This article characterizes the usability of 14 common, everyday products using the System Usability Scale (SUS). More than 1,000 users were queried about the usability of these products using an online survey methodology. The study employed two novel applications of the SUS. First, participants were not asked to perform specific tasks on these products before rating their usability but were rather asked to assess usability based on their overall integrated experience with a given product. Second, some of the evaluated products were assessed as a class of products (e.g., “microwaves”) rather than a specific make and model, as is typically done. The results show clear distinctions among different products and will provide practitioners and researchers with important known benchmarks as they seek to characterize and describe results from their own usability studies.  相似文献

This article examines the relationship between users’ subjective usability assessments, as measured using the System Usability Scale (SUS), and the ISO metric of effectiveness, using task success as the measure. The article reports the results of two studies designed to explore the relationship between SUS scores and user success rates for a variety of interfaces. The first study was a field study, where stereotypical usability assessments on a variety of products and services were performed. The second study was a well-controlled laboratory study where the level of success that users were able to achieve was controlled. For both studies, the relationship between SUS scores and their attendant performance were examined at both the individual level and the average system level. Although the correlations are far from perfect, there are reliable and reasonably strong positive correlations between subjective usability measures and task success rates, for both the laboratory and field studies at both the individual and system level.  相似文献

This research aims to customize the System Usability Scale (SUS) so it can be used as a standard usability measure on native Arabic-language speakers. A process of rigor translation followed by psychometric evaluation has been administered through a questionnaire in the Arabic-language that reflects a reasonable level of reliability, validity and sensitivity when compared to the original English-language SUS questionnaire. The final result of the Arabic-System Usability Scale (A-SUS) is then applied on students majoring in Communication Disorders Sciences (Kuwait University) to measure the usability of a mobile application. A-SUS encapsulates the essence of the original SUS and provides an adequate tool for professionals to use with Arabic native speaking users to evaluate systems usability.  相似文献

Perspective-based Usability Inspection: An Empirical Validation of Efficacy   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
Inspection is a fundamental means of achieving software usability. Past research showed that the current usability inspection techniques were rather ineffective. We developed perspective-based usability inspection, which divides the large variety of usability issues along different perspectives and focuses each inspection session on one perspective. We conducted a controlled experiment to study its effectiveness, using a post-test only control group experimental design, with 24 professionals as subjects. The control group used heuristic evaluation, which is the most popular technique for usability inspection. The experimental design and the results are presented, which show that inspectors applying perspective-based inspection not only found more usability problems related to their assigned perspectives, but also found more overall problems. Perspective-based inspection was shown to be more effective for the aggregated results of multiple inspectors, finding about 30% more usability problems for 3 inspectors. A management implication of this study is that assigning inspectors more specific responsibilities leads to higher performance. Internal and external threats to validity are discussed to help better interpret the results and to guide future empirical studies.  相似文献

The System Usability Scale (SUS) is a widely adopted and studied questionnaire for usability evaluation. It is technology independent and has been used to evaluate the perceived usability of a broad range of products, including hardware, software, and websites. In this article we present a Slovene translation of the SUS (the SUS-SI) along with the procedure used in its translation and psychometric evaluation. The results indicated that the SUS-SI has properties similar to the English version. Slovene usability practitioners should be able to use the SUS-SI with confidence when conducting user research.  相似文献

在开发以使用为中心的协同工作系统中,越来越要求在早期就能发现并修正可用性方面的缺陷,这就要求评估者对被评估系统的使用上下文有清晰的理解,进而要求在协同工作任务模型上得到充分的支持.然而,现有的界面模型和面向单用户的可用性评测技术却不能有效地覆盖最基础的协作原子行为和团队协作的上下文信息,于是从面向评估的角度提出了一种新的协同工作系统描述模型,在模型上应用快速评估方法中的遍历技术,通过迭代地模拟真实环境中系统的使用状况,可以实现低成本的早期可用性评估.实验表明,该方法较几种传统方法有一定的优势.  相似文献

The System Usability Scale (SUS) is the most widely used standardized questionnaire for the assessment of perceived usability. This review of the SUS covers its early history from inception in the 1980s through recent research and its future prospects. From relatively inauspicious beginnings, when its originator described it as a “quick and dirty usability scale,” it has proven to be quick but not “dirty.” It is likely that the SUS will continue to be a popular measurement of perceived usability for the foreseeable future. When researchers and practitioners need a measure of perceived usability, they should strongly consider using the SUS.  相似文献

Cache coherency in a scalable parallel computer architecture requires mechanisms beyond the conventional common bus based snooping approaches which are limited to about 16 processors. The new Convex SPP-1000 achieves cache coherency across 128 processors through a two-level shared memory NUMA structure employing directory based and SCI protocol mechanisms. While hardware support for managing a common global name space minimizes overhead costs and simplifies programming, latency considerations for remote accesses may still dominate and can under unfavorable conditions constrain scalability. This paper provides the first published evaluation of the SP-1000 hierarchical cache coherency mechanisms from the perspective of measured latency and its impact on basic global How control mechanisms, scaling of a parallel science code, and sensitivity of cache miss rates to system scale. It is shown that global remote access latency is only a factor of seven greater than that of local cache miss penalty and that scaling of a challenging scientific application is not severely degraded by the hierarchical structure for achieving consistency across the system processor caches.  相似文献

In the last decade, the research of the usability of mobile phones has been a newly evolving area with few established methodologies and realistic practices that ensure capturing usability in evaluation. Thus, there exists growing demand to explore appropriate evaluation methodologies that evaluate the usability of mobile phones quickly as well as comprehensively. This study aims to develop a task-based usability checklist based on heuristic evaluations in views of mobile phone user interface (UI) practitioners. A hierarchical structure of UI design elements and usability principles related to mobile phones were developed and then utilized to develop the checklist. To demonstrate the practical effectiveness of the proposed checklist, comparative experiments were conducted on the usability checklist and usability testing. The majority of usability problems found by usability testing and additional problems were discovered by the proposed checklist. It is expected that the usability checklist proposed in this study could be used quickly and efficiently by usability practitioners to evaluate the mobile phone UI in the middle of the mobile phone development process.  相似文献

The mobile Internet—accessing the Internet via a mobile device—has become quite popular recently. The mobile Internet is mainly different from the stationary Internet because it may be used in various contexts, whereas the stationary Internet is mostly used in pre-determined environments. However, it is unclear when the mobile Internet is used most frequently, and in what context it is most useful. A greater understanding of the contexts for using the mobile Internet will relieve usability problems that mobile Internet users often encounter.This paper proposes a conceptual framework of use contexts, which includes various facets of contexts related to the mobile Internet. It then presents the results of an exploratory study in which the use contexts for the mobile Internet and corresponding usability problems have been empirically monitored. The results indicate that use of the mobile Internet is heavily clustered around a few key contexts, rather than dispersed widely in diverse contexts. Moreover, different contexts are found to cause different kinds of usability problems. The paper ends with theoretical and practical implications of the study results.  相似文献

This article describes the development of a standardized computer system usability questionnaire for use with speakers of the Turkish language, the Turkish Computer System Usability Questionnaire, Short Version (T-CSUQ-SV). This new questionnaire, based on the English-language CSUQ, underwent careful translation and transformation through comprehensive psychometric evaluation. The results of the psychometric evaluation revealed an acceptable level of reliability, appropriate construct validity, and sensitivity to manipulation, indicating that Turkish usability practitioners should be able to use the T-CSUQ-SV with confidence when conducting user research.  相似文献

移动应用已经成为人们日常生活中不可缺少的部分,可用性成为影响移动应用竞争力的主要因素,也是目前移动应用中一个突出问题。可用性是判断产品好坏的一个核心要素,如果一个产品的可用性评价得分很高,那么极有可能会为企业带来庞大的用户量,采用合适的方式变现就可以实现经济效益,因此如何提高产品的可用性对于企业来说极其重要。移动应用可用性评价的关键是建立一套合理、完善的评价指标体系。本文首先对常用的指标体系进行了比较分析,然后针对移动应用便携性的特点,提取本文所需要的指标与测度参数,建立移动应用的可用性指标体系,最后通过日志分析和数据挖掘等方法完成移动应用可用性的评价研究。  相似文献
