Conversation: J.M.M. Pinkerton

Tape 6 in Christopher Evans's "Pioneers of Computing" series is a 1975 interview with John M. M. Pinkerton, edited excerpts of which are printed here. A focal point of the interview is Pinkerton's role in the design and construction of LEO I at J. Lyons & Co. in Great Britain. LEO (Lyons Electronic Office) was inspired by and based on Maurice V. Wilkes's pioneering EDSAC and was one of the first electronic computers designed specifically for commercial rather than scientific use. LEO heralded today's revolution in office work-a revolution whose ultimate impact is still in our future.     

The ergonomics laboratory, E.M.I. Electronics Ltd

The origins of the Ergonomics Laboratory within EMI Electronics are outlined and milestones in its development discussed. Reference is made to important contributions to the growth of ergonomics in areas including research, consumer goods, equipment design, system design, computers, training and military work. A selected bibliography of the more significant published work is included.

１生物学描述和分类特征比较圆叶鸡桑（Ｍｏｒｕｓｆｒｏｍａｕｓｔｒｑｌｉｓ），桑属乔木 ,高３～４ｍ ,褐色枝条 ,冬芽近豆状 ,褐色。叶近圆形 ,叶长３．２～４．３ｃｍ，叶宽２．３～３．８ｃｍ ,先端圆钝 ,无尾 ,基部截形 ,边缘钝圆锯齿 ,具刺尖 ,叶面暗绿、粗糙 ,有刚毛 ,叶背色淡 ,被疏毛。叶柄较细 ,长１ｃｍ左右 ,被疏毛。雌花穗少 ,长花柱 ,柱头二裂 ,约为花柱的１／３长 ,内侧被短毛。聚花果 ,近球形 ,成熟后紫红色。２聚类分析结果圆叶鸡桑（聚类分析时为峨眉２９号）与原变种主要区别在于冬芽近豆状 ,叶近圆形 ,边缘钝圆锯齿 ,…
