Batch lignocellulose-g-poly(acrylic acid)/montmorillonite (LNC-g-PAA/MMT) hydrogel nanocomposites were applied as adsorbents. The nanocomposites were characterized by FTIR, XRD, SEM, and TEM. The results showed that montmorillonite (MMT) could react with the monomers and change the structure of polymeric network of the traditional superabsorbent materials, an exfoliated structure was formed in the nanocomposites. The effect of process parameters such as MMT content (wt%), contact time (t), initial concentration of dye solution (C 0), adsorption temperature (T), and pH value (pH) of the dye solution for the removal of methylene blue (MB) from aqueous solution were also studied. The results showed that the adsorption capacity for MB increased with increasing contact time, initial dye concentration, and pH value, but decreased with increasing MMT content and temperature. The adsorption kinetics were better described by the pseudo-second-order equation, and their adsorption isotherms were better fitted for the langmuir equation. By introducing 20 wt% MMT into LNC-g-PAA polymeric network, the obtaining hydrogel composite showed the high adsorption capacity 1994.38 mg/g and economic advantage for MB. The desorption studies revealed that the composite provided the potential for regeneration and reuse after MB dye adsorption, which implied that the composite could be regarded as a potential adsorbent for cationic dye MB removal in a wastewater treatment process.  相似文献

The present study explains the preparation and application of sulfuric acid–treated orange peel (STOP) as a new low-cost adsorbent in the removal of methylene blue (MB) dye from its aqueous solution. The effects of temperature on the operating parameters such as solution pH, adsorbent dose, initial MB dye concentration, and contact time were investigated for the removal of MB dye using STOP. The maximum adsorption of MB dye onto STOP took place in the following experimental conditions: pH of 8.0, adsorbent dose of 0.4 g, contact time of 45 min, and temperature of 30°C. The adsorption equilibrium data were tested by applying both the Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm models. It is observed that the Freundlich isotherm model fitted better than the Langmuir isotherm model, indicating multilayer adsorption, at all studied temperatures. The adsorption kinetic results showed that the pseudo-second-order model was more suitable to explain the adsorption of MB dye onto STOP. The adsorption mechanism results showed that the adsorption process was controlled by both the internal and external diffusion of MB dye molecules. The values of free energy change (ΔG o) and enthalpy change (ΔH o) indicated the spontaneous, feasible, and exothermic nature of the adsorption process. The maximum monolayer adsorption capacity of STOP was also compared with other low-cost adsorbents, and it was found that STOP was a better adsorbent for MB dye removal.  相似文献

In this study, removal of methylene blue (MB) from aqueous solution by poly(AMPS-co-IA) hydrogels was examined by batch equilibration technique. The effects of monomer ratio, concentration of initiator and crosslinker, pH, adsorption time, initial dye concentration and adsorption temperature on the removal of MB were studied. The results show that the removal of MB was highly effected by preparation conditions of hydrogel. The maximum removal was observed at 10/90 IA/AMPS monomer ratio, 1.0% KPS, and 10.0% MBAAm concentrations. Removal of MB was strongly affected by pH. Pseudo-first-order, pseudo-second-order and intraparticle diffusion models were applied. It was concluded that adsorption of MB on hydrogel followed pseudo-second-order kinetics. It was found that the adsorption isotherm of the MB fit Langmuir-type isotherms. From the Langmuir equation, the adsorption capacity was found as 1,000 mg/g for MB dye. Thermodynamic parameters suggest that the adsorption is a typical physical process, spontaneous, and exothermic in nature. Ten adsorption—desorption cycles demonstrated that the hydrogels were suitable for repeated use without considerable change in adsorption capacity. The results revealed that this hydrogels have potential to be used as an adsorbent for the removal of MB from aqueous solution.  相似文献

The preparation of poly(methacrylic acid) modified chitosan microspheres (PMAA-GLA-CTS) and its application for the removal of cationic dye, methylene blue (MB), in aqueous solution in a batch system were described. The modified chitosan was characterized using FTIR and XPS analysis. The effects of the pH of the solution, contact time, and initial dye concentration were studied. The adsorption capacity of the microspheres for MB increased significantly after the modification as a large number of carboxyl groups were introduced. The equilibrium process was better described by the Langmuir rather than the Freundlich isotherm. According to the Langmuir equation, the maximum adsorption capacity was 1 g · g?1 for MB. Kinetic studies showed better correlation coefficients for a pseudo-second-order kinetic model, confirming that the sorption rate was controlled by a chemisorption process. Photocatalytic regeneration of spent PMAA-GLA-CTS using UV/TiO2 is effective. Further, the regenerated PMAA-GLA-CTS exhibits 90% efficiency for a subsequent adsorption cycle with MB aqueous solutions.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: The removal of cationic dyes from wastewater is of great importance. Three zeolites synthesized from coal fly ashes (ZFAs) were investigated as adsorbents to remove methylene blue (MB), a cationic dye, from aqueous solutions. Experiments were conducted using the batch adsorption technique under different conditions of initial dye concentration, adsorbent dose, solution pH, and salt concentration. RESULTS: The adsorption isotherm data of MB on ZFAs were fitted well to the Langmuir model. The maximum adsorption capacities of MB by the three ZFAs, calculated using the Langmuir equation, ranged from 23.70 to 50.51 mg g?1. The adsorption of MB by ZFA was essentially due to electrostatic forces. The measurement of zeta potential indicated that ZFA had a lower surface charge at alkaline pH, resulting in enhanced removal of MB with increasing pH. MB was highly competitive compared with Na+, leading to only a < 6% reduction in adsorption in the presence of NaCl up to 1.0 mol L?1. Regeneration of used ZFA was achieved by thermal treatment. In this study, 90–105% adsorption capacity of fresh ZFA was recovered by heating at 450 °C for 2 h. CONCLUSION: The experimental results suggest that ZFA could be employed as an adsorbent in the removal of cationic dyes from wastewater, and the adsorptive ability of used ZFA can be recovered by thermal treatment. In this work, a novel composite adsorbent with three-dimensional cross-linked polymeric networks based on chitosan (CTS) and attapulgite (APT) was prepared via in situ copolymerization in aqueous solution, and its efficacy for removing ammonium nitrogen (NH4+-N) from synthetic wastewater was investigated using batch adsorption experiments. In the adsorption test, the pH effect, adsorption kinetics, isotherms, and desorbability were examined. A comparison between as-prepared adsorbent and clay, powdered activated carbon (PAC), and other reported adsorbents was also carried out. The results indicate that as-prepared composite adsorbent is pH-dependent and has faster adsorption kinetics and higher adsorption capacity. At natural pH, the composite adsorbent with 20 wt.% APT can adsorb 21.0 mg NH4+-N per gram, far higher than the other adsorbents involved. The adsorbed NH4+-N can be completely desorbed by 0.1 mol/L NaOH within 10 min. All information obtained give an indication that the composite can be used as a novel type, fast-responsive and high-capacity sorbent material for NH4+-N removal.  相似文献

Microsilica, one kind of industrial solid waste material, was utilized firstly to prepare a carbon-microsilica composite adsorbent (CMS). The prepared adsorbent was characterized with XPS, SEM and Gas sorption experiments. The results indicated the SO3H groups, which are very effective in capturing cationic organic dye, were introduced onto the surface of CMS; the Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) surface area (S BET ) and total pore volume (V total ) of CMS reach 51m2/g and 0.045 cm3/g, respectively. Meanwhile, the possibility of the utilization of the adsorbent for removal of methylene blue (MB) from aqueous solution was investigated. The effect of pH, contact time and initial MB concentration for MB removal were studied. Equilibrium data were modeled using the Langmuir, Freundlich and Dubinin-Radushkevich equations to describe the equilibrium isotherms. It was found that data fit to the Langmuir equation better than the Freundlich equation. Maximum monolayer adsorption capacity was calculated at different temperatures (298, 308, and 318 K) reach 251.81, 283.76 and 309.70 mg/g, respectively. It was observed that adsorption kinetics obeys the pseudo-first-order equation.  相似文献

This study examines the adsorption behavior of methylene blue (MB) from aqueous solutions onto chemically activated halloysite nanotubes. Adsorption of MB depends greatly on the adsorbent dose, pH, initial concentration, temperature and contact time. The Langmuir and Freundlich models were applied to describe the equilibrium isotherms and the Langmuir model agrees very well with experimental data. The maximum adsorption capacities for MB ranged from 91.32 to 103.63 mg·g−1 between 298 and 318 K. A comparison of kinetic models applied to the adsorption data was evaluated for pseudo-first-order, pseudo-second-order, Elovich and intra-particle diffusion equation. The results showed the adsorption process was well described by the pseudo-second-order and intra-particle diffusion mode. Thermodynamic parameters suggest that the adsorption is spontaneous and endothermic. The obtained results indicated that the product had the potential to be utilized as low-cost and effective alternative for dye removal in wastewater.  相似文献

The efficacy of pistachio hull powder (PHP) prepared from agricultural waste was investigated in this study as a novel adsorbent for the elimination of dye molecules from contaminated streams. Removal of methylene blue (MB) as a cationic model dye by PHP from aqueous solution was studied under different experimental conditions. The selected parameters were solution pH (2–10), PHP dosage (0.5–3 g/L), MB concentrations (100–400 mg/L), contact time (1–70), and solution temperature (20–50 °C). The experimental results indicated that the maximum MB removal could be attained at a solution pH of 8. The dosage of PHP was also found to be an important variable influencing the MB removal percentage. The removal efficiency of MB improved from 94.6 to 99.7% at 70 min contact time when the MB concentration was decreased from 300 to 100 mg/L at a pH and PHP dosage of 8 and 1.5 g/L, respectively. The kinetic analysis showed that the pseudo-second-order model had the best fit to the experimental data. The Langmuir equation provided the best fit for the experimental data of the equilibrium adsorption of MB onto PHP at different temperatures. In addition, the maximum adsorption capacity increased from 389 to 602 mg/g when the temperature was increased from 20 to 50 °C. The thermodynamic evaluation of MB adsorption on PHP revealed that the adsorption phenomenon under the selected conditions was a spontaneous physical process. Accordingly, pistachio hull waste was shown to be a very efficient and low-cost adsorbent, and a promising alternative for eliminating dyes from industrial wastewaters.  相似文献

Application of an agricultural waste material, rice husk, has been investigated for preparation of activated carbon. The rice husk‐activated carbon (RHAC) was successfully utilised for the removal of a cationic dye, methylene blue (MB) from aqueous solutions. The activated carbon was prepared in presence of ZnCl2 as an activating agent under inert nitrogen atmosphere. RHAC was characterised for surface area, pore structural parameters, and point zero charge (pHZPC). The activated carbon was further characterised by Fourier transformation infrared (FT‐IR) spectrometer, X‐ray diffractometer (XRD), and scanning electron microscope (SEM). The effect of different parameters such as contact time and initial concentration, adsorbent dose, and temperature on removal of the dye from aqueous solutions was investigated. The experimental data fitted well in both the Freundlich and Langmuir isotherm models. The maximum adsorption capacity for MB was found to be 9.73 mg g−1 at 303 K. During the study of effect of adsorbent dose, almost a 100% removal was achieved at a higher dose of RHAC. Most of the experiments were carried out at an initial concentration of MB of 60 mg/L and at 303 K. Different thermodynamic parameters, viz., changes in free energy (G°), enthalpy (H°), and entropy (S°) have also been determined to explain feasibility of the process of removal. The sorption of MB on RHAC was found to be feasible, spontaneous, and endothermic in nature.  相似文献

In the current study, sorption of methylene blue dye (MB) from aqueous solutions, using sawdust modified with sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS/SD) has been investigated. Sorption experiments were performed using batch and fixed-bed column systems. The effects of important parameters, such as pH, initial dye concentration, flow rate, and bed depth on the sorption of MB dye have been studied. Thomas and the bed-depth service time model (BDST) were applied for analysis of sorption data and estimating of sorption capacity. In order to drive adsorption isotherms, sorption experiments were conducted in batch mode and the treatment of the obtained data were carried out using the Langmuir and Freundlich equations. Based on the breakthrough analysis obtained from continuous sorption experiments, the highest column capacity of 129.68 mg g?1 was obtained for the SDS/SD adsorbent. The results of this study indicated that surfactant-modified sawdust is much more effective for basic MB dye removal compared to untreated sawdust (SD) and the exhausted SDS/SD column can be easily regenerated using dilute HCl solution with high performance (>95%). The results of this study also indicated the successful applicability of the introduced adsorbent as a very efficient and cost effective adsorbent for the removal of cationic dye molecules from aqueous wastes.  相似文献

The modified expanded graphite (MEG) powder was used as a porous adsorbent for the removal of the cationic dye, methylene blue (MB), from aqueous solutions. The dye adsorption experiments were carried out with the bath procedure. Experimental results showed that the basic pH, increasing initial dye concentration and high temperature favored the adsorption. The dye adsorption equilibrium was attained rapidly after 5 min of contact time. Experimental data related to the adsorption of MB on the MEG under different conditions were applied to the pseudo-first-order equation, the pseudo-second-order equation and the intraparticle diffusion equation, and the rate constants of first-order adsorption (k1), the rate constants of second-order adsorption (k2) and intraparticle diffusion rate constants (kint) were calculated, respectively. The experimental data fitted very well in the pseudo-second-order kinetic model. The thermodynamic parameters of activation such as Gibbs free energy, enthalpy, and entropy were also evaluated. The results indicated that the MEG powder could be employed as an efficient adsorbent for the removal of textile dyes from effluents.  相似文献

Adsorption has been proven to be the most efficient method for quickly lowering the concentration of dissolved dyes in an effluent. In this regard, activated carbon is the most widely used adsorbent for removal of dyes from aqueous solution. However, the high cost of production and regeneration make it uneconomical. Therefore, inorganic adsorbents (e.g. zeolites) with high surface areas have been used as alternatives to carbon adsorbents. Microporous zeolites ZSM‐5, NH4‐Beta, MCM‐22 and mesoporous materials MCM‐41 have been investigated for the removal of dyes from aqueous solutions and they show effective adsorption performance. SBA‐15 possesses a larger pore size and pore wall thickness than MCM‐41. As a result, SBA‐15 has greater potential for the adsorption of methylene blue with larger molecule size and higher hydrothermal stability than the M41S family. SBA‐15 is an excellent adsorbent for methylene blue (MB), exhibiting 280 mg g?1 adsorption capacity and about 100% fading rate for MB. The adsorptive process is so fast that adsorption equilibrium is achieved in 5 min. In addition, SBA‐15 can be effectively recovered by calcination and reused 10 times without significant loss in removal of MB from aqueous solution. The efficient adsorption of MB molecules onto SBA‐15 was ascribed to MB adsorbed into the pore channels of SBA‐15, which was confirmed by nitrogen physisorption analysis of the adsorbent before and after adsorption. The long reuse life of the adsorbent suggests a high potential for application in industry. Copyright © 2010 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

Halloysite nanotubes (HNTs) were used as nano-adsorbents for removal of the cationic dye, Malachite Green (MG), from aqueous solutions. The adsorption of the dye was studied with batch experiments. The natural HNTs used as adsorbent in this work were initially characterized by FT-IR and TEM. The effects of adsorbent dose, initial pH, temperature, initial dye concentration and contact time were investigated. Adsorption increased with increasing adsorbent dose, initial pH, and temperature. Equilibrium was rapidly attained after 30 min of contact time. Pseudofirst-order, pseudo-second-order and intraparticle diffusion models were considered to evaluate the rate parameters. The adsorption followed pseudo-second-order kinetic model with correlation coefficients greater than 0.999. The factors controlling adsorption process were also calculated and discussed. The maximum adsorption capacity of 99.6 mg g−1 of MG was achieved in pH = 9.5. Thermodynamic parameters of Δ, Δ and ΔS° indicated the adsorption process was spontaneous and endothermic.  相似文献

We evaluated the adsorption performance of attapulgite/carbon (APT/C) composite as reusable adsorbents for antibiotics. APT/C composite was first synthesized by one-step calcination based on the spent bleaching earth after bleaching of vegetable oil, and followed by a thermal regeneration after adsorption of antibiotic at different temperatures. Antibiotics adsorption results revealed that APT/C composites prepared at 300 °C exhibited high adsorption capacity and fast equilibrium. Thermal regeneration proved to be an efficient methodology for recycling the spent antibiotic-loaded APT/C composites. After the ten-time continuous adsorption-calcination process, the removal ratios of the recycled adsorbents still retained around 67.3% and 62.9% for chlortetracycline and tetracycline, respectively. The conjugation of the adsorption and regeneration results suggested that combining the advantages of APT and carbon species provided a feasible strategy to fabricate a promising adsorbent with the desirable adsorption and regeneration properties for removal of antibiotics in the future.  相似文献

The adsorption of methylene blue (MB) on graphene-based adsorbents was tested through the batch experimental method. Two types of graphene-based adsorbents as graphene oxide (GO) and reduced graphene oxide (RGO) were compared to investigate the best adsorbent for MB removal. So that optimizing the MB removal for the selected type of graphene-based adsorbent, the diverse experimental factors, as pH (2–10), contact time (0–1440 min), adsorbent dosage (0.5–2 g/L), and initial MB concentration (25–400 mg/L) were analyzed. The conclusions indicated that the MB removal rised with an increase in the initial concentration of the MB and so rises in the amount of adsorbent used and initial pH. Maximum dye removal was calculated as 99.11% at optimal conditions after 240 min. Adsorption data were compiled by the Langmuir isotherm (R2: 0.999) and pseudo-second-order kinetic models (R2: 0.999). The Langmuir isotherm model accepted that the homogeneous surface of the GO adsorbent covering with a single layer. And the adsorption energy was calculated as 9.38 kJ mol−1 according to the D-R model indicating the chemical adsorption occurred. The results show that GO could be utilized for the treatment of dye-contaminated aqueous solutions effectively.  相似文献

An adsorbent was prepared from acetic acid lignin (AAL) to investigate the adsorption mechanism of methylene blue (MB) from water. AAL was first deacetylated in NaOH aqueous solution and then fractionated by methanol to prepare adsorbents with various acidic hydroxy groups. The adsorption capacities of MB increased with the increase in initial pH and with the decrease in adsorbent dosage. The results of adsorption kinetics indicated the dye uptake process is a chemisorption. The adsorption capacity of lignin for MB adsorption increased from 18.2 to 63.3 mg g?1 as AAL was deacetylated and fractionated.  相似文献

Nanostructured chitosan/polyaniline (CH/PANI) hybrid was synthesized via in situ polymerization of aniline in the presence of chitosan. The CH/PANI hybrid was characterized by FTIR spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, thermogravimetric analysis, and scanning electron microscopy. The CH/PANI hybrid had a nanofibrous structure with an average diameter of 70 nm. This hybrid was employed as an ecofriendly and efficient adsorbent with high adsorption capacity for the removal of Acid Green 25 (AG) and methylene blue (MB) from aqueous solutions. AG and MB were used as anionic and cationic model dyes, respectively. The CH/PANI adsorbent showed high dependence on the pH of the medium with an excellent adsorption performance and regeneration manner. The kinetics and adsorption isotherms were studied. The CH/PANI hybrid follows the pseudo second-order adsorption kinetics and Temkin isotherm model for the adsorption of both AG and MB dyes. This assumes that the enthalpy of dyes molecules decreases with the adsorption on heterogeneous surface with various kinds of adsorption sites and as well as the ability to form multilayers of the dye. Also, intraparticle diffusion was found to play an important role in the adsorption mechanism. The maximum adsorption capacity was found to be 240.4 mg g−1 of AG at pH 4 and 81.3 mg g−1 of MB at pH 11. © 2018 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. Polym. Sci. 2019 , 136, 47056.  相似文献

The adsorption of methylene blue dye (MBD) from aqueous solutions was investigated using a new composite made up of shrimp waste chitosan and zeolite as adsorbent. Response surface methodology (RSM) was used to optimize the effects of process variables, such as contact time, pH, adsorbent dose and initial MBD concentration on dye removal. The results showed that optimum conditions for removal of MBD were adsorbent dose of 2.5 g/L and pH of 9.0, and initial MBD concentration of 43.75 mg/L and contact time of 138.65 min. The initial concentration of dye had the greatest influence on MBD adsorption among other variables. The experimental data were well fitted by the pseudo-second order kinetic model, while the Freundlich isotherm model indicated a good ability for describing equilibrium data. According to this isotherm model, maximum adsorption capacity of the composite was 24.5 mg/g. Desorption studies showed that the desorption process is favored at low pH under acidic conditions.  相似文献
