A tunable multiwavelength fiber laser based on double Sagnac loops is proposed and demonstrated. Comb filter characteristics of single and double Sagnac loops are analyzed by Jones matrix. Simulated results show that there are better tunability and controllability with double loops than with a single loop, and this also has been confirmed by experimental results. By adjusting the polarization controller and the length of the polarization maintaining fiber the wavelength range, wavelength spacing, and laser linewidth can be tuned. Experimental results indicate that the linewidth of the multiwavelength fiber laser was 0.0187 nm and the optical sidemode suppression ratio was 50 dB.  相似文献

A novel sensor capable of simultaneously measuring temperature and humidity has been fabricated and demonstrated using optical fiber waveguides. The sensor head is composed of a fiber Bragg grating and a low-finesse Fabry-Perot interferometric cavity. The Fabry-Perot cavity was fabricated using the electrostatic self-assembled monolayer process for the molecular-level deposition of materials of different thicknesses that form a humidity-sensitive coating on the end of the fiber, while the in-line Bragg grating fiber element is used to monitor temperature. Experimental results for a humidity range from 11% to 97% RH and for a temperature range from 10/spl deg/C to 85/spl deg/C are shown.  相似文献

A highly sensitive strain sensor is demonstrated by introducing a photonic crystal fiber (PCF) Mach-Zehnder interferometer (MZI) in a cavity ringdown fiber loop as a sensing element. The MZI is fabricated by splicing a short length of PCF between two single-mode fibers with collapsed air holes over a short region at two splicing points, which allows coupling between core and cladding modes inside the PCF. By measuring the decay constants of the fiber ringdown loop under different applied strains, a high strain sensitivity of ~0.21 μs?1/εm and a minimum detectable strain of ~3.6 με are obtained. As a benefit from the ultralow thermal dependence of PCF, the maximum temperature-induced measurement error could be reduced to ~0.24 με.  相似文献

A new optical scheme of the recirculation fiber loop interferometer with a Faraday reflector and a broadband radiation source is suggested. It is experimentally established that this scheme provides for a more than tenfold decrease in the instrument zero response caused by a spurious polarization modulation in the phase modulator. Factors leading to additional shifts in the instrument zero response are revealed.  相似文献

提出一种非对称窄带光纤环形反射镜结构的可调谐掺铒光纤激光器。980nm泵浦光对掺铒有源光纤进行抽运,高双折射光纤、偏振控制器(PC)和光纤耦合器构成窄带光纤反射镜,窄带光纤反射镜和普通光纤反射镜组成激光谐振腔,利用窄带光纤反射镜工作带宽纳米量级的特性得到单纵模激光。调整偏振控制器改变反射镜对不同波长的反射率,实现可变波长的激光输出。实验表明,该激光器的工作带宽为8nm,120mW泵浦光条件下最大输出功率为4mW,3dB带宽(脉冲的半高宽度)小于0.2nm,边模抑制比为20dB以上,在1527nm~1535nm的波长范围内观察到稳定激光输出。  相似文献

结合光纤饱和吸收体与光纤光栅法布里-珀罗标准具,研制出了全光纤结构1550nm单频窄线宽掺铒光纤环形激光器.采用两个976nm激光二极管双向抽运作为抽运源,高掺杂浓度铒光纤作为增益介质,以行波腔消除空间烧孔效应,利用光纤光栅法布里-珀罗标准具窄带选模特性,以10m长低掺铒光纤饱和吸收体稳频,得到了十分稳定的窄线宽激光输出.激光器抽运阈值功率21mW,在抽运光功率为145mW时输出光功率39mW,斜率效率30%,信噪比大于50dB.采用延迟自外差方法精确测量光纤激光器线宽小于10kHz.  相似文献

A novel variable optical attenuator based on a high-birefringence fiber loop mirror is described. The fiber loop mirror is placed in a controlled-temperature chamber. As the temperature is increased, the transmission spectrum exhibits a shift, while virtually not changing its shape. The degree of attenuation at a wavelength of 1558 nm exceeds 30 dB, while the introduced losses are about 2.5 dB. The temperature-induced shift of the spectrum is strictly linear. The response of the temperature sensor based on this effect is linear with a correlation coefficient of 0.9997. The obtained experimental data are interpreted based on the results of numerical modeling.  相似文献

A method for measuring the length of an optical fiber by use of an optical fiber ring laser pulse source is proposed and demonstrated. The key element of the optical fiber ring laser is a gain-switched Fabry-Perot laser diode operated in a self-injection seeding scheme. This method is especially suitable for measuring a medium or long fiber, and a resolution of 0.1 m is experimentally achieved. The measurement is implemented by accurately determining the pulse frequency that can maximize the output power of the fiber ring laser. The measurement results depend only on the refractive index of the fiber corresponding to this single wavelength, instead of the group index of the fiber, which represents a great advantage over both optical time-domain reflectometry and optical low-coherence reflectometry methods.  相似文献

Stable picosecond soliton transmission is demonstrated numerically by use of concatenated gain-distributed nonlinear amplifying fiber loop mirrors (NALMs). We show that, as compared with previous soliton transmission schemes that use conventional NALMs or nonlinear optical loop mirror and amplifier combinations, the present scheme permits a significant increase of loop-mirror (amplifier) spacing. The broad switching window of the present device and the high-quality pulses switched from it provide a reasonable stability range for soliton transmission. We also show that a soliton self-frequency shift can be suppressed by the gain-dispersion effect in the amplifying fiber loop and that soliton-soliton interactions can be partially reduced by using lowly dispersive transmission fibers.  相似文献

We designed and demonstrated what we believe to be a novel sensor for simultaneous measurement of stress and temperature. A fiber Bragg grating is flatly adhered to the surface of a loop thin-wall section beam. The theoretical analyses and the experimental results show that both the central wavelength shift and the chirped bandwidth of the grating reflection spectrum have a linear relationship with the stress and the temperature, respectively, and the slopes of them are different. Therefore, the temperature and stress can be discriminated by interrogating the chirped fiber grating. Moreover, we also investigated the strain of the loop thin-wall section beam, and the results show that the strain is cosine proportional to the double positional angle.  相似文献

A simple optical vernier filter with fiber grating Fabry-Perot resonators is proposed. This vernier filter comprises two isolated Fabry-Perot fiber resonators in tandem; each is formed with two parallel fiber reflection gratings. A comparison between this vernier filter and one that uses fiber (or waveguide) ring resonators is made. It is found that this vernier grating filter is simpler and usually has better output characteristics than the others.  相似文献

We propose a new recirculating fiber delay-line filter structure. In the proposed system a fiber Bragg grating (FBG) is used as a multireflection mirror in a fiber delay loop, and an erbium-doped fiber is used to provide gain in the loop. By adjusting parameters such as the coupling efficiency, the reflectivity of the FBG, and the gain, we can change the characteristics of the filter transfer function.  相似文献

A method is proposed to stabilize an intrinsic fiber optic Fabry-Perot interferometric sensor embedded in a solid material for the purpose of detecting ultrasound. Without stabilization the interferometer drifts out of quadrature due to the presence of low-frequency dynamic strains. Stabilization is achieved by using active homodyne stabilization which tunes the laser frequency to maintain quadrature. A control loop shifts the laser frequency by 10 GHz at rates less than 25 Hz in order to compensate for induced drifts. The stabilization procedure was tested for a sensor embedded in an epoxy plate. Ultrasonic pulses, generated by a 5 MHz piezoelectric transducer, were detected with the embedded fiber sensor stabilized in the presence of applied low frequency strains. Improvements in sensitivity which result from stabilization are demonstrated. Additionally, a simulated acoustic emission signal, generated by a lead pencil break (Hsu-Neilson source), was detected with the sensor stabilized in the presence of dynamic strains  相似文献

We present a novel design for a Sagnac loop filter (SLF) whose periodic output spectrum can be fully controlled by cascading a small-birefringence loop (SBL) with a high-birefringence loop (HBL). We develop a detailed theoretical analysis, using the Jones vector method, to calculate the transfer function of the tunable SLF. It has been quantitatively shown that both the transmission coefficient and the phase of the SLF can be controlled by adjusting the orientation angle of the birefringent axes of the SBL in the plane of polarization. The theory has been confirmed by experimental results where a stress-induced SBL was mechanically rotated to tune both the wavelength and the power of a periodic output spectrum. Such a tunable SLF is used in the design of a multiwavelength erbium-doped fiber laser in the C band.  相似文献

The reflection and transmission characteristics of a high-birefringence fiber loop mirror (HiBi-FLM), which is composed of a standard fiber coupler and one-section or multisection high-birefringence fibers (HBFs), are analyzed and discussed in detail. Theoretical reflectivity and transmissivity expressions for HiBi-FLMs with one-, two-, and three-section HBFs were obtained. The procedure for calculating reflectivity and transmissivity for HiBi-FLMs with n-section HBFs is given. Experimental results have verified the theoretical model. The basic characteristics of the one-section HiBi-FLM when strain and high temperature are applied to HBFs were analyzed and investigated theoretically and experimentally. The experimental results are in good agreement with the theoretical analysis. Furthermore, a strain--temperature sensor that makes use of those characteristics, which is new for applications of HiBi-FLMs, has been proposed and demonstrated.  相似文献

We present a new form of loop mirror (to be realized with all-fiber or integrated optics technology) that can produce narrow-band reflections and could find an application in single-frequency fiber lasers, allowing for a standing-wave design with a long doped section and eliminating the need for a Faraday isolator or a fiber grating. A high-performance multiple-channel erbium-doped fiber laser (EDFL) is proposed and experimentally demonstrated, using graphene-polymer nanocomposite as a multiwavelength equalizer and an asymmetric two-stage polarization-maintaining fiber (PMF) Sagnac loop as a flexible comb filter. At first, the filtering characteristics of the PMF Sagnac loop filter (SLF) are investigated. Both theoretical and experimental results show that it can provide a flexibly switchable and tunable comblike filtering. Then, the two-stage PMF SLF is inserted into a graphene-assisted EDFL cavity for generating multiwavelength oscillation. The extreme-high third-order optical nonlinearity of graphene is exploited to suppress the mode competition of the EDFL, and a stable multiple-channel lasing is observed. By carefully adjusting the polarization controllers in the two-stage PMF SLF, not only can the lasing-line number per channel be switchable between single and multiple wavelengths, but also the wavelength spacing in the triple-wavelength condition can be tunable. In the case of triple wavelengths per channel, up to 12 wavelengths with four channels stable oscillations can be achieved. The multiple-channel EDFL can keep a high extinction ratio of >40 dB and a narrow linewidth of <0.01 nm.  相似文献

We describe a novel optical acoustic detector based on a bias-controlled fiber Fabry-Perot interferometer. The detector has a broad bandwidth from 10 Mhz to a few gigahertz and higher sensitivity than conventional systems, which are useful for noncontact characterization of microsamples based on laser ultrasound.  相似文献

Optical microelectromechanical system pressure sensors based on the principle of Fabry-Perot interferometry have been developed and fabricated using the technique of silicon-to-silicon anodic bonding. The pressure sensor is then integrated onto an optical fiber by a novel technique of anodic bonding without use of any adhesives. In this anodic bonding technique we use ultrathin silicon of thickness 10 microm to bond the optical fiber to the sensor head. The ultrathin silicon plays the role of a stress-reducing layer, which helps the bonding of an optical fiber to silicon having conventional wafer thickness. The pressure-sensing membrane is formed by 8 microm thick ultrathin silicon acting as a membrane, thus eliminating the need for bulk silicon etching. The pressure sensor integrated onto an optical fiber is tested for static response, and experimental results indicate degradation in the fringe visibility of the Fabry-Perot interferometer. This effect was mainly due to divergent light rays from the fiber degrading the fringe visibility. This effect is demonstrated in brief by an analytical model.  相似文献
