Scallop shell was used as a low-cost adsorbent for removal of two anionic textile dyes, Reactive Blue 19 (RB19) and Acid Cyanine 5 R (AC5R), from aqueous solutions. The adsorbent was characterized using inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry (ICP-OES), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The dye removal efficiency of scallop shell was determined as function of contact time, solution pH, initial dye concentration and adsorbent dosage. With increasing dye concentration, the adsorption of both dyes decreased, while it increased with increasing adsorbent dosage. Optimum removal of RB19 and AC5R was achieved at pH=6. Adsorption equilibrium data were well described by the Freundlich model. The maximum dye adsorption capacity of scallop shell as estimated from the Langmuir isotherm was 12.36 and 12.47 mg/g for RB19 and AC5R, respectively. The adsorption kinetic data showed excellent correlation with the pseudosecond-order model. It was concluded that scallop shell has a remarkable potential for the sorption of RB19 and AC5R and can be used for treatment of the dye contaminated wastewater.  相似文献

In the present study, the application for the removal of Ni(II), Cd(II) and Pb(II) ions from aqueous solution by using mesoporous silica materials, namely, MCM-41, nanoparticle of MCM-41, NH2-MCM-41 (amino functionalized MCM-41) and nano NH2-MCM-41 was investigated. Suitable adsorbents preparation techniques were developed in the laboratory. The effects of the solution pH, metal ion concentrations, adsorbent dosages, and contact time were studied. It was found that NH2-MCM-41 showed the highest uptake for metal ions in aqueous solution. The results indicated that the adsorption of Ni(II), Cd(II) and Pb(II) ions on the surface of the adsorbent was increased with increasing solution pH. The experimental data were analyzed using the Langmuir and Freundlich equations. Correlation coefficients were determined by analyzing each isotherm. It was found that the Langmuir equation showed better correlation with the experimental data than the Freundlich. According to the parameters of the Langmuir isotherm, the maximum adsorption capacity of NH2-MCM-41 for Ni(II), Cd(II) and Pb(II) was found to be 12.36, 18.25 and 57.74 mg/g, respectively. The kinetic data of adsorption reactions and the evaluation of adsorption equilibrium parameters were described by pseudo-first-order and pseudo-second-order equations. The synthesized solid sorbents were characterized by Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectrometry, X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and nitrogen sorption measurements.  相似文献

The present study explains the preparation and application of sulfuric acid–treated orange peel (STOP) as a new low-cost adsorbent in the removal of methylene blue (MB) dye from its aqueous solution. The effects of temperature on the operating parameters such as solution pH, adsorbent dose, initial MB dye concentration, and contact time were investigated for the removal of MB dye using STOP. The maximum adsorption of MB dye onto STOP took place in the following experimental conditions: pH of 8.0, adsorbent dose of 0.4 g, contact time of 45 min, and temperature of 30°C. The adsorption equilibrium data were tested by applying both the Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm models. It is observed that the Freundlich isotherm model fitted better than the Langmuir isotherm model, indicating multilayer adsorption, at all studied temperatures. The adsorption kinetic results showed that the pseudo-second-order model was more suitable to explain the adsorption of MB dye onto STOP. The adsorption mechanism results showed that the adsorption process was controlled by both the internal and external diffusion of MB dye molecules. The values of free energy change (ΔG o) and enthalpy change (ΔH o) indicated the spontaneous, feasible, and exothermic nature of the adsorption process. The maximum monolayer adsorption capacity of STOP was also compared with other low-cost adsorbents, and it was found that STOP was a better adsorbent for MB dye removal.  相似文献

The adsorption of methylene blue dye (MBD) from aqueous solutions was investigated using a new composite made up of shrimp waste chitosan and zeolite as adsorbent. Response surface methodology (RSM) was used to optimize the effects of process variables, such as contact time, pH, adsorbent dose and initial MBD concentration on dye removal. The results showed that optimum conditions for removal of MBD were adsorbent dose of 2.5 g/L and pH of 9.0, and initial MBD concentration of 43.75 mg/L and contact time of 138.65 min. The initial concentration of dye had the greatest influence on MBD adsorption among other variables. The experimental data were well fitted by the pseudo-second order kinetic model, while the Freundlich isotherm model indicated a good ability for describing equilibrium data. According to this isotherm model, maximum adsorption capacity of the composite was 24.5 mg/g. Desorption studies showed that the desorption process is favored at low pH under acidic conditions.  相似文献

Mesoporous carbon, CMK-3, was prepared using hexagonal Al-SBA-15 mesoporous silica, instead of SBA-15, as a template. The synthesized materials were examined via X-ray diffraction and N2-adsorption. The mesoporous carbon was studied for its adsorption of dibenzothiophene (DBT) from petroleum fuels. The performance of this adsorbent was compared with SBA-15 and Al-SBA-15, through which CMK-3 showed higher sulfur adsorption capabilities due to a larger mesopore volume and a higher specific surface area. The uptake capacity for DBT followed the order CMK-3 > Al-SBA-15 > SBA-15. The results confirmed the importance of the adsorbent pore size and its surface chemistry for the adsorption of DBT from liquid phase.Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm models were used to fit equilibrium data for CMK-3. The equilibrium data were best represented by the Langmuir isotherm. Kinetic studies were carried out and showed the sorption kinetics of dibenzothiophene was best described by a pseudo-second-order kinetic model.  相似文献

In this study, removal of chromium (VI) from aqueous solution by as-synthesized MCM-48 adsorbent was studied. Cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) was used as a cationic template for the synthesis of MCM-48. The extent of adsorption was investigated as a function of solution pH, agitation speed, contact time, adsorbent and adsorbate concentrations, reaction temperature and supporting electrolyte (sodium chloride). Langmuir and Freundlich isotherms were used to model the adsorption equilibrium data. The adsorption of Cr (VI) is found to be maximum at pH values in the range of 1–3. The yielded maximum adsorption capacity of 153.8 mg/g at initial concentration of 800 (mg/L) is well predicted by of the Langmuir isotherm. Compared to the various adsorbents reported in the literature, the surfactant-containing material prepared in this study showed promise for practical applications.  相似文献

Mesoporous MCM-41 was synthesized at room temperature using tetraethoxysilane (TEOS) with cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) and employed as an effective adsorbent for the adsorption of methylene blue dye from aqueous solution. The as-synthesized MCM-41 was calcined at 250 and 550°C to study the relation between the surface area and pore volume with surfactant removal. The synthesized MCM-41 was characterized using thermo gravimetric analysis (TGA), X-ray diffraction (XRD) patterns, nitrogen adsorption/desorption isotherms and Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy. The MCM-41 calcined at 550°C showed higher surface area (1,059 m2 g?1) with pore volume of 0.89 ml g?1 and was used for the investigation of adsorption isotherms and kinetics. The experimental results indicated that the Freundlich and Redlich-Peterson models expressed the adsorption isotherm better than the Langmuir model. In addition, the influence of temperature and pH on adsorption was also investigated. The decrease in temperature or the increase in pH enhanced the adsorption of dye onto MCM-41. A maximum adsorption capacity of 1.5×10?4 mol g?1 was obtained at 30°C. The kinetic studies showed that the adsorption of dye on MCM-41 follows the pseudo-second-order kinetics.  相似文献

In the present work removal of an azo dye (Reactive Black 5) was investigated from aqueous solution by adsorption onto scallop as a low-cost and widely available adsorbent. The effect of various operational parameters, such as contact time, pH, initial dye concentration and adsorbent dosage on the removal efficiency of dye was studied. Removal efficiency declined with the increase in solution pH and initial dye concentration but with the decrease in adsorbent dosage. Experimental equilibrium and kinetics data were fitted by Langmuir and Freundlich isotherms and pseudo-first-order and pseudo-second-order kinetic models, respectively.  相似文献

The adsorption of cephalexin in aqueous solution has been investigated using bentonite and activated carbon as the adsorbents. Batch kinetics and isotherm studies were carried out to evaluate the effect of contact time, adsorbent dosage, pH, particle size, and temperature. Adsorption equilibrium data were well represented by the Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm models. The adsorption intensity was found to be increased as the aqueous phase pH increased, and had a maximum at pH = 6.1. The pseudo-first order, pseudo-second order, and intraparticle diffusion kinetic models were used to describe the kinetic data. The experimental data fitted very well with the pseudo-second-order kinetic model and also followed the simple external and intraparticle model.  相似文献

In this study, mesoporous MCM-41 has been modified by supporting of lead hexacyanoferrate (PbHCF) as a new adsorbent for strontium. The lead hexacyanoferrate-loaded mesoporous MCM-41 (PbHCF-MCM-41) was characterized using powder X-ray diffraction (XRD) and nitrogen adsorption-desorption isotherm data, infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy coupled with energy dispersive X-ray (SEM-EDX) and its strontium adsorption performance in aqueous solution was investigated. The effect of the various parameters like contact time, temperature, the initial pH value of the solution, and the initial concentration of the strontium ion on the adsorption efficiencies of PbHCF-MCM-41 have been studied systematically by batch experiments. Adsorption isotherm of PbHCF-MCM-41 was studied and the fitted results indicated that the Langmuir model could well represent the adsorption process. The maximum adsorption capacity of Sr2+ onto PbHCF-MCM-41 was found to be 97.09 mg · g?1.  相似文献

Adsorption of acid dyes on SBA-3 ordered mesoporous silica, ethylenediamine functionalized SBA-3 (SBA-3/EDA), aminopropyl functionalized SBA-3 (SBA-3/APTES) and pentaethylene hexamine functionalized SBA-3 (SBA-3/PEHA) materials has been studied. The structural order and textural properties of the synthesized materials have been studied by XRD, FT-IR and nitrogen adsorption-desorption analysis. The adsorption capacity of the adsorbents varies in the following order: SBA-3/PEHA > SBA-3/APTES > SBA-3/EDA > SBA-3. The SBA-3/PEHA is found to have the highest adsorption capacity for all acid dyes. The adsorption mechanism which is based on electrostatic attraction and hydrogen bonding is described. Batch studies were performed to study the effect of various experimental parameters such as chemical modification, contact time, initial concentration, adsorbent dose, agitation speed, solution pH and reaction temperature on the adsorption process. The Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm models have been applied and the Freundlich model was found to be fit with the equilibrium isotherm data. Kinetics of adsorption follows the second-order rate equation.  相似文献

The biosorption of cyanide ions from aqueous solution by bagasse was studied in a batch adsorption system with pH, contact time, cyanide ion concentration, metal ion concentration, and adsorbent dosage as variables. XRD, FT-IR spectroscopy, CHN, proximate, ultimate, and TG/DTG thermal analyses were used for the characterization of bagasse. The biosorption capacities and rates of biosorption of cyanide ions onto bagasse were evaluated. The Langmuir and Freundlich adsorption models were applied to describe the isotherms and isotherm constants. Biosorption isothermal data were interpreted by the Langmuir model followed by the Freundlich model with maximum adsorption capacity of 98% of cyanide ion on bagasse. The kinetic experimental data were properly correlated with the first- and second-order kinetic model.  相似文献

In this research, NH2-MCM-48 adsorbent was synthesized by grafting of aminopropyl on the surface of MCM-48 mesoporous silica material. The synthesized adsorbent was characterized by FT-IR, XRD, thermogravimetric, and surface area techniques. The removal of Sr (II) by the synthesized adsorbent was studied and the effect of initial pH, contact time, cation concentration, and temperature on the Sr2+ adsorption was studied and optimized. Under optimized conditions, the removal capacity of 5.95 meq/g was obtained. The experimental data were analyzed using the Langmuir and Freundlich equations. Adsorption data was fitted with the Langmuir isotherm, indicating that the process was monolayer and chemical in nature. The calculated thermodynamic parameters, ΔH°, ΔS°, and ΔG° confirmed that the adsorption process was endothermic and spontaneous. The regeneration of the adsorbent was examined and it was found that 92% of the initial capacity was conserved after five successive regeneration cycles.  相似文献

Sepiolite, low cost, locally available and natural mineral was studied as an adsorbent for the removal of Basic Astrazon yellow 7GL from aqueous solutions and batch contact tests. The kinetics of the adsorption process was tested for the pseudo-first order, pseudo-second order reaction and intra-particle diffusion models. The rate constants of adsorption for all these kinetic models were calculated. Good correlation coefficients were obtained for the pseudo-second order kinetic model. Langmuir, Freundlich and Dubinin-Radushkevich isotherm models were applied to the experimental equilibrium data by changing temperature. The isotherm constants were determined by using the linear regression of these models. The monolayer coverage capacities of sepiolite for basic dye were found to be in the range of 62.5-88.5 mg/g at different temperatures. Thermodynamic studies showed that the reaction for dye uptake by sepiolite is endothermic in nature. Based on the optimum parameters sepiolite was also used as adsorbent for raw wastewater treatment and found as efficient as dye color removal.  相似文献

Surface modified mesostructured silica materials represent potential adsorbents offering an opportunity to remediate several important water pollutants. In the present work, ammonium-functionnalized MCM-41, MCM-48 and SBA-15 mesoporous silica materials were synthesized via post-synthesis grafting and co-condensation. Their efficiency to remove nitrate and phosphate anions in aqueous solutions was investigated. The adsorbent materials showed high adsorption capacities reaching 46.5 mg NO3/g and 55.9 mg H2PO4/g under the operating conditions explored. The mesoporous silica materials functionalized via post-synthesis grafting method exhibited higher performances in terms of percentage pollutant removal and adsorption capacities if compared to their analogs synthesized according to the co-condensation strategy.  相似文献

采用3-氨丙基三甲氧基硅烷(APTMS)对SBA-15介孔硅进行改性,获得氨基功能化介孔硅吸附剂(NH2-SBA-15),从而赋予其螯合重金属离子的能力。利用XRD、SEM、TEM、EDX、TGA、BET和XPS等手段对吸附剂的表面形貌、孔道结构、元素分布和表面化学性质进行了表征。研究了NH2-SBA-15吸附剂对水溶液中铬(Ⅲ)的吸附性能,分析了吸附动力学、吸附热力学和再生性能。结果表明,SBA-15吸附剂经过氨基功能化后,其原有的结晶结构没有明显变化,且对铬(Ⅲ)的吸附性能显著提高。NH2-SBA-15对铬(Ⅲ)的吸附行为符合Langmuir等温吸附模型和拟二级吸附动力学方程。NH2-SBA-15对铬(Ⅲ)的吸附过程主要依靠其表面—NH2与铬(Ⅲ)的配位螯合作用,且为吸热过程。经过5次循环利用后,NH2-SBA-15对铬(Ⅲ)的吸附率仍然保持在92%以上。该氨基功能化介孔硅吸附剂在吸附铬(Ⅲ)方面具有潜在的应用前景。  相似文献

The aim of this paper is to evaluate the efficiency of the natural hydroxyapatite powder for anionic dye (Congo red) elimination from water and optimization of adsorption process parameters that are contact time (0-360 min), solution pH (4-9), initial dye concentration (400-2400 mg/l), and adsorbent dosage (0.4-20 g/l). Natural hydroxyapatite with high surface area was prepared from animal agriculture waste dromedary bone. X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, transform infrared spectroscopy, and elemental analysis characterizations of the powder prepared show a hexagonal structure, the irregular form of hydroxyapatite and presence of other elements as trace element. The results of adsorption tests demonstrated the high efficiency of natural hydroxyapatite for removal of Congo red from water solution whose maximum experimental capacity adsorption of Congo red by natural hydroxyapatite is 900 mg/g at pH 4.5, equilibrium time 240 min and adsorbent dosage 2 g/l. According to the correlation coefficient value, the pseudo-second order kinetic model identified the sorption mechanism of pollutant used on natural hydroxyapatite. The Freundlich isotherm is the best representative theoretical model of the dye molecules’ adsorption on the natural hydroxyapatite support.  相似文献

Erythrosine B is extensively used in the textile and food industry. It is reported to be a neurotoxicant and is carcinogenic in nature. It can induce DNA damage in the gastrointestinal organs even at low doses. In this study, adsorption efficiency of montmorillonite (MMT) has been investigated for the removal of erythrosine B (EB) from aqueous solution. The batch adsorption model was developed to predict the equilibrium adsorption capacity with respect to the pH of the dye solution, contact time, initial dye concentration, and adsorbent dosage. A maximum monolayer adsorption capacity of 578.03 mg/g was obtained at the original pH (7.5) of the aqueous dye solution within 5 minutes of contact time. It was found that the Langmuir adsorption isotherm yielded the most favorable representation of the adsorption behavior of EB. The dye was found to be chemisorbed on the adsorbent as confirmed by the FTIR spectral analysis. Although anionic in nature, the dye was found to be intercalated into the clay interlayers as suggested by the X-ray diffraction studies.  相似文献

The adsorption of furfural by a surfactant-containing nanoporous material is investigated in the present study. We used cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) as the cationic surfactant for synthesis of MCM-48. Batch adsorption studies demonstrate that the surfactant-containing MCM-48 has a significant capacity for adsorption of furfural from aqueous solution. The parameters investigated in this study included pH, contact time, agitation speed and initial furfural concentration. The adsorption process of furfural is tested with Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm models. Application of the Langmuir isotherm to the systems yielded maximum adsorption capacity of 196.1 mg/g.  相似文献
