Message du president.

This article, from the President of the Canadian Psychological Association, discusses the history of the journals from the Canadian Psychological Assocation. The Canadian Journal of Behavioural Science is the fourth venture in journal publication of the Canadian Psychological Association. The first was the Bulletin, a modest little quarterly which from 1940 to 1946 served the association as an embryonic scientific journal and newsletter. By 1946 the number of reports of scholarly and scientific works which it received indicated clearly that a proper scientific journal was required. Hence, in 1947 the association undertook its second, but first major journal publishing venture, the Canadian Journal of Psychology. This replaced the Bulletin. In 1950, the association established another journal to serve as a house organ and named it the Canadian Psychologist. In 1967, the association decided that if funds could be found, a journal devoted to theory, research, and application in the areas of psychology concerned with social problems would be established and called the Canadian Journal of Behavioural Science. Consequently, the editorial office of the Canadian Psychologist wishes to state its editorial policy in order that all writers be informed as to the objectives of the journal. The Canadian Psychologist will continue to publish the official affairs and proceedings of the Canadian Psychological Association, as well as notes and comments on psychological matters. In addition it will accept evaluative reviews, expressions of opinions and articles related to historical or theoretical questions. Editorial.

With this volume, the 47-year old Canadian Journal of Psychology takes a new name and makes a renewed commitment. In retitling the journal the Canadian Journal of Experimental Psychology, the intention is to reflect more clearly what has always been the major goal of the journal--to publish the best new research in experimental psychology, both Canadian and international, in both French and English. I am honoured to become the tenth editor of the major journal for experimental psychology in Canada. CJP has served the field very well; my primary goal is to ensure that CJEP continues to do so. Park Olof Davidson: 1937-1980.

The distinguished career of Park Davidson came to a tragic end when he and his wife, Sheena, were killed in an automobile accident on December 21, 1980. The impact of this shattering event is not yet fully comprehended by the community of psychologists in Canada, but we know how sorely his friendship, inspiration, and guidance will be missed. Park had served as Editor of the Canadian Journal of Behavioural Science since 1974. Park enjoyed many other distinctions as a professional psychologist, academician, and research scientist. He served a distinguished term as President of the Canadian Psychological Association. Still a young man, he had already been President of the Psychological Association of Alberta and Chairman of the Advisory Council of Provincial Associations of Psychology, in addition to providing wise counsel for many other professional organizations, government agencies, community organizations, and universities. As well as being editor of several of these volumes, Park was a vigorous research scientist whose interests and publications ranged through stress management, pain, alcoholism, parent-infant interaction, and programme evaluation. Review of Readings in General Psychology: Canadian Contributions.

Reviews the book, Readings in General Psychology: Canadian Contributions by A. W. Pressey and J. P. Zubek (1970). A collection of seventy articles, sixty-eight of which are written by Canadian psychologists and other psychologists resident at some point in Canada, comprise the content of this set of readings. Two other contributions are by distinguished Canadian physicians. The organization of the book is in fourteen parts following the traditional divisions of an introductory text in psychology. The articles are from a variety of places but predominantly from the Canadian Journal of Psychology. Others are from such prestigious sources as Science and Nature. Farewell from the editor.

As I put the final touches on the contents of the Canadian Journal of Behavioural Science for October 1993 (No. 4 of Volume 25), it has come to my attention that this is the last issue that will be published under my Editorship. I want to take this opportunity to express my appreciation to numerous people who have made important contributions to the quality of the Journal, and specifically to Volumes 22, 23, 24 and 25 which were published under my Editorship. Industrial-organizational psychology research in the Canadian Forces.

Introduces this special issue of the Canadian Journal of Behavioural Science, which focuses on industrial-organizational psychology research in the Canadian Forces (CF). The empirical papers included in the Special Issue represent a limited cross-section of Industrial-Organizational research from the Canadian Forces Human Resources and Evaluation Branch, and include collaborations with various academicians across the country. These studies do not begin to capture the vast array of issues/topics routinely under empirical investigation by the CF.
