Fatigue damage prediction under a general multiaxial service loading consists of three main steps: multiaxial cycle counting, damage evaluation for an identified cycle (or reversal), and damage accumulations. The accuracy of fatigue life predictions depends on all the above steps. This paper reviews the evolutions of various multiaxial fatigue damage models, a comparative study is conducted about the physical basis, the computational efficiency, and the application range of the approaches. Based on the comparative studies, a new procedure is proposed to evaluate fatigue damage under general multiaxial random loading, which uses the Wang and Brown´s multiaxial cycle counting method for identifying cycles (or reversals), the modified procedure of the minimum circumscribed ellipse (MCE) approach for fatigue damage evaluation for an identified cycle (or reversal), and the Miner´s linear damage law for fatigue damage accumulations. By comparisons of the predicted life results with experimental results and with other approaches, it is shown that the proposed procedure is very efficient and suitable for computer aided structural optimization against fatigue.  相似文献

Based on Wang and Brown's reversal counting method, a new approach to the determination of the critical plane is proposed by the defined plane with a weight‐averaged maximum shear strain range under multiaxial variable amplitude loading. According to the determined critical plane, a detailed procedure of multiaxial fatigue life prediction is introduced to predict lives in the low‐cycle multiaxial fatigue regime. The proposed approach is verified by two multiaxial fatigue damage models and Miner's linear cumulative damage law. The results showed that the proposed approach can effectively predict the orientation of the failure plane under multiaxial variable amplitude loading and give a satisfactory life prediction.  相似文献

To realize online multiaxial fatigue damage assessment for the mechanical components in service, an online multiaxial cycle counting method is proposed coupled with the segment processing technique and Wang‐Brow's relative equivalent strain concept. Meanwhile, considering all the stress and strain components, which contribute to the fatigue damage on the critical plane, a multiaxial fatigue damage model without any weight coefficients is also proposed in an equivalent form of shear strain energy. Then, an online fatigue damage evaluation method for multiaxial random loading is developed by combining with the proposed damage model and online cycle counting method. The experimental results showed that the proposed online cycle counting method can be successfully applied to the calculation of multiaxial fatigue damage under random loading. Moreover, the proposed online multiaxial fatigue damage evaluation method can provide satisfactory predictions.  相似文献

A new creep–fatigue damage cumulative model is proposed under multiaxial thermomechanical random loading, in which the damage at high temperature can be divided into the pure fatigue damage and the equivalent fatigue damage from creep. During the damage accumulation process, the elementary percentage of the equivalent fatigue damage increment is proportional to that of the creep damage increment, and the creep damage is converted to the equivalent fatigue damage. Moreover, combined with a multiaxial cyclic counting method, a life prediction method is developed based on the proposed creep–fatigue damage cumulative model. In the developed life prediction method, the effects of nonproportional hardening on the fatigue and creep damages are considered, and the influence of mean stress on damage is also taken into account. The thermomechanical fatigue experimental data for thin‐walled tubular specimen of superalloy GH4169 under multiaxial constant amplitude and variable amplitude loadings were used to verify the proposed model. The results showed that the proposed method can obtain satisfactory life prediction results.  相似文献

In order to study the use of a local approach to predict crack‐initiation life on notches in mechanical components under multiaxial fatigue conditions, the study of the local cyclic elasto‐plastic behaviour and the selection of an appropriate multiaxial fatigue model are essential steps in fatigue‐life prediction. The evolution of stress–strain fields from the initial state to the stabilized state depends on the material type, loading amplitude and loading paths. A series of biaxial tension–compression tests with static or cyclic torsion were carried out on a biaxial servo‐hydraulic testing machine. Specimens were made of an alloy steel 42CrMo4 quenched and tempered. The shear stress relaxations of the cyclic tension–compression with a steady torsion angle were observed for various loading levels. Finite element analyses were used to simulate the cyclic behaviour and good agreement was found. Based on the local stabilized cyclic elastic–plastic stress–strain responses, the strain‐based multiaxial fatigue damage parameters were applied and correlated with the experimentally obtained lives. As a comparison, a stress‐invariant‐based approach with the minimum circumscribed ellipse (MCE) approach for evaluating the effective shear stress amplitude was also applied for fatigue life prediction. The comparison showed that both the equivalent strain range and the stress‐invariant parameter with non‐proportional factors correlated well with the experimental results obtained in this study.  相似文献

A new fatigue life prediction method using the energy-based approach under uniaxial and multiaxial random loadings is proposed. The uniqueness of the proposed model is based on a time-derivative damage accumulation unlike classical cycle-based damage accumulation models. Thus, damage under arbitrary random loading can be directly obtained using time-domain integration without cycle counting. First, a brief review of existing models is given focusing on their applicability to uniaxial/multiaxial, constant/random, and high cycle fatigue/low cycle fatigue loading regimes. Next, formulation of time-derivative damage model is discussed in detail under uniaxial random loadings. Then, an equivalent energy concept for general multiaxial loading conditions is used to convert the random multiaxial loading to an equivalent random uniaxial loading, where the time-derivative damage model can be used. Finally, the proposed model is validated with extensive experimental data from open literature and in-house testing under various constant and random spectrum loadings.  相似文献

This contribution presents a continuum damage mechanics model for the high-cycle fatigue life prediction of rubber-like materials. The proposed model is an extension of that proposed by Wang et al. (2002) for multiaxial loadings. The damage strain energy release rate is first derived from a generalized Ogden strain energy density and then from the cracking energy density. A new multiaxial fatigue predictor is proposed and presented in its most general form with the aim of being applicable to all hyperelastic materials. The effects of variable amplitude and mean stretch are explicitly accounted for in the damage evolution law. The fatigue damage behavior of a carbon-filled styrene–butadiene rubber is experimentally investigated under tension, torsion and combined tension–torsion loadings both in constant and variable amplitudes, including the effects of different R ratios (i.e. different minimum and maximum stretches). The proposed model, which requires few damage parameters to be identified, is used to predict the number of cycles to failure and, a satisfactory agreement between predicted values and experimental data is clearly highlighted for the different loading paths.  相似文献

Elastomeric components have wide usage in many industries. The typical service loading for most of these components is variable amplitude and multiaxial. In this study a general methodology for life prediction of elastomeric components under these typical loading conditions was developed and illustrated for a passenger vehicle cradle mount. Crack initiation life prediction was performed using different damage criteria. The methodology was validated with component testing under different loading conditions including constant and variable amplitude in-phase and out-of-phase axial–torsion experiments. The optimum method for crack initiation life prediction for complex multiaxial variable amplitude loading was found to be a critical plane approach based on maximum normal strain plane and damage quantification by cracking energy density on that plane. Rainflow cycle counting method and Miner’s linear damage rule were used for predicting fatigue life under variable amplitude loadings. The fracture mechanics approach was used for total fatigue life prediction of the component based on specimen crack growth data and FE simulation results. Total fatigue life prediction results showed good agreement with experiments for all of the loading conditions considered.  相似文献

A new computational methodology is proposed for fatigue life prediction of notched components subjected to variable amplitude multiaxial loading. In the proposed methodology, an estimation method of non‐proportionality factor (F) proposed by authors in the case of constant amplitude multiaxial loading is extended and applied to variable amplitude multiaxial loading by using Wang‐Brown's reversal counting approach. The pseudo stress correction method integrated with linear elastic finite element analysis is utilized to calculate the local elastic‐plastic stress and strain responses at the notch root. For whole local strain history, the plane with weight‐averaged maximum shear strain range is defined as the critical plane in this study. Based on the defined critical plane, a multiaxial fatigue damage model combined with Miner's linear cumulative damage law is used to predict fatigue life. The experimentally obtained fatigue data for 7050‐T7451 aluminium alloy notched shaft specimens under constant and variable amplitude multiaxial loadings are used to verify the proposed methodology and equivalent strain‐based methodology. The results show that the proposed methodology is superior to equivalent strain‐based methodology.  相似文献

A new calculation approach is suggested to the fatigue life evaluation of notched specimens under multiaxial variable amplitude loading. Within this suggested approach, if the computed uniaxial fatigue damage by the pure torsional loading path is larger than that by the axial tension–compression loading path, a shear strain‐based multiaxial fatigue damage parameter is assigned to calculate multiaxial fatigue damage; otherwise, an axial strain‐based multiaxial fatigue damage parameter is assigned to calculate multiaxial fatigue damage. Furthermore, the presented method employs shear strain‐based and axial strain‐based multiaxial fatigue damage parameters in substitution of equivalent strain amplitude to consider the influence of nonproportional additional hardening. The experimental data of GH4169 superalloy and 7050‐T7451 aluminium alloy notched components are used to illustrate the presented multiaxial fatigue lifetime estimation approach for notched components, and the results reveal that estimations are accurate.  相似文献

Fatigue experiments were conducted with an axial‐torsion specimen covering a wide range of stretch biaxiality and a range of fatigue lives between 103 and 2 × 106 cycles. These experiments include combined torsion–compression, pure torsion, combined torsion–tension and pure axial tension. Both in‐phase and out‐of‐phase combinations of axial and torsion loading were considered. The multiaxial fatigue experiments described provide empirical evidence from which an understanding of the mechanics of the fatigue process in rubber can be developed. Each of the four equivalence parameters described in Part I has been applied to the axial‐torsion fatigue experiments described in this paper (Part II). These results provide the basis for an analysis of the effects of multiaxial loading on fatigue life, and an assessment of the degree to which the various equivalence parameters are able to rationalize the results in a unified way. For the combined axial and shear strain histories in this study, the maximum principal strain criterion gave the best correlation to fatigue life. Strain energy density gave the worst correlation. The cracking energy density criterion was generally found to give good correlation of fatigue crack nucleation lives from combined axial‐torsion tests. Because it provides a plane‐specific analysis, this criterion appears to be particularly well suited for use in crack nucleation analyses of multiaxial strain histories.  相似文献

Fatigue tests under variable amplitude multiaxial loading were conducted on titanium alloy TC4 tubular specimens. A method to estimate the fatigue life under variable amplitude multiaxial loading has been proposed. Multiaxial fatigue parameter based on Wu–Hu–Song approach and rainflow cycle counting and Miner–Palmgren rule were applied in this method. The capability of fatigue life prediction for the proposed method was checked against the test data of TC4 alloy under variable amplitude multiaxial loading. The prediction results are all within a factor of two scatter band of the test results.  相似文献

The paper contains a new algorithm for estimation of fatigue life in HCF regime under multiaxial random loading using spectral methods. Loading of Gaussian distribution and narrow‐ and broad‐band frequency spectra were assumed. Various characteristic states of multiaxial loading were considered. The equivalent stress history was determined with use of the failure criteria of multiaxial fatigue based on the critical plane. For determination of the critical plane position, the method of variance was applied. During simulation, the authors compared the results obtained by a spectral method in the frequency domain with those from the rain‐flow algorithm in the time domain. The paper also contains the results of fatigue tests for 18G2A structural steel subjected to bending and combined bending with torsion. The tests were performed in order to verify the proposed algorithms for determination of fatigue life. It has been shown that under multiaxial random loading results of fatigue life calculated according to the considered algorithms in frequency and time domains are well correlated with the results of experiments.  相似文献

This paper proposed a simple life prediction model for assessing fatigue lives of metallic materials subjected to multiaxial low‐cycle fatigue (LCF) loading. This proposed model consists of the maximum shear strain range, the normal strain range and the maximum normal stress on the maximum shear strain range plane. Additional cyclic hardening developed during non‐proportional loading is included in the normal stress and strain terms. A computer‐based procedure for multiaxial fatigue life prediction incorporating critical plane damage parameters is presented as well. The accuracy and reliability of the proposed model are systematically checked by using about 300 test data through testing nine kinds of material under both zero and non‐zero mean stress multiaxial loading paths.  相似文献

A hybrid frequency–time domain method for predicting multiaxial fatigue life under random loading is developed on the basis of combination of the frequency domain and time domain analysis. The critical damage point of the structure is determined by the frequency domain equivalent stress method. Then, the fatigue life prediction is made in time domain by generating random load‐time histories from the power spectral density of the critical point. The method is validated with the random vibration fatigue test of 7075‐T6 aluminium alloy. It has been shown that the results of fatigue life calculated by hybrid method are well correlated with the experiment.  相似文献

The tension–torsion fatigue characteristics were investigated under proportional and non-proportional loading in this paper. The fatigue cracks on the surface of multiaxial fatigue specimens were observed and analyzed by a scan electron microscope. On the basis of the investigation on the Kindil–Brown–Miller and Fatemi–Socie’s critical plane approaches, a shear strain based multiaxial fatigue damage parameter was proposed by von Mises criterion based on combining the maximum shear strain and the normal strain excursion between adjacent turning points of the maximum shear strain on the critical plane. The proposed multiaxial fatigue damage parameter does not include the weight constants. According to the proposed multiaxial fatigue damage parameter, the multiaxial fatigue life prediction model was established with the Coffin–Manson equation, which is used to predict the multiaxial fatigue life of medium-carbon steel. The results showed that the proposed multiaxial fatigue damage parameter could be used under either multiaxial proportional or non-proportional loading.  相似文献

This paper presents analytical and experimental investigations for fatigue lives of structures under uniaxial, torsional, multiaxial proportional, and non‐proportional loading conditions. It is known that the rotation of principal stress/strain axes and material additional hardening due to non‐proportionality of cycle loading are the 2 main causes resulting in shorter fatigue lives compared with those under proportional loading. This paper treats these 2 causes as independent factors influencing multiaxial fatigue damage and proposes a new non‐proportional influencing parameter to consider their combined effects on the fatigue lives of structures. A critical plane model for multiaxial fatigue lives prediction is also proposed by using the proposed non‐proportional influencing factor to modify the Fatemi‐Socie model. The comparison between experiment results and theoretical evaluation shows that the proposed model can effectively predict the fatigue life due to multiaxial non‐proportional loading.  相似文献

From the literature concerning the traditional nonproportional (NP) multiaxial cyclic fatigue prediction, special attentions are usually paid to multiaxial constitutive relations to quantify fatigue damage accumulation. As a result, estimation of NP hardening effect decided by the entire history path is always proposed, which is a challenging and complex task. To simplify the procedure of multiaxial fatigue life prediction of engineering components, in this paper, a novel effective energy parameter based on simple material properties is proposed. The parameter combines uniaxial cyclic plastic work and NP hardening effects. The fatigue life has been assessed based on traditional multiaxial fatigue criterion and the proposed parameter, which has been validated by experimental results of 316 L stainless steel under different low‐cycle loading paths.  相似文献

High‐cycle fatigue life prediction methods based on different critical planes, including the maximum shear stress (MSS) plane, the weighted average shear stress plane and the Maximum Variance shear stress plane, are compared by two multiaxial cycle counting methods, i.e. the main and auxiliary channels (MAC) counting and the relative equivalent stress counting. A modified damage model is used to calculate the multiaxial fatigue damage. Compared with the experimental lives for 7075‐T651 aluminium alloy, the predicted results show that the MSS method together with MAC counting is suitable for the multiaxial fatigue life prediction.  相似文献
