Mobile multimedia services are in high demand, but their development comes at high costs. The emergent computing paradigm cloud computing has great potential to embrace these issues. In fact, we are at the early stage of the coalescence of cloud computing, mobile multimedia and the Web. Motivated by the tremendous success story of the Web based on its simplicity principles, we argue for a comprehensive review on current practices of web and mobile multimedia cloud computing techniques for avoiding frictions. We draw on experience from the development of advanced collaborative multimedia web applications utilizing multimedia metadata standards like MPEG-7 and real-time communication protocols like XMPP. We propose our i5CLoud, a hybrid cloud architecture, which serves as a substrate for scalable and fast time-to-market mobile multimedia services. In this paper,we address the need for better hands-on learning materials in computing education and the need for integrating mobile computing education into computing curricular.We propose an innovative learning approach that uses state-of-the-art mobile computing technologies and devices to design a highly accessible and real-world relevant hands-on labware for computing education.The labware employs a modular design such that the learning materials can both be combined together into a single course of mobile program development and be integrated into the related computing courses as building blocks.The labware will help students understand the concepts,improve their problem solving skills,and prepare them for the mobile computing industrial workforce.The pilot modules of the labware have been presented to undergraduate students and have received positive feedbacks.  相似文献

Mobile computing is a revolutionary technology, born as a result of remarkable advance in the development of computer hardware and wireless communication. It enables us to access information anytime and anywhere even in the absence of physical network connection. More recently, there has been increasing interest in introducing ad hoc network into mobile computing, resulting in a new distributed computing style known as peer-to-peer (P2P) computing. In this paper, we discuss the data management issues in mobile and P2P environments. The use of wireless communication makes the data availability the most important problem here, so we focus on the problem of data availability and provide detailed discussion about replicating mobile databases. Grid and cloud computing systems have been extensively used to solve large and complex problems in science and engineering fields. These systems include powerful computing resources that are connected through high-speed networks. Due to the recent advances in mobile computing and networking technologies, it has become feasible to integrate various mobile devices, such as robots, aerial vehicles, sensors, and smart phones, with grid and cloud computing systems. This integration enables the design and development of the next generation of applications by sharing of resources in mobile environments and introduces several challenges due to a dynamic and unpredictable network. With the rapid development of mobile cloud computing, the security becomes a crucial part of communication systems in a distributed mobile cloud computing environment. Recently, in 2015, Tsai and Lo proposed a privacy-aware authentication scheme for distributed mobile cloud computing services. In this paper, we first analyze the Tsai–Lo’s scheme and show that their scheme is vulnerable to server impersonation attack, and thus, their scheme fails to achieve the secure mutual authentication. In addition, we also show that Tsai–Lo’s scheme does not provide the session-key security (SK-security) and strong user credentials’ privacy when ephemeral secret is unexpectedly revealed to the adversary. In order to withstand these security pitfalls found in Tsai–Lo’s scheme, we propose a provably secure authentication scheme for distributed mobile cloud computing services. Through the rigorous security analysis, we show that our scheme achieves SK-security and strong credentials’ privacy and prevents all well-known attacks including the impersonation attack and ephemeral secrets leakage attack. Furthermore, we simulate our scheme for the formal security analysis using the widely-accepted AVISPA (Automated Validation of Internet Security Protocols and Applications) tool, and show that our scheme is secure against passive and active attacks including the replay and man-in-the-middle attacks. More security functionalities along with reduced computational costs for the mobile users make our scheme more appropriate for the practical applications as compared to Tsai–Lo’s scheme and other related schemes. Finally, to demonstrate the practicality of the scheme, we evaluate the proposed scheme using the broadly-accepted NS-2 network simulator.  相似文献

In this paper, we report the development of an energy-efficient, high-performance distributed computing paradigm to carry out Collaborative Signal and Information Processing (CSIP) in sensor networks using mobile agents. In this paradigm, the processing code is moved to the sensor nodes through mobile agents, in contrast to the client/server-based computing, where local data are transferred to a processing center. Although the client/server paradigm has been widely used in distributed computing, the many advantages of the mobile agent paradigm make it more suitable for sensor networks. The paper first presents simulation models for both the client/server paradigm and the mobile agent paradigm. We use the execution time, energy and energy*delay as metrics to measure the performance. Several experiments are designed to show the effect of different parameters on the performance of the paradigms. Experimental results show that the mobile agent paradigm performs much better when the number of nodes is large while the client/server paradigm is advantageous when the number of nodes is small. Based on this observation, we then propose a cluster-based hybrid computing paradigm to combine the advantages of these two paradigms. There are two schemes in this paradigm and simulation results show that there is always one scheme which performs better than either the client/server or the mobile agent paradigms. Thus, the cluster-based hybrid computing provides an energy-efficient and high-performance solution to CSIP.  相似文献
