The effects of hybrid conductive fillers on the electrical conductivity and electromagnetic interference shielding effectiveness (EMI SE) of polyamide 6 (PA6)/conductive filler composites were investigated. Nickel-coated carbon fiber (NCCF) was used as the main filler and multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWCNT), nickel-coated graphite, carbon black, and titanium dioxide (TiO2) were used as the second fillers in this study. From the results of morphological studies of the PA6/NCCF/second filler composites, NCCF easily formed an electrical pathway since it has a high aspect ratio and random orientation, and the second fillers seemed to disperse evenly in the PA6 matrix. The electrical conductivity and EMI SE of the PA6/NCCF composites were increased with the increase of NCCF content. Among the second fillers used in this study, TiO2 appeared to be the most effective second filler with regard to increasing the EMI SE and electrical conductivity of the PA6/NCCF composite. This was probably because TiO2 has a high dielectric constant with dominant dipolar polarization, consequently leading to greater shielding effectiveness due to the absorption of electromagnetic waves. From the above results of EMI SE and electrical conductivity, it was suggested that the TiO2 produced a synergistic effect when it was hybridized with the NCCF of the PA6/NCCF/TiO2 composites.  相似文献

Poly(trimethylene terephthalate) (PTT)/multiwalled carbon nanotube (MWCNT) composites have been fabricated to evaluate the potential of PTT composites as electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding material. The room temperature electrical conductivity, complex permittivity, and shielding effectiveness (SE) of PTT/MWCNT composites were studied in the frequency range of 8.2–12.4 GHz (X-band). The dc conductivity (σ) of composites increased with increasing MWCNT loading and a typical percolation behavior was observed at 0.48 vol% MWCNT loading. The highest EMI SE of PTT/MWCNT composites was ~23 decibel (dB) at 4.76 vol% MWCNT loading which suggest that these composites can be used as light weight EMI shielding materials. The correlation among the SE, complex permittivity, and electrical conductivity was also studied. The EMI shielding mechanism of PTT/MWCNT composites was studied by resolving the total EMI SE into absorption and reflection loss.  相似文献

Electromagnetic interference shielding composite materials were developed from the conductive blends of nanostructured polyaniline (PANI) and polyaniline-clay nanocomposite (PANICN) with ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) as host matrix. Electrically conducting nanostructured PANI and PANICNs were prepared using amphiphilic dopants, 3-pentadecyl phenol 4-sulphonic acid (3-PDPSA) derived from cashew nut shell liquid, a low cost renewable resource based product and dodecyl benzene sulfonic acid (DBSA). Effects of type and quantity of conductive fillers on the electrical conductivity, mechanical properties, thermal stability, morphology and electromagnetic shielding efficiency were investigated. The presence of exfoliated nanoclay and interaction between the conductive filler–host matrix in conductive films containing PANICNs manifested from the measurement on rheological property. Films with conductive filler (~15% loading) showed a shielding effectiveness of ~40–80 dB at 8 GHz which makes these conducting composites potential candidate for the encapsulation as EMI shielding materials for electronic devices.  相似文献

With the increasing of electromagnetic pollution and the widely use of commercial and military products, there is an increasing interest in electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding. This paper mainly aims at electrical conductivity and EMI shielding effectiveness (SE) of the conducting composites made from silicone rubber (SR) with different loading levels of HCl-doped polyaniline (PAN-HCl) in the low frequency range from 3 to 1500 MHz. The result indicates that SE of the composites increase and the volume resistivity decrease with increasing mass ratio loading of PAN-HCl in the SR. The measured SE of the composites are from 16 to 19.3 dB at 100 mass ratio loading of the PAN-HCl and the volume resistivity decrease nine orders of magnitude compared with that of the emeraldine base form of PAN (PAN-EB) composites.  相似文献

Conductive rubber composites were derived from different blends of ethylene-propylene-diene monomer (EPDM) rubber and acrylonitrile butadiene rubber (NBR) containing acetylene black. The electrical and mechanical properties of these composites were measured. The percolation limit for achieving high conductivity of conductive filler depends on the viscosity of the blend. The higher the viscosity, the higher is the percolation limit. The conductivity rises with increasing temperature, and the activation energy of conduction increases with the decrease in the loading of conductive filler and percentage of NBR in the blend. Electrical hysteresis and an electrical resistivity difference during the heating-cooling cycle are observed for these systems, which is mainly due to some kind of irreversible change occurring in the conductive networks during heating. The mechanisms of conduction of these systems were discussed in the light of different theories. It was found that the degree of reinforcement by acetylene black in blends compares with those in the pure components NBR and EPDM. This is due to incompatibility of two elastomers in the blend. This revised version was published online in November 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.  相似文献

Ti3SiC2/insulating polyaniline (Ti3SiC2/PANI) composites were prepared by solution blending and subsequently by hot-pressing process. The dielectric permittivity and electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding effectiveness (SE) of the composites were determined in the frequency range of 8.2–12.4 GHz (X-band). Both real and imaginary permittivities increase with the increasing Ti3SiC2 content, and which are attributed to the enhanced displacement current and conduction current. The EMI SE of the composites can be greatly improved by addition of Ti3SiC2 filler, which may be ascribed to the increase of electrical conductivity of the composites. It is also found that the reflection of electromagnetic radiation is a dominant mechanism for EMI shielding of the composite. An average EMI SE of 23 dB can be achieved in the X-band range for the composite with 25 wt% Ti3SiC2 content, which shows the potential of the Ti3SiC2/PANI composites as EMI shielding materials for commercial applications.  相似文献

Highly porous poly(dimethyl siloxane) (PDMS) composites containing cellular-structured microscale graphene foams (GFs) and conductive nanoscale carbon nanotubes (CNTs) are fabricated. The unique three-dimensional, multi-scale hybrid composites with inherent percolation and a high porosity of 90.8% present a remarkable electromagnetic interference shielding effectiveness (EMI SE) of ∼75 dB, a 200% enhancement against 25 dB of the composites made from GFs alone with the same graphene content and porosity. The corresponding specific EMI SE measured against the composite density is 833 dB cm3/g. These values are among the highest for all carbon filler/polymer composites reported thus far. Significant synergy arises from the hybrid reinforcement structure of the composites: the GFs drive the incident microwaves to be attenuated by dissipation of the currents induced by electromagnetic fields, while the CNTs greatly enhance the dissipation of surface currents by expanding the conductive networks and introducing numerous interfaces with the matrix.  相似文献

Conductive polymer composites (CPCs) that contain a segregated structure have attracted significant attentions because of their promising for fulfilling low filler contents with high electromagnetic interference (EMI) properties. In the present study, segregated poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF)/multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) composites were successfully prepared by mechanical mixing and hot compaction. The PVDF/MWCNTs samples with 7 wt% filler content possess high electrical conductivities and high EMI shielding effectiveness (SE), reaching 0.06 S cm−1 and 30.89 dB (in the X-band frequency region), much higher than lots of reported results for CNT-based composites. And the EMI SE greatly increased across the frequency range as the sample thickness was improved from 0.6 to 3.0 mm. The EMI shielding mechanisms were also investigated and the results demonstrated absorption dominating shielding mechanism in this segregated material. This effective preparation method is simple, low-cost, and environmentally-friendly and has potential industrial applications in the future.  相似文献

Co-extrusion technique is used to combine carbon fiber tows and thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) blends into composite carbon fibers (CCFs). The TPU blends serve as the shell and the carbon fiber tows serve as the core. CCFs are fabricated into woven composites and knitted composites with electromagnetic interference shielding effectiveness (EMI SE). The effects of the content of carbon fiber tows on different fabrics are examined. The failure mechanism of CCFs is improved as the fiber slippage along the axial direction replaces the fiber fracture. Fabrics made of CCFs are soft. The laminated woven composites have an average EMI SE of -27.20 dB at 0–3000 MHz and -44.99 dB at 2450 MHz, suggesting a good EMI attenuation capability. This study proposes the use of co-extrusion technique followed coating and fabrication of carbon fibers. This brand-new concept would be vital in the development of carbon fiber composites.

In-house synthesized multiwall carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) have been dispersed in acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) using a micro twin-screw extruder with back flow channel. The electrical and mechanical properties of MWCNTs in ABS with different wt% have been studied. Incorporation of only 3 wt. % MWCNTs in ABS leads to significant enhancement in the tensile strength (up to 69.4 MPa) which was equivalent to 29% increase over pure ABS. The effect of MWCNTs on the structural behaviour of ABS under tensile loading showed a ductile to brittle transition with increase concentration of MWCNTs. The results of enhanced mechanical properties were well supported by micro Raman spectroscopic and scanning electron microscopic studies. In addition to the mechanical properties, electrical conductivity of these composites increased from 10−12 to 10−5 Scm−1 showing an improvement of ∼7 orders of magnitude. Due to significant improvement in the electrical conductivity, EMI shielding effectiveness of the composites is achieved up to −39 dB for 10 wt. % loaded MWCNTs/ABS indicating the usefulness of this material for EMI shielding in the Ku-band. The mechanism of improvement in EMI shielding effectiveness is discussed by resolving their contribution in absorption and reflection loss. This material can be used as high-strength EMI shielding material.

Single-walled carbon nanotube (SWCNT) and ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) composites were synthesized in an internal mixer by melt mixing. The electrical conductivity as well as electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding effectiveness (SE) over the X-band (8–12 GHz) and microwave (200–2,000 MHz) frequency ranges of these composites were investigated. It was observed that the electrical conductivity of composites increases with increasing SWCNT loading. A percolation threshold of about 3.5 wt.% was obtained and the electrical conductivity of EVA was increased by ten orders of magnitude, from 10−14 to 10−4 Ω−1 cm−1. The effect of sample thickness on SE was investigated. The correlation between SE and conductivity of the composites is discussed. The experimental data showed that the SE of the composites containing higher carbon nanotube loadings (above 10 wt.%) could be used as an EMI shielding material and lower SWCNT loadings could be used for the dissipation of electrostatic charge.  相似文献

We investigated the electromagnetic interference shielding effectiveness (EMI SE) of composites consisting of an unsaturated polyester matrix containing woven glass or carbon fibers that had been coated with multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs). Composite panels consisting of fiber fabrics with various combinations of fabric type and stacking sequence were fabricated. Their EMI SE was measured in the frequency range of 30 MHz–1.5 GHz. The underlying physics governing the EMI shielding mechanisms of the materials, namely, absorption, reflection, and multiple reflections, was investigated and used in analytical models to predict the EMI SE. Simulation and experimental results showed that the contributions of reflection and absorption to EMI shielding is enhanced by sufficient impedance mismatching, while multiple reflections have a negative effect. For a given amount of MWCNTs in the glass-fiber–reinforced composite, coating the outermost, instead of intermediate, glass fiber plies with MWCNTs was found to maximize the conductivity and SE.  相似文献

The distribution of functional filler is known to have significant influence on various functionalities, yet, not been systematically investigated. Herein, we use a blends system based on PA12/PA6 containing SiC and low-temperature expandable graphite (LTEG) to study it. The effect of filler distribution in such blends on various functionalities including: thermal conductivity, electrical conductivity, and electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding ability, has been systematically studied. Further study on altering filler distribution with polished PA6-LTEG and PA6-LTEG in different sizes reveals that, polished particle surface results in reduced electrical and thermal conductivity; and smaller particle size leads to enhanced electrical conductivity, thermal conductivity and EMI shielding ability. Finally, theoretical approach on thermal conductivity demonstrates that the system illustrates very effective contribution in thermal conductivity from large PA6-LTEG “filler” comparing to much smaller traditional fillers. Such study could provide a guideline for the processing of functional polymer composites.  相似文献

In this paper, the low temperature electrical conductivity and microwave absorption properties of carbon coated iron nanoparticles–polyvinyl chloride composite films are investigated for different filler fractions. The filler particles are prepared by the pyrolysis of ferrocene at 980 °C and embedded in polyvinyl chloride matrix. The high resolution transmission electron micrographs of the filler material have shown a 5 nm thin layer graphitic carbon covering over iron particles. The room temperature electrical conductivity of the composite film changes by 10 orders of magnitude with the increase of filler concentration. A percolation threshold of 2.2 and an electromagnetic interference shielding efficiency (EMI SE) of ~18.6 dB in 26.5–40 GHz range are observed for 50 wt% loading. The charge transport follows three dimensional variable range hopping conduction.  相似文献

A novel functional nanoconducting composite from polyvinyl chloride reinforced graphite–copper nanoparticles (PVC/GCu) was fabricated in order to produce a material suitable for electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding applications. The microstructure of the nanocomposites was investigated by means of scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). The thermal stability of the nanocomposites could improved with the incorporation of GCu nanoparticles. The electrical conductivity increases with increasing GCu content within composites. The percolation threshold of composites is low of about 2 wt.%. Hall-effect studies indicate that increase in GCu content in the composites causes increase in carrier concentration, mobility of the carriers and the composites behave as n-type semiconductor. The nanocomposites showed a high dielectric constant and a high dissipation factor in the frequency range of 1–20 GHz which makes it useful in charge storing and decoupling capacitors applications. The EMI shielding effectiveness (SE) of the PVC/GCu nanocomposites was tested over a frequency range of 1–20 GHz, and 22–70 dB shielding efficiency was obtained for the composites, suggesting that they may be used as an effective lightweight EMI shielding material in aerospace and radar evasion applications.  相似文献

Ultrathin, lightweight, high-strength, and thermally conductive electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding materials with high shielding effectiveness (SE) are highly desired for next-generation portable and wearable electronics. Pristine graphene (PG) has a great potential to meet all the above requirements, but the poor processability of PG nanosheets hinders its applications. Here, efficient synthesis of highly aligned laminated PG films and nacre-like PG/polymer composites with a superhigh PG loading up to 90 wt% by a scanning centrifugal casting method is reported. Due to the PG-nanosheets-alignment-induced high electrical conductivity and multiple internal reflections, such films show superhigh EMI SE comparable to the reported best synthetic material, MXene films, at an ultralow thickness. An EMI SE of 93 dB is obtained for the PG film at a thickness of ≈100 µm, and 63 dB is achieved for the PG/polyimide composite film at a thickness of ≈60 µm. Furthermore, such PG-nanosheets-based films show much higher mechanical strength (up to 145 MPa) and thermal conductivity (up to 190 W m−1 K−1) than those of their MXene counterparts. These excellent comprehensive properties, along with ease of mass production, pave the way for practical applications of PG nanosheets in EMI shielding.  相似文献

Electromagnetic interference shielding composite materials were developed from the conductive blends of nanostructured polyaniline-clay composite (PANICN) and Polystyrene (PS) by a one step host matrix assisted emulsion polymerization of anilinium salt of 3-pentadecyl phenol-4-sulphonic acid (3-PDPSA) in clay. 3-PDPSA was derived from cashew nut shell liquid, a low cost renewable resource based product. These blends were characterized using Uv–visible and FT-IR spectroscopy, XRD, electrical conductivity, thermal property, dielectric property and electromagnetic shielding efficiency. The interactions between the primary particles and host matrix were elucidated from the studies made through spectroscopy and rheology. The key finding of the research is that this low cost PANICNPS blend with superior electrical conductivity (7.6 × 10?1 S/m), excellent thermal stability and EMI SE of 10–20 dB at 8 GHz makes them as a promising candidate for application in EMI shielding and antistatic discharge matrix for the encapsulation of micro electronic devices.  相似文献

Composites of polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) with micron and nano sized BaTiO3 powders were developed for electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding applications in the X band. PVDF-nano BaTiO3 composites show better shielding property compared to PVDF-micron sized BaTiO3 composites. The composite of PVDF with 40 vol% of nano BaTiO3 showed the best EMI shielding effectiveness and is about 9 dB. The contributions from reflection and absorption to the total EMI shielding effectiveness is same for the PVDF-BaTiO3 composites. Addition of small amount of silver particles improved the shielding properties of these composites due to the increased conductivity. An EMI shielding effectiveness of about 26 dB is obtained in the measured frequency range for the PVDF-20 vol% nano BaTiO3-10 vol% Ag composite of thickness 1.2 mm. Novel three phase composite combining the advantages of metal, nano ceramic and polymer is obtained with the potential for effective EMI shielding applications.  相似文献

The use of fibril materials as substrate for reinforcing polymers has wide industrial applications. In this article, we discuss polyaniline and polypyrrole as conducting polymers to provide electronic conductivity in E-glass fabric reinforced conducting composite with varied degree of composition and conductivity using industrially important polymers polymethylmethacrylate and polyvinyl chloride as a host matrix. Aromatic sulphonic acids such as PXSA, OXSA, PSA, PDSA, RDSA, OCPSA and MCSA were used as a dopant. The influence of the aromatic ring substituents in these dopants over the conductivity and processibility due to various interactions has been studied. The study shows that due to bulk nature of conductivity, shielding effectiveness (SE) increases with increase in conductivity and thickness of a composite. The test samples were characterized by conductivity and electromagnetic shielding effectiveness (EMI SE). The electromagnetic shielding effectiveness was measured by co-axial transmission line method in the frequency range of 0.01–1000 MHz. These composites with both side shielded by polypyrrole offered a uniform shielding effectiveness of 69 dB.  相似文献
