This paper explores the extent to which an enlarged, generic version of a "composite" model of concurrent product development previously tested for goods industries also applies to services. The model is comprised of four types of building blocks commonly used in theories of organization design. The operating core of the model includes a troika of practice sets dealing with the organization of cross-functional teams, discipline by structured development processes, and the use of enabling tools/technologies. Concurrent strategy focuses core operations on fast, reiterative cycles of product development. The model postulates that synergy among its constructs have an impact on product development effectiveness. This postulate is tested by multiple regression analysis of 62 large service enterprises in the New York area. All four components of the model had main effects on performance measured as time compression and cost reduction in product development, signature indicators of the effectiveness of concurrent methods of product development. Interaction effects were observed among the constructs of strategy, organization, and process, which suggest synergies. However, tools/technologies lacked significant interactions. With this exception, the results for services parallel those of other studies of goods industries. These findings suggest that concurrent methods of product development are robust, as well as reliable. A generic model of product development is important for managing innovation because goods and services are increasingly commingled in many enterprises and sold as a bundle. Thus, the four building blocks of the model are important for managers to consider deploying in synergistic ways to speed time to market and achieve cost efficiencies.  相似文献

An increasing number of manufacturing organizations are using concurrent engineering product development processes, which rely on parallel scheduling of activities throughout the product development cycle. This study examines the impact of such practices on product development time, product quality, and delivery leadtime. Using data obtained from structured interviews with product managers and engineers, six hypotheses are tested using a sample of 31 make-to-order (MTO) products from several industries. The results suggest that concurrent engineering may he appropriate for incremental innovation, but may have some “hidden costs” in the form of increased defects when applied to new “breakthrough” innovations. However, this strategy may be entirely suited to a specific customer segment that is willing to work with the manufacturer on debugging the product in the field. The study points out the importance of considering the hidden costs of concurrent engineering, and discusses the strategic implications of such decisions for technology managers  相似文献

模糊度固定是影响精密单点定位精度和快速收敛的主要问题之一,而相位偏差的有效分离是模糊度固定的关键因素,采用包含相位偏差的钟差和与之耦合的轨道来完成模糊度的固定,基于全球分布的5个IGS连续跟踪站5 d的观测数据,采用采样间隔为30 s的高精度精密钟差产品,研究精密单点定位(PPP)的整周模糊度在固定解模式和浮点解模式下的定位精度,并对这2种模式的定位结果进行比较试验。验证结果表明,模糊度固定模式下,定位精度在X,Y两个方向的RMS平均提高59%,38%,Z方向的提升幅度相比X,Y两个方向较小,为13%,且固定模式下模糊度的固定率都在95%以上。  相似文献

In this paper, we explore the inherent geometry of video tensors by modeling them as points in product of Riemannian matrix manifolds. A video tensor is decomposed into three modes (factors) using matrix unfolding operation and each mode is represented as a point in a product space of Grassmannian and symmetric positive definite (SPD) matrix manifold. Hence a video is represented as a point in the Cartesian product of three such product spaces. Being a manifold valued (non-Euclidean) representation, application of several state-of-the-art Euclidean machine learning algorithms lead to inferior results. To overcome this, we propose positive definite kernels which map the points from product manifold space to Hilbert space. The proposed kernel functions implicitly make use of geodesic distance on product manifold to obtain a similarity measure and generate a kernel-gram matrix. In addition, we generate a discriminative feature representation for each manifold valued point using kernel-gram matrix diagonalization. Classification is performed in a sparse framework. The proposed methodology is tested over three publicly available datasets for hand gesture, traffic signal and sign language recognition. Experimentation performed over these datasets show that the proposed methodology is powerful in terms of classification accuracy in comparison with the state-of-the-art methods.  相似文献

The Software Product Line (SPL) approach is associated with many benefits, and with some challenges too. In the SPL testing, a great challenge is the integration of test methods and techniques with the SPL engineering. To do this, some strategies have been proposed, however, they have not been properly evaluated and compared. In this paper a case study is described comparing three different test strategies: the product by product strategy that tests each product individually; an incremental strategy that tests the products reusing test cases from products previously tested; and a strategy that instantiates test data derived in the domain engineering, considering SPL commonalities and variabilities. In the study an SPL from the games domain was used, and the test data were generated from use cases. The results show that SPL oriented strategies are associated to greater percentages of reuse, and consequently, with lower effort to write test cases.  相似文献

Interposer-based 2.5-dimensional integrated circuit (2.5D IC) is considered as a promising solution to problems like wire delay and power consumption faced by the semiconductor industry today. Since the interconnect wires in the silicon interposer may be defective during fabrication and assembly, they must be adequately tested to ensure product qualification. This paper presents an efficient interconnect test architecture to detect open, short and delay faults, which is compatible with the IEEE 1149.1 standard. It provides a new boundary scan structure with low test power consumption. To reduce the overall test cost, a data-package based test structure is proposed to match the test data transfer volume between TSVs and scan chains. Interconnects of multiple dies can be tested simultaneously under constrains of test power with minimum external test pins. The simulation results validate the effectiveness of the proposed test method. We also present synthesis results to evaluate the area overhead.  相似文献

This paper proposes a “composite” form of organization as best for reducing product development time and costs. This composite is a meld of three sets of concurrent engineering (CE) practices: early simultaneous influence (ESI) in product design decisions by multiple functions, in-process design controls (IDC), and computer and information technology (CIT). The importance of these practices was suggested by case studies of CE practices in 12 major US companies. The separate and interaction effects of each of these three practices is tested statistically using data from a survey sample of 74 companies. The results show statistically significant interaction effects among the three core CE practice sets. This suggests synergistic benefits from simultaneously achieving high levels of these three practices  相似文献
