| Abstract: | Background The objective of this study was to investigate the changes of chemical composition of tobacco leaves during the big box bulk curing and its effect on the quality of flue-cured tobacco. Method The changes of water content, pigment content, main chemical components content, aroma component content and the quality of flue-cured tobacco during the curing process under two kinds of treatments (the tobacco folder bulk curing and the big box bulk curing) were studied. Result Compared with the tobacco folder bulk curing, the big box bulk curing has a lower water loss rate, lower starch degradation and water-soluble sugar accumulation, lower chlorophyll degradation rate, and lower contents of total aroma components under 47℃. However, when the temperature was higher than 47℃, the the big box bulk curing exhibited a better performance than the tobacco folder bulk curing. Conclusion Big box bulk curing can increase the proportion and average price of top-quality tobacco leaves, improve the appearance quality of tobacco leaves, improve the aroma quality of tobacco leaves, improve the sensory quality of tobacco leaves, and improve the usability of tobacco leaves. |
