ABSTRACT

The study of modules over a finite von Neumann algebra 𝒜 can be advanced by the use of torsion theories. In this work, some torsion theories for 𝒜 are presented, compared, and studied. In particular, we prove that the torsion theory (T, P) (in which a module is torsion if it is zero-dimensional) is equal to both Lambek and Goldie torsion theories for 𝒜.

Using torsion theories, we describe the injective envelope of a finitely generated projective 𝒜-module and the inverse of the isomorphism K 0(𝒜) → K 0 (𝒰), where 𝒰 is the algebra of affiliated operators of 𝒜. Then the formula for computing the capacity of a finitely generated module is obtained. Lastly, we study the behavior of the torsion and torsion-free classes when passing from a subalgebra ? of a finite von Neumann algebra 𝒜 to 𝒜. With these results, we prove that the capacity is invariant under the induction of a ?-module.  相似文献

Let X be a locally convex Hausdorff space and let C0(S,X) be the space of all continuous functions f:SX, with compact support on the locally compact space S. In this paper we prove a Riesz representation theorem for a class of bounded operators T:C0(S,X)→X, where the representing integrals are X-valued Pettis integrals with respect to bounded signed measures on S. Under the additional assumption that X is a locally convex space, having the convex compactness property, or either, X is a locally convex space whose dual X is a barrelled space for an appropriate topology, we obtain a complete identification between all X-valued Pettis integrals on S and the bounded operators T:C0(S,X)→X they represent. Finally we give two illustrations of the representation theorem proved, in the particular case when X is the topological dual of a locally convex space.  相似文献

Various embedding problems of lattices into complete lattices are solved. We prove that for any join-semilattice S with the minimal join-cover refinement property, the ideal lattice Id S of S is both algebraic and dually algebraic. Furthermore, if there are no infinite D-sequences in J(S), then Id S can be embedded into a direct product of finite lower bounded lattices. We also find a system of infinitary identities that characterize sublattices of complete, lower continuous, and join-semidistributive lattices. These conditions are satisfied by any (not necessarily finitely generated) lower bounded lattice and by any locally finite, join-semidistributive lattice. Furthermore, they imply M. Erné’s dual staircase distributivity. On the other hand, we prove that the subspace lattice of any infinite-dimensional vector space cannot be embedded into any ℵ0-complete, ℵ0-upper continuous, and ℵ0-lower continuous lattice. A similar result holds for the lattice of all order-convex subsets of any infinite chain.Dedicated to the memory of Ivan RivalReceived April 4, 2003; accepted in final form June 16, 2004.This revised version was published online in August 2005 with a corrected cover date.  相似文献

In this article, we introduce the concept of a family of set-valued mappings generalized Knaster–Kuratowski–Mazurkiewicz (KKM) w.r.t. other family of set-valued mappings. We then prove that if X is a nonempty compact convex subset of a locally convex Hausdorff topological vector space and 𝒯 and 𝒮 are two families of self set-valued mappings of X such that 𝒮 is generalized KKM w.r.t. 𝒯, under some natural conditions, the set-valued mappings S ∈ 𝒮 have a fixed point. Other common fixed point theorems and minimax inequalities of Ky Fan type are obtained as applications.  相似文献

A real algebraic curve of algebraic genus g ≥ 2 is a pair (S, τ), where S is a closed Riemann surface of genus g and τ is a reflection on S (anticonformal involution with fixed points). In this note, we discuss a numerical (Burnside) program which permits to obtain a Riemann period matrix of the surface S in terms of an uniformizing real Schottky group. If we denote by Aut+(S, τ) the group of conformal automorphisms of S commuting with the real structure τ, then it is a well known fact that |Aut+(S,τ)| ≥ 12(g−1). We say that (S,τ) is maximally symmetric if |Aut+(S,τ)|=12(g−1). We work explicitly such a numerical program in the case of maximally symmetric real curves of genus two. We construct a real Schottky uniformization for each such real curve and we use the numerical program to obtain a real algebraic curve, a Riemann period matrix and the accessory parameters in terms of the corresponding Schottky uniformization. In particular, we are able to give for Bolza’s curve a Schottky uniformization (at least numerically), providing an example for which the inverse uniformization theorem is numerically solved.Partially supported by Projects Fondecyt 1030252 1030373 and UTFSM 12.03.21  相似文献

We give a direct formulation of the invariant polynomials μGq(n)(, Δi,;, xi,i + 1,) characterizing U(n) tensor operators p, q, …, q, 0, …, 0 in terms of the symmetric functions Sλ known as Schur functions. To this end, we show after the change of variables Δi = γi − δi and xi, i + 1 = δi − δi + 1 thatμGq(n)(,Δi;, xi, i + 1,) becomes an integral linear combination of products of Schur functions Sα(, γi,) · Sβ(, δi,) in the variables {γ1,…, γn} and {δ1,…, δn}, respectively. That is, we give a direct proof that μGq(n)(,Δi,;, xi, i + 1,) is a bisymmetric polynomial with integer coefficients in the variables {γ1,…, γn} and {δ1,…, δn}. By making further use of basic properties of Schur functions such as the Littlewood-Richardson rule, we prove several remarkable new symmetries for the yet more general bisymmetric polynomials μmGq(n)1,…, γn; δ1,…, δm). These new symmetries enable us to give an explicit formula for both μmG1(n)(γ; δ) and 1G2(n)(γ; δ). In addition, we describe both algebraic and numerical integration methods for deriving general polynomial formulas for μmGq(n)(γ; δ).  相似文献

Let 𝒳 be an irreducible algebraic curve defined over a finite field 𝔽q of characteristic p>2. Assume that the 𝔽q-automorphism group of 𝒳 admits a subgroup isomorphic to the direct product of two cyclic groups Cm and Cn of orders m and n prime to p, such that both quotient curves 𝒳Cn and 𝒳Cm are rational. In this paper, we provide a complete classification of such curves as well as a characterization of their full automorphism groups.  相似文献

In 2003, N. De Grande-De Kimpe, J. Kąkol and C. Perez-Garcia using t-frames and some machinery concerning tensor products proved that compactoid sets in non-archimedean (LM)-spaces (i.e. the inductive limits of a sequence of non-archimedean metrizable locally convex spaces) are metrizable. In this paper we show a similar result for a large class of non-archimedean locally convex space with a £-base, i.e. a decreasing base (Uα)αNN of neighbourhoods of zero. This extends the first mentioned result since every non-archimedean (LM)-space has a £-base. We also prove that compactoid sets in non-archimedean (DF)-spaces are metrizable.  相似文献

The subspaces Gα, Gβ, and Gβα (α, β ≥ 0)of Schwartz′ space S+ in (0, + ∞) are associated with the Hankel transform in the same way as the Gel′fand-Shilov spaces Sα, Sβ, and Sβα are associated with the Fourier transform. Indeed, if we consider the Hankel transform Hγ (γ < −1) defined by γ(ƒ)(t) = ∫0 (xt)−γ/2xγJγ([formula]) ƒ(x) dx then γ is an isomorphism from Gα, Gβ, and Gβα onto Gα, Gβ, and Gαβ respectively. So. the spaces Gαα are invariant for γ. In this paper, we characterize the spaces Gαα (α > 1) in terms of their Fourier-Laguerre coefficients. Also, we characterize the range of the Fourier-Laplace operator D defined by D(ƒ)(w) = ∫0 ƒ(t) e−(1/2)((1 + w)/(1 − w))t for w D = {w : |w| ≤ 1} when it acts on the space Gαα.  相似文献

Let be compact with #S=∞ and let C(S) be the set of all real continuous functions on S. We ask for an algebraic polynomial sequence (Pn)n=0 with deg Pn=n such that every fC(S) has a unique representation f=∑i=0 αiPi and call such a basis Faber basis. In the special case of , 0<q<1, we prove the existence of such a basis. A special orthonormal Faber basis is given by the so-called little q-Legendre polynomials. Moreover, these polynomials state an example with A(Sq)≠U(Sq)=C(Sq), where A(Sq) is the so-called Wiener algebra and U(Sq) is the set of all fC(Sq) which are uniquely represented by its Fourier series.  相似文献

Starting from the exponential Euler polynomials discussed by Euler in “Institutions Calculi Differentialis,” Vol. II, 1755, the author introduced in “Linear operators and approximation,” Vol. 20, 1972, the so-called exponential Euler splines. Here we describe a new approach to these splines. Let t be a constant such that t=|t|eiα, −π<α<π,t≠0,t≠1.. Let S1(x:t) be the cardinal linear spline such that S1(v:t) = tv for all v ε Z. Starting from S1(x:t) it is shown that we obtain all higher degree exponential Euler splines recursively by the averaging operation . Here Sn(x:t) is a cardinal spline of degree n if n is odd, while is a cardinal spline if n is even. It is shown that they have the properties Sn(v:t) = tv for v ε Z.  相似文献

Recently, Dorfer and Winterhof introduced and analyzed a lattice test for sequences of length n over a finite field. We determine the number of sequences η of length n with given largest dimension Sn(η)=S for passing this test. From this result we derive an exact formula for the expected value of Sn(η). For the binary case we characterize the (infinite) sequences η with maximal possible Sn(η) for all n.  相似文献

Let A be a connected-graded algebra with trivial module 𝕜, and let B be a graded Ore extension of A. We relate the structure of the Yoneda algebra E(A): = Ext A (𝕜, 𝕜) to E(B). Cassidy and Shelton have shown that when A satisfies their 𝒦2 property, B will also be 𝒦2. We prove the converse of this result.  相似文献

Let S be a connected Dedekind scheme and X an S-scheme provided with a section x. We prove that the morphism between fundamental group schemes π 1(X, x) ab π 1(Alb X/S , 0AlbX/S{0_{{\rm{Al}}{{\rm{b}}_{X/S}}}}) induced by the canonical morphism from X to its Albanese scheme Alb X/S (when the latter exists) fits in an exact sequence of group schemes 0 → (NS X/S τ )π 1(X, x) ab π 1(Alb X/S , 0AlbX/S{0_{{\rm{Al}}{{\rm{b}}_{X/S}}}}) → 0, where the kernel is a finite and flat S-group scheme. Furthermore, we prove that any finite and commutative quotient pointed torsor over the generic fiber X η of X can be extended to a finite and commutative pointed torsor over X.  相似文献

This paper is motivated by a link between algebraic proof complexity and the representation theory of the finite symmetric groups. Our perspective leads to a new avenue of investigation in the representation theory of Sn. Most of our technical results concern the structure of “uniformly” generated submodules of permutation modules. For example, we consider sequences of submodules of the permutation modules M(nk,1k) and prove that if the sequence Wn is given in a uniform (in n) way – which we make precise – the dimension p(n) of Wn (as a vector space) is a single polynomial with rational coefficients, for all but finitely many “singular” values of n. Furthermore, we show that dim(Wn)<p(n) for each singular value of n≥4k. The results have a non-traditional flavor arising from the study of the irreducible structure of the submodules Wn beyond isomorphism types. We sketch the link between our structure theorems and proof complexity questions, which are motivated by the famous NP vs. co-NP problem in complexity theory. In particular, we focus on the complexity of showing membership in polynomial ideals, in various proof systems, for example, based on Hilbert's Nullstellensatz.  相似文献

Let X be a smooth contractible three-dimensional affine algebraic variety with a free algebraic C+-action on it such that S=X//C+ is smooth. We prove that X is isomorphic to S×C and the action is induced by a translation on the second factor. As a consequence we show that any free algebraic C+-action on C3 is a translation in a suitable coordinate system.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Let X = Spec(R) be a reduced equidimensional algebraic variety over an algebraically closed field k. Let Y = Spec(R/𝔮) be a codimension one ordinary multiple subvariety, where 𝔮 is a prime ideal of height 1 of R. If U is a nonempty open subset of Y and 𝔪 a closed point of U, we denote by A ? R 𝔪 its local ring in X, by 𝔭 the extension of 𝔮 in A, and by K the algebraic closure of the residue field k(𝔭).

Then there exists a bijection γ𝔪:Proj(G 𝔭(A) ?  A/𝔭 k) → Proj(G(A 𝔭) ?  k(𝔭)K) such that for every subset Σ of Proj(G 𝔭(A) ?  A/𝔭 k), the Hilbert function of Σ coincides with the Hilbert function of γ𝔪(Σ). We examine some applications. We study the structure of the tangent cone at a closed point of a codimension one ordinary multiple subvariety.  相似文献

In this paper we study actions of locally compact quantum groups on von Neumann algebras and prove that every action has a canonical unitary implementation, paralleling Haagerup's classical result on the unitary implementation of a locally compact group action. This result is an important tool in the study of quantum groups in action. We will use it in this paper to study subfactors and inclusions of von Neumann algebras. When α is an action of the locally compact quantum group (MΔ) on the von Neumann algebra N we can give necessary and sufficient conditions under which the inclusion NαNMαN is a basic construction. Here Nα denotes the fixed point algebra and MαN is the crossed product. When α is an outer and integrable action on a factor N we prove that the inclusion NαN is irreducible, of depth 2 and regular, giving a converse to the results of M. Enock and R. Nest (1996, J. Funct. Anal.137, 466–543; 1998, J. Funct. Anal.154, 67–109). Finally we prove the equivalence of minimal and outer actions and we generalize the main theorem of Yamanouchi (1999, Math. Scand.84, 297–319): every integrable outer action with infinite fixed point algebra is a dual action.  相似文献
