For high solar conversion efficiency of dye-sensitized solar cells [DSSCs], TiO2 nanofiber [TN] and Ag-doped TiO2 nanofiber [ATN] have been extended to be included in TiO2 films to increase the amount of dye loading for a higher short-circuit current. The ATN was used on affected DSSCs to increase the open circuit voltage. This process had enhanced the exit in dye molecules which were rapidly split into electrons, and the DSSCs with ATN stop the recombination of the electronic process. The conversion efficiency of TiO2 photoelectrode-based DSSCs was 4.74%; it was increased to 6.13% after adding 5 wt.% ATN into TiO2 films. The electron lifetime of DSSCs with ATN increased from 0.29 to 0.34 s and that electron recombination was reduced.  相似文献

Dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) are fabricated based on hollow anatase TiO2 (HA-TiO2) spheres synthesized by a chemically induced self-transformation (CIST) strategy using urea as a base catalyst, whose walls are composed of anatase nanocrystals and exhibit hierarchical porosity. TiO2 hollow structured materials not only have low density, high specific surface areas, and hierarchically porous structures, but also exhibit high light-collection efficiency and fast motion of charge carriers. Effects of calcination temperatures on the performance of HA-TiO2 solar cells are investigated and discussed. With increasing calcination temperatures, the light-electricity conversion efficiencies (η) increase. At 600 °C, HA-TiO2 cells reach the highest efficiency. The performances of HA-TiO2 cells are also compared with Degussa P-25 (P25) TiO2 nanoparticle cells at the same film thickness, and their optimal efficiencies at 600 °C are 4.82 and 4.35%, respectively. The enhanced performance of HA-TiO2 cells is due to their high surface area and hierarchically nanoporous structures when compared with the nonporous TiO2 nanoparticles (P25).  相似文献

The dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) using Ti foil supporting substrate for fabricating nanocrystalline TiO2 flexible film electrodes were developed, intending to improve the photoelectrochemical properties of flexible substrate-based DSSCs. The obtained cells were characterized by electrochemical impedance spectra (EIS), open circuit voltage decay (OCVD) measurement and Tafel plots. The experimental results indicate that the most important advantage of a Ti foil-based TiO2 flexible electrode over a FTO glass-based electrode lies in its reduced sheet resistance, electron traps, and the retarded back reaction of electrons with tri-iodine ions in DSSCs. All above characteristics for the Ti substrate TiO2 films are beneficial for decreasing the charge recombination in the TiO2 electrode and prolonging the electron lifetimes for the DSSCs, as well as improvement of the overall solar conversion efficiency. The photocurrent of the cell fabricated with the Ti foil-based flexible electrode increased significantly, leading to a much higher overall solar conversion efficiency of 5.45% at 100 mW/cm2 than the cell made with FTO glass-based TiO2 electrodes. Above results demonstrate that Ti foil is a potential alternative to the conventional FTO glass substrate for the DSSCs.  相似文献

Nanostructural TiO2 films with large surface areas were prepared by the combined process of graft polymerization and sol–gel for use in dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). The surface of the TiO2 nanoparticles was first graft polymerized with photodegradable poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) via atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP), after which the particles were deposited onto a conducting glass. The PMMA chains were removed from the TiO2 films by UV irradiation to generate secondary pores, into which titanium isopropoxide (TTIP) was infiltrated. The TTIP was then converted into small TiO2 particles by calcination at 450 °C, as characterized by energy-filtering transmission electron microscopy (EF-TEM) and field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM). The nanostructural TiO2 films were used as a photoelectrode in solid-state DSSCs; the energy conversion efficiency was 5.1% at 100 mW/cm2, which was higher than the values achieved by the pristine TiO2 (3.8%) and nongrafted TiO2/TTIP photoelectrodes (3.3%). This performance enhancement is primarily due to the increased surface area and pore volume of TiO2 films, as revealed by the N2 adsorption–desorption isotherm.  相似文献

Ga-doped ZnO [GZO] thin films were employed for the transparent electrodes in dye-sensitized solar cells [DSSCs]. The electrical property of the deposited GZO films was as good as that of commercially used fluorine-doped tin oxide [FTO]. In order to protect the GZO and enhance the photovoltaic properties, a TiO2 blocking layer was deposited on the GZO surface. Then, TiO2 nanoparticles were coated on the blocking layer, and dye was attached for the fabrication of DSSCs. The fabricated DSSCs with the GZO/TiO2 glasses showed an enhanced conversion efficiency of 4.02% compared to the devices with the normal GZO glasses (3.36%). Furthermore, they showed better characteristics even than those using the FTO glasses, which can be attributed to the reduced charge recombination and series resistance.  相似文献

We have studied the performance of dye-sensitized solar cells by employing natural dye “anthocyanins” extracted from the tomato slurry as a sensitizer for the TiO2/CuO photoanode. The extracts were anchored on TiO2/CuO films deposited on an ITO substrate which was used as a photoanode. The dye adsorbed TiO2/CuO films electrode, the copper plate as a counter electrode, and iodolyte as an electrolyte were assembled into DSSCs. The conversion efficiency of the DSSCs was found to be 2.96% with a VOC of 0.615 V, JSC of 6.6 mA/cm2, and an FF of 0.73. This work highlights the use of contribution of the tomato slurry as a natural sensitizer to enhance the efficiency of DSSCs.  相似文献

In this study, dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) were fabricated using nanocrystalline titanium dioxide (TiO2) nanoparticles as photoanode. Photoanode thin films were prepared by doctor blading method with 420 kg/cm2 of mechanical compression process and heat treatment in the air at 500°C for 30 min. The optimal thickness of the TiO2 NP photoanode is 26.6 μm with an efficiency of 9.01% under AM 1.5G illumination at 100 mW/cm2. The efficiency is around two times higher than that of conventional DSSCs with an uncompressed photoanode. The open-circuit voltage of DSSCs decreases as the thickness increases. One DSSC (sample D) has the highest conversion efficiency while it has the maximum short-circuit current density. The results indicate that the short-circuit current density is a compromise between two conflict factors: enlargement of the surface area by increasing photoanode thickness and extension of the electron diffusion length to the electrode as the thickness increases.  相似文献

In this study, the P25 titanium dioxide (TiO2) nanoparticle (NP) thin film was coated on the fluorine-doped tin oxide (FTO) glass substrate by a doctor blade method. The film then compressed mechanically to be the photoanode of dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). Various compression pressures on TiO2 NP film were tested to optimize the performance of DSSCs. The mechanical compression reduces TiO2 inter-particle distance improving the electron transport efficiency. The UV–vis spectrophotometer and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) were employed to quantify the light-harvesting efficiency and the charge transport impedance at various interfaces in DSSC, respectively. The incident photon-to-current conversion efficiency was also monitored. The results show that when the DSSC fabricated by the TiO2 NP thin film compressed at pressure of 279 kg/cm2, the minimum resistance of 9.38 Ω at dye/TiO2 NP/electrolyte interfaces, the maximum short-circuit photocurrent density of 15.11 mA/cm2, and the photoelectric conversion efficiency of 5.94% were observed. Compared to the DSSC fabricated by the non-compression of TiO2 NP thin film, the overall conversion efficiency is improved over 19.5%. The study proves that under suitable compression pressure the performance of DSSC can be optimized.  相似文献

Efficiency of dye-sensitized solar cells [DSSCs] was enhanced by combining the use of TiO2 nanotubes [TNTs] and nanoparticles. TNTs were fabricated by a sol-gel method, and TiO2 powders were produced through an alkali hydrothermal transformation. DSSCs were constructed using TNTs and TiO2 nanoparticles at various weight percentages. TNTs and TiO2 nanoparticles were coated onto FTO glass by the screen printing method. The DSSCs were fabricated using ruthenium(II) (N-719) and electrolyte (I3/I3 -) dyes. The crystalline structure and morphology were characterized by X-ray diffraction and using a scanning electron microscope. The absorption spectra were measured using an UV-Vis spectrometer. The incident photocurrent conversion efficiency was measured using a solar simulator (100 mW/cm2). The DSSCs based on TNT/TiO2 nanoparticle hybrids showed better photovoltaic performance than cells made purely of TiO2 nanoparticles.  相似文献

A TiO2 organic sol was synthesised for the preparation of a compact TiO2 layer on fluorine-doped tin oxide (FTO) glass by a dip-coating technique. The resultant thin film was used for the fabrication of dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). The compact layer typically has a thickness of ca. 110 nm as indicated by its SEM, and consists of anatase as confirmed by the XRD pattern. Compared with the traditional DSSCs without this compact layer, the solar energy-to-electricity conversion efficiency, short-circuit current and open-circuit potential of the DSSCs with the compact layer were improved by 33.3%, 20.3%, and 10.2%, respectively. This can be attributed to the merits brought by the compact layer. It can effectively improve adherence of TiO2 to FTO surface, provide a larger TiO2/FTO contact area, and reduce the electron recombination by blocking the direct contact between the redox electrolyte and the conductive FTO surface.  相似文献

Dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) were fabricated using TiO2 nanoparticles incorporating different amounts of plasma functionalized carbon nanocapsules (CNCs) as the photoanode. The functionalization was obtained by grafting maleic anhydride (MA) onto the walls of CNCs immediately after the in situ argon plasma treatment. Nanocrystalline semiconductor film electrodes were prepared by sintering TiO2 with added MA-CNCs on a conducting glass substrate. Capacitance measurements obtained from electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) analysis in an aqueous electrolyte are fitted using the Mott–Schottky relationship and demonstrate the variation of flatband potential (Vfb) for the composite with MA-CNC content. The potential chronoamperometric and cyclic voltammetric data supports the argument that the increased Vfb minimizes the defect state for trapping/detrapping of electrons within the MA-CNC/TiO2. As a result of higher film capacitance and electron accumulation, the MA-CNC/TiO2 shows increased conversion efficiency and photocurrent density when used as the photoanode in DSSCs. EIS measurement further demonstrates that charge recombination at the interface of MA-CNC/TiO2 and electrolyte is suppressed with increasing electron lifetime and is in good agreement with the photovoltaic performance. The amount of MA-CNCs added, however needs to be optimized due to the unavoidable issue of aggregation.  相似文献

Electrophoretic deposition (EPD) method is employed to obtain mesoporous TiO2 film on a titanium (Ti) foil; the film is then mechanically compressed and sintered at 350 °C before being subjected to dyeing. A comprehensive study was made on the mechanistic aspects of the EPD process. The dye-sensitized solar cell (DSSC) using the thus formed TiO2 film rendered a power conversion efficiency (Eff.) of 6.5%. Effects of various compression pressures on the photovoltaic parameters and on other characteristic parameters of the pertinent DSSCs are studied. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) is applied for the first time, using a novel equivalent model, to study the impedance behavior of the DSSC with this type of TiO2 film. We also obtain characteristic parameters of the TiO2 photoanode by using EIS. The coordination number of the TiO2 film, and the ratio of charge transfer resistances of electron recombination and electron transport are also obtained and analyzed. Moreover, we employ a multilayer approach and increase the film thickness to prepare TiO2 films with the same coordination number and porosity; DSSCs using such TiO2 films obtained from P90 and P25 rendered efficiencies of 6.5% and 5.24%, respectively. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) micrographs are obtained to characterize the TiO2 films formed by the EPD technique and laser-induced transient technique is used to estimate the electron lifetime in the TiO2 films.  相似文献

Optically transparent, crack-free, mesoporous anatase TiO2 thin films were fabricated. The Ag/TiO2 composite films were prepared by incorporating Ag in the pores of TiO2 films with an impregnation method via photoreduction. The as-prepared composite films were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray photoelectronic spectra (XPS) and N2 adsorption. The release behavior of silver ions in the mesoporous composite film was also studied. Moreover, the antimicrobial behaviors of the mesoporous film were also investigated by confocal laser scanning microscopy. The antibacterial activities of the composite films were studied by a fluorescence label method using Escherichia coli (E. coli) as a model. The as-prepared mesoporous TiO2 films showed much higher antimicrobial efficiency than that of glass and commercial P25 TiO2 spinning film. The facts would result from the high surface area, small crystal size and more active sites for the mesoporous catalysis. After the doping of Ag, a significant improvement for the antimicrobial ability was obtained. To elucidate the roles of the membrane photocatalyst and the doped silver in the antimicrobial activity, cells from a silver-resistant E. coli were used. These results indicated that Ag nanoparticles in the mesoporous were not only an antimicrobial but also an intensifier for photocatalysis. The as-prepared mesoporous composite film is promising in application of photocatalysis, antimicrobial and self-clean technologies.  相似文献

TiO2 nanotube arrays are very attractive for dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) owing to their superior charge percolation and slower charge recombination. Highly ordered, vertically aligned TiO2 nanotube arrays have been fabricated by a three-step anodization process. Although the use of a one-dimensional structure provides an enhanced photoelectrical performance, the smaller surface area reduces the adsorption of dye on the TiO2 surface. To overcome this problem, we investigated the effect of DSSCs constructed with a multilayer photoelectrode made of TiO2 nanoparticles and TiO2 nanotube arrays. We fabricated the novel multilayer photoelectrode via a layer-by-layer assembly process and thoroughly investigated the effect of various structures on the sample efficiency. The DSSC with a four-layer photoelectrode exhibited a maximum conversion efficiency of 7.22% because of effective electron transport and enhanced adsorption of dye on the TiO2 surface.  相似文献

TiO2 nanoparticles (NPs) with a size of 240 nm (T240), used as a light-scattering layer, were applied on 25-nm-sized TiO2 NPs (T25) that were used as a dye-absorbing layer in the photoelectrodes of dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). In addition, the incident light was concentrated via a condenser lens, and the effect of light concentration on the capacity of the light-scattering layer was systematically investigated. At the optimized focal length of the condenser lens, T25/T240 double layer (DL)-based DSSCs with the photoactive area of 0.36 cm2 were found to have the short circuit current (Isc) of 11.92 mA, the open circuit voltage (Voc) of 0.74 V, and power conversion efficiency (PCE) of approximately 4.11%, which is significantly improved when they were compared to the T25 single layer (SL)-based DSSCs without using a solar concentrator (the corresponding values were the Isc of 2.53 mA, the Voc of 0.69, and the PCE of 3.57%). Thus, the use of the optimized light harvesting structure in the photoelectrodes of DSSCs in conjunction with light concentration was found to significantly enhance the power output of DSSCs.  相似文献

Polyvinyl pyrrolidone (PVP) is introduced to low temperature preparation of a good quality TiO2 film used in flexible dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). The samples are characterized by scanning electron microscopy and UV–vis absorption spectra, the photovoltaic performance of the DSSC is measured. It is found that PVP can improve the dispersion of TiO2 particles and the adherence of TiO2 particles to flexible substrate, as well as the adsorption of sensitized dye to TiO2 film. Additionally, ultraviolet light irradiation can eliminate organics remained on the surface the TiO2 film and improve the surface state of TiO2 film. Under an optimal condition, a flexible DSSC using TiO2 film doped PVP and UV irradiation treated achieves a light-to-electric energy conversion efficiency of 3.02% under irradiation with a simulate solar light intensity of 100 mW cm−2.  相似文献

TiO2 thin films were fabricated through hydrothermal method. Silver nanoparticles were loaded on TiO2 thin films via photoreduction technique. Subsequently, the graphene quantum dots (GQDs) were spin‐coated on the Ag/TiO2 nanocomposites thin films. The crystal structure, surface morphology and UV‐vis absorbance were tested by XRD, SEM and ultraviolet‐visible spectrophotometer. These results indicated that Ag nanoparticles and GQDs are anchored on the TiO2 nanorods. Absorbance of Ag/TiO2 and GQDs/Ag/TiO2 nanocomposite thin films have been extended into the visible region. Visible‐light response of the samples were investigated by electrochemical workstation. The photoresponse of the sample can be enhanced by sensitization of the Ag nanoparticles and GQDs. The enhanced visible‐light response may be due to the surface plasmon resonance of silver nanoparticles and visible absorbance of GQDs. The highest photocatalytic activity has been observed in the 9‐GQDs/Ag/TiO2 composite thin film. The efficient charge separation and transportation can be achieved by introducing the Ag nanoparticles and GQDs in the TiO2 thin film.  相似文献

A low temperature (<150 °C) fabrication method for preparation of TiO2 porous films with high efficiency in dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) has been developed. The Ti(IV) tetraisopropoxide (TTIP) was added to the paste of TiO2 nanoparticles to interconnect the TiO2 particles. The electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) technique was employed to quantify the charge transport resistance at the TiO2/dye/electrolyte interface (Rct2) and electron lifetime in the TiO2 film (τe) under different molar ratios of TTIP/TiO2 and also at various TiO2 thicknesses. It was found that the Rct2 decreased as the molar ratio increased from 0.02 to 0.08, however, it increased at a molar ratio of 0.2 due to the reduction in surface area for dye adsorption. In addition, the characteristic frequency peak shifted to lower frequency at a molar ratio of 0.08, indicating the longer electron lifetime. As for the thickness effect, TiO2 film with a thickness around 17 μm achieved the best cell efficiency. EIS study also confirmed that, under illumination, the smallest Rct2 was associated with a TiO2 thickness of 17 μm, with the Rct2 increased as the thickness of TiO2 film increased. In the Bode plots, the characteristic frequency peaks shifted to higher frequency when the thickness of TiO2 increased from 17.2 to 48.2 μm, indicating the electron recombination increases as the thickness of the TiO2 electrode increases. Finally, to make better use of longer wavelength light, 30 wt% of larger TiO2 particle (300 nm) was mixed with P25 TiO2 as light scattering particles. It effectively increased the short-circuit current density and cell conversion efficiency from 7.44 to 8.80 mA cm−2 and 3.75 to 4.20%, respectively.  相似文献

A poly(azulene)-TiO2 composite film (PAz-TiO2) was synthesized electrochemically by oxidation of azulene in an electrolyte medium containing TiO2 nanoparticles. Polymerization was performed under magnetic stirring in an acetonitrile solution containing tetrabutylammonium hexafluorophosphate as the electrolyte salt. Influence of the concentration of TiO2 in the reaction suspension on the electrochemical and optical properties and on the structure of the composite films was studied by cyclic voltammetry, ex situ Raman and FTIR reflection spectroscopy and in situ UV–vis and FTIR spectroelectrochemical techniques. Morphology of the composite films was studied by Scanning Electron Microscopy and the amount and distribution of the TiO2 nanoparticles within the polymeric matrix by Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry with laser ablation. Addition of TiO2 in the reaction suspension had a small catalytic activity for the polymerization of Az. Inclusion of TiO2 nanoparticles in PAz did not affect the voltammetric behavior or the chemical structure of the formed polymer films. However, a different chain conformation and morphology of the film was formed when synthesized in presence of TiO2 compared to the plain PAz film. It was also found that the film morphology was more homogeneous when the concentration of TiO2 was ≥10 mM in the polymerization solution than films polymerized without any TiO2.  相似文献

In order to possess the merits of both building blocks, i.e. the rapid interfacial electron transport of TiO2-B narrow nanobelts (NBs) and the high surface area of TiO2 nanoparticles (NPs), the TiO2-B NBs and TiO2 NPs composites photoelectrodes were prepared with different weight ratios. The dye-sensitized solar cell prototypes were fabricated based on the composite photoelectrodes and the photoelectrical properties have been systematically studied. Although the amount of adsorption dye of composite solar cells decreased, the composite cells could obtain higher power conversion efficiency compared to pure TiO2 NP solar cell by rational tuning the weight ratio of TiO2-B NBs and TiO2 NPs, which was due to the faster electron transfer rate. The dye adsorption amount and interfacial electron transport, which together determined the overall photoelectrical conversion efficiency, were investigated by the UV–vis spectra, the electrochemical impedance spectra (EIS), intensity-modulated photocurrent spectroscopy (IMPS) and intensity-modulated photovoltage spectroscopy (IMVS).  相似文献
