pH and thermo‐responsive graft copolymers are reported where thermo‐responsive poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide) [poly(NIPAAm), poly A ], poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide‐co‐2‐(diethylamino) ethyl methacrylate) [poly(NIPAAm‐co‐DEA), poly B ], and poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide‐co‐methacrylic acid) [poly(NIPAAm‐co‐MAA), poly C ] have been installed to benzaldehyde grafted polyethylene glycol (PEG) back bone following introducing a pH responsive benzoic‐imine bond. All the prepared graft copolymers for PEG‐g‐poly(NIPAAm) [ P‐N1 ], PEG‐g‐poly(NIPAAm‐co‐DEA) [ P‐N2 ], and PEG‐g‐poly(NIPAAm‐co‐MAA) [ P‐N3 ] were characterized by 1H‐NMR to assure the successful synthesis of the expected polymers. Molecular weight of all synthesized polymers was evaluated following gel permeation chromatography. The lower critical solution temperature of graft copolymers varied significantly when grafted to benzaldehyde containing PEG and after further functionalization of copolymer based poly(NIPAAm). The contact angle experiment showed the changes in hydrophilic/hydrophobic behavior when the polymers were exposed to different pH and temperature. Particle size measurement investigation by dynamic light scattering was performed to rectify thermo and pH responsiveness of all prepared polymers. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. Polym. Polyaniline (PANI), poly(o‐anisidine), and poly[aniline‐co‐(o‐anisidine)] were synthesized by chemical oxidative polymerization with ammonium persulfate as an oxidizing reagent in an HCl medium. The viscosities, electrical conductivity, and crystallinity of the resulting polymers (self‐doped forms) were compared with those of the doped and undoped forms. The self‐doped, doped, and undoped forms of these polymers were characterized with infrared spectroscopy, ultraviolet–visible spectroscopy, and a four‐point‐probe conductivity method. X‐ray diffraction characterization revealed the crystalline nature of the polymers. The observed decrease in the conductivity of the copolymer and poly(o‐anisidine) with respect to PANI was attributed to the incorporation of the methoxy moieties into the PANI chain. The homopolymers attained conductivity in the range of 3.97 × 10?3 to 7.8 S/cm after doping with HCl. The conductivity of the undoped forms of the poly[aniline‐co‐(o‐anisidine)] and poly(o‐anisidine) was observed to be lower than 10?5 J/S cm?1. The conductivity of the studied polymer forms decreased by the doping process in the following order: self‐doped → doped → undoped. The conductivity of the studied polymers decreased by the monomer species in the following order: PANI → poly[aniline‐co‐(o‐anisidine)] → poly(o‐anisidine). All the polymer samples were largely amorphous, but with the attachment of the pendant groups of anisidine to the polymer system, the crystallinity region increased. The undoped form of poly[aniline‐co‐(o‐anisidine)] had good solubility in common organic solvents, whereas doped poly[aniline‐co‐(o‐anisidine)] was moderately crystalline and exhibited higher conductivity than the anisidine homopolymer. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. New hybrid poly(hydroxyethyl methacrylate‐co‐methyl methacrylate)‐g‐polyhedral oligosilsesquioxane [poly(HEMA‐co‐MMA)‐g‐POSS] nanocomposites were synthesized by the combination of reversible addition fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization and click chemistry using a grafting to protocol. Initially, the random copolymer poly(HEMA‐co‐MMA) was prepared by RAFT polymerization of HEMA and MMA. Alkynyl side groups were introduced onto the polymeric backbones by esterification reaction between 4‐pentynoic acid and the hydroxyl groups on poly(HEMA‐co‐MMA). Azide‐substituted POSS (POSS? N3) was prepared by the reaction of chloropropyl‐heptaisobutyl‐substituted POSS with NaN3. The click reaction of poly(HEMA‐co‐MMA)‐alkyne and POSS? N3 using CuBr/PMDEATA as a catalyst afforded poly(HEMA‐co‐MMA)‐g‐POSS. The structure of the organic/inorganic hybrid material was investigated by Fourier transformed infrared, 1H‐NMR, and 29Si‐NMR. The elemental mapping analysis of the hybrid using X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy and EDX also suggest the formation of poly(HEMA‐co‐MMA)‐anchored POSS nanocomposites. The XRD spectrum of the nanocomposites gives evidence that the incorporation of POSS moiety leads to a hybrid physical structure. The morphological feature of the hybrid nanocomposites as captured by field emission scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopic analyses indicate that a thick layer of polymer brushes was immobilized on the POSS cubic nanostructures. The gel permeation chromatography analysis of poly(HEMA‐co‐MMA) and poly(HEMA‐co‐MMA)‐g‐POSS further suggests the preparation of nanocomposites by the combination of RAFT and click chemistry. The thermogravimetric analysis revealed that the thermal property of the poly(HEMA‐co‐MMA) copolymer was significantly improved by the inclusion of POSS in the copolymer matrix. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Two novel phenyl‐substituted poly(p‐phenylene vinylene) derivatives, poly{2‐[3′,4′‐(2″‐ethylhexyloxy)(3″,7″‐dimethyloctyloxy)benzene]‐1,4‐phenylenevinylene} (EDP‐PPV) and poly{2‐[3′,4′‐(2″‐ethylhexyloxy)(3″,7″‐dimethyloctyloxy)benzene]‐5‐methoxy‐1,4‐phenylenevinylene} (EDMP‐PPV), and their copolymer, poly{2‐[3′,4′‐(2″‐ethylhexyloxy)(3″,7″‐dimethyloctyloxy)benzene]‐1,4‐phenylene‐vinylene‐co‐2‐[3′,4′‐(2″‐ethylhexyloxy)(3″,7″‐dimethyloctyloxy)benzene]‐5‐methoxy‐1,4‐phenylenevinylene} (EDP‐co‐EDMP‐PPV; 4:1, 1:1, and 1:4), were successfully synthesized according to the Gilch route. The structures and properties of the monomers and the resulting conjugated polymers were characterized with 1H‐NMR, 13C‐NMR, elemental analysis, gel permeation chromatography, thermogravimetric analysis, ultraviolet–visible absorption spectroscopy, and photoluminescence and electroluminescence (EL) spectroscopy. The EL polymers possessed excellent solubility in common solvents and good thermal stability with a 5% weight loss temperature of more than 380°C. The weight‐average molecular weights and polydispersity indices of EDP‐PPV, EDMP‐PPV, and EDP‐co‐EDMP‐PPV were 1.40–2.58 × 105, and 1.19–1.52, respectively. Double‐layer light‐emitting diodes with the configuration of indium tin oxide/polymer/tris(8‐hydroxyquinoline)aluminum/Al devices were fabricated, and EDP‐co‐EDMP‐PPV (1:1) showed the highest EL performance and exhibited a maximum luminance of 1050 cd/m2 at 19.5 V. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Radical copolymerizations of 1‐vinyl‐2‐pyrrolidone with acrylamide and N,N′‐dimethylacrylamide at different feed ratios were investigated. The copolymers were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, 1H NMR, and 13C NMR spectroscopy. The copolymer composition was determined from the 1H NMR spectra and found to be statistical. The metal complexation of poly(acrylamide‐co‐1‐vinyl‐2‐pyrrolidone) and poly(N,N′‐dimethylacrylamide‐co‐1‐vinyl‐2‐pyrrolidone) for the metal ions Cu(II), Co(II), Ni(II), Cd(II), Zn(II), Pb(II), Fe(III), and Cr(III) were investigated in an aqueous phase. The liquid‐phase polymer‐based retention method is based on the retention of inorganic ions by soluble polymers in a membrane filtration cell and subsequent separation of low‐molecular compounds from the polymer complex formed. The metal ion interaction with the hydrophilic polymers was determined as a function of the pH and the filtration factor. Poly(N,N‐dimethylacrylamide‐co‐1‐vinyl‐2‐pyrrolidone) showed a higher affinity for the metal ions than poly(acrylamide‐co‐1‐vinyl‐2‐pyrrolidone). According to the interaction pattern obtained, Cr(III) and Cu(II) formed the most stable complexes at pH 7. Pb(II) and Zn(II) were not retained. © 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide‐co‐hydroxyethyl methacrylate) [P(NIPAM‐co‐HEMA)] copolymer was synthesized by controlled radical polymerization from respective N‐isopropylacrylamide (NIPAM) and hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA) monomers with a predetermined ratio. To prepare the thermosensitive and biodegradable nanoparticles, new thermosensitive graft copolymer, poly(L ‐lactide)‐graft‐poly(N‐isoporylacrylamide‐co‐hydroxyethyl methacrylate) [PLLA‐g‐P(NIPAM‐co‐HEMA)], with the lower critical solution temperature (LCST) near the normal body temperature, was synthesized by ring opening polymerization of L ‐lactide in the presence of P(NIPAM‐co‐HEMA). The amphiphilic property of the graft copolymers was formed by the grafting of the PLLA hydrophobic chains onto the PNIPAM based hydrophilic backbone. Therefore, the graft copolymers can self‐assemble into uniformly spherical micelles ò about 150–240 nm in diameter as observed by the field emission scanning electron microscope and dynamic light scattering. Dexamethasone can be loaded into these nanostructures during dialysis with a relative high loading capacity and its in vitro release depends on temperature. Above the LCST, most of the drugs were released from the drug‐loaded micelles, whereas a large amount of drugs still remains in the micelles after 48 h below the LCST. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Hydrogels are hydrophilic polymers that swell to an equilibrium volume in the presence of water, preserving their shape. The dynamic swelling behavior of poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide‐coN,N‐dimethylacrylamide) [poly(NIPA‐co‐DMA)] copolymers at 37°C was investigated. It was observed that the swelling degree in the copolymers decreases with the N‐isopropylacrylamide content. In addition, the liberation mechanism was found to be Fickian. Diffusion coefficients according to Fick′s law as a function of the N‐isopropylacrylamide concentration and results of the release process are reported. The kinetics of cephazoline sodium release from poly(NIPA‐co‐DMA) hydrogels with different compositions was studied. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci 91: 3433–3437, 2004  相似文献

A series of new copolymers with desired thermal stability and mechanical properties for applications in leather industry were synthesized from various substituted maleimides and alkyl acrylates. Polymerization was carried out by a free‐radical polymerization using benzoyl peroxide (BPO) as initiator. The monomers and polymers synthesized were characterized by elemental analysis, IR, and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR). Interestingly, these polymers were soluble in common organic solvents. Copolymer composition and reactivity ratios were determined by 1H‐NMR spectra. The molecular weights of the polymers were determined by gel permeation chromatography. The homo‐ and copolymer of maleimide showed single‐stage decomposition (ranging from 300–580°C). The initial decomposition temperatures of poly[N‐(phenyl)maleimide] [poly(PM)], poly[N‐4‐(methylphenyl)maleimide] [poly(MPM)] and poly[N‐3‐(chlorophenyl)maleimide] [poly(CPM)] were higher compared to those of the copolymers. Heat‐resistant adhesives such as blends of epoxy resin with phenyl‐substituted maleimide‐co‐glycidyl methacrylate copolymers with improved adhesion property were developed. Different adhesive formulations of these copolymaleimides were prepared by curing with diethanolamine at two different temperatures (30°C and 60°C). © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. A copolymer of styrene with N‐benzyl‐4‐vinylpyridinium chloride (BVP), poly(styrene‐coN‐benzyl‐4‐vinylpyridinium chloride) (PST‐co‐BVP), was degradable by activated sludge in soil when the oligo‐styrene portion was sufficiently small. The degradation of the equimolar copolymer followed first‐order kinetics when the polymer sample was 1.0 or 0.5 g/kg and gave a half‐life of 5.6 days. The degradation of PST‐co‐BVP with a reduced BVP content did not follow first‐order kinetics under the aforementioned conditions but appeared to follow the kinetics when the amount of the polymer sample was sufficiently small. Under the ultimate conditions, the half‐life of PST‐co‐BVP that contained 10.6 mol % BVP was estimated to be 12.5 days, and the half‐life of PST‐co‐BVP that contained 5 mol % BVP was expected to be 30–40 days. The incorporation of 5 mol % BVP appeared sufficient for making PST‐co‐BVP substantially biodegradable if we did not expect exceptionally rapid degradation. PST‐co‐BVP was different from conventional polystyrene but possessed biodegradability. Random scission of the main chain much predominated over uniform scission from the end of the polymer chain in the biodegradation of PST‐co‐BVP. The cleavage of the main chain at BVP appeared predominant over that of oligo‐styrene. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci 100: 554–559. 2006  相似文献

The thermoresponsive properties in aqueous solution of the graft copolymer poly(acrylic acid‐co‐2‐acrylamido‐2‐methyl propane sulfonic acid)‐g‐poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide) [P(AA‐co‐AMPSA)‐g‐PNIPAM] were studied and compared to the corresponding behavior of the poly(acrylic acid)‐g‐poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide) (PAA‐g‐PNIPAM) graft product. Both products contain about 40% (w/w) of PNIPAM, whereas the backbone, P(AA‐co‐AMPSA), of the first copolymer contains about 40% of AMPSA mole units. The strongly charged P(AA‐co‐AMPSA)‐g‐PNIPAM graft copolymer was water soluble over the whole pH range, whereas the PAA‐g‐PNIPAM copolymer precipitated out from water at pH < 4. As a result, the first product exhibited a temperature‐sensitive behavior in a wide pH range, extended in the acidic region, whereas in semidilute aqueous solutions, an important thermothickening behavior was observed, even at low pH (pH = 3.0). © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In this work, biocompatible hydrogel matrices for wound‐dressing materials and controlled drug‐release systems were prepared from poly[hydroxyethyl methacrylate‐co‐poly(ethylene glycol)–methacrylate] [p(HEMA‐co‐PEG–MA] films via UV‐initiated photopolymerization. The characterization of the hydrogels was conducted with swelling experiments, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, thermogravimetric analysis (differential scanning calorimetry), and contact‐angle studies. The water absorbency of the hydrogel films significantly changed with the change of the medium pH from 4.0 to 7.4. The thermal stability of the copolymer was lowered by an increase in the ratio of poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) to methacrylate (MA) in the film structure. Contact‐angle measurements on the surface of the p(HEMA‐co‐PEG–MA) films demonstrated that the copolymer gave rise to a significant hydrophilic surface in comparison with the homopolymer of 2‐hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA). The blood protein adsorption was significantly reduced on the surface of the copolymer hydrogels in comparison with the control homopolymer of HEMA. Model antibiotic (i.e., minocycline) release experiments were performed in physiological buffer saline solutions with a continuous flow release system. The amount of minocycline release was shown to be dependent on the HEMA/PEG–MA ratio. The hydrogels have good antifouling properties and therefore are suitable candidates for wound dressing and other tissue engineering applications. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A copolymer of dendronized poly(p‐phenylene vinylene) (PPV), poly{2‐[3′,5′‐bis (2′‐ethylhexyloxy) bnenzyloxy]‐1,4‐phenylene vinylene}‐co‐poly[2‐methoxy‐5‐(2′‐ethylhexyloxy)‐1,4‐phenylene vinylene] (BE‐co‐MEH–PPV), was synthesized with the Gilch route to improve the electroluminescence and photovoltaic properties of the dendronized PPV homopolymer. The polymer was characterized by ultraviolet–visible absorption spectroscopy, photoluminescence spectroscopy, and electrochemical cyclic voltammetry and compared with the homopolymers poly{2‐[3′, 5′‐bis(2‐ethylhexyloxy) benzyloxy‐1,4‐phenylene vinylene} (BE–PPV) and poly[2‐methoxy‐5‐(2′‐ethylhexyloxy)‐1,4‐phenylenevinylene] (MEH–PPV). Polymer light‐emitting diodes based on the polymers with the configuration of indium tin oxide (ITO)/poly(3,4‐ethylene dioxythiophene) : poly(styrene sulfonate) (PEDOT : PSS)/polymer/Ca/Al were fabricated. The electroluminescence efficiency of BE‐co‐MEH–PPV reached 1.64 cd/A, which was much higher than that of BE–PPV (0.68 cd/A) and a little higher than that of MEH–PPV (1.59 cd/A). Photovoltaic properties of the polymer were studied with the device configuration of ITO/PEDOT : PSS/polymer : [6,6J‐phenyl‐C61‐butyric acid methyl ester] (PCBM)/Mg/Al. The power conversion efficiency of the device based on the blend of BE‐co‐MEH–PPV and PCBM with a weight ratio of 1 : 3 reached 1.41% under the illumination of air mass 1.5 (AM1.5) (80 mW/cm2), and this was an improvement in comparison with 0.24% for BE–PPV and 1.32% for MEH–PPV under the same experimental conditions. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Copolymer of thiophen‐3‐yl acetic acid 4‐pyrrol‐1‐yl phenyl ester (TAPE) with N‐methylpyrrole (NMPy) was synthesized by potentiostatic electrochemical polymerization in acetonitrile–tetrabutylammonium tetrafluoroborate solvent–electrolyte couple. The chemical structures were confirmed via Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), cyclic voltammetry (CV), and UV–vis spectroscopy. Electrochromic and spectroelectrochemical properties of poly(TAPE‐co‐NMPy) [P(TAPE‐co‐NMPy)] were investigated. Results showed that the copolymer revealed color change between light yellow and green upon doping and dedoping of the copolymer, with a moderate switching time. Furthermore, as an application, dual‐type absorptive/transmissive polymer electrochromic device (ECD) based on poly(TAPE‐co‐NMPy) and poly(3,4‐ethylene dioxythiophene) (PEDOT) have been assembled, where spectroelectrochemistry, switching ability, stability, and optical memory of the ECD were investigated. Results showed that the device exhibited good optical memory and stability with moderate switching time. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci 100: 1988–1994, 2006  相似文献

We carried out the free‐radical copolymerization of N‐phenylmaleimide with acrylic acid and acrylamide with an equimolar feed monomer ratio. We carried out the synthesis of the copolymers in dioxane at 70°C with benzoyl peroxide as the initiator and a total monomer concentration of 2.5M. The copolymer compositions were obtained by elemental analysis and 1H‐NMR spectroscopy. The hydrophilic polymers were characterized by elemental analysis, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, 1H‐NMR spectroscopy, and thermal analysis. Additionally, viscosimetric measurements of the copolymers were performed. Hydrophilic poly(N‐phenylmaleimide‐co‐acrylic acid) and poly(N‐phenylmaleimide‐co‐acrylamide) were used for the separation of a series of metal ions in the aqueous phase with the liquid‐phase polymer‐based retention method in the heterogeneous phase. The method is based on the retention of inorganic ions by the polymer in conjunction with membrane filtration and subsequent separation of low‐molecular‐mass species from the formed polymer/metal‐ion complex. The polymer could bind several metal ions, such as Cr(III), Co (II), Zn(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), Cd(II), and Fe(III) inorganic ions, in aqueous solution at pH values of 3, 5, and 7. The interaction of the inorganic ions with the hydrophilic polymer was determined as a function of pH and a filtration factor. Hydrophilic polymeric reagents with strong metal‐complexing properties were synthesized and used to separate those complexed from noncomplexed ions in the heterogeneous phase. The polymers exhibited a high retention capability at pH values of 5 and 7. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci, 2006  相似文献

A water‐soluble statistical poly(N‐acryloylmorpholine‐coN‐acryloxysuccinimide) [poly(NAM/NAS)] copolymer was studied for polymer–oligonucleotide (ODN) conjugate elaboration and for further use in diagnostic applications. Three different copolymers were first prepared by free‐radical solution polymerization with different N‐acryloylmorpholine (NAM) and N‐acryloxysuccinimide (NAS) molar ratios (80/20, 70/30, and 60/40). Their number‐average molecular weights ranged from 98,000 to 120,000 g/mol, as determined by aqueous size exclusion chromatography with an online light‐scattering detector. Then, polymer–ODN conjugates were obtained via a strategy consisting of the direct synthesis of ODNs onto polymer chains previously grafted onto a controlled pore glass support. Before the grafting of the polymer onto the solid support, a preliminary step was performed to bind a nucleotide starter along the polymer chain (via the reactive NAS units) to initiate automated DNA synthesis. To multiply the number of ODNs growing from starters, a branched phosphoramidite synthon [bearing two O‐dimethoxytrityl groups] was introduced at the first step of ODN elongation as a short sequence of four branched synthons alternated with three thymidine residues. Conjugates were assessed in a DNA sandwich hybridization test developed for hepatitis B virus detection. Sensitivity limits were evaluated and compared to those obtained with an other polymer, poly(maleic anhydride‐alt‐methyl vinyl ether) [poly(MA/MVE)]. A sensitivity limit of 2.6 × 107 DNA copies/mL was reached with the poly(MA/MVE)–ODN conjugate at the capture phase and with the poly(NAM/NAS)–branched ODN conjugate at the detection phase of the test. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Strongly adherent poly(aniline‐coo‐toluidine) coatings were synthesized on low‐carbon‐steel substrates by the electrochemical copolymerization of aniline with o‐toluidine with sodium tartrate as the supporting electrolyte. These coatings were characterized with cyclic voltammetry, ultraviolet–visible absorption spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, and scanning electron microscopy. The formation of the copolymer with the mixture of monomers in the aqueous sodium tartrate solution was ascertained by a critical comparison of the results obtained from the polymerizations of the individual monomers, aniline and o‐toluidine. The optical absorption spectrum of the copolymer was drastically different from the spectra of the respective homopolymers, polyaniline and poly(o‐toluidine). The extent of the corrosion protection offered by poly(aniline‐coo‐toluidine) coatings to low‐carbon steel was investigated in aqueous 3% NaCl solutions by open‐circuit‐potential measurements and a potentiodynamic polarization technique. The results of the potentiodynamic polarization measurements showed that the poly(aniline‐coo‐toluidine) coatings provided more effective corrosion protection to low‐carbon steel than the respective homopolymers. The corrosion rate depended on the feed ratio of o‐toluidine used for the synthesis of the copolymer coatings. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci 103:1868–1878, 2007  相似文献

In the current study, poly(N‐vinylpyrrolidone‐co‐2‐acrylamido‐2‐methylpropanesulfonate sodium), poly(VP‐co‐AMPS), was prepared and used for the removal of Cu2+, Cd2+, and Ni2+ ions via a polymer‐enhanced ultrafiltration (PEUF) technique. The copolymer was synthesized by radical polymerization in an aqueous medium with a comonomer feed composition of 50:50 mol %. The molecular structure of the copolymer was elucidated by ATR‐FTIR and 1H NMR spectroscopy, and the average molecular weight was obtained by GPC. The copolymer composition was determined to be 0.42 for VP and 0.58 for AMPS by 1H NMR spectroscopy. The copolymer and homopolymers exhibited different retention properties for the metal ions. PAMPS exhibited a high retention capacity for all of the metal ions at both pH values studied. PVP exhibited selectivity for nickel ions. Poly(VP‐co‐AMPS) exhibited a lower retention capacity compared to PAMPS. However, for poly(VP‐co‐AMPS), selectivity for nickel ions was observed, and the retention of copper and cadmium ions increased compared to PVP. The homopolymer mixture containing PAMPS and PVP was inefficient for the retention of the studied metal ions. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. Polym. Sci. 2015 , 132, 41272.  相似文献

Thermoresponsive amphiphilic copolymer, poly[N‐isopropyl acrylamide‐co‐3‐(trimethoxysilyl)propylmethacrylate]‐b‐poly{N‐[3‐(dimethylamino)propyl]methacrylamide} with a branched structure was designed and synthesized by consecutive reversible addition–fragmentation chain‐transfer polymerization. The further hydrolysis of trimethoxysilyl functions in 3‐(trimethoxysilyl) propyl methacrylate units led to the fabrication of core‐crosslinked (CCL) micelles with silica crosslinks at temperatures above the lower critical solution temperature of the poly(N‐isopropyl acrylamide) block. The thermally induced structural and morphological changes of the CCL micelles in aqueous solution were investigated by transmission electron microscopy and 1H‐NMR analyses. The resulting CCL micelles were further explored as nanocarriers for the codelivery of an anticancer drug and nucleic acid for enhanced therapeutic efficacy. The CCL micelles effectively condensed the nucleic acid and mediated higher gene transfer in the presence of serum than in serum‐free transduction. A cytotoxicity study revealed that whereas the pure CCL micelles exhibited unapparent cytotoxicity, the codelivery of p53 and doxorubicin with the CCL micelle formulation resulted in better treatment efficiency than sole chemotherapy. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The reactivity ratios for the aqueous free‐radical copolymerization of diallyldimethylammonium chloride and N‐vinylformamide were found to be 0.13 and 1.92, respectively, from a Fineman–Ross analysis of a series of batch polymerizations. Because batch polymerization could not give a uniform product in a high yield with two monomers of such different reactivities, a semibatch procedure was developed in which the more reactive N‐vinylformamide was added in 10 steps over the course of the copolymerization. The poly(diallyldimethyl‐ ammonium chloride‐coN‐vinylformamide) copolymers were hydrolyzed to give poly(diallyldimethylammonium chloride‐co‐vinylamine). The utility of the vinylamine/diallyldimethylammonium chloride copolymers was demonstrated by the preparation and characterization of three derivatives: (1) a copolymer with coupled dansyl groups for fluorescence detection; (2) a copolymer with coupled dabsyl groups for ultraviolet–visible detection; and (3) an ultra‐high‐molecular‐weight (1.6 × 106 Da) poly(diallyldimethylammonium chloride) by chain extension (coupling) with glycerol diglycidyl ether. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Ferrocene‐substituted conducting polymer namely poly(trans‐1‐(4‐methyl‐3′‐thienyl)‐2‐(ferrocenyl)ethene‐co‐3,4‐ethylenedioxythiophene) [P(MTFE‐co‐EDOT)] was synthesized and its electrochromic properties were studied. Monomer, MTFE, was obtained using 2‐(ferrocenyl)ethene and 3‐methyl‐4‐bromothiophene. The structure of monomer was determined via Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), 1H‐NMR, and 13C‐NMR techniques. The copolymer was synthesized using this monomer and EDOT. The resulting copolymer P(MTFE‐co‐EDOT) was characterized by cyclic voltammetry, FTIR, scanning electron microscopy, atomic force microscopy, and UV–vis spectroscopy. The conductivity measurements of copolymer and PEDOT were accomplished by the four‐probe technique. Although poly(trans‐1‐(4‐methyl‐3′‐thienyl)‐2‐(ferrocenyl)ethene) [P(MTFE)] reveals no electrochromic activity, its copolymer with EDOT has two different colors (violet and gray). Band gap (Eg) and λmax of P(MTFE‐co‐EDOT) were determined. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci, 2012  相似文献
