In a radio frequency receiver, image signals degrade the sensitivity of the receiver for receiving desired signals. This letter analyzes the effect of phase mismatch on image rejection in the Weaver architecture, which has been proposed to reject image signals. Weaver architecture requires the phase difference between the I signal and Q signal of the first and second local oscillators (LOs) to be 90deg. However, the realization of accurate 90deg phase shifters is very difficult. It is found here that an accurate 90deg phase shifter is not essential in Weaver architecture. Instead, by making the phase mismatch between the I and Q signals of the first LO be equal to that of the second LO, image rejection can be performed, being insensitive to the phase mismatch. Harmonic signal generation and frequency up-conversion are demonstrated using a hybrid mode-locked multisection distributed-feedback (MS-DFB) laser. Hybrid mode-locking is realized by direct injection of electrical local oscillator (LO) signals into the laser gain control section. The harmonic signals are generated when multiple optical modes produced by the hybrid mode-locked MS-DFB laser are detected in a photodiode (PD). In addition, if data signals at fIF are applied to the device along with LO signals at fLO, optical sidebands separated from the optical modes by fIF are generated and harmonic up-converted signals are obtained by mode-beating in PD. Using this method, we demonstrate generation of the third-harmonic millimeter-waves at 30.79 GHz with fLO at 10.263 GHz, and up-conversion of 12.5-Mb/s 32 quadrature amplitude modulation data at 300-MHz fIF into 30-GHz band  相似文献

The letter describes an all-digital, noncoherent demodulator suitable for the detection of CPFSK and PSK signalling schemes. A single A/D convertor demodulates the input signal and generates baseband in-phase (I) and quadrature (Q) signals. The I and Q signals are then processed with sine and cosine detectors to produce AFC information and the regenerated transmit data.  相似文献

The spectrum of the quantization error in a dithered sigma-delta modulator is derived under the constraint that the dithering signal does not cause overload. The results apply to DC, sinusoidal, and more general quasi-stationary signals. It is shown in the case of a simple sigma-delta modulation that no-overload dithering can smooth the error spectrum and can make the quantization error asymptotically uncorrelated with the input. It does not, however, make the quantization error white. In the case of multistage sigma-delta modulation with the appropriate dithering, the quantization error becomes white, even for a system with only two stages. The signal-to-quantization-noise ratio (SQNR) is derived for sigma-delta and multistage sigma-delta oversampled analog-to-digital conversion with additive dithering. Digital decimation filters play a fundamental role in oversampled sigma-delta A/D decoders. In this paper, we first show that weighted median (WM) filtering of a demodulated sequence (at the Nyquist rate) can be implemented concurrently in the A/D decoder. Through a simple modification of the binary time-series outputted by the A/D modulator, the sequence obtained after the sigma-delta modulation (SDM) decoder is shown to be equivalent to WM filtering the multilevel sequence at the Nyquist rate. Second, we show that WM filters can be used for SDM decimation filters and that these filters are readily implemented in the SDM binary domain. A very promising characteristic of SDM converters equipped with WM decimating filters is that sharp discontinuities (edges) can be preserved and acquired. Thus, the bandlimited constraint imposed on the input signals can be relaxed making SDM more attractive to A/D conversion of signals containing sharp transitions. Interest in multilevel inverters is increasing in recent years, especially in high voltage applications. Traditional pulse width modulation (PWM) techniques can be applied to control this type of switched converter. However, it is necessary to adapt these techniques to the particularities of multilevel operation. As an alternative, other modulation techniques, such as sigma-delta modulation (SDM) can be used. In this case, it is possible to use advanced modulation techniques, such as adaptive modulation, to adapt the SDM to the multilevel operation. This article presents a new adaptive sigma-delta modulator that controls a five levels multilevel inverter. The algorithm that generates the sigma-delta signal is implemented in a field-programmable gate array (FPGA). This allows a very fast operation independent of the overall control circuit operation response. In addition, the FPGA can generate the control signals necessary to drive the power semiconductors in the power stage. The resulting modulator is simpler than the PWM version.  相似文献

A reconfigurable sigma-delta modulator, which is able to support the predictable standards for the fourth generation (4G) of mobile communication systems, is presented in this paper. This modulator was designed to cope with six different communications standards relying on a flexible architecture. Furthermore, the proposed architecture introduces the ability to process concurrently two different signals. The major design issues are outlined and operation modes are detailed. The feasibility of the presented solution is demonstrated using high-level system-level simulations as well as device-level simulations of the modulator implemented with switched capacitor circuits.  相似文献

A broadband microwave/millimeter-wave (MMW) Gilbert-cellmixer using standard 1P8M 0.13-/spl mu/m complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) technology is presented in this letter. Two radio frequency (RF) transformer baluns are used in RF-and local oscillator (LO)-ports to convert single-ended signals to differential signals. Thin film microstrip line is employed for the matching networks and transformer design. This mixer has a conversion gain of better than 5dB from 9 to 50GHz. Between 5 and 50GHz,the RF- and LO-to-intermediate frequency (IF) isolations are better than 40dB. The RF-to-LO and LO-to-RF isolations are all better than 20dB. To the authors' knowledge, this is the first CMOS Gilbert-cell mixer operating to MMW frequency to date.  相似文献

For low-power and accurate quadrature local oscillator (LO) signal generation, an LC-tank voltage controlled oscillator (VCO) operating at double the required LO-frequency reuses the bias current of divide-by-two frequency divider. The current reusing VCO and divide-by-two frequency divider are targeted to generate the LO signals for a 1.57 GHz global positioning system receiver. Implemented in a 0.18 mum CMOS technology, the current reusing VCO and divide-by-two frequency divider consumes 1.7mA from a 1.8 V supply. The measured phase noise is -120dBc/Hz at 1 MHz offset when the carrier frequency is 1.57GHz.  相似文献

Novel adder and multiplier circuits for bit-stream signal processing customised for quad-level sigma-delta modulated signals are proposed. Compared with existing sorter-based quad-level sigma-delta adders and multipliers, the proposed implementation is more resource-efficient (>76% hardware savings) and faster (>93% higher clock frequency) when realised on state-of-the-art FPGA architecture featuring six- input look-up tables.  相似文献

A 5.7 GHz downconversion mixer is demonstrated in this letter using 0.35 mum SiGe BiCMOS technology. A quarter-wavelength coupled line and two center-tapped transformers are utilized to generate differential quadrature LO signals. A miniaturized Marchand balun is placed before the common-base-configured RF input stage of each Gilbert mixer to generate balanced RF signals. All the reactive passive elements are placed directly on the standard silicon substrate. The 5.7 GHz downconverter achieves 7 dB conversion gain, 26dBm 1dB, and 18dBm IIP3 at the power consumption of 3.875 mW and 2.5 V supply voltage.  相似文献

A time-interleaved sigma-delta modulator using the output prediction scheme is proposed. This approach uses only one integrator channel along with incomplete integrator output terms to eliminate the quantizer domino which is a key limit for practical circuit implementation of conventional time-interleaved sigma-delta modulators. In addition, channel mismatch effects due to mismatch within multiple integrator feedback paths can be reduced by optimizing the feedback path. An equivalent two-channel time-interleaved version of the conventional second-order sigma-delta modulator is realized to verify the proposed method.  相似文献

Two filter designs for adaptive least mean squares (LMS) filtering with sigma-delta modulated input signals are described. One implementation is multibit multiplier-free and operates entirely at the oversampling frequency of the sigma-delta signals, in the other design only the FIR filter operates at the oversampled frequency while the adaptive filtering algorithm is performed at the Nyquist rate. To circumvent any aliasing problems that may be caused by the downsampling process in the architecture and ensure convergence of the adaptive FIR filter. It is necessary to attenuate the high-frequency sigma-delta quantisation noise that is present. To perform this task a multiplier-free, multistage IIR filter structure is used that requires considerably fewer computations than an equivalent FIR filter. Using sigma-delta A/D methods, high resolution can be obtained for only low to medium signal bandwidths. This article describes conventional A/D conversion, as well as its performance modeling. We then look at the technique of oversampling, which can be used to improve the resolution of classical A/D methods. We discuss how sigma-delta converters use the technique of noise shaping in addition to oversampling to allow high resolution conversion of relatively low bandwidth signals. We examine the use of sigma-delta converters to convert narrowband bandpass signals with high resolution. Several parallel sigma-delta converters, which offer the potential of extending high resolution conversion to signals with higher bandwidths, are also described  相似文献

A full-duplex 60-GHz radio-over-fiber (RoF) system using novel optical local oscillating (LO) carrier distribution scheme to reduce the system cost and realize centralized management is proposed and experimentally demonstrated. In the proposed scheme, the optical LO carriers for producing remote electrical LO signals at the base stations (BSs) are generated together with the downlink RoF carriers at the central station (CS) via four-wave-mixing effect in semiconductor optical amplifier, and are then distributed to the BSs along with the downlink RoF signals. By down-converting the 60-GHz-band uplink signal with the remotely produced 60-GHz LO signal and reusing the optical LO carriers as the uplink optical source, only a cost-effective intermediate frequency modulator is required at each BS to transmit the uplink signal, which will dramatically reduce the whole system budget due to a large amount of BSs. Moreover, the operating frequency of each BS can be controlled remotely at the CS end to realize centralized management and convenient reconfiguration. Using the proposed scheme, 622-Mb/s signals for both directions are successfully transmitted over a 20-km single-mode fiber link and a 50-cm wireless channel with less than 0.1- and 0.2-dB power penalty for downlink and uplink, respectively.   相似文献

In this letter, we present a monolithically integrated up-converting active mixer that shifts a signal in the 16 GHz range up to the V-band using a 48 GHz local oscillator (LO) signal. The circuit was realized with the 0.2 /spl mu/m InP HEMT in-house process of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich using coplanar-waveguide technology. Measurements of the fabricated circuit show a peak conversion gain of 1 dB at 64.5 GHz for -1.7 dBm LO power, LO suppression better than 30 dB and input third-order intercept point of -1.6 dBm. This mixer will be employed in the signal up-conversion path of a 60 GHz transceiver for indoor wireless LANs.  相似文献
