Strawberry cvs Korona and Elsanta, differing in their sensitivity to salt stress, were exposed to 0, 40, or 80 mM NaCl in the root medium from the end of April to mid-August. Although fruits of both cultivars contained comparable amounts of Na+ and Cl, fruit quality was more impaired in cv. Elsanta, as indicated by the larger reductions of fruit size and sugar/acid ratios. Malondialdehyde levels started to rise significantly at 40 mM NaCl in the more sensitive cv. Elsanta, but at 80 mM in cv. Korona. Total amino acid levels, especially contents of essential amino acids, rose significantly in both cvs. Salt stress also increased contents of free proline, asparagine, and glutamine. Their increases may contribute to osmotic adjustment. The results of the present study favour the interpretation that elevated levels of proline, asparagine and glutamine are indicative of salt stress damage.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to compare the value of Senga Sengana, a long-term standard cultivar, with other cultivars grown in northwest Poland, namely Dukat, Elkat, Selva, Elsanta and Kent. The fruits were obtained from a commercial plantation and cultivated by applying conventional farming practice. Among the strawberry cultivars studied Elsanta berries had the highest vitamin C content and its leaves the highest ellagic acid content. Kent berries had the highest contents of total sugar, total polyphenol, total anthocyanin and ellagic acid derivatives. Dukat berries had the highest dry weight and soluble solids content. Senga Sengana berries had a slightly higher 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical-scavenging effect than other cultivars. Consumer-objective colour measurements were performed to evaluate the quality of the fruit. Elsanta and Elkat berries were found to have the highest L (lightness), a* (redness), C* (chromaticity) and h (hue angle) values.  相似文献

Modifications of fruit quality, in response to a long-term salt stress of four months, were studied in two strawberry cultivars differing in their sensitivity to salinity. The sensitive cv. Elsanta and the less sensitive cv. Korona were treated during two vegetation seasons with 0, 40 or 80 mmol NaCl/l in the nutrient solution. While mean fruit weight decreased, dry matter and contents of total soluble carbohydrates, as well as sweetness index of fruits, remained constant. Salt stress in both cultivars increased the antioxidant capacity, antioxidants pools (ascorbic acid, anthocyanins, superoxide dismutase) and selected minerals such as Na+, Cl, K+, N, P and Zn2+, as well as lipid peroxidation. Furthermore, salt stress increased the contents of free and essential amino acids, especially in cv. Elsanta. The more tolerant cv. Korona was characterized by an increase of reduced glutathione and a better fruit taste. In salt-stressed fruits of cv. Elsanta, taste was significantly impaired.  相似文献

Two strawberry (Fragaria × ananassa Duch.) cultivars differing in their sensitivity to NaCl stress, cv. Elsanta (sensitive) and cv. Korona (less sensitive), were cultivated under 0, 40 and 80 mmol NaCl/l for two months during flowering and fruiting until final fruit harvest. Modifications of sensory quality parameters and selected chemical properties of the non-climacteric fruit were evaluated. Generally, NaCl salinity decreased quality of strawberry fruit, especially in cv. Elsanta. Fruits of stressed plants contained lower amounts of sugars, organic acids and soluble solids, were less sweet and did not meet consumers’ requirements. Overall appearance of fruits decreased significantly. The reduced acceptance to consumers was closely correlated with the decline of sugar contents, especially sucrose content, as well as with the increase of organic acids, such as acetic acid. Sensory changes were revised on the basis of a dose to threshold relationship. Decreasing contributions of sugars to taste and a rising importance of sodium, acetic and citric acids as the most taste-relevant compounds were the main causes of the limited acceptance of salt-stressed fruits.  相似文献

Abstract: Sugars, organic acids, and total phenolic content in fruit of 25 wild and cultivated berry species were identified and quantified with high‐performance liquid chromatograph. The composition of sugars, organic acids, and total phenolic compounds in various species of Vaccinium, Rubus, Ribes, and Fragaria genus was evaluated. Additonally, total phenolics of less known berry species of the Morus, Amelanchier, Sorbus, Sambucus, Rosa, Lycium, Actinidia, and Aronia genus were determined in wild growing as well as in cultivated fruits. Significant differences in the concentration of sugars and organic acids were detected among the berry species. Glucose and fructose were the most abundant sugars in berry fruits and the major organic acids were malic and citric acid. However, in kiwi fruit, sucrose represented as much as 71.9% of total sugars. Sorbitol has been detected and quantified in chokeberry, rowanberry, and eastern shadbush fruit. The highest content of total analyzed sugars was determined in rowanberry fruit, followed by dog rose, eastern shadbush, hardy kiwifruit, American cranberry, chokeberry, and jostaberry fruit. Rowanberry stands out as the fruit with the highest content of total analyzed organic acids, followed by jostaberry, lingonberry, red gooseberry, hardy kiwifruit, and black currant. The berries of white gooseberry, black currant, red currant, and white currant had the lowest sugar/organic acid ratio and were thus perceptively the sourest species analyzed. On the other hand, the species with highest sugar/organic acid ratio were goji berry, eastern shadbush, black mulberry, and wild grown blackberry. The highest amounts of total phenols were quantified in chokeberry fruit. Wild strawberry, raspberry, and blackberry had 2‐ to 5‐fold more total phenolics compared to cultivated plants. Practical Application: The fruit of analyzed berry species contained different levels of sugars, organic acids, and total phenolics. Moreover, it has been demonstrated that wild grown species generally contain more phenolics than cultivated ones. This information is interesting for nutritionists as well as berry growers and breeders who can promote the cultivation of species and new cultivars with higher phenolic content.  相似文献

The influence of gibberellic acid on the physical and chemical properties of sweet cherry fruits during ripening (development of fruit colour) and at fruit maturity (firmness of fruits, cracking index, water uptake, soluble solids content, total acidity, fruit dimensions) of three sweet cherry cvs. ‘Van', ‘Sunburst' and ‘Elisa' grown in a climate with frequent rainfall during fruit maturation were studied. Fruits of cv. ‘Elisa' were prematurely picked because of cracking. A significant main effect of GA3 treatment and significant main effect of cultivars were established in fruit colour development. The means of firmness and soluble solids content were systematically higher for the cherries of ‘Van' and ‘Sunburst' treated with GA3 but they were not significant at =0.05. The fruit cracking was significantly smaller for GA3-treated fruits of the cv. 'Sunburst' after 4 h in water. Gibberellic-treated fruits of both cultivars were larger in fruit weight than untreated fruits; the differences were significant at =0.10. Fruit dimensions: height, width and thickness of both cultivars were significantly affected by GA3 treatment. The response of sweet cherry fruits to GA3 spraying depended on the properties of the cultivar.  相似文献

Small berry fruits are consumed because of their attractive colour and special taste, and are considered one of the richest sources of natural antioxidants. Their consumption has been linked to the prevention of some chronic and degenerative diseases. The term ‘berry fruits’ encompasses the so‐called ‘soft fruits’, primarily strawberry, currants, gooseberry, blackberry, raspberry, blueberry and cranberry. The objective of this review is to highlight the nutraceutical value of berries and to summarize the factors affecting berry fruit antioxidants. Particular attention is given to postharvest and processing operation factors that may affect fruit phytochemical content. The structure–antioxidant relationships for phenolic compounds – the main group of antioxidants in this fruit group – are presented and major areas for future research are identified. © 2013 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

Background and Aims: Partial rootzone drying (PRD) is an irrigation system that permits better control of vegetative growth without reducing fruit yield. However, little is known about how grapevine reproductive development is regulated when irrigated under PRD. Therefore, the aim of this work was to investigate the relationship between abscisic acid (ABA) and polyamines (PAs) in leaves and berries during ripening, and how hormonal balance is affected under different irrigation regimes.
Methods and Results: The study was carried out using container-grown Superior Seedless grapevines with a split-root system and grown under controlled conditions in a greenhouse. Three irrigation treatments were imposed: control (well watered), and two forms of deficit irrigation – PRD and sustained deficit irrigation (SDI). PRD plants have higher yield and berry size than SDI vines. At the onset of veraison, PRD berries have higher ABA, free PAs and free to bound PA ratio than other treatments.
Conclusions: Although the restriction of vegetative growth in PRD might be partly a response to the volume of water applied and therefore similar to a SDI response, our results suggest that specific hormonal factors may explain the effects on reproductive growth and yield.
Significance of the Study: The study demonstrates that changes induced in berry ABA during PRD conditions could be counterbalanced by changes in PA metabolism so that berry size and yield are maintained.  相似文献

Berry size and crop yield are widely recognized as important factors that contribute to wine quality. The final berry size indirectly affects the phenolic concentration of the wine due to skin surface-to-berry volume ratio. The effects of different irrigation levels, soil management and plant crop level on growth of ‘Trincadeira’ berries were studied. In order to test the influence of different irrigation levels (rainfed, pre-veraison and post-veraison), different soil management (tillage and natural cover crops) and different plant crop levels (8 and 16 clusters per vine), leaf water potential, skin anthocyanin, polyphenols, berry skin and seed fresh weight were measured in fruits. The segregation of berries into three different berry classes: small, medium and large, allowed to identify different levels of contribution of soil management and irrigation level into berry, skin and seeds ratios. As expected, higher water availability due to irrigation and soil tillage management during berry development induced an increase in berry flesh weight and this was more evident in larger berries; however, berry skin and seed fresh weight remained unchanged. Also, anthocyanins did not show significant differences.  相似文献

Relationships between the fresh mass of seed, skin (exocarp), and flesh (mesocarp) in six different berry size categories, were assessed on ripe fruit from Cabernet Sauvignon grapevines exposed to either High (H), Control (C) or Low (L) water status during post‐veraison berry growth in a vineyard. Berries harvested from each treatment were segregated into six mass categories in order to distinguish between changes in fresh mass components associated with general variation in berry size (on well‐watered grapevines), and those associated with berry size differences due to water stress. Berry fresh mass across all treatments ranged from about 0.4 to 2.0 g. Fresh mass components for both H and C berries comprised approximately 5% seed, 15% skin, and 80% flesh, regardless of variation in berry size, although there was some increase in seed mass relative to whole‐berry fresh mass in larger berries. Berry growth (as inferred from fresh mass at harvest) was much less sensitive to water deficit than published reports for grapevine shoot growth. Midday leaf water potentials around –1.20 MPa (Control) were not sufficient to inhibit berry growth. However, midday water potentials around –1.50 MPa (Low water status) inhibited berry growth by 13–18% of that attained by grapevines grown at high water status (i.e. treatment H where midday leaf water potentials remained around –1.00 MPa). Inhibition of berry growth by water deficit was attributed almost exclusively to reduced growth of mesocarp tissues (for most berry size categories). Water deficit thus increased the proportion of whole‐berry fresh mass represented by seeds and skin (for most berry size categories). Changes in those proportions due to irrigation treatments exceeded differences associated with general (non‐stress) variation in whole‐berry fresh mass. Excluding adverse environmental impacts on whole‐berry fresh mass, our results point to a limited role for variation in berry size per se as a factor determining the solute concentration of juice or wine derived from different sized fruit. By implication, and for all categories of whole‐berry fresh mass represented here, late season water deficit can result in ripe fruit with more skin and seed tissues (relative to whole‐berry fresh mass) compared with well‐watered control fruit.  相似文献

‘Clemenules’ mandarin citrus trees, grafted on Cleopatra and Carrizo rootstocks, were subjected to three irrigation treatments: the control (100% ETc), and phases II and III treatments (non-irrigation during phases II and III, respectively). The two deficit irrigation (DI) treatments affected in different ways some fruit quality parameters and these effects were also dependent on the rootstock. Although phase II treatment increased total soluble solids (TSS) and titratable acidity (TA), it delayed the maturation process. Phase II-stressed fruits on Carrizo had more fructose and glucose but less sucrose in relation to control fruits, thus increasing the reducing sugars. Phase II-stressed fruits on Cleopatra had more glucose, fructose and sucrose, for osmotic adjustment, also increasing the reducing sugars in these fruits. Phase III-stressed fruits had greater acidity, TSS, total phenolics, lycopene, glucose and sucrose than control fruits, but the same maturation state. In conclusion, DI in phase III improved fruit quality, by increasing the values of important quality parameters related to taste, flavour and nutritional benefits, but DI in phase II produced a drastic delay in the maturation process that made fruits non-commercial.  相似文献

Sensory analysis was performed on fresh fruits, frozen non‐cooked jam and traditionally cooked jam of 14 strawberry cultivars. The purpose was to characterise and compare the sensory quality of different strawberry cultivars and different types of jam. The results of the investigation were presented by means of multivariate modelling methods such as principal component analysis (PCA) and partial least squares regression (PLS). The sensory profile of cooked jam differed from that of fresh fruits and frozen jam, explaining 75% of the total variation in the first component. Cooked jam scored high for sweet taste, stickiness, bitter taste, earthy flavour, off‐flavour and total intensity of taste. Frozen jam had many of the same sensory characteristics as fresh fruits and scored high for strawberry flavour, fruity flavour and whiteness, while fresh fruits scored highest for colour strength, hue and sour taste. As analysed by means of PLS, sensory colour and flavour variables of fresh fruits were able to predict 35% of sensory cooked jam variables. Analysing early cultivars alone, sensory fresh fruit variables were able to predict 69% of sensory cooked jam variables. © 2000 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

ABSTRACT:  The effects of CO2 in the storage atmosphere on color, firmness, ascorbic acid (AA), anthocyanins, flavonoids, phenolics, total antioxidant activity, and antiproliferative activity of strawberry fruit have been investigated. "Northeaster" and "Earliglow" strawberries were stored in air or in 20% CO2 (in air) at 3 °C for 20 d. Color changes in Northeaster were delayed more by CO2 treatment than in Earliglow. Firmness of CO2-stored fruit increased slightly compared with those stored in air. The increases in total and reduced AA concentrations during air storage were usually prevented by CO2 storage in both cultivars. Dehydroascorbic acid (DHA) concentrations increased during CO2 storage. Anthocyanins and flavonoids, and total antioxidant activity of both cultivars were higher in air-stored fruit than in CO2-stored fruit. The total phenolic concentration was lower in CO2-stored Earliglow fruit than in air, but storage treatment did not affect that of Northeaster. A 40 mg/mL concentration of Northeaster strawberry extract inhibited about 80% of HepG2 human liver cancer cell proliferation. CO2 treatment did not affect the antiproliferative activity of strawberry fruits, but antiproliferative activity was greater at harvest than after storage.  相似文献

Individual sugars, organic acids, anthocyanins and vitamin C were quantified in strawberry fruits of four newly-bred cultivars grown at two production sites in Switzerland with different soil, climatic conditions and altitudes (1060 and 480 m above sea level). All the measured compounds were significantly influenced by genotype. Pelargonidin-3-glucoside was the main anthocyanin present in all cultivars, while the presence of other pelargonidin derivatives was genotype-dependent. Differences of about 2-fold were observed among the studied cultivars for their vitamin C content. In the mountain region, where plants produced a higher fruit yield over a shorter period, the concentration of both health and taste-related compounds was detrimentally affected. In particular, the vitamin C content in the fruits was negatively related to the average yield per day. However, the compositional variations of strawberry fruits in response to different production sites were genotype specific. Within the four cultivars studied, cv. Antea was most affected by the production site, showing generally lower contents of all analysed compounds when cultivated at higher altitudes, whereas cv. Clery seemed to have the more consistent chemical composition, regardless of production site. The results presented in this work corroborate the dominant role of strawberry genotype over environmental factors.  相似文献

Given their perennial nature, grapevines can respond to deficit irrigation during both the current season as well as during the following season, even though full irrigation may have been restored during that second season. To define the cropping responses involved, three post-veraison irrigation treatments were imposed on spur, mechanically and minimally pruned Shiraz vines that were already receiving restricted water application using Partial Rootzone Drying (PRD). The treatments resulted in the vines receiving 1.25 ML per hectare pre veraison and the three irrigation treatments receiving 1.25, 0.65 and 0 ML of water per hectare in the post-veraison period. Water deficit during the current season reduced berry and bunch weight, and yield. Sugar concentration was reduced, and phenolic concentration increased when less water was applied, but anthocyanin concentration was unaffected. Although irrigation was returned to standard practice (PRD) in the following season, yield was reduced in accordance with deficit irrigation treatments the previous season. This reduction in yield was primarily caused by fewer bunches per vine, which in turn was a direct consequence of fewer shoots per vine (lower budburst). The lower crop load on the vines that had received restricted irrigation post-veraison in the previous season resulted in higher sugar and antho-cyanin concentrations in fruit the following season. Lighter pruning resulted in a greater number of smaller bunches comprising smaller berries. In both seasons the minimal pruning treatment delayed fruit maturity as measured by sugar accumulation. Post-veraison water deficit thus has the potential to impact on both yield and fruit composition during the current season as well as during the subsequent season.  相似文献

为评价鲜食葡萄在高寒荒漠区延后栽培条件下的品质表现,以适应性较好的8个品种为研究对象,测定葡萄感官品质、内在品质、功效成分和糖酸品质,采用主成分分析法对果实品质进行综合分析和评价。结果表明,‘红地球’和‘紫地球’单果质量10 g以上,果粒大,能够保持原有的大果特征;无核品种较有核品种果粒小;8个品种果实果形指数均> 1,呈长椭圆形,除绿色品种外,果实着色较深;果皮颜色越深的品种,果皮花青素、类黄酮、总酚含量越高。2个无核品种(‘红宝石无核’和‘紫甜无核’)和‘红地球’可溶性固形物含量较高,在21%以上;糖酸组分及含量方面,果实中的糖分主要是果糖和葡萄糖,蔗糖未检出;酒石酸和苹果酸是主要有机酸,柠檬酸和草酸含量极微。酸甜风味方面,‘红宝石无核’口感最甜,其次为‘红地球’,‘瑞都香玉’和‘紫地球’口感较淡,‘摩尔多瓦’口感偏酸。通过主成分分析法提取了5个独立的主成分,累计贡献率87. 396%,以主成分为评价指标,对浆果品质进行综合评价,‘红宝石无核’、‘红地球’和‘玫瑰香’果实综合品质最好。  相似文献

The effects of vineyard site, season, clone and viticultural management practices were examined as possible sources of variability in seed development between populations of grape berries, cvs Traminer, Riesling and Pinot Noir. Mean values for number and weight of seeds per berry were similar in most seasons and sites, but some were significantly different. In some but not all cases, smaller means for seed number per berry were associated with larger mean weight per seed. Trellising, training, pruning level, canopy manipulation and regulation of bunch number per vine had little effect on seed complement per berry except that mean weight per seed was smaller with minimal pruning. Reduction in water supply imposed after flowering did not alter seed number but reduced seed weight. Berries of boron-deficient vines had fewer and smaller seeds. The implications of seed development for berry development are discussed.  相似文献

Our objective was to investigate whether grape berry growth and colour development is associated with variation in abscisic acid (ABA) levels during ripening under an irrigation regime of partial rootzone drying (PRD). The study was carried out using container‐grown Tempranillo grapevines (established as fruit‐bearing cuttings) with a split root system (occupying two contiguous pots) and grown under controlled conditions. Three irrigation treatments were imposed – a control (well watered), and two forms of deficit irrigation, viz. partial rootzone drying (PRD), and sustained deficit irrigation (SDI). Under SDI, a given volume of irrigation water was applied uniformly and simultaneously to both sides of the split roots of each vine. Under the PRD regime, the same total volume of irrigation was applied, but as separate allocations to each side of the split root system in turn, and alternating on a 10‐day cycle. Because both deficit treatments received the same total amount of irrigation water (about 50% of the volume applied to controls), we were able to distinguish between the effects of deficit irrigation per se, versus any specific impact PRD might be having on vine performance. Outcomes were as follows. Compared to well‐watered control vines, yield per plant, and weight per bunch were both reduced significantly under SDI, but were sustained close to control values under the PRD regime. SDI and PRD thus differed significantly in their respective impacts on vine performance, and comparing just these two forms of deficit irrigation, PRD resulted in greater yield, higher bunch weight, bigger leaf area and increased berry weight compared with the SDI treatment. Moreover, PRD also induced greater accumulation of skin anthocyanins at harvest, compared to SDI. Berry ABA concentration increased continuously throughout veraison, achieving a maximum at the end of this period. The increase of berry ABA concentration was earlier and faster in PRD than in SDI, which exhibited only a slight increase in berry ABA by the end of veraison. These distinctive responses to PRD compared to SDI imply that the alternating wet‐dry cycles of PRD, rather than simply a deficit irrigation, as in SDI, had a distinctive effect on growth, ripening and berry composition. Our data imply that these different responses might be related to ABA physiology, and especially to ABA levels in berries during ripening.  相似文献

Soluble solids, seed tannin, skin tannin, and skin anthocyanin were measured in fruit from Cabernet Sauvignon vines that had experienced either High, Control or Low water status during ripening. Berries from each treatment were segregated into 6 size categories at harvest in order to test independently for relationships due to size compared with those due to water deficits. Berry content of all solutes increased approximately in proportion to the increase in berry size. Deviations from proportionality caused Brix and anthocyanin concentration (mg per unit berry fresh mass) to decrease, and the concentration of skin tannin to remain unchanged or decrease slightly with increasing berry size. The concentration of seed tannin did not decrease and appeared to increase with berry size in multiple-seeded berries. In comparison with skin tannin or anthocyanin content, seed tannin content varied more with berry size and less with vine water status. In addition to decreasing berry size, water deficits increased the amount of skin tannin and anthocyanin per berry and the concentrations of skin tannin and anthocyanins, but did not significantly affect the content or concentration of seed tannin. The results show that there are effects of vine water status on fruit composition that arise independently of the resultant differences in fruit size. The effect of vine water status on the concentration of skin tannin and anthocyanin was greater than the effect of fruit size on those same variables. However, the increases in skin tannin and anthocyanin that accompanied water deficits appear to result more from differential growth sensitivity of inner mesocarp and exocarp than direct effects on phenolic biosynthesis.  相似文献
