Sixty Cases of Dizziness Due to Blood Stasis in the Collaterals of Brain Treated by Acupuncture with the Manipulation Method of Reinforcement and Reduction

All the cases enrolled in this series were from the outpatients between 2000 and 2001. Of the 60 cases in the treatment group, 37 cases were male and 23 cases female. Of the 30 cases in the control group, 19 cases were male and 11 cases female. All the cases ranged in age between 60 and 70 years with duration of disease of 1-2 years in 57 cases and 2-3 years in 23 cases. There were no significant differences in age, sex, and duration of disease between the two groups.     

302 CASES OF ENURESIS TREATED WITH ACUPUNCTURE

Enuresis is mostly seen in children.Theauthors adopted acupuncture for the treat-ment in 302 cases over the past 8 years withgood results as reported in the following.General DataIn this series of 302 cases,there were192 males and 110 females;the age was 3-10years in 168 cases,11-15 years in 124 cases,and over 15 years in 10 cases,the youngestbeing 4 years arid the oldest 23 years.The du-ration of disease had been under 10 years in199 cases and over 10 years in 103 cases.     

Treatment of Prolapse of Rectum with Acupuncture Combined with TCM Drugs in 38 Cases

Prolapse of rectum is usually seen in children and seniorcitizens.By means of acupuncture combined with TCM drugs,the authors have treated 38 cases of the disorder,and achievedgood therapeutic effects.This is reported as follows.Clinical DataOf the 38 cases in this series,20 cases were male and 18female,ranging from 6 to 70 years in age.Of them,12 casesaged 6-10 years,22 cases 50-70 years,and only 4 cases 10-50years.

Forty Cases of Insomnia Treated by Multi-output Electric Pulsation and Auricular Plaster Therapy

The writer has treated 40 cases of insomnia by the method of multi-output electric pulsation in combination with auricular plaster therapy (with a seed of Vaccariae segetalis 王不留行 taped tightly to a particular ear point and pressed) and received satisfactory therapeutic effects. A report follows. General Data Forty cases were enrolled from outpatients in the Department of Acupuncture and Moxibustion, with cases of mental disorders or cerebral organic disorders excluded. Of them, 16 cases were males and 24 females; 20 cases aged from 18-35 years, 12 from 36-50 years, and 8 over 51 years. The duration of sickness was from 2 weeks to 30 years. 65% of cases had to take tranquilizers for sleep.

TWENTY-THREE YEAR''S RESEARCH ON PREVENTION OF CERVICAL CANTCER

Preventive mass screening was conducted every l-2 years in 42 textile factories from 1958- 80 in Shanghai. A total of 846,104 examinations was made, and the percentage of women ex- amined was 70-90%. In 23 years the age- standardized prevalence rate was lowered by 97.6%. 520 cases of cervical cancer were fonnd, among them 465 patients are still alive. The 10-year survival rate (life-table method) was 93.1%, and the 20-year, 86.1%. There were rio stage IV, III and II cases in recent 18, 8 and 7 years, respectively. In the past 8 years, all 45 cases except one were of subclinical type. The average incidence rate of cervical cancer ranked 5th among all malignant cases at these factories, whereas the mortality rate came down to the last. The prevalence rate of cervical cancer in the ≥40 year old group was over 3 times higher than in the <40 year old group. During the 23 years the median age of cervical cancer patients was postponed by 8.7 years. The disease has not been discovered in <40 year old women in the last 3 years. Carcinoma in-situ was not detected in the <40 year old group in the last 8 years. The prevalence rate of cervical atypical hyperplasia in the ≥40. year old group was 7.5 times higher than in the group. of <48 years. Therefore women ≥40 years, old are the high risk group in our series.     

ACUPUNCTURE OF GUANYUAN(REN 4)AND BAIHUI(DU 20)IN THE TREATMENT OF 500 CASES OF ENURESIS

Since the 1950s,500 cases of enuresis havebeen treated in our hospital by needling PointsGuanyuan(Ren 4)and Baihui(Du 20)with goodtherapeutic results,as reported in the following.CLINICAL DATAOf the 500 cases,221 were male and 279female;214 were under 7 years of age,183 cases8-13 years and 103 cases over 14.The durationof disease was over 5 years in 241 cases and over10 years in 259 cases.THERAPEUTIC METHODS     

Twenty-five Cases of Obstinate Hiccup Treated by Point Injection at Tianding

From 1997 to 2000,the author treated 25 cases ofobstinate hiccup by injecting chlorpromazine and654-2 injection at Tianding(LI 17),withsatisfactory therapeutic results as reported in thefollowing.General DataOf the 25 cases in this series,18 cases were male,and 7 female,ranging in age from 17 to 65 years.The course of disease was 3 to 7 days in average.     

Treatment of Phlegm-and Heat-induced Insomnia by Acupuncture in 120 Cases

Clinical DataThe 120 cases in this series were outpatients sufferingfrom insomnia due to interior-stirring by phlegm-heat,ranging in age from 28 to 67 years.They wererandomly divided into a treatment group and acontrol group.In the treatment group,34 cases weremale and 26 female,aged 43.2 years on the average.In the control group,28 cases were male and 32female,aged 38.5 years on the average.     

ACUPUNCTURE TREATMENT OF PHANTOM LIMB PAIN -A Report of 9 Cases

When working at K(?)tzting Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine near Munich, Germany from March 1991 to May 1993, the author had treated 9 cases of phantom limb pain by means of acupuncture with satisfactory therapeutic effect as reported in the following. Clinical Data In this series, all the 9 cases were male, aged 60-79 years, with the course of disease ranging from 3-49 years. Five cases were amputated because of wound in war, 1 case embolism of femoral artery, 1 case tumor in the knee joint, 1 case comminuted fracture     

CT-guided stereotactic evacuation of hypertensive intracerebral hematoma.

From January 1986 to June 1989, the CT-guided stereotactic evacuation was performed in 38 cases of hypertensive intracerebral hematoma with satisfactory result. 24 patients were male and 14 female. The age ranged from 37 to 78 years, with an average of 55. 24 cases had their hematoma in internal capsule, 7 in cerebellum, 5 in subcortex, and 2 in brain stem. The interval between the occurrence of hemorrhage and evacuation of hematoma was 24 hours or less in 18 cases, 2-3 days in 14 and 4-7 days in 6. The volume of hematoma was estimated by CT scanning being more than 100 ml in 6 cases whereas much less in 2 cases of the brain stem.

     

The clinic follow-up on chemotherapy and radiotherapy of children intracranial germinoma

Objective To study the clinical effects of chemotherapy and radiotherapy of children intracranial germinoma. Methods From December 1993 to December 2001, we counducted chemotherapy and radiotherapy to 63 children with intracranial germinomas. 34 patients have been followed up. Out of them, 20 cases have tumors in the pineal region, 6 cases have tumors in the pineal and suprasellar regions, 4 cases have tumors in the suprasellar region, 3 cases have tumors in the pineal and cerebral ventricle, 1 case has tumor in the hasal ganglia. The drugs we used are VCR, MTX, Bleomytin and Cisplatin (DDP). Four days are considered as one course of treatment. A repeat course was taken after 4 weeks. CT and/or MRI were repeated 1 month after the second course. Local radiotherapy was taken with low or middle dosage (25-35 Gy) 1-2 months after chemotherapy. Results 34 children have been followed up from 1 to 7 years. One child died within 4 years after chemotherapy. The other child has tumor relapsing 5 years after chemo     

23 CASES OF CHRONIC NONSPECIFIC ULCERATIVE COLITIS TREATED BY ACUPUNCTURE AND MOXIBUSTION

In recent years, the author has treated 23 in-patients and out-patients with chronic nonspecific ulcerative colitis and achieved good therapeutic results as reported in the following. Clinical Data In this series, there were 23 cases, 9 males and 14 females, ranging in age from 29 to 68 years, averaging 33.8 years. The duration of disease was 2 to 23 years, with a mean of 11.5 years. All the patients had symptoms and signs of the disease in varying degrees before     

Apoxesis of primary tracheal tumor. A clinical analysis of 23 cases.

During a 17-year period, 23 patients with primary tracheal tumors underwent surgical treatment in the Department of Thoracic Surgery, PUMC Hospital (11 cases of benign tumor of the trachea, 12 cases of low malignancies). Fourteen times of apoxesis were performed in 11 patients with benign tumors who were followed up for an average of 6.3 years. Fifteen operations were performed in 12 cases including local resection of the tracheal wall and tumor in 4, and curettage of tumor plus electric cauterization on the basis in 10. Eight of 9 patients with adenoid cystic carcinoma received postoperative adjuvant irradiation, with a 5-year postoperative survival rate of 75% (6/8) and 3 cases survived over ten years. The desirability of apoxesis and local resection of tracheal tumor is discussed. The authors suggest that these two surgical patterns can be regarded as a simple and effective treatment for patients with primary tracheal tumors.

Characteristics and treatment of meningiomas in children-reports of 12 cases and literature review

Objective To study the characteristics and treatments of meningiomas in children. Methods 12 cases of meningiomas in children treated in Qilu hospital were analyzed retrospectively and the literature was reviewed. Resuits In this series of 12 cases, the ratio of boys and girls was 2 ： 1, the age ranged from 1.5 to 15 years （mean 11. 5 years）. Increased intracranial pressure was the most common symptoms and signs. The tumors were located in the convexity in 5, ventricles in 2, parasagittal, parafalcine and intraparenchymal regions in 1 respectively.
