2D-preform before isothermal chemical vapor infiltration densification by using a powder infiltration technique. Backscattered electron images showed that the SiC filler was mainly concentrated between the fiber bundles and between the layers. The tensile and flexural strengths of the composites were improved by the addition of the SiC filler because of the increase of interfacial surface areas between the bundles and between the layers, the less residual open porosity, and also the strong bonding between the SiC particles and the pyrocarbon matrix. The composites with filler experienced a 15.2% lower thickness erosion rate and a 51.7% lower mass erosion rate, compared to those C/C without filler. This was attributed to the low oxygen permeability of the SiO2 shielding the exterior inter-bundle pores as well as to a thermal barrier effect.  相似文献

In this study, SiC nanowires (SiCNWS) were grown in situ on the surface of PyC interface through chemical vapor infiltration (CVI) to improve the mechanical characteristics and thermal conductivity of three-dimensional SiCf/SiC composites fabricated via precursor infiltration pyrolysis (PIP). The effect of SiCNWS on the properties of the obtained composites was investigated by comparing them with conventional SiCf/PyC/SiC composites. After the deposition of SiCNWS, the flexural strength of the SiCf/SiC composites was found to increase by 46 %, and the thermal conductivity showed an obvious increase at 25?1000 °C. The energy release of the composites in the damage evolution process was analysed by acoustic emission. The results indicated that the damage evolution process was delayed owing to the decrease in porosity, the crack deflection and bridging of the SiCNWS. Furthermore, the excellent thermal conductivity was attributed to the thermally conductive pathways formed by the SiCNWS in the dense structure.  相似文献

The effects of heat treatment on the mechanical properties of plain-woven SiC/SiC composites at 927 °C and 1200 °C in argon were evaluated through tensile tests at room temperature and at elevated temperature on the as-received and heat-treated plain-woven SiC/SiC composites, respectively. Heat treatment can improve the mechanical properties of composites at room temperature due to the release of thermal residual stress. Although heat treatment can damage the fiber, the effect of this damage on the mechanical properties of composites is generally less than the effect of thermal residual stress. Heat treatment will graphitize the pyrolytic carbon interface and reduce its shear strength. Testing temperature will affect the expansion or contraction of the components in the composites, thereby changing the stress state of the components. This study can provide guidance for the optimization of processing of ceramic matrix composites and the structural design in high-temperature environments.  相似文献

Continuous SiC fiber reinforced SiC matrix composites (SiC/SiC) have been considered as candidates for heat resistant and nuclear materials. Three-dimensional (3D) SiC/SiC composites were fabricated by the polymer impregnation and pyrolysis (PIP) method with a consolidation process, mechanical properties of the composites were found to be significantly improved by the consolidation process. The SiC/SiC composites were then heat treated at 1400 °C, 1600 °C and 1800 °C in an inert atmosphere for 1 h, respectively. The effect of heat treatment temperature on the mechanical properties of the composites was investigated, the mechanical properties of the SiC/SiC composites were improved after heat treatment at 1400 °C, and conversely decreased with increased heat treatment temperature. Furthermore, the effect of heat treatment duration on the properties of the SiC/SiC composites was studied, the composites exhibited excellent thermal stability after heat treatment at 1400 °C within 3 h.  相似文献

Si3N4 matrix composites reinforced by SiC whiskers, SiC particles, or both were fabricated using the hot-pressing technique. The mechanical properties of the composites containing various amounts of these SiC reinforcing materials and different sizes of SiC particles were investigated. Fracture toughness of the composites was significantly improved by introducing SiC whiskers and particles together, compared with that obtained by adding SiC whiskers or SiC particles alone. On increasing the size of the added SiC particles, the fracture toughness of the composites reinforced by both whiskers and particles was increased. Their fracture toughness also showed a strong dependence on the amount of SiC particles (average size 40 μm) and was a maximum at the particle content of 10 vol%. The maximum fracture toughness of these composites was 10.5 MPa·m1/2 and the flexural strength was 550 MPa after addition of 20 vol% of SiC whiskers and 10 vol% of SiC particles having an average particle size of 40 μm. These mechanical properties were almost constant from room temperature to temperatures around 1000°C. Fracture surface observations revealed that the reinforcing mechanisms acting in these composites were crack deflection and crack branching by SiC particles and pullout of SiC whiskers.  相似文献

Electrospun unidirectional SiC fibers reinforced SiCf/SiC composites (e-SiCf/SiC) were prepared with ∼10% volume fraction by polymer infiltration and pyrolysis (PIP) process. Pyrolysis temperature was varied to investigate the changes in microstructures, mechanical, thermal, and dielectric properties of e-SiCf/SiC composites. The composites prepared at 1100 °C exhibit the highest flexural strength of 286.0 ± 33.9 MPa, then reduced at 1300 °C, mainly due to the degradation of electrospun SiC fibers, increased porosity, and reaction-controlled interfacial bonding. The thermal conductivity of e-SiCf/SiC prepared at 1300 °C reached 2.663 W/(m∙K). The dielectric properties of e-SiCf/SiC composites were also investigated and the complex permittivities increase with raising pyrolysis temperature. The e-SiCf/SiC composites prepared at 1300 °C exhibited EMI shielding effectiveness exceeding 24 dB over the whole X band. The electrospun SiC fibers reinforced SiCf/SiC composites can serve as a potential material for structural components and EMI shielding applications in the future.  相似文献

This study proposes a new dry powder processing method to produce fiber reinforced fumed silica compacts for highly efficient thermal insulation. First, mechanical forces such as shear stress and compression were applied into a fumed silica powder (BET SSA 300 m2/g) and glass fibers (3 mm length, 11 μm diameter) using an attrition type milling apparatus without any media balls. In the resultant powder mixture, fumed silica porously coated glass fiber composites were successfully prepared. SiC particles were also integrated as opacifiers. Then, the fibrous fumed silica porous compact was formed by dry pressing of the powder mixture and exhibited fracture strength of 1.58 MPa at room temperature and thermal conductivity of 0.0282 W/mK at 400°C, when its porosity was 80.1%.  相似文献
