The ultrafast excited-state dynamics of three structurally related platinum(II) complexes has been investigated using femtosecond transient absorption spectrometry in 2-methyltetrahydrofuran (MTHF). Previous work has shown that Pt(dbbpy)(C[triple bond]C-Ph)2 (dbbpy is 4,4'-di(tert-butyl)-2,2'-bipyridine and C[triple bond]C-Ph is ethynylbenzene) has a lowest metal-to-ligand charge transfer (3MLCT) excited state, while the multichromophoric Pt(dbbpy)(C[triple bond]C-pyrene)2 (CC-pyrene is 1-ethynylpyrene) contains the MLCT state, but possesses a lowest intraligand (3IL) excited state localized on one of the CC-pyrenyl units (Pomestchenko, I. E.; Luman, C. R.; Hissler, M.; Ziessel, R.; Castellano, F. N. Inorg. Chem. 2003, 42, 1394-96). trans-Pt(PBu3)2(C[triple bond]C-pyrene)2 serves as a model system that provides a good representation of the CC-pyrene-localized 3IL state in a Pt(II) complex lacking the MLCT excited state. Following 400 nm excitation, the formation of the 3MLCT excited state in Pt(dbbpy)(C[triple bond]C-Ph)2 is complete within 200 +/- 40 fs, and intersystem crossing to the 3IL excited state in trans-Pt(PBu3)2(C[triple bond]C-pyrene)2 occurs with a time constant of 5.4 +/- 0.2 ps. Selective excitation into the low-energy MLCT bands in Pt(dbbpy)(C[triple bond]C-pyrene)2 (lambda(ex) = 480 nm) leads to the formation of the 3IL excited state in 240 +/- 40 fs, suggesting ultrafast wire-like energy migration in this molecule. The kinetic data suggest that the presence of the MLCT states in Pt(dbbpy)(C[triple bond]C-pyrene)2 markedly accelerates the formation of the triplet state of the pendant pyrenylacetylide ligand. In essence, the triplet sensitization process is kinetically faster than pure intersystem crossing in trans-Pt(PBu3)2(CC-pyrene)2 as well as vibrational relaxation in the MLCT excited state of Pt(dbbpy)(C[triple bond]C-Ph)2. These results are potentially important for the design of chromophores intended to reach their lowest excited state on subpicosecond time scales and advocate the likelihood of wire-like behavior in triplet-triplet energy transfer.  相似文献

The time-dependent density functional theory (TDDFT) method was carried out to investigate the hydrogen-bonded intramolecular charge-transfer (ICT) excited state of 4-dimethylaminobenzonitrile (DMABN) in methanol (MeOH) solvent. We demonstrated that the intermolecular hydrogen bond C[triple bond]N...H-O formed between DMABN and MeOH can induce the C[triple bond]N stretching mode shift to the blue in both the ground state and the twisted intramolecular charge-transfer (TICT) state of DMABN. Therefore, the two components at 2091 and 2109 cm(-1) observed in the time-resolved infrared (TRIR) absorption spectra of DMABN in MeOH solvent were reassigned in this work. The hydrogen-bonded TICT state should correspond to the blue-side component at 2109 cm(-1), whereas not the red-side component at 2091 cm(-1) designated in the previous study. It was also demonstrated that the intermolecular hydrogen bond C[triple bond]N...H-O is significantly strengthened in the TICT state. The intermolecular hydrogen bond strengthening in the TICT state can facilitate the deactivation of the excited state via internal conversion (IC), and thus account for the fluorescence quenching of DMABN in protic solvents. Furthermore, the dynamic equilibrium of these electronically excited states is explained by the hydrogen bond strengthening in the TICT state.  相似文献

The absorption spectra of the TCNB-toluene complex in the fluorescent state at 4.2°K were observed. On the basis of the results of excited singlet-singlet absorption spectra of some TCNB complexes at various temperatures, available fluorescence spectral data were re-interpreted. Instead of the model of so-called structural change, an alternative explanation in terms of the triple complex (D2+A?) in the excited state is proposed.  相似文献

A new scheme of photo‐fluorescent emission origin, described as S0 (relaxed state)→Sn (Frank‐Condon state)→ Sm (relaxed state)→S0 (Frank‐Condon state), is presented to explain the multiple fluorescent emissions of squaraine dyes observed experimentally according to the configuration interaction singles calculations of relaxed excited states of a model compound, bis[4‐(N,N‐dimethylamino)phenyl]squaraine (SQ). It is exhibited that all triple fluorescent emissions of SQ have their significant origin in vertical electron transitions of different relaxed excited states. In addition, some important absorption peaks appearing in higher energy region are most likely to be responsible for the higher energy band observed in solid states of many squaraine dyes.  相似文献

Charge exchange technique has been used to detect the presence of long-lived excited electronic states of some monosubstituted ethene cations. The technique is based on the criterion that charge exchange between polyatomic species is efficient only when the energy of reaction is close to zero or negative (DeltaE < or = 0), or the exoergicity rule. The A2A' states of vinylchloride, vinylbromide, vinyliodide, and acrylonitrile cations have been found to have long lifetimes (tens of microsecond or longer) while all the excited electronic states of vinylfluoride cation have been found to undergo rapid dissociation or nonradiative relaxation to the ground state. The long-lived states found are those displaying well-resolved vibrational structures in the photoelectron spectra. In particular, these are the states generated by removal of an electron from the in-plane nonbonding p orbitals of halogens or the in-plane pi orbital of the triple bond C[triple bound]N. The present findings are very similar to those for the monosubstituted benzene cations reported previously.  相似文献

Excited state lifetime and amplitude measurements were made on thiazole orange dimer (TOTO), a dimeric DNA-intercalating fluorophore, at single-molecule concentrations. As expected from previous study, the excited state lifetime of TOTO intercalated in DNA is dependent on the sequence of the double-stranded DNA, having values of 2.2 ns in poly-GC DNA and 1.8 ns in poly-AT DNA. The distribution of excited state lifetimes of single molecules of TOTO intercalated into oligonucleotides having varying proportions of poly-GC sequences relative to poly-AT sequences were analyzed as a function of the fraction of poly-GC. By using excited state lifetime distributions from the purely GC and purely AT oligonucleotides as a basis set, it was possible to estimate the GC content of oligonucleotides with intermediate GC composition to within a few percent error. This serves as a model for the analysis of equilibrium binding distributions in DNA using single-molecule methods.  相似文献

Despite the relatively small size of molecular bromine and iodine, the physicochemical behavior in different solvents is not yet fully understood, in particular when excited‐state properties are sought. In this work, we investigate isolated halogen molecules trapped in clathrate hydrate cages. Relativistic supermolecular calculations reveal that the environment shift to the excitation energies of the (nondegenerate) states and lie within a spread of 0.05 eV, respectively, suggesting that environment shifts can be estimated with scalar‐relativistic treatments. As even scalar‐relativistic calculations are problematic for excited‐state calculations for clathrates with growing size and basis sets, we have applied the subsystem‐based scheme frozen‐density embedding, which avoids a supermolecular treatment. This allows for the calculation of excited states for extended clusters with coupled‐cluster methods and basis sets of triple‐zeta quality with additional diffuse functions mandatory for excited‐state properties, as well as a facile treatment at scalar‐relativistic exact two‐component level of theory for the heavy atoms bromine and iodine. This simple approach yields scalar‐relativistic estimates for solvatochromic shifts introduced by the clathrate cages. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.  相似文献

Density functional theory and CASSCF calculations have been used to determine equilibrium geometries and vibrational frequencies of metal-capped one-dimensional pi-conjugated complexes (H3P)Au(C[triple chemical bond]C)(n)(Ph) (n = 1-6), (H3P)Au(C[triple chemical bond]CC6H4)(C[triple chemical bond]CPh), and H3P--Au(C[triple chemical bond]CC6H4)C[triple chemical bond]CAu--PH3 in their ground states and selected low-lying pi(pi)* excited states. Vertical excitation energies for spin-allowed singlet-singlet and spin-forbidden singlet-triplet transitions determined by the time-dependent density functional theory show good agreement with available experimental observations. Calculations indicate that the lowest energy 3(pi(pi)*) excited state is unlikely populated by the direct electronic excitation, while the low-lying singlet and triplet states, slightly higher in energy than the lowest triplet state, are easily accessible by the excitation light used in experiments. A series of radiationless transitions among related excited states yield the lowest 3(pi(pi)*) state, which has enough long lifetimes to exhibit its photochemical reactivities.  相似文献

The microwave spectra of propa-1,2-dienyl selenocyanate, H(2)C==C==CHSeC[triple bond]N, and cyclopropyl selenocyanate, C(3)H(5)SeC[triple bond]N, are reported. The spectra of the ground and two vibrationally excited states of the (80)Se isotopologue and the spectrum of the ground state of the (78)Se isotopologue were assigned for one rotameric form of H(2)C==C[double bond, length as m-dash]CHSeC[triple bond]N. This conformer is characterized by a C-C-Se-C dihedral angle of 129(5) degrees from synperiplanar (0 degrees ) and is shown to be the global minimum of H(2)C[double bond, length as m-dash]C[double bond, length as m-dash]CHSeC[triple bond]N. The spectra of the ground and of three vibrationally excited states of the (80)Se isotopologue, as well as of the ground state of the (78)Se isotopologue of one rotamer of C(3)H(5)SeC[triple bond]N were assigned. This conformer has a H-C-Se-C dihedral angle of 80(4) degrees from synperiplanar and is at least 3 kJ mol(-1) more stable than any other form of the molecule. The microwave study has been augmented by quantum chemical calculations at the B3LYP/6-311+ +G(3df,3pd) and MP2/6-311+ +G(3df,3pd) levels of theory.  相似文献

The series of novel mixed-ligand iridium(III) complexes Ir(Mebib)(ppy)X (Mebib = bis(N-methylbenzimidazolyl)benzene and ppy = phenylpyridine; X = Cl, 1; X = -C[triple band]CH, 2; X = CN, 3) have been investigated theoretically to explore their electronic structures and spectroscopic properties. The ground and excited state geometries have been fully optimized at the B3LYP/LANL2DZ and CIS/LANL2DZ levels, respectively. The optimized geometry structural parameters agree well with the corresponding experimental results. The HOMO of 1 and 3 are mainly localized on the Ir atom, Mebib, and ppy ligand, but that of 2 has significant X ligand composition. Absorptions and phosphorescences in CH2 Cl2 media have been calculated using the TD-DFT level of theory with the PCM model based on the optimized ground and excited state geometries, respectively. The lowest lying absorptions of 1 and 3 at 444 and 416 nm are attributed to a {[d(yz)(Ir) + pi(Mebib) + pi(ppy)] --> [pi*(Mebib)]} transition with metal-to-ligand, ligand-to-ligand, and intra-ligand charge transfer (MLCT/LLCT/ILCT) character, whereas that of 2 at 458 nm is related to a {[d(yz)(Ir) + pi(Mebib) + pi(ppy) + pi(C[triple band]CH)] --> [pi*(Mebib)]} transition with MLCT/LLCT/ILCT and X ligand-to-ligand charge transfer (XLCT) transition character. The phosphorescence of 1 and 3 at 565 and 543 nm originates from the 3{[dy(yz)(Ir) + pi(Mebib) + pi(ppy)] [pi*(Mebib)]} excited state, while that of 2 at 576 nm originates from the 3{[d(yz)(Ir) + pi(Mebib) + pi(ppy) + pi(C[triple band]CH)] [pi*(Mebib)]} excited state. The calculation results show that the absorption and emission transition character can be changed by altering the pi electron-withdrawing ability of the X ligand and the phosphorescent color can be tuned by adjusting the X ligand.

Diaryl acetylenes, in which one of the aryl groups is either a pyridine or a pyrazine, undergo efficient triplet state photocycloaddition to 1,4-cyclohexadiene with formation of 1,5-diaryl substituted tetracyclo[3.3.0.0(2,8).0(4,6)]octanes (homoquadricyclanes). In the case of pyrazinyl acetylenes, the primary homoquadricyclane products undergo a secondary photochemical rearangement leading to diaryl substituted tricyclo[3.2.1.0(4,6)]oct-2-enes. Mechanistic and photophysical studies suggest that photocycloaddition proceeds through an electrophilic triplet excited state whereas the subsequent rearrangement to the tricyclooctenes proceeds through a singlet excited state. Chemical and quantum yields for the cycloaddition, in general, correlate with the electron acceptor character of aryl substituents but are attenuated by photophysical factors, such as the competition between the conversion of acetylene singlet excited state into the reactive triplet excited states (intersystem crossing: ISC) and/or to the radical-anion (photoelectron transfer from the diene to the excited acetylene: PET). Dramatically enhanced ISC between pi-pi S(1) state and "phantom" n,pi triplet excited state is likely to be important in directing reactivity to the triplet pathway. The role of PET can be minimized by the judicious choice of reaction conditions (solvent, concentration, etc.). From a practical perspective, such reactions are interesting because "capping" of the triple bond with the polycyclic framework orients the terminal aryl (4-pyridyl, 4-tetrafluoropyridyl, phenyl, etc.) groups in an almost perfect 60 degrees angle and renders such molecules promising supramolecular building blocks, especially in the design of metal coordination polymers.  相似文献

The synthesis and photophysical properties of two new Re(I) complexes are reported: fac-Re(phenC triple-bond CH)(CO)(3)Cl (where phenC triple bond CH is 5-ethynyl-1,10-phenanthroline) and its Au(I)-acetylide analogue (fac-Re(phenC triple-bond CAuPPh(3))(CO)(3)Cl). Also reported are the photophysical measurements obtained for the benchmark fac-Re(phen)(CO)(3)Cl chromophore, as well as the phenC triple-bond CAuPPh(3) and phenC triple-bond CH ligands. The unstable nature of the precursor gold-containing ligand illustrates the advantage of using the "chemistry on the complex" approach, which facilitated preparation of the Re-Au binuclear complex. Where possible, all compounds were studied by static and transient absorption (TA), as well as steady-state and time-resolved photoluminescence (TRPL), at room temperature (RT) and 77 K, as well as nanosecond time-resolved infrared (TRIR) spectroscopy. The spectroscopic information provided by these techniques enabled a thorough evaluation of excited-state decay in most cases. In fac-Re(phenC triple bond CH)(CO)(3)Cl, the RT excited-state decay is most consistent with a metal-to-ligand charge transfer (MLCT) assignment, whereas at 77 K, the lowest excited state is dominated by the triplet intraligand ((3)IL) state, localized within the diimine ligand. The lowest excited state in fac-Re(phenC triple-bond CAuPPh(3))(CO)(3)Cl seems to result from an admixture of Re-based MLCT and (3)IL states resident on the phenC triple-bond CAuPPh(3) moiety. TA and TRIR methods indicate that these excited states are thermally equilibrated at room temperature. At 77 K, the MLCT energy of fac-Re(phenC triple-bond CAuPPh(3))(CO)(3)Cl is increased as a result of the glassy medium and the resulting excited state can be considered to be ligand-localized.  相似文献

Density functional theory and CASSCF calculations have been used to optimize the geometries of binuclear gold(I) complexes [H(3)PAu(C[triple bond]C)(n)AuPH(3)] (n=1-6) in their ground states and selected lowest energy (3)(pi pi*) excited states. Vertical excitation energies obtained by time-dependent density functional calculations for the spin-forbidden singlet-triplet transitions have exponential-decay size dependence. The predicted singlet-triplet splitting limit of [H(3)PAu(C[triple bond]C)(proportional/variant)AuPH(3)] is about 8317 cm(-1). Calculated singlet-triplet transition energies are in reasonable agreement with available experimental observations. The effect of the heavy atom Au spin-orbit coupling on the (3)(pi pi*) emission of these metal-capped one-dimensional carbon allotropes has been investigated by MRCI calculations. The contribution of the spin- and dipole-allowed singlet excited state to the spin-orbit-coupling wave function of the (3)(pi pi*) excited state makes the low-lying acetylenic triplet excited states become sufficiently allowed so as to appear in both electronic absorption and emission.  相似文献

The synthesis and X-ray structural and spectroscopic characterization for LAuC triple bond CAuL x 4CHCl(3) and LAuC triple bond C--C triple bond CAuL x 2CH(2)Cl(2) (1 x 4CHCl(3) and 2 x 2CH(2)Cl(2), respectively; L = PCy(3), tricyclohexylphosphine) are reported. The bridging C(n)(2-) units are structurally characterized as acetylene or diacetylene units, with C triple bond C distances of 1.19(1) and 1.199(8) A for 1 x 4CHCl(3) and 2 x 2CH(2)Cl(2), respectively. An important consequence of bonding to Au(I) for the C(n)(2-) moieties is that the lowest-energy electronic excited states, which are essentially acetylenic (3)(pi pi*) in nature, acquire sufficient allowedness via Au spin-orbit coupling to appear prominently in both electronic absorption and emission spectra. The origin lines for both complexes are well-defined and are observed at 331 and 413 nm for 1 and 2, respectively. Sharp vibronic progressions corresponding to v(C triple bond C) are observed in both emission and absorption spectra. The acetylenic (3)(pi pi) excited state of 2 has a long lifetime (tau(0) = 10.8 mus) in dichloromethane at room temperature and is a powerful reductant (E degrees [Au(2)(+)/Au(2)] < or = -1.85 V vs SSCE).  相似文献

The platinum diimine bis(acetylide) chromophore was utilized to explore photoinduced intramolecular reductive quenching with phenothiazine donors in chromophore-donor dyad complexes. Compounds of the general formula Pt(X(2)-bpy)(C triple bond C-p-C(6)H(4)CH(2)(D))(2) (where D = phenothiazine (PTZ) or trifluromethylphenothiazine (TPZ) and X = (t)Bu or CO(2)Et) were synthesized from the corresponding Pt(X(2)-bpy)Cl(2) and aryl acetylene by a CuI-catalyzed coupling reaction. Solvent dependence was explored for the system with X = (t)Bu in MeCN, CH(2)Cl(2), EtOAc, and toluene. Electron transfer quenching of the (3)MLCT excited state of the platinum diimine bis(acetylide) takes place in MeCN leaving no intrinsic emission from the excited state, but in toluene both the PTZ and TPZ dyad complexes exhibit no emission quenching. Picosecond pump-probe transient absorption (TA) experiments were used to monitor decay of the (3)MLCT excited state and electron transfer to form the charge-separated (CS) state. Electrochemical measurements were used to estimate the driving force for charge recombination (CR), with deltaE(CR) based on the reduction potential corresponding to Pt(X(2)-bpy)(C triple bond C-Ar)(2) --> Pt(X(2)-bpy(*)(-))(C triple bond C-Ar)(2) and the oxidation corresponding to donor --> donor(*)(+). Kinetic information from the TA measurements was used to correlate rate and driving force with the electron transfer reactions. Concomitant with the decay of the (3)MLCT excited state was the observation of a transient absorption at ca. 500 nm due to formation of the PTZ or TPZ radical cation in the CS state, with the rate of charge separation, k(CS), being 1.8 x 10(9) to 2 x 10(10) s(-1) for the three dyads explored in MeCN and 1:9 CH(2)Cl(2)/MeCN. The fastest rate of CR occurs for X = CO(2)Et and D = PTZ, the compound with smallest deltaE(CR) = 1.71 V. The rate of CR for dyads with X = (t)Bu and D = PTZ or TPZ was estimated to be 1.7-2.0 x 10(8) s(-1) in MeCN. The slower rate corresponds to a greater driving force for CR, deltaE(CR) = 2.18 and 2.36 V for D = PTZ and TPZ, respectively, suggesting that the driving force for charge recombination places it in the Marcus inverted region.  相似文献

The quantum mechanical (QM)/molecular mechanical (MM) interface between Chemistry at HARvard Molecular Mechanics (CHARMM) and TURBOMOLE is described. CHARMM provides an extensive set of simulation algorithms, like molecular dynamics (MD) and free energy perturbation, and support for mature nonpolarizable and Drude polarizable force fields. TURBOMOLE provides fast QM calculations using density functional theory or wave function methods and excited state properties. CHARMM–TURBOMOLE is well‐suited for extended QM/MM MD simulations using first principles methods with large (triple‐ζ) basis sets. We demonstrate these capabilities with a QM/MM simulation of Mg2+(aq), where the MM outer sphere water molecules are represented using the SWM4‐NDP Drude polarizable force field and the ion and inner coordination sphere are represented using QM PBE, PBE0, and MP2 methods. The relative solvation free energies of Mg2+ and Zn2+ were calculated using thermodynamic integration. We also demonstrate the features for excited state properties. We calculate the time‐averaged solution absorption spectrum of indole, the emission spectrum of the indole excited state, and the electronic circular dichroism spectrum of an oxacepham. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.  相似文献

The structures and related properties of the complex [Ru(phen)2(6-OH-dppz)]2+ (phen = 1,10-phenanthroline; dppz = dipyrido [3,2-a:2',3'-c]phenazine) in the ground state (S0), the first singlet excited state (S1), and the first triplet excited state (T1) have been studied using density functional theory (DFT), time-dependent (TD) DFT, Hartree-Fock (HF), and configuration interaction singles (CIS) methods. Three electronic absorption-spectral bands (1MLCT, 1LL, and 1LL) lying in the range of 250-550 nm in vacuo and in aqueous solution were theoretically calculated, simulated, and assigned with TDDFT method. In particular, the theoretical results show the following: (1) The positive charges of central Ru atom in the excited states (S1 and T1) are greatly increased relative to those in the ground state (S0), and thus the Ru atom in the excited states can be regarded as Ru(III). (2) The positive charges on the main ligand (6-OH-dppz) in the excited states are considerably reduced, and thus the interaction between the main ligand (intercalative ligand) and DNA base pairs is considerably weakened. (3) The geometric structures in excited states are also distorted, resulting in obvious increase in the coordination bond length. It is advantageous to the complex forming a high oxidizing center (i.e., Ru(III) ion). On the basis of these results, a theoretical explanation on photoinduced oxidation reduction mechanism of DNA photocleavage by [Ru(phen)2(6-OH-dppz)](2+) has been presented.  相似文献

An experiment is reported in which inelastically scattered electrons, ions and photons emitted by excited ions have been detected in triple coincidence. We studied the formation of the B2σ state of CO+. The coincidence intensity has been converted into a relative oscillator strength for formation of the B2σ state from threshold up to 60 eV.  相似文献
