On convexity properties of ψ-direct sums of Banach spaces

The ψ-direct sum of Banach spaces is strictly convex (respectively, uniformly convex, locally uniformly convex, uniformly convex in every direction) if each of the Banach spaces are strictly convex (respectively, uniformly convex, locally uniformly convex, uniformly convex in every direction) and the corresponding ψ-norm is strictly convex.

Monotonicity and complex convexity in Banach lattices

The goal of this article is to study the relations among monotonicity properties of real Banach lattices and the corresponding convexity properties in the complex Banach lattices. We introduce the moduli of monotonicity of Banach lattices. We show that a Banach lattice E is uniformly monotone if and only if its complexification EC is uniformly complex convex. We also prove that a uniformly monotone Banach lattice has finite cotype. In particular, we show that a Banach lattice is of cotype q for some 2?q<∞ if and only if there is an equivalent lattice norm under which it is uniformly monotone and its complexification is q-uniformly PL-convex. We also show that a real Köthe function space E is strictly (respectively uniformly) monotone and a complex Banach space X is strictly (respectively uniformly) complex convex if and only if Köthe-Bochner function space E(X) is strictly (respectively uniformly) complex convex.     

On Hereditarily Indecomposable Banach Spaces

This paper shows that every non-separable hereditarily indecomposable Banach space admits an equivalent strictly convex norm, but its bi-dual can never have such a one; consequently, every non-separable hereditarily indecomposable Banach space has no equivalent locally uniformly convex norm.

Characterization of inner product spaces in V- and L-spaces

In [4], Freese and Murphy introduce a new class of spaces, the V-spaces, which include Banach spaces, hyperbolic spaces, and other metric spaces. In this class of spaces they investigate conditions which are equivalent to strict convexity in Banach spaces, and extend some of the Banach space results to this new class of spaces. It is natural to ask if known characterizations of real inner product spaces among Banach spaces can also be extended to this larger class of spaces. In the present paper it will be shown that a metrization of an angle bisector property used in [3] to characterize real inner product spaces among Banach spaces also characterizes real inner product spaces among V-spaces, and among another class of spaces, the L-spaces, which include hyperbolic spaces and strictly convex Banach spaces. In the process it is shown that in a complete, convex, externally convex metric space M, if the foot of a point on a metric line is unique, then M satisfies the monotone property, thus answering a question raised in [4].     

Fibred cofinitely-coarse embeddability of box families and proper isometric affine actions on uniformly convex Banach spaces

In this paper we show that a countable, residually amenable group admits a proper isometric affine action on some uniformly convex Banach space if and only if one (or equivalently, all) of its box families admits a fibred cofinitely-coarse embedding into some uniformly convex Banach space.     

Locally uniformly rotund points in convex-transitive Banach spaces

Almost transitive superreflexive Banach spaces have been considered in [C. Finet, Uniform convexity properties of norms on superreflexive Banach spaces, Israel J. Math. 53 (1986) 81–92], where it is shown that they are uniformly convex and uniformly smooth. We characterize such spaces as those convex transitive Banach spaces satisfying conditions much weaker than that of uniform convexity (for example, that of having a weakly locally uniformly rotund point). We note that, in general, the property of convex transitivity for a Banach space is weaker than that of almost transitivity.     

Locally uniformly convex norms in Banach spaces and their duals

It is shown that a Banach space with locally uniformly convex dual admits an equivalent norm that is itself locally uniformly convex.     

APPROXIMATION OF COMMON FIXED POINT OF FAMILIES OF NONLINEAR MAPPINGS WITH APPLICATIONS

It is our purpose in this paper to show that some results obtained in uniformly convex real Banach space with uniformly G?ateaux differentiable norm are extendable to more general reflexive and strictly convex real Banach space with uniformly G?ateaux differentiable norm. Demicompactness condition imposed in such results is dispensed with. Furthermore,Applications of our theorems to approximation of common fixed point of countable infinite family of continuous pseudocontractive mappings and approximation of common solution of countable infinite family of generalized mixed equilibrium problems are also discussed. Our theorems improve, generalize, unify and extend several recently announced results.

Banach空间的p— Asplund 伴随空间

我们称一个定义在Banach空间E上的连续凸函数f具有Frechet可微性质（FDP）,如果E上的每个实值凸函数g≤f均在E一个稠密的Gδ－子集上Frechet可微。本文主要证明了：对任何Banach空间E,均存在一个局部凸相容拓扑p使得1）（E,p)是Hausdorff局部凸空间;2） E上的每个范数连续具有FDP的凸函数均是p－连续的;3）每个p-连续的凸函数均具有FDP ;4）p等价某个范数拓扑当且仅不E是Asplund空间。     

Chebyshev Centers that are Not Farthest Points

In this paper, we address the question whether in a given Banach space, a Chebyshev center of a nonempty bounded subset can be a farthest point of the set. We obtain a characterization of two-dimensional real strictly convex spaces as those ones where a Chebyshev center cannot contribute to the set of farthest points of a subset. In dimension greater than two, every non-Hilbert smooth space contains a subset whose Chebyshev center is a farthest point. We explore the scenario in uniformly convex Banach spaces and further study the roles played by centerability and Mcompactness in the scheme of things to obtain a step by step characterization of strictly convex Banach spaces.     

非扩张映象有限族的公共不动点的隐式迭代方法

本文在实一致凸和q一致光滑Banach空间中研究了一类新的有限族非扩张映象的公共不动点的具误差和具扰动映射的隐式迭代程序并且得到了一些收敛性定理.特别地,获得了该隐式迭代程序强收敛性的充要条件.本文所得结论推广了文[1,2]中的相应结果.     

Locally Asplund Preduals of Spaces of Holomorphic Functions

Defant [5] introduced the local Radon–Nikodym property for duals of locally convex spaces. This is a generalization of Asplund spaces as defined in Banach space theory. In this paper we generalise Dunford"s Theorem [7] to Banach spaces with Schauder decompositions and apply this result to spaces of holomorphic functions on balanced domains in a Banach space. This revised version was published online in June 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.

本文对赋序列范数的矢值Banach序列空间ss(E)的一些凸性进行了讨论,得到的主要结果如下: 1.ss(E)是局部一致凸的当且仅当ss和E是局部一致凸的; 2.ss(E)是强凸的当且仅当ss和E是强凸的; 3.设ss和ss*具有AK性质,则ss(E)是非常凸的当且仅当ss和E是非常凸的.
